3 daysfortran: Remove overwrite of polymorphic associate variable offsetMikael Morin1-18/+0
The array descriptor returned by gfc_conv_expr_descriptor should be usable as is. No need to overwrite the offset. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans-stmt.cc (trans_associate_var): Remove overwrite of the polymorphic associate variable's array descriptor offset.
3 daysfortran: Remove redundant initialisation of associate variable spanMikael Morin1-10/+0
In the initialization of associate variable array descriptors, remove an overwrite of the span field. The descriptor that is returned by gfc_conv_expr_descriptor should already be usable without it. The range of cases where the code was in effect is not completely clear. The span overwrite looks redundant, and the conditional guarding it seems to make it dead. However, the conditions governing gfc_conv_expr_descriptor, gfc_get_array_span and trans_associate_var make it difficult to track what is possible and what isn't. Trying to investigate the case where the target is an array subreference wrapped in parenthesis, I encountered a wrong-code issue, PR121384. Let's remove all this and see what happens. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans-stmt.cc (trans_associate_var): Remove overwrite of the span field of the associate variable's array descriptor.
4 daysfortran: Remove unused field use_offsetMikael Morin1-1/+0
The gfc_se::use_offset field is set in a few places, but is nowhere used. Remove it. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans.h (gfc_se): Remove field use_offset. * trans-expr.cc (gfc_conv_intrinsic_to_class): Remove use_offset initialization. (gfc_conv_procedure_call): Likewise. * trans-stmt.cc (trans_associate_var): Likewise.
4 daysfortran: Use array descriptor data setter when possibleMikael Morin1-3/+4
Regression-tested on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. OK for master? -- >8 -- In some places, a write to an array descriptor data field was generated simply by adding a modification of a reference to it that was already available. This change uses the existing setter function instead in those places, to generate the same code. It makes it more explicit that in those areas a write to the field is generated. We have to be careful because in some of the places, the pointer that is to be modified is an array descriptor field only under some conditions. Add a conditional in those places to separate the cases, and keep generating the reference modification as before if the conditions are not met. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans.cc (gfc_finalize_tree_expr): Use the data setter instead of writing to the value returned by the data getter. * trans-decl.cc (gfc_trans_deferred_vars): Likewise. * trans-stmt.cc (trans_associate_var): Use the data setter instead of writing to the value dereferenced from the data address.
10 daysfortran: Remove useless elements count variableMikael Morin1-5/+2
The function gfc_array_init_size evaluates the number of array elements to a variable from a caller, but the single caller providing the variable actually doesn't use it. This change removes the variable and the function arguments passing its address down the call chain. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans-array.cc (gfc_array_init_size): Remove the nelems argument. (gfc_array_allocate): Update caller. Remove the nelems argument. * trans-stmt.cc (gfc_trans_allocate): Update caller. Remove the nelems variable. * trans-array.h (gfc_array_allocate): Update prototype.
2025-06-24Fortran/OpenACC: Add Fortran support for acc_attach/acc_detachTobias Burnus1-2/+72
While C/++ support the routines acc_attach{,_async} and acc_detach{,_finalize}{,_async} routines since a long time, the Fortran API routines where only added in OpenACC 3.3. Unfortunately, they cannot directly be implemented in the library as GCC will introduce a temporary array descriptor in some cases, which causes the attempted attachment to the this temporary variable instead of to the original one. Therefore, those API routines are handled in a special way in the compiler. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * trans-stmt.cc (gfc_trans_call_acc_attach_detach): New. (gfc_trans_call): Call it. libgomp/ChangeLog: * libgomp.texi (acc_attach, acc_detach): Update for Fortran version. * openacc.f90 (acc_attach{,_async}, acc_detach{,_finalize}{,_async}): Add. * openacc_lib.h: Likewise. * testsuite/libgomp.oacc-fortran/acc-attach-detach-1.f90: New test. * testsuite/libgomp.oacc-fortran/acc-attach-detach-2.f90: New test.

