2023-02-27hw/isa: Factor isa_bus_get_irq() out of isa_get_irq()Philippe Mathieu-Daudé1-4/+10
isa_get_irq() was added in commit 3a38d437ca ("Add isa_reserve_irq()" Fri Aug 14 11:36:15 2009) as: a temporary interface to be used to allocate ISA IRQs for devices which have not yet been converted to qdev, and for special cases which are not suited for qdev conversions, such as the 'ferr'. We still use it 14 years later, using the global 'isabus' singleton. In order to get rid of such *temporary* interface, extract isa_bus_get_irq() which can take any ISABus* object. 2022-05-09Warn user if the vga flag is passed but no vga device is createdGautam Agrawal1-0/+1
A global boolean variable "vga_interface_created"(declared in softmmu/globals.c) has been used to track the creation of vga interface. If the vga flag is passed in the command line "default_vga"(declared in softmmu/vl.c) variable is set to 0. To warn user, the condition checks if vga_interface_created is false and default_vga is equal to 0. If "-vga none" is passed, this patch will not warn the user regarding the creation of VGA device. The warning "A -vga option was passed but this machine type does not use that option; no VGA device has been created" is logged if vga flag is passed but no vga device is created. 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. 2016-01-13isa: Clean up inappropriate hw_error()Markus Armbruster1-11/+0
isa_bus_irqs(), isa_create() and isa_try_create() call hw_error() when passed a null bus. Use of hw_error() has always been questionable, because these are used only during machine initialization, and printing CPU registers isn't useful there. Since the previous commit, passing a null bus is a programming error. Drop the hw_error() and simply let it crash. Cc: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Cc: "Michael S. 2016-01-13isa: Clean up error handling around isa_bus_new()Markus Armbruster1-2/+2
We can have at most one ISA bus. If you try to create another one, isa_bus_new() complains to stderr and returns null. isa_bus_new() is called in two contexts, machine's init() and device's realize() methods. Since complaining to stderr is not proper in the latter context, convert isa_bus_new() to Error. Machine's init(): * mips_jazz_init(), called from the init() methods of machines "magnum" and "pica" * mips_r4k_init(), the init() method of machine "mips" * pc_init1() called from the init() methods of non-q35 PC machines * typhoon_init(), called from clipper_init(), the init() method of machine "clipper" These callers always create the first ISA bus, hence isa_bus_new() can't fail. Simply pass &error_abort. Device's realize(): * i82378_realize(), of PCI device "i82378" * ich9_lpc_realize(), of PCI device "ICH9-LPC" * pci_ebus_realize(), of PCI device "ebus" * piix3_realize(), of PCI device "pci-piix3", abstract parent of "PIIX3" and "PIIX3-xen" * piix4_realize(), of PCI device "PIIX4" * vt82c686b_realize(), of PCI device "VT82C686B" Propagate the error. Note that these devices are typically created only by machine init() methods with qdev_init_nofail() or similar. If we screwed up and created an ISA bus before that call, we now give up right away. Before, we'd hobble on, and typically die in isa_bus_irqs(). Similar if someone finds a way to hot-plug one of these critters. Cc: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Cc: "Michael S. 2015-06-05Move parallel_hds_isa_init to hw/isa/isa-bus.cMiroslav Rezanina1-0/+26
Disabling CONFIG_PARALLEL cause removing parallel_hds_isa_init defined in parallel.c. This function is called during initialization of some boards so disabling CONFIG_PARALLEL cause build failure. This patch moves parallel_hds_isa_init to hw/isa/isa-bus.c so it is included in case of disabled CONFIG_PARALLEL. Build is successful but qemu will abort with "Unknown device" error when function is called. 2014-05-05PortioList: Store PortioList in device stateKirill Batuzov1-3/+8
PortioList is an abstraction used for construction of MemoryRegionPortioList from MemoryRegionPortio. It can be used later to unmap created memory regions. It also requires proper cleanup because some of the memory inside is allocated dynamically. By moving PortioList ot device state we make it possible to cleanup later and avoid leaking memory. This change spans several target platforms. The following testcases cover all changed lines: qemu-system-ppc -M prep qemu-system-i386 -vga qxl qemu-system-i386 -M isapc -soundhw adlib -device ib700,id=watchdog0,bus=isa.0 Signed-off-by: Kirill Batuzov <batuzovk@ispras.ru> Reviewed-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Andreas Färber <afaerber@suse.de>
2013-12-23sysbus: Set cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yetMarkus Armbruster1-1/+0
device_add plugs devices into suitable bus. For "real" buses, that actually connects the device. For sysbus, the connections need to be made separately, and device_add can't do that. The device would be left unconnected, and could not possibly work. Quite a few, but not all sysbus devices already set cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet in their class init function. Set it in their abstract base's class init function sysbus_device_class_init(), and remove the now redundant assignments from device class init functions. 2013-12-23qdev: Replace no_user by cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yetMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
In an ideal world, machines can be built by wiring devices together with configuration, not code. Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in right now. We still have quite a few devices that need to be wired up by code. If you try to device_add such a device, it'll fail in sometimes mysterious ways. If you're lucky, you get an unmysterious immediate crash. To protect users from such badness, DeviceClass member no_user used to make device models unavailable with -device / device_add, but that regressed in commit 18b6dad. The device model is still omitted from help, but is available anyway. Attempts to fix the regression have been rejected with the argument that the purpose of no_user isn't clear, and it's prone to misuse. This commit clarifies no_user's purpose. Anthony suggested to rename it cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet_due_to_internal_bugs, which I shorten somewhat to keep checkpatch happy. While there, make it bool. Every use of cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet gets a FIXME comment asking for rationale. The next few commits will clean them all up, either by providing a rationale, or by getting rid of the use. With that done, the regression fix is hopefully acceptable.
