2023-04-20softmmu: Make qtest.c target independentThomas Huth1-6/+6
The code in this file is not performance critical, so we can use the target independent endianess functions to only compile this file once for all targets. 2023-04-20softmmu/qtest: Move the target-specific pseries RTAS code out of qtest.cThomas Huth1-26/+13
Ideally, qtest.c should be independent from target specific code, so we only have to compile it once for all targets. Thus start improving the situation by moving the pseries related code to hw/ppc/spapr_rtas.c instead and allow target code to register a callback handler for such target specific commands. 2023-04-20qtest: Don't assert on "-qtest chardev:myid"Peter Maydell1-1/+1
If the -qtest command line argument is passed a string that says "use this chardev for I/O", then it will assert: $ ./build/clang/qemu-system-i386 -chardev file,path=/dev/null,id=myid -qtest chardev:myid Unexpected error in qtest_set_chardev() at ../../softmmu/qtest.c:1011: qemu-system-i386: Cannot find character device 'qtest' Aborted (core dumped) This is because in qtest_server_init() we assume that when we create the chardev with qemu_chr_new() it will always have the name "qtest". This is true if qemu_chr_new() had to create a new chardev, but not true if one already existed and is being referred to with "chardev:myid". Use the name of the chardev we get back from qemu_chr_new() as the string to set the qtest 'chardev' property to, instead of hardcoding it to "qtest". 2022-11-06module: add Error arguments to module_load and module_load_qomClaudio Fontana1-1/+7
improve error handling during module load, by changing: bool module_load(const char *prefix, const char *lib_name); void module_load_qom(const char *type); to: int module_load(const char *prefix, const char *name, Error **errp); int module_load_qom(const char *type, Error **errp); where the return value is: -1 on module load error, and errp is set with the error 0 on module or one of its dependencies are not installed 1 on module load success 2 on module load success (module already loaded or built-in) module_load_qom_one has been introduced in: commit 28457744c345 ("module: qom module support"), which built on top of module_load_one, but discarded the bool return value. Restore it. Adapt all callers to emit errors, or ignore them, or fail hard, as appropriate in each context. Replace the previous emission of errors via fprintf in _some_ error conditions with Error and error_report, so as to emit to the appropriate target. A memory leak is also fixed as part of the module_load changes. audio: when attempting to load an audio module, report module load errors. Note that still for some callers, a single issue may generate multiple error reports, and this could be improved further. Regarding the audio code itself, audio_add() seems to ignore errors, and this should probably be improved. block: when attempting to load a block module, report module load errors. For the code paths that already use the Error API, take advantage of those to report module load errors into the Error parameter. For the other code paths, we currently emit the error, but this could be improved further by adding Error parameters to all possible code paths. console: when attempting to load a display module, report module load errors. qdev: when creating a new qdev Device object (DeviceState), report load errors. If a module cannot be loaded to create that device, now abort execution (if no CONFIG_MODULE) or exit (if CONFIG_MODULE). qom/object.c: when initializing a QOM object, or looking up class_by_name, report module load errors. qtest: when processing the "module_load" qtest command, report errors in the load of the module. 2022-10-27qtest: Improve error messages when property can not be set right nowMarkus Armbruster1-2/+2
When you try to set qtest property "log" while the qtest object is active, the error message blames "insufficient permission": $ qemu-system-x86_64 -S -display none -nodefaults -monitor stdio -chardev socket,id=chrqt0,path=qtest.socket,server=on,wait=off -object qtest,id=qt0,chardev=chrqt0,log=/dev/null QEMU 7.1.50 monitor - type 'help' for more information (qemu) qom-set /objects/qt0 log qtest.log Error: Insufficient permission to perform this operation This implies it could work with "sufficient permission". 2020-10-15module: silence errors for module_load_qom_all().Gerd Hoffmann1-1/+1
Add mayfail bool parameter to module loading functions. Set it to true for module_load_qom_all() because device modules might not load into all system emulation variants. qemu-system-s390x for example will not load qxl because it lacks vga support. Makes "make check" less chatty. Drop module_loaded_qom_all check in module_load_qom_one to make sure we see errors for explicit load requests, i.e. module_load_qom_one("qxl") failing will log an error no matter whenever module_load_qom_all() was called before or not. 2020-10-05cpu-timers, icount: new modulesClaudio Fontana1-1/+33
refactoring of cpus.c continues with cpu timer state extraction. cpu-timers: responsible for the softmmu cpu timers state, including cpu clocks and ticks. icount: counts the TCG instructions executed. As such it is specific to the TCG accelerator. Therefore, it is built only under CONFIG_TCG. One complication is due to qtest, which uses an icount field to warp time as part of qtest (qtest_clock_warp). In order to solve this problem, provide a separate counter for qtest. This requires fixing assumptions scattered in the code that qtest_enabled() implies icount_enabled(), checking each specific case.