2025-04-09Fortran: Add code gen for do,concurrent's LOCAL/LOCAL_INIT [PR101602]Tobias Burnus1-1/+143
Implement LOCAL and LOCAL_INIT; we locally replace the tree declaration by a local declaration of the outer variable. The 'local_init' then assigns the value at the beginning of each loop iteration from the outer declaration. Note that the current implementation does not handle LOCAL with types that have a default initializer and LOCAL/LOCAL_INIT for assumed-shape arrays; this is diagnosed with a sorry error. 2024-11-18Fortran: add bounds-checking for ALLOCATE of CHARACTER with type-spec [PR53357]Harald Anlauf1-0/+11
Fix a rejects-(potentially)-valid code for ALLOCATE of CHARACTER with type-spec, and implement a string-length check for -fcheck=bounds. Implement more detailed errors or warnings when character function declarations and references do not match. PR fortran/53357 gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * dependency.cc (gfc_dep_compare_expr): Return correct result if relationship of expressions could not be determined. * interface.cc (gfc_check_result_characteristics): Implement error messages if character function declations and references do not agree, else emit warning in cases where a mismatch is suspected. * trans-stmt.cc (gfc_trans_allocate): Implement a string length check for -fcheck=bounds. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gfortran.dg/auto_char_len_4.f90: Adjust patterns. * gfortran.dg/typebound_override_1.f90: Likewise. * gfortran.dg/bounds_check_strlen_10.f90: New test.
2024-10-24Use unique_ptr in more places in pretty_printer/diagnostics [PR116613]David Malcolm1-0/+1
My forthcoming patches for PR other/116613 make much more use of cloning of pretty_printers than before, so it makes sense as a preliminary patch for the result of pretty_printer::clone to be a std::unique_ptr, rather than add more manual uses of "delete". On doing so, I noticed various other places where naked new/delete is used for run-time configuration of diagnostics: * the output format (text vs SARIF) * client data hooks * the option manager * the URLifier Hence this patch also makes use of std::unique_ptr and ::make_unique for managing such client policy classes, and also for diagnostic_buffer's per-format implementations. Unfortunately we can't directly include <memory> in our internal headers but instead any of our TUs that make use of std::unique_ptr must #define INCLUDE_MEMORY before including system.h. Hence the bulk of this patch is taken up with adding a define of INCLUDE_MEMORY to hundreds of source files: everything that includes diagnostic.h or pretty-print.h (and thus anything transitively such as includers of lto-wrapper.h, c-tree.h, cp-tree.h and rtl-ssa.h). 2024-10-19Fortran: Add range-based diagnosticTobias Burnus1-9/+8
GCC's diagnostic engine gained a while ago support for ranges, i.e. instead of pointing at a single character '^', it can also have a '~~~~^~~~~~' range. This patch adds support for this and adds 9 users for it, which covers the most common cases. A single '^' can be still useful. Some location data in gfortran is rather bad - often the matching pattern includes whitespace such that the before or after location points to the beginning/end of the whitespace, which can be far of especially when comments and/or continuation lines are involed. Otherwise, often a '^' still sufficient, albeit wrong location data only becomes obvious once starting to use ranges. The 'locus' is extended to support two ways to store the data; hereby gfc_current_locus always contains the old format (at least during parsing) and gfc_current_locus shall not be used in trans*.cc. The latter permits a nice cleanup to just use input_location. Otherwise, the new format is only used when switching to ranges. The only reason to convert from location_t to locus occurs in trans*.cc for the gfc_error (etc.) diagnostic and for gfc_trans_runtime_check; there are 5 currently 5 such cases. For gfc_* diagnostic, we could think of another letter besides %L or a modifier like '%lL', if deemed useful. In any case, the new format is just: locus->u.location = linemap_position_for_loc_and_offset (line_table, loc->u.lb->location, loc->nextc - loc->u.lb->line); locus->nextc = (gfc_char_t *) -1; /* Marker for new format. */ i.e. using the existing location_t location in in the linebuffer (which points to column 0) and add as offset the actually used column number. As location_t handles ranges, we just use it also to store them via: location = make_location (caret, begin, end) There are a few convenience macros/functions but that's all. Alongside, a few minor fixes were done: linemap_location_before_p replaces a line-number based comparison, which does not handle multiple statements in the same line that ';' allows for. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * data.cc (gfc_assign_data_value): Use linemap_location_before_p and GFC_LOCUS_IS_SET. * decl.cc (gfc_verify_c_interop_param): Make better translatable. (build_sym, variable_decl, gfc_match_formal_arglist, gfc_match_subroutine): Add range-based locations, use it in diagnostic and gobble whitespace for better locations. * error.cc (gfc_get_location_with_offset): Handle new format. 2024-08-23Remove unnecessary view_convert obsoleted by [PR86468].Andre Vehreschild1-3/+1
This patch removes an unnecessary view_convert in trans_associate to prevent hard to find runtime errors in the future. The ranks are fixed by PR86468 now and the view_convert is obsolete. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: PR fortran/86468 * trans-stmt.cc (trans_associate_var): Remove superfluous view_convert.

