During the transition from debug intrinsics to debug records, we used several different command line options to customise handling: the printing of debug records to bitcode and textual could be independent of how the debug-info was represented inside a module, whether the autoupgrader ran could be customised. This was all valuable during development, but now that totally removing debug intrinsics is coming up, this patch removes those options in favour of a single flag (experimental-debuginfo-iterators), which enables autoupgrade, in-memory debug records, and debug record printing to bitcode and textual IR. We need to do this ahead of removing the experimental-debuginfo-iterators flag, to reduce the amount of test-juggling that happens at that time. There are quite a number of weird test behaviours related to this -- some of which I simply delete in this commit. Things like print-non-instruction-debug-info.ll , the test suite now checks for debug records in all tests, and we don't want to check we can print as intrinsics. Or the update_test_checks tests -- these are duplicated with write-experimental-debuginfo=false to ensure file writing for intrinsics is correct, but that's something we're imminently going to delete. A short survey of curious test changes: * free-intrinsics.ll: we don't need to test that debug-info is a zero cost intrinsic, because we won't be using intrinsics in the future. * undef-dbg-val.ll: apparently we pinned this to non-RemoveDIs in-memory mode while we sorted something out; it works now either way. * salvage-cast-debug-info.ll: was testing intrinsics-in-memory get salvaged, isn't necessary now * localize-constexpr-debuginfo.ll: was producing "dead metadata" intrinsics for optimised-out variable values, dbg-records takes the (correct) representation of poison/undef as an operand. Looks like we didn't update this in the past to avoid spurious test differences. * Transforms/Scalarizer/dbginfo.ll: this test was explicitly testing that debug-info affected codegen, and we deferred updating the tests until now. This is just one of those silent gnochange issues that get fixed by RemoveDIs. Finally: I've added a bitcode test, dbg-intrinsics-autoupgrade.ll.bc, that checks we can autoupgrade debug intrinsics that are in bitcode into the new debug records.

* Move the setup_host_tool calls to the directories of their tool. Although it works to call it in libclc, it can only appear in a single location so it fails the "what if everyone did this?" test and causes problems for downstream code that also wants to use native versions of these tools from other projects. * Correct the TARGET "${${tool}_target}" check. "${${tool}_target}" may be set to the path to the executable, which works in dependencies but cannot be tested using if(TARGET). For lack of a better alternative, just check that "${${tool}_target}" is non-empty and trust that if it is, it is set to a meaningful value. If somehow it turns out to be a valid target, its value will still show up in error messages anyway. * Account for llvm-spirv possibly being provided in-tree. Per https://github.com/KhronosGroup/SPIRV-LLVM-Translator?tab=readme-ov-file#llvm-in-tree-build it is possible to drop llvm-spirv into LLVM and have it built as part of LLVM's build. In this configuration, cross builds of LLVM require a native version of llvm-spirv to be built.

This patch enables parsing and creating modules directly into the new debug info format. Prior to this patch, all modules were constructed with the old debug info format by default, and would be converted into the new format just before running LLVM passes. This is an important milestone, in that this means that every tool will now be exposed to debug records, rather than those that run LLVM passes. As far as I've tested, all LLVM tools/projects now either handle debug records, or convert them to the old intrinsic format. There are a few unit tests that need updating for this patch; these are either cases of tests that previously needed to set the debug info format to function, or tests that depend on the old debug info format in some way. There should be no visible change in the output of any LLVM tool as a result of this patch, although the likelihood of this patch breaking downstream code means an NFC tag might be a little misleading, if not technically incorrect: This will probably break some downstream tools that don't already handle debug records. If your downstream code breaks as a result of this change, the simplest fix is to convert the module in question to the old debug format before you process it, using `Module::convertFromNewDbgValues()`. (#87789) Verify-uselistorder wants to take some input IR and verify that the uselist order is stable after roundtripping to bitcode and assembly. This is disrupted if the file is converted between the new and old debug info formats after parsing - while there's no functional difference, the change to the in-memory representation of the IR modifies the uselist. This patch changes verify-uselistorder to not convert input files between debug info formats by default, preventing changes from being made to the file being checked. In addition, this patch makes it so that when we _do_ print IR in the new debug info format to bitcode or assembly, we delete any lingering debug intrinsic declarations, ensuring that we don't write uselist entries for them.

