11 daysscripts: add script to help distros use global Rust packagesPaolo Bonzini1-0/+8
Some distros prefer to avoid vendored crate sources, and instead use local sources from e.g. ``/usr/share/cargo/registry``. Add a script, inspired by the Mesa spec file(*), that automatically performs this task. The script is meant to be invoked after unpacking the QEMU tarball. (*) This is the hack that Mesa uses: export MESON_PACKAGE_CACHE_DIR="%{cargo_registry}/" %define inst_crate_nameversion() %(basename %{cargo_registry}/%{1}-*) %define rewrite_wrap_file() sed -e "/source.*/d" -e "s/%{1}-.*/%{inst_crate_nameversion %{1}}/" -i subprojects/%{1}.wrap %rewrite_wrap_file proc-macro2 ... more %rewrite_wrap_file invocations follow ... 2025-07-04hw/arm/highbank: Mark the "highbank" and the "midway" machine as deprecatedThomas Huth1-0/+7
We don't have any automatic regression tests for these machines and when asking the usual suspects on the mailing list we came to the conclusion that nobody tests these machines manually, too, so it seems like this is currently just completely unused code. Mark them as depre- cated to see whether anybody still speaks up during the deprecation period, otherwise we can likely remove these two machines in a couple of releases. 2025-05-30hw/microblaze: Remove the big-endian variants of ml605 and xlnx-zynqmp-pmuThomas Huth2-6/+9
Both machines were added with little-endian in mind only (the "endianness" CPU property was hard-wired to "true", see commits 133d23b3ad1 and a88bbb006a52), so the variants that showed up on the big endian target likely never worked. We deprecated these non-working machine variants two releases ago, and so far nobody complained, so it should be fine now to disable them. Hard-wire the machines to little endian now. 2025-05-01qapi/block-core: deprecate some block-job- APIsVladimir Sementsov-Ogievskiy1-0/+31
For change, pause, resume, complete, dismiss and finalize actions corresponding job- and block-job commands are almost equal. The difference is in find_block_job_locked() vs find_job_locked() functions. What's different? 1. find_block_job_locked() checks whether the found job is a block-job. This is OK when moving to more generic API, no needs to document this change. 2. find_block_job_locked() reports DeviceNotActive on failure, when find_job_locked() reports GenericError. So, let's document this difference in deprecated.txt. Still, for dismiss and finalize errors are not documented at all, so be silent in deprecated.txt as well. 2025-04-07docs: deprecate RISC-V default machine optionDaniel Henrique Barboza1-0/+17
Commit 5b4beba124 ("RISC-V Spike Machines") added the Spike machine and made it default for qemu-system-riscv32/64. It was the first RISC-V machine added in QEMU so setting it as default was sensible. Today we have 7 riscv64 and 6 riscv32 machines and having 'spike' as default machine is not intuitive. For example, [1] is a bug that was opened with the 'virt' board in mind, but given that the user didn't pass a '-machine' option, the user was using 'spike' without knowing. Being explicit in the command line is desirable when we have a handful of boards available, so deprecate the default machine setting from RISC-V. 2025-02-07qemu-options: Deprecate -old-param command line optionPeter Maydell1-0/+13
The '-old-param' command line option is specific to Arm targets; it is very briefly documented as "old param mode". What this option actually does is change the behaviour when directly booting a guest kernel, so that command line arguments are passed to the kernel using the extremely old "param_struct" ABI, rather than the newer ATAGS or even newer DTB mechanisms. This support was added back in 2007 to support an old vendor kernel on the akita/terrier board types: https://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2007-07/msg00344.html Even then, it was an out-of-date mechanism from the kernel's point of view -- the kernel has had a comment since 2001 marking it as deprecated. As of mid-2024, the kernel only retained param_struct support for the RiscPC and Footbridge platforms: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-arm-kernel/2831c5a6-cfbf-4fe0-b51c-0396e5b0aeb7@app.fastmail.com/ None of the board types QEMU supports need param_struct support; mark this option as deprecated. 2025-02-07target/arm: deprecate the pxa2xx CPUs and iwMMXt emulationPeter Maydell1-0/+21
The pxa2xx CPUs are now only useful with user-mode emulation, because we dropped all the machine types that used them in 9.2. (Technically you could alse use "-cpu pxa270" with a board model like versatilepb which doesn't sanity-check the CPU type, but that has never been a supported config.) To use them (or iwMMXt emulation) with QEMU user-mode you would need to explicitly select them with the -cpu option or the QEMU_CPU environment variable. A google search finds no examples of anybody doing this in the last decade; I don't believe the GCC folks are using QEMU to test their iwMMXt codegen either. In fact, GCC is in the process of dropping support for iwMMXT entirely. The iwMMXt emulation is thousands of lines of code in QEMU, and is now the only bit of Arm insn decode which doesn't use decodetree. We have no way to test or validate changes to it. This code is just dead weight that is almost certainly not being used by anybody. Mark it as deprecated. 2024-11-06rust: allow older version of bindgenPaolo Bonzini1-0/+12
Cope with the old version that is provided in Debian 12. --size_t-is-usize is needed on bindgen <0.61.0, and it was removed in bindgen 0.65.0, so check for it in meson.build. --merge-extern-blocks was added in 0.61.0. --formatter rustfmt was added in 0.65.0 and is the default, so remove it. Apart from Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04, all other supported distros have version 0.66.x of bindgen or newer (or do not have bindgen at all). Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2024-11-05hw/microblaze: Deprecate big-endian petalogix-ml605 & xlnx-zynqmp-pmuPhilippe Mathieu-Daudé1-0/+6
The petalogix-ml605 machine was explicitly added as little-endian only machine in commit 00914b7d970 ("microblaze: Add PetaLogix ml605 MMU little-endian ref design"). Mark the big-endian version as deprecated. When the xlnx-zynqmp-pmu machine's CPU was added in commit 133d23b3ad1 ("xlnx-zynqmp-pmu: Add the CPU and memory"), its 'endianness' property was set to %true, thus wired in little endianness. Both machine are included in the big-endian system binary, while their CPU is working in little-endian. Unlikely to work as it. Deprecate now as broken config so we can remove soon. 2024-11-05crypto: purge 'loaded' property that was not fully removedDaniel P. Berrangé1-3/+3
The 'loaded' property on TLS creds and secret objects was marked as deprecated in 6.0.0. In 7.1.0 the deprecation info was moved into the 'removed-features.rst' file, but the property was not actually removed, just made read-only. This was a highly unusual practice, so finish the long overdue removal job.
