First of all make the declarations globally visible, such that producer and consumer actually share them. For the latter two simply add const (as PPC already had it,), while for the former achieve the effect by converting to an array: There's no need for the extra level of indirection.

Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then updates copyright messages as follows: 1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights. 2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite files (which should have their copyright message removed). 3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes. 4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

Give backends a chance to see these, just as they can see binary ones. Most of those which use this hook already cope with NULL being passed for the left operand (typically because of checking the operator first). Adjust the two which don't. Take the opportunity and also document the hook.

Assuming GMSD is a special operand, marked as O_md1, the code: .set VREG, GMSD .set REG, VREG extsw REG, 2 ...fails upon attempts to resolve the value of the symbol. This happens since machine-dependent values are not handled in the giant op switch. We introduce a custom md_resolve_symbol macro; the ports can use this macro to customize the behavior when resolve_symbol_value hits O_md operand.

The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently. The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit breaks building of bfp opcodes files.

I've been repeatedly confused by, in particular, the .dc.a potable[] entry being conditional. Grepping in gas/config/ reveals only very few targets actually #define-ing it. But as of 7be1c4891a20 the symbol is always defined, so #ifdef-s are pointless (and, as said, potentially confusing). Also adjust documentation to reflect this.

Its (documented) behavior is unhelpful in particular in 64-bit build environments: While printing large 32-bit numbers in decimal already isn't very meaningful to most people, this even more so goes for yet larger 64-bit numbers. bfd_sprintf_vma() still tries to limit the number of digits printed (without depending on a build system property), but uniformly produces hex output.

2018-07-02Fix use of "command line X" in binutils docThomas Preud'homme1-2/+2
Binutils documentation uses a mix of spelling for the compound word "command-line X". According to [1]: "Sometimes compound words are written separately (nail polish), sometimes with a hyphen (short-sighted) and sometimes as one word (eyelashes). Often new compounds are written as two separate words and, as they become more familiar, they are either connected with a hyphen (-) or made into one word." I think command-line X is common enough in our industry that the two workds command and line should be connected. Since command-line is more common than commandline, I propose to update binutils documentation to consistently use "command-line" when this is used as an adjective to a noun (eg. command-line argument, command-line switch, command-line option and command-line flag). I've left occurences of "the command line" as is. I've also left gdb, sim and readline alone and have only touched public documentation (texi and NEWS files).
