2024-05-18socket: Use may_alias on sockaddr structs (bug 19622)Florian Weimer1-2/+2
This supports common coding patterns. The GCC C front end before version 7 rejects the may_alias attribute on a struct definition if it was not present in a previous forward declaration, so this attribute can only be conditionally applied. This implements the spirit of the change in Austin Group issue 1641. 2024-02-08Add SOL_VSOCK from Linux 6.7 to bits/socket.hJoseph Myers1-0/+1
Linux 6.7 adds a constant SOL_VSOCK (recall that various constants in include/linux/socket.h are in fact part of the kernel-userspace API despite that not being a uapi header). Add it to glibc's bits/socket.h. Tested for x86_64.

2023-10-16Add SCM_SECURITY, SCM_PIDFD to bits/socket.hJoseph Myers1-0/+4
Linux 6.5 adds a constant SCM_PIDFD (recall that the non-uapi linux/socket.h, where this constant is added, is in fact a header providing many constants that are part of the kernel/userspace interface). This shows up that SCM_SECURITY, from the same set of definitions and added in Linux 2.6.17, is also missing from glibc, although glibc has the first two constants from this set, SCM_RIGHTS and SCM_CREDENTIALS; add both missing constants to glibc. Tested for x86_64.

2022-08-02socket: Check lengths before advancing pointer in CMSG_NXTHDRArjun Shankar1-7/+33
The inline and library functions that the CMSG_NXTHDR macro may expand to increment the pointer to the header before checking the stride of the increment against available space. Since C only allows incrementing pointers to one past the end of an array, the increment must be done after a length check. This commit fixes that and includes a regression test for CMSG_FIRSTHDR and CMSG_NXTHDR. The Linux, Hurd, and generic headers are all changed. Tested on Linux on armv7hl, i686, x86_64, aarch64, ppc64le, and s390x. [BZ #28846] Reviewed-by: Siddhesh Poyarekar <siddhesh@sourceware.org>

2019-11-29Update SOMAXCONN value from Linux 5.4.Joseph Myers1-1/+1
Linux 5.4 changes the SOMAXCONN value from 128 to 4096 (this isn't in a uapi header; various constants related to the kernel/userspace interface, including this one, are in the non-uapi linux/socket.h header). This patch increases the value in glibc. As I understand it, it is safe to use a higher value even with older kernels (the kernel will simply adjust the value passed to listen to be no more than the value supported in the kernel), and SOMAXCONN is actually only a default for a sysctl value in the kernel that can be changed at runtime. So I think updating the value in glibc is a reasonable and safe thing to do. Tested for x86_64.

2019-07-24Linux: Use in-tree copy of SO_ constants for !__USE_MISC [BZ #24532]Florian Weimer1-92/+6
The kernel changes for a 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures resulted in <asm/socket.h> indirectly including <linux/posix_types.h>. The latter is not namespace-clean for the POSIX version of <sys/socket.h>. This issue has persisted across several Linux releases, so this commit creates our own copy of the SO_* definitions for !__USE_MISC mode. The new test socket/tst-socket-consts ensures that the copy is consistent with the kernel definitions (which vary across architectures). The test is tricky to get right because CPPFLAGS includes include/libc-symbols.h, which in turn defines _GNU_SOURCE unconditionally. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. I verified that a discrepancy in the definitions actually results in a failure of the socket/tst-socket-consts test.