2024-08-15Add corank to gfc_expr.Andre Vehreschild1-52/+81
Compute the corank of an expression along side to the regular rank. This safe costly calls to gfc_get_corank (), which consecutively has been removed. In some locations the code needed some adaption to model the difference between expr.corank and gfc_get_corank correctly. association argument and add un/pack_class. [PR96992] Removing the assert in trans-expr, lead to initial strides not set which is now fixed. When the array needs repacking, this is done for class arrays now, too. Packing class arrays was done using the regular internal pack function in the past. With -fopenmp -fopenmp-allocators, those constructs get turned into GOMP_alloc allocations, while -fopenmp-allocators (also without -fopenmp) ensures deallocation and reallocation (via intrinsic assignments) are properly directed to GOMP_free/omp_realloc - while normal Fortran allocations are processed by free/realloc. In order to distinguish a 'malloc'ed from a 'GOMP_alloc'ed memory, the version field of the Fortran array discriptor is (mis)used: 0 indicates the normal Fortran allocation while 1 denotes GOMP_alloc. For scalars, there is record keeping in libgomp: GOMP_add_alloc(ptr) will add the pointer address to a splay_tree while GOMP_is_alloc(ptr) will return true it was previously added but also removes it from the list. Besides Fortran FE work, BUILT_IN_GOMP_REALLOC is no part of omp-builtins.def and libgomp gains the mentioned two new function. gcc/ChangeLog: * builtin-types.def (BT_FN_PTR_PTR_SIZE_PTRMODE_PTRMODE): New. * omp-builtins.def (BUILT_IN_GOMP_REALLOC): New. * builtins.cc (builtin_fnspec): Handle it. * gimple-ssa-warn-access.cc (fndecl_alloc_p, matching_alloc_calls_p): Likewise. * gimple.cc (nonfreeing_call_p): Likewise. * predict.cc (expr_expected_value_1): Likewise. * tree-ssa-ccp.cc (evaluate_stmt): Likewise. * tree.cc (fndecl_dealloc_argno): Likewise. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog: * dump-parse-tree.cc (show_omp_node): Handle EXEC_OMP_ALLOCATE and EXEC_OMP_ALLOCATORS. * f95-lang.cc (ATTR_ALLOC_WARN_UNUSED_RESULT_SIZE_2_NOTHROW_LIST): Add 'ECF_LEAF | ECF_MALLOC' to existing 'ECF_NOTHROW'. 2023-08-25OpenMP: Fortran support for imperfectly-nested loopsSandra Loosemore1-1/+6
OpenMP 5.0 removed the restriction that multiple collapsed loops must be perfectly nested, allowing "intervening code" (including nested BLOCKs) before or after each nested loop. In GCC this code is moved into the inner loop body by the respective front ends. In the Fortran front end, most of the semantic processing happens during the translation phase, so the parse phase just collects the intervening statements, checks them for errors, and splices them around the loop body. gcc/fortran/ChangeLog * gfortran.h (struct gfc_namespace): Add omp_structured_block bit. * openmp.cc: Include omp-api.h.
