2020-08-21trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requiresPaolo Bonzini1-0/+1
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using $(build_root)/$(<D). In order to keep the include directives unchanged, the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like "trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h". This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the Meson rewrite of the tracing logic. It allows to * resolve conflicts between global -mem-prealloc and hostmem's "policy" option, fixing premature allocation before binding policy is applied * simplify complicated memory allocation routines which had to deal with 2 ways to allocate RAM. * reuse hostmem backends of a choice for main RAM without adding extra CLI options to duplicate hostmem features. A recent case was -mem-shared, to enable vhost-user on targets that don't support hostmem backends [1] (ex: s390) * move RAM allocation from individual boards into generic machine code and provide them with prepared MemoryRegion. * clean up deprecated NUMA features which were tied to the old API (see patches) - "numa: remove deprecated -mem-path fallback to anonymous RAM" - (POSTPONED, waiting on libvirt side) "forbid '-numa node,mem' for 5.0 and newer machine types" - (POSTPONED) "numa: remove deprecated implicit RAM distribution between nodes" Introduce a new machine.memory-backend property and wrapper code that aliases global -mem-path and -mem-alloc into automatically created hostmem backend properties (provided memory-backend was not set explicitly given by user). A bulk of trivial patches then follow to incrementally convert individual boards to using machine.memory-backend provided MemoryRegion. Board conversion typically involves: * providing MachineClass::default_ram_size and MachineClass::default_ram_id so generic code could create default backend if user didn't explicitly provide memory-backend or -m options * dropping memory_region_allocate_system_memory() call * using convenience MachineState::ram MemoryRegion, which points to MemoryRegion allocated by ram-memdev On top of that for some boards: * missing ram_size checks are added (typically it were boards with fixed ram size) * ram_size fixups are replaced by checks and hard errors, forcing user to provide correct "-m" values instead of ignoring it and continuing running. After all boards are converted, the old API is removed and memory allocation routines are cleaned up.
2020-02-19hppa: use memdev for RAMIgor Mammedov1-7/+3
memory_region_allocate_system_memory() API is going away, so replace it with memdev allocated MemoryRegion. The later is initialized by generic code, so board only needs to opt in to memdev scheme by providing MachineClass::default_ram_id and using MachineState::ram instead of manually initializing RAM memory region. 2020-01-29hw/core/loader: Let load_elf() populate a field with CPU-specific flagsAleksandar Markovic1-2/+2
While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch, this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of the executable in question. The change expands functionality of the following functions: - load_elf() - load_elf_as() - load_elf_ram() - load_elf_ram_sym() The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word' being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will happen, and no information will be returned, of course. 2020-01-27hw/hppa/machine: Map the PDC memory region with higher priorityPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé1-1/+1
The region in range [0xf0000000 - 0xf1000000] is the PDC area (Processor Dependent Code), where the firmware is loaded. This region has higher priority than the main memory. When the machine has more than 3840MB of RAM, there is an overlap. Since the PDC is closer to the CPU in the bus hierarchy, it gets accessed first, and the CPU does not have access to the RAM in this range. To model the same behavior and keep a simple memory layout, reduce the priority of the RAM region. The PDC region ends overlapping the RAM. The hardware expects DIMM slots of 1 or 2 GB, allowing up to 4 GB of memory. We want to accept the same amount of memory the hardware can deal with. DIMMs of 768MB are not available. However we have to deal with a firmware limitation: currently SeaBIOS only supports 32-bit, and expects the RAM size in a 32-bit register. When using a 4GB configuration, the 32-bit register get truncated and we report a size of 0MB to SeaBIOS, which ends halting the machine: $ qemu-system-hppa -m 4g -serial stdio SeaBIOS: Machine configured with too little memory (0 MB), minimum is 16 MB. SeaBIOS wants SYSTEM HALT. The easiest way is to restrict the machine to 3GB of memory. Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one from char/serial.h to char/serial.c. hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway. This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that. When virtio-vga was added, the intention was to only support it for those machines where the firmware does not know about virtio-gpu, and supported VGA legacy hardware before virtio-{gpu,vga} were introduced. The Kconfig switch however enabled virtio-vga for all machines with a PCI bus, and libvirt then prefers it even on hardware where virtio-gpu would be preferrable. At least for now, only enable virtio-vga for PC, hppa and pSeries machines, as was the case before Kconfig dependencies were introduced. This patch fixes two issues in the hppa/parisc emulation: 1. The CPU HPA was wrong in the sense that we had negative module offsets in the firmware-internal module table (which we ignored up to now). Get it correct by changing the CPU HPA to 0xfffb0000 which is greater than the DINO_HPA of 0xfff80000. This change requires the seabios-firmware update. 2. Sven noticed that the FPU register cr10 is only able to reference up to 8 FPUs, so let's reduce the maximum amount of SMP CPUs too. 2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick1-3/+3
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI.