2017-04-18Fix bits/socket.h IOC* namespace issues (bug 21267).Joseph Myers1-0/+35
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h includes asm/socket.h. That includes asm/sockios.h, which on MIPS includes asm/ioctl.h, resulting in namespace violations from IOC* macros. bits/socket.h already has code to handle asm/socket.h unconditionally defining macros that are only wanted for __USE_MISC. This patch extends it to handle the IOC* macros as well (always undefining them if not defined when bits/socket.h was included, as I don't think they are part of the intended API even for __USE_MISC). It's possible there should also be a kernel fix - it's not clear to me that IOC* belong in the uapi headers, and even if they do they might best be split out into another header to avoid getting defined by this particular path. But since glibc needs to deal with existing kernel headers, it also seems appropriate to extend the existing workaround to these macros. Tested (compilation only) with build-many-glibcs.py. 2016-09-23Installed-header hygiene (BZ#20366): Simple self-contained fixes.Zack Weinberg1-2/+2
Some headers did not include all of their prerequisite headers. * rpcsvc/nislib.h: Include rpcsvc/nis.h. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/netrose/rose.h: Include sys/socket.h and netax25/ax25.h. <endian.h> only defines BYTE_ORDER, BIG_ENDIAN, LITTLE_ENDIAN, etc. under __USE_MISC; glibc's headers should use __BYTE_ORDER, __BIG_ENDIAN, __LITTLE_ENDIAN, etc. instead. * inet/netinet/icmp6.h, inet/netinet/ip6.h * resolv/arpa/nameser_compat.h: Use __BYTE_ORDER etc. instead of BYTE_ORDER etc. sys/types.h only conditionally defines caddr_t and clockid_t. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/quota.h: Use __caddr_t instead of caddr_t. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sys/timerfd.h: Use __clockid_t instead of clockid_t. Remove a #warning that was the sole actual problem with using sys/ipc.h without _GNU_SOURCE/_XOPEN_SOURCE. * sysvipc/sys/ipc.h: Remove unnecessary #warning. _LIBC, __USE_XOPEN2K8, and __STDC_VERSION__ are not always defined. It seems to me that _LIBC should not appear in installed headers, but avoiding that for argp specifically would require more surgery than feels appropriate for this patch set. It's possible that "#ifdef _LIBC" would be sufficient, but I wanted to be conservative. All three versions of bits/socket.h want to know whether __flexarr will produce a real flexible array member -- specifically, one that doesn't alter sizeof(the structure containing it). They were testing for this with a complicated #if condition that did not agree with sys/cdefs.h and that tripped -Wundef warnings under -std=c90. I added a new macro to sys/cdefs.h, __glibc_c99_flexarr_available, which reveals exactly what these headers want to know. I also took the opportunity to flatten the rather messy conditional nest defining __flexarr. * argp/argp.h: Check whether _LIBC is defined before expanding it. * posix/glob.h: Check whether __USE_XOPEN2K8 is defined instead of expanding it. * misc/sys/cdefs.h: Tidy up conditional nest defining __flexarr. Define __glibc_c99_flexarr_available to 1 when the compiler supports C99-compatible flexible array members, 0 otherwise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h * sysdeps/mach/hurd/bits/socket.h * bits/socket.h: Use __glibc_c99_flexarr_available in definitions of struct cmsghdr and CMSG_DATA.

