2022-10-22Drop useless casts from g_malloc() & friends to pointerMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
These memory allocation functions return void *, and casting to another pointer type is useless clutter. Drop these casts. If you really want another pointer type, consider g_new(). 2020-12-19migration: Replace migration's JSON writer by the general oneMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
Commit 8118f0950f "migration: Append JSON description of migration stream" needs a JSON writer. The existing qobject_to_json() wasn't a good fit, because it requires building a QObject to convert. Instead, migration got its very own JSON writer, in commit 190c882ce2 "QJSON: Add JSON writer". It tacitly limits numbers to int64_t, and strings contents to characters that don't need escaping, unlike qobject_to_json(). The previous commit factored the JSON writer out of qobject_to_json(). Replace migration's JSON writer by it. 2020-03-16misc: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible array member (automatic)Philippe Mathieu-Daudé1-1/+1
Description copied from Linux kernel commit from Gustavo A. R. Silva (see [3]): --v-- description start --v-- The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member [1], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being unadvertenly introduced [2] to the Linux codebase from now on. --^-- description end --^-- Do the similar housekeeping in the QEMU codebase (which uses C99 since commit 7be41675f7cb). All these instances of code were found with the help of the following Coccinelle script: @@ identifier s, m, a; type t, T; @@ struct s { ... t m; - T a[0]; + T a[]; }; @@ identifier s, m, a; type t, T; @@ struct s { ... t m; - T a[0]; + T a[]; } QEMU_PACKED; [1] https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Zero-Length.html [2] https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=76497732932f [3] https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gustavoars/linux.git/commit/?id=17642a2fbd2c1 Inspired-by: Gustavo A. 2019-08-16Include hw/hw.h exactly where neededMarkus Armbruster1-1/+0
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/hw.h triggers a recompile of some 2600 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). The previous commits have left only the declaration of hw_error() in hw/hw.h. This permits dropping most of its inclusions. Touching it now recompiles less than 200 objects. 2019-08-16Include migration/vmstate.h lessMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
In my "build everything" tree, changing migration/vmstate.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/hw.h supposedly includes it for convenience. Several other headers include it just to get VMStateDescription. The previous commit made that unnecessary. Include migration/vmstate.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 1600 objects. 2019-08-16Include migration/qemu-file-types.h a lot lessMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
In my "build everything" tree, changing migration/qemu-file-types.h triggers a recompile of some 2600 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). The culprit is again hw/hw.h, which supposedly includes it for convenience. Include migration/qemu-file-types.h only where it's needed. Touching it now recompiles less than 200 objects. 2017-06-28vmstate: error hint for failed equal checksHalil Pasic1-1/+1
In some cases a failing VMSTATE_*_EQUAL does not mean we detected a bug, but it's actually the best we can do. Especially in these cases a verbose error message is required. Let's introduce infrastructure for specifying a error hint to be used if equal check fails. Let's do this by adding a parameter to the _EQUAL macros called _err_hint. Also change all current users to pass NULL as last parameter so nothing changes for them. 2014-06-16savevm: Remove all the unneeded version_minimum_id_old (x86)Juan Quintela1-2/+1
After previous Peter patch, they are redundant. This way we don't assign them except when needed. Once there, there were lots of case where the ".fields" indentation was wrong: .fields = (VMStateField []) { and .fields = (VMStateField []) { Change all the combinations to: .fields = (VMStateField[]){ The biggest problem (appart from aesthetics) was that checkpatch complained when we copy&pasted the code from one place to another.
