2024-07-11target: Set TCGCPUOps::cpu_exec_halt to target's has_work implementationPeter Maydell1-0/+1
Currently the TCGCPUOps::cpu_exec_halt method is optional, and if it is not set then the default is to call the CPUClass::has_work method (which has an identical function signature). We would like to make the cpu_exec_halt method mandatory so we can remove the runtime check and fallback handling. In preparation for that, make all the targets which don't need special handling in their cpu_exec_halt set it to their cpu_has_work implementation instead of leaving it unset. (This is every target except for arm and i386.) In the riscv case this requires us to make the function not be local to the source file it's defined in. 2024-04-25hw, target: Add ResetType argument to hold and exit phase methodsPeter Maydell1-2/+2
We pass a ResetType argument to the Resettable class enter phase method, but we don't pass it to hold and exit, even though the callsites have it readily available. This means that if a device cared about the ResetType it would need to record it in the enter phase method to use later on. Pass the type to all three of the phase methods to avoid having to do that. Loongson introduced CSR instructions since 3A4000, which looks similar to IOCSR and CPUCFG instructions we seen in LoongArch. Unfortunately we don't have much document about those instructions, bit fields of CPUCFG instructions and IOCSR registers can be found at 3A4000's user manual, while instruction encodings can be found at arch/mips/include/asm/mach-loongson64/loongson_regs.h from Linux Kernel. Our predefined CPUCFG bits are differ from actual 3A4000, since we can't emulate all CPUCFG features present in 3A4000 for now, we just enable bits for what we have in TCG. The cp0_count_ns value is calculated from the CP0_COUNT_RATE_DEFAULT constant in target/mips/cpu.c. The cycle counter resolution is defined per-CPU in target/mips/cpu-defs.c.inc; use this value for calculating cp0_count_ns. 2021-05-26cpu: Rename CPUClass vmsd -> legacy_vmsdPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé1-1/+1
Quoting Peter Maydell [*]: There are two ways to handle migration for a CPU object: (1) like any other device, so it has a dc->vmsd that covers migration for the whole object. As usual for objects that are a subclass of a parent that has state, the first entry in the VMStateDescription field list is VMSTATE_CPU(), which migrates the cpu_common fields, followed by whatever the CPU's own migration fields are. (2) a backwards-compatible mechanism for CPUs that were originally migrated using manual "write fields to the migration stream structures". The on-the-wire migration format for those is based on the 'env' pointer (which isn't a QOM object), and the cpu_common part of the migration data is elsewhere. cpu_exec_realizefn() handles both possibilities: * for type 1, dc->vmsd is set and cc->vmsd is not, so cpu_exec_realizefn() does nothing, and the standard "register dc->vmsd for a device" code does everything needed * for type 2, dc->vmsd is NULL and so we register the vmstate_cpu_common directly to handle the cpu-common fields, and the cc->vmsd to handle the per-CPU stuff You can't change a CPU from one type to the other without breaking migration compatibility, which is why some guest architectures are stuck on the cc->vmsd form. New targets should use dc->vmsd. To avoid new targets to start using type (2), rename cc->vmsd as cc->legacy_vmsd. The correct field to implement is dc->vmsd (the DeviceClass one). See also commit b170fce3dd0 ("cpu: Register VMStateDescription through CPUState") for historic background.