Added the following records: FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_LABEL FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_DECLARE FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_ASSIGN FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE_SIMPLE The last one has an abbrev in FUNCTION_BLOCK BLOCK_INFO. Incidentally, this uses the last value available without widening the code-length for FUNCTION_BLOCK from 4 to 5 bits. Records are formatted as follows: All DbgRecord start with: 1. DILocation FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_LABEL 2. DILabel DPValues then share common fields: 2. DILocalVariable 3. DIExpression FUNC_CODE_DEBUG_RECORD_VALUE 4. 2023-01-12[IR] Support importing modules with invalid data layouts.Jannik Silvanus1-1/+1
Use the existing mechanism to change the data layout using callbacks. Before this patch, we had a callback type DataLayoutCallbackTy that receives a single StringRef specifying the target triple, and optionally returns the data layout string to be used. Module loaders (both IR and BC) then apply the callback to potentially override the module's data layout, after first having imported and parsed the data layout from the file. We can't do the same to fix invalid data layouts, because the import will already fail, before the callback has a chance to fix it. Instead, module loaders now tentatively parse the data layout into a string, wait until the target triple has been parsed, apply the override callback to the imported string and only then parse the tentative string as a data layout. Moreover, add the old data layout string S as second argument to the callback, in addition to the already existing target triple argument. S is either the default data layout string in case none is specified, or the data layout string specified in the module, possibly after auto-upgrades (for the BitcodeReader). This allows callbacks to inspect the old data layout string, and fix it instead of setting a fixed data layout. We don't want to start updating tests to use opaque pointers until we're close to the opaque pointer transition. However, before the transition we want to run tests as if pointers are opaque pointers to see if there are any crashes. At some point when we have a flag to only create opaque pointers in the bitcode and textual IR readers, and when we have fixed all places that try to read a pointee type, this flag will be useless. However, until then, this can help us find issues more easily. Since the cl::opt is read into LLVMContext, we need to make sure LLVMContext is created after cl::ParseCommandLineOptions(). Previously ValueEnumerator would visit the value types of global values via the pointer type, but with opaque pointers we have to manually visit the value type. Instead, leverage the existing `add_llvm_componentlibrary` cmake function and introduce `add_llvm_component_group` to accurately describe component behavior. These function store extra properties in the created targets. For IR generated by a compiler, this is really simple: you just take the datalayout from the beginning of the file, and apply it to all the IR later in the file. For optimization testcases that don't care about the datalayout, this is also really simple: we just use the default datalayout. The complexity here comes from the fact that some LLVM tools allow overriding the datalayout: some tools have an explicit flag for this, some tools will infer a datalayout based on the code generation target. Supporting this properly required plumbing through a bunch of new machinery: we want to allow overriding the datalayout after the datalayout is parsed from the file, but before we use any information from it. Therefore, IR/bitcode parsing now has a callback to allow tools to compute the datalayout at the appropriate time. Not sure if I covered all the LLVM tools that want to use the callback. (clang? lli? Misc IR manipulation tools like llvm-link?). But this is at least enough for all the LLVM regression tests, and IR without a datalayout is not something frontends should generate. This change had some sort of weird effects for certain CodeGen regression tests: if the datalayout is overridden with a datalayout with a different program or stack address space, we now parse IR based on the overridden datalayout, instead of the one written in the file (or the default one, if none is specified). This broke a few AVR tests, and one AMDGPU test. Outside the CodeGen tests I mentioned, the test changes are all just fixing CHECK lines and moving around datalayout lines in weird places. to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. 2018-01-30LLParser: add an argument for overriding data layout and do not check alloca ↵Yaxun Liu1-2/+7
addr space Sometimes users do not specify data layout in LLVM assembly and let llc set the data layout by target triple after loading the LLVM assembly. Currently the parser checks alloca address space no matter whether the LLVM assembly contains data layout definition, which causes false alarm since the default data layout does not contain the correct alloca address space. The parser also calls verifier to check debug info and updating invalid debug info. Currently there is no way to let the verifier to check debug info only. If the verifier finds non-debug-info issues the parser will fail. For llc, the fix is to remove the check of alloca addr space in the parser and disable updating debug info, and defer the updating of debug info and verification to be after setting data layout of the IR by target. For other llvm tools, since they do not override data layout by target but instead can override data layout by a command line option, an argument for overriding data layout is added to the parser. 2017-10-02Move the stripping of invalid debug info from the Verifier to AutoUpgrade.Adrian Prantl1-1/+2
This came out of a recent discussion on llvm-dev (https://reviews.llvm.org/D38042). Currently the Verifier will strip the debug info metadata from a module if it finds the dbeug info to be malformed. This feature is very valuable since it allows us to improve the Verifier by making it stricter without breaking bcompatibility, but arguable the Verifier pass should not be modifying the IR. This patch moves the stripping of broken debug info into AutoUpgrade (UpgradeDebugInfo to be precise), which is a much better location for this since the stripping of malformed (i.e., produced by older, buggy versions of Clang) is a (harsh) form of AutoUpgrade. This change is mostly NFC in nature, the one big difference is the behavior when LLVM module passes are introducing malformed debug info. Prior to this patch, a NoAsserts build would have printed a warning and stripped the debug info, after this patch the Verifier will report a fatal error. 2016-04-11[ThinLTO] Move summary computation from BitcodeWriter to new passTeresa Johnson3-4/+11
Summary: This is the first step in also serializing the index out to LLVM assembly. The per-module summary written to bitcode is moved out of the bitcode writer and to a new analysis pass (ModuleSummaryIndexWrapperPass). The pass itself uses a new builder class to compute index, and the builder class is used directly in places where we don't have a pass manager (e.g. llvm-as). Because we are computing summaries outside of the bitcode writer, we no longer can use value ids created by the bitcode writer's ValueEnumerator. This required changing the reference graph edge type to use a new ValueInfo class holding a union between a GUID (combined index) and Value* (permodule index). The Value* are converted to the appropriate value ID during bitcode writing. Also, this enables removal of the BitWriter library's dependence on the Analysis library that was previously required for the summary computation.
