2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick1-2/+2
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI. Most files that have TABs only contain a handful of them. Change them to spaces so that we don't confuse people. disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported from other projects and probably should be exempted from the check. Outside those, after this patch the following files still contain both 8-space and TAB sequences at the beginning of the line. 2019-01-08hw/alpha/typhoon: Stop calling cpu_unassigned_access()Peter Maydell1-20/+27
The typhoon MemoryRegionOps callbacks directly call cpu_unassigned_access(), presumably as the old-fashioned way to provoke a CPU exception. This won't work since commit 6ad4d7eed05a1e235 when we switched Alpha over to the transaction_failed hook API, because now cpu_unassigned_access() is a no-op for Alpha. Make the MemoryRegionOps callbacks use the read_with_attrs and write_with_attrs hooks, so they can signal a failure that should cause a CPU exception by returning MEMTX_ERROR. 2017-12-05pci: Rename root bus initialization functions for clarityDavid Gibson1-4/+4
pci_bus_init(), pci_bus_new_inplace(), pci_bus_new() and pci_register_bus() are misleadingly named. They're not used for initializing *any* PCI bus, but only for a root PCI bus. Non-root buses - i.e. ones under a logical PCI to PCI bridge - are instead created with a direct qbus_create_inplace() (see pci_bridge_initfn()). 2017-09-19cpu: make cpu_generic_init() abort QEMU on errorIgor Mammedov1-4/+0
Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way and aborts process. Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check for failure, though they should have checked for it. In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal, so instead of checking for failure and reporting it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure. cpu_alpha_init() used to provide default fallback if invalid (i.e. non existent) cpu_model were provided. dp264 machine provides its own default so sole user of fallback is [bsd|linux]-user targets which specifies 'any' cpu model that fallbacks to "ev67" in cpu_alpha_init(). Push fallback handling into alpha_cpu_class_by_name() and replace cpu_alpha_init() with cpu_generic_init(). 2017-07-14memory/iommu: QOM'fy IOMMU MemoryRegionAlexey Kardashevskiy1-3/+5
This defines new QOM object - IOMMUMemoryRegion - with MemoryRegion as a parent. This moves IOMMU-related fields from MR to IOMMU MR. However to avoid dymanic QOM casting in fast path (address_space_translate, etc), this adds an @is_iommu boolean flag to MR and provides new helper to do simple cast to IOMMU MR - memory_region_get_iommu. The flag is set in the instance init callback. This defines memory_region_is_iommu as memory_region_get_iommu()!=NULL. This switches MemoryRegion to IOMMUMemoryRegion in most places except the ones where MemoryRegion may be an alias. This patch converts the old "is_write" bool into IOMMUAccessFlags. The difference is that "is_write" can only express either read/write, but sometimes what we really want is "none" here (neither read nor write). Replay is an good example - during replay, we should not check any RW permission bits since thats not an actual IO at all. 2017-02-21hw: Default -drive to if=ide explicitly where it worksMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
Block backends defined with -drive if=ide are meant to be picked up by machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and wired up automatically. if=ide drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning. -drive parameter "if" is optional, and the default depends on the machine type. If a machine type doesn't specify a default, the default is "ide". Many machine types default to if=ide, even though they don't actually have an IDE controller. A future patch will change these defaults to something more sensible. To prepare for it, this patch makes default "ide" explicit for the machines that actually pick up if=ide drives: * alpha: clipper * arm/aarch64: spitz borzoi terrier tosa * i386/x86_64: generic-pc-machine (with concrete subtypes pc-q35-* pc-i440fx-* pc-* isapc xenfv) * mips64el: fulong2e * mips/mipsel/mips64el: malta mips * ppc/ppc64: mac99 g3beige prep * sh4/sh4eb: r2d * sparc64: sun4u sun4v Note that ppc64 machine powernv already sets an "ide" default explicitly. We've currently got 18 architectures in QEMU, and thus 18 target-xxx folders in the root folder of the QEMU source tree. More architectures (e.g. RISC-V, AVR) are likely to be included soon, too, so the main folder of the QEMU sources slowly gets quite overcrowded with the target-xxx folders. To disburden the main folder a little bit, let's move the target-xxx folders into a dedicated target/ folder, so that target-xxx/ simply becomes target/xxx/ instead. 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. 2016-03-04loader: Add data swap option to load-elfPeter Crosthwaite1-2/+2
Some CPUs are of an opposite data-endianness to other components in the system. Sometimes elfs have the data sections layed out with this CPU data-endianness accounting for when loaded via the CPU, so byte swaps (relative to other system components) will occur. The leading example, is ARM's BE32 mode, which is is basically LE with address manipulation on half-word and byte accesses to access the hw/byte reversed address. This means that word data is invariant across LE and BE32. This also means that instructions are still LE. The expectation is that the elf will be loaded via the CPU in this endianness scheme, which means the data in the elf is reversed at compile time. As QEMU loads via the system memory directly, rather than the CPU, we need a mechanism to reverse elf data endianness to implement this possibility. We can have at most one ISA bus. If you try to create another one, isa_bus_new() complains to stderr and returns null. isa_bus_new() is called in two contexts, machine's init() and device's realize() methods. Since complaining to stderr is not proper in the latter context, convert isa_bus_new() to Error. Machine's init(): * mips_jazz_init(), called from the init() methods of machines "magnum" and "pica" * mips_r4k_init(), the init() method of machine "mips" * pc_init1() called from the init() methods of non-q35 PC machines * typhoon_init(), called from clipper_init(), the init() method of machine "clipper" These callers always create the first ISA bus, hence isa_bus_new() can't fail. Simply pass &error_abort. Device's realize(): * i82378_realize(), of PCI device "i82378" * ich9_lpc_realize(), of PCI device "ICH9-LPC" * pci_ebus_realize(), of PCI device "ebus" * piix3_realize(), of PCI device "pci-piix3", abstract parent of "PIIX3" and "PIIX3-xen" * piix4_realize(), of PCI device "PIIX4" * vt82c686b_realize(), of PCI device "VT82C686B" Propagate the error. Note that these devices are typically created only by machine init() methods with qdev_init_nofail() or similar. If we screwed up and created an ISA bus before that call, we now give up right away. This was done with the following script which generates a Coccinelle patch. 2014-10-03ide: Update ide_drive_get to be HBA agnosticJohn Snow1-1/+1
Instead of duplicating the logic for the if_ide (bus,unit) mappings, rely on the blockdev layer for managing those mappings for us, and use the drive_get_by_index call instead. This allows ide_drive_get to work for AHCI HBAs as well, and can be used in the Q35 initialization. Lastly, change the nature of the argument to ide_drive_get so that represents the number of total drives we can support, and not the total number of buses. This will prevent array overflows if the units-per-default-bus property ever needs to be adjusted for compatibility reasons.