2016-06-10Revert {send,sendm,recv,recvm}msg conformance changesAdhemerval Zanella1-39/+10
After some discussion in libc-alpha about this POSIX compliance fix, I see that GLIBC should indeed revert back to previous definition of msghdr and cmsghdr and implementation of sendmsg, recvmsg, sendmmsg, recvmmsg due some reasons: * The possible issue where the syscalls wrapper add the compatibility layer is quite limited in scope and range. And kernel current also add some limits to the values on the internal msghdr and cmsghdr fields: - msghdr::msg_iovlen larger than UIO_MAXIOV (1024) returns EMSGSIZE. - msghdr::msg_controllen larger than INT_MAX returns ENOBUFS. * There is a small performance hit for recvmsg/sendmsg/recmmsg which is neglectable, but it is a big hit for sendmmsg since now instead of calling the syscall for the packed structure, GLIBC is calling multiple sendmsg. This defeat the very existence of the syscall. * It currently breaks libsanitizer build on GCC [1] (I fixed on compiler-rt). However the fix is incomplete because it does add any runtime check since libsanitizer currently does not have any facility to intercept symbols with multiple version [2]. This, along with incorret dlsym/dlvsym return for versioned symbol due another bug [3], makes hard to interpose versioned symbols. Also, current approach of fixing GCC PR#71445 leads to half-baked solutions without versioned symbol interposing. This patch basically reverts commits 2f0dc39029ae08, 222c2d7f4357d66, af7f7c7ec8dea1. I decided to not revert abf29edd4a3918 (Adjust kernel-features.h defaults for recvmsg and sendmsg) mainly because it does not really address the POSIX compliance original issue and also adds some cleanups. 2016-05-25network: recvmsg and sendmsg standard compliance (BZ#16919)Adhemerval Zanella1-10/+39
POSIX specifies that both msghdr::msg_iovlen and msghdr::msg_controllen to be of size int and socklen_t respectively. However Linux defines it as both size_t and for 64-bit it requires some adjustments to make the functions standard compliance. This patch fixes it by creating a temporary header and zeroing the pad fields for 64-bits architecture where size of size_t exceeds the size of the int. Also the new recvmsg and sendmsg implementation is only added on libc, with libpthread only containing a compat symbol. 2016-05-23Make padding in struct sockaddr_storage explicit [BZ #20111]Florian Weimer1-4/+4
This avoids aliasing issues with GCC 6 in -fno-strict-aliasing mode. (With implicit padding, not all data is copied.) This change makes it explicit that struct sockaddr_storage is only 126 bytes large on m68k (unlike elsewhere, where we end up with the requested 128 bytes). The new test case makes sure that this does not happen on other architectures.
2016-05-23Update sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h for Linux 4.6.Joseph Myers1-1/+20
This patch updates sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h for new constants added in Linux 4.6. AF_KCM / PF_KCM are added. SOL_KCM is new, and I added a lot of SOL_* values postdating the last one present in the header, since I saw no apparent reason for the set in glibc to stop at SOL_IRDA. MSG_BATCH is added; Linux also has MSG_SENDPAGE_NOTLAST which is not in glibc, but given the comment starts "sendpage() internal" I presume it's correct for it not to be in glibc. (Note that this is a case where the Linux kernel header with userspace relevant values is *not* a uapi header but include/linux/socket.h - I don't know why, but at least this header, as well as uapi headers, needs reviewing for glibc-relevant changes each release.) Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h (PF_KCM): New macro. (PF_MAX): Update value. 2015-06-29Update headers for Linux 4.0, 4.1 definitions.Joseph Myers1-0/+4
This patch updates installed glibc headers for new definitions from Linux 4.0 and 4.1 that seem relevant to glibc headers. In addition, I noticed that PF_IB / AF_IB, added in Linux 3.11, were missing for no obvious reason, so added those as well. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/in.h (IP_CHECKSUM): New macro. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/socket.h (PF_IB): Likewise. 2014-02-21Complete _BSD_SOURCE / _SVID_source followup cleanup.Joseph Myers1-2/+2
This patch completes the headers cleanup consequent on removal of _BSD_SOURCE and _SVID_SOURCE (apart from any subsequent deprecations): * #endif conditionals that referred to BSD or SVID are updated. * Redundant __USE_* tests in cases involving __USE_MISC are removed. This includes cases such as __USE_MISC || __USE_ISOC99, where __USE_MISC is redundant (because __USE_MISC is only ever defined in the default / _DEFAULT_SOURCE / _GNU_SOURCE case, when __USE_ISOC99 is also defined; the same applies to the non-XSI-extended POSIX versions), and cases involving __USE_GNU, where __USE_GNU is redundant (because if __USE_GNU is defined, so are the other __USE_* macros). There may well be other cases of __USE_FOO || __USE_BAR tests that could be simplified because one macro implies the other; this patch only addresses cases involving __USE_MISC.
