2025-07-21Revert "Linux: Keep termios ioctl constants strictly internal"Florian Weimer1-0/+36
This reverts commit 3d3572f59059e2b19b8541ea648a6172136ec42e. Reason for revert: TCGETS etc. work to some extent on at least a subset of architectures, so there is no pressing need to force applications off them. Removal of the macros breaks building the sanitizers, impacting both GCC and LLVM. Reviewed-by: Sam James <sam@gentoo.org>
2025-07-11Linux: Keep termios ioctl constants strictly internalFlorian Weimer1-36/+0
Undefine TCGETS, TCGETS2, and related ioctl constants in the installed headers. Extract the correct constants (using the kernel type definitions) automatically from the UAPI headers. The kernel constants are available under KERNEL_* names during the glibc build, computed using assembler constant extraction mechanism. Alpha may have to use TCGETS instead of TCGETS2 because TCTGETS2 became available in Linux 4.20 only. Introduce ARCH_TCGETS to make this choice explict. To support emulation on powerpc, glibc versions of the termios constants are added to the emulation code in internal-ioctl.h. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

2025-06-17linux: implement arbitrary and split speeds in termiosH. Peter Anvin (Intel)2-22/+23
Linux has supported arbitrary speeds and split speeds in the kernel since 2008 on all platforms except Alpha (fixed in 2020), but glibc was never updated to match. This is further complicated by POSIX uses of macros for the cf[gs]et[io]speed interfaces, rather than plain numbers, as it really ought to have. On most platforms, the glibc ABI includes the c_[io]speed fields in struct termios, but they are incorrectly used. On MIPS and SPARC, they are entirely missing. For backwards compatibility, the kernel will still use the legacy speed fields unless they are set to BOTHER, and will use the legacy output speed as the input speed if the latter is 0 (== B0). However, the specific encoding used is visible to user space applications, including ones other than the one running. - SPARC and MIPS get a new struct termios, and tc[gs]etattr() is versioned accordingly. However, the new struct termios is set to be a strict extension of the old one, which means that cf* interfaces other than the speed-related ones do not need versioning. - The Bxxx constants are redefined as equivalent to their integer values and the legacy Bxxx constants are renamed __Bxxx. - cf[gs]et[io]speed() and cfsetspeed() are versioned accordingly. - tcgetattr() and cfset[io]speed() are adjusted to always keep the c_[io]speed fields correct (unlike earlier versions), but to canonicalize the representation to ALSO configure the legacy fields if a valid legacy representation exists. - tcsetattr(), too, canonicalizes the representation in this way before passing it to the kernel, to maximize compatibility with older applications/tools. - The old IBAUD0 hack is removed; it is no longer necessary since even the legacy c_cflag baud rate fields have had separate input values for a long time. 2022-10-24Add ADDRB from Linux 6.0 to bits/termios-c_cflag.hJoseph Myers1-0/+4
Linux 6.0 adds a constant ADDRB, a termios c_cflag bit, to its include/uapi/asm-generic/termbits-common.h. Add it accordingly to glibc's bits/termios-c_cflag.h headers. As other constants in these headers are generally in octal, I converted the value to octal to match. As ADDRB isn't in a POSIX-reserved namespace, I made it conditional on __USE_MISC. Tested for x86_64.

2020-12-21alpha: Remove anonymous union in struct stat [BZ #27042]Matt Turner1-39/+42
This is clever, but it confuses downstream detection in at least zstd and GNOME's glib. zstd has preprocessor tests for the 'st_mtime' macro, which is not provided by the path using the anonymous union; glib checks for the presence of 'st_mtimensec' in struct stat but then tries to access that field in struct statx (which might be a bug on its own). Checked with a build for alpha-linux-gnu.

2020-07-07signal: Add signum-{generic,arch}.hAdhemerval Zanella2-40/+67
It refactor how signals are defined by each architecture. Instead of include a generic header (bits/signum-generic.h) and undef non-default values in an arch specific header (bits/signum.h) the new scheme uses a common definition (bits/signum-generic.h) and each architectures add its specific definitions on a new header (bits/signum-arch.h). For Linux it requires copy some system default definitions to alpha, hppa, and sparc. They are historical values and newer ports uses the generic Linux signum-arch.h. For Hurd the BSD signum is removed and moved to a new header (it is used currently only on Hurd). Checked on a build against all affected ABIs. 2020-04-02sysv: Define __KERNEL_OLD_TIMEVAL_MATCHES_TIMEVAL64Alistair Francis1-0/+3
On y2038 safe 32-bit systems the Linux kernel expects itimerval and rusage to use a 32-bit time_t, even though the other time_t's are 64-bit. There are currently no plans to make 64-bit time_t versions of these structs. There are also other occurrences where the time passed to the kernel via timeval doesn't match the wordsize. To handle these cases let's define a new macro __KERNEL_OLD_TIMEVAL_MATCHES_TIMEVAL64. This macro specifies if the kernel's old_timeval matches the new timeval64. This should be 1 for 64-bit architectures except for Alpha's osf syscalls. The define should be 0 for 32-bit architectures and Alpha's osf syscalls. 2019-10-10sysvipc: Set ipc_perm mode as mode_t (BZ#18231)Adhemerval Zanella1-54/+0
This patch sets the mode field in ipc_perm as mode_t for all architectures, as POSIX specification [1]. The changes required are as follow: 1. It moves the ipc_perm definition out of ipc.h to its own header ipc_perm.h. It also allows consolidate the IPC_* definition on only one header. 2. The generic implementation follow the kernel ipc64_perm size so the syscall can be made directly without temporary buffer copy. However, since glibc defines the MODE field as mode_t, it omits the __PAD1 field (since glibc does not export mode_t as 16-bit for any architecture). It is a two-fold improvement: 2.1. New implementation which follow Linux UAPI will not need to provide an arch-specific ipc-perm.h header neither wrongly use the wrong 16-bit definition from previous default ipc.h (as csky did). 2.1. It allows consolidate ipc_perm definition for architectures that already provide mode_t as 32-bit. 3. All kernel ABIs for the supported architectures already provides the expected padding for mode type extension to 32-bit. However, some architectures the padding has the wrong placement, so it requires the ipc control routines (msgctl, semctl, and shmctl) to adjust the mode field accordingly. Currently they are armeb, microblaze, m68k, s390, and sheb. A new assume is added, __ASSUME_SYSVIPC_BROKEN_MODE_T, which the required ABIs define. 4. For the ABIs that define __ASSUME_SYSVIPC_BROKEN_MODE_T, it also require compat symbols that do not adjust the mode field. Checked on arm-linux-gnueabihf, aarch64-linux-gnu, powerpc64le-linux-gnu, and x86_64-linux-gnu. I also checked the sysvipc tests on hppa-linux-gnu, sh4-linux-gnu, s390x-linux-gnu, and s390-linux-gnu. 2019-07-24Linux: Use in-tree copy of SO_ constants for !__USE_MISC [BZ #24532]Florian Weimer1-0/+38
The kernel changes for a 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures resulted in <asm/socket.h> indirectly including <linux/posix_types.h>. The latter is not namespace-clean for the POSIX version of <sys/socket.h>. This issue has persisted across several Linux releases, so this commit creates our own copy of the SO_* definitions for !__USE_MISC mode. The new test socket/tst-socket-consts ensures that the copy is consistent with the kernel definitions (which vary across architectures). The test is tricky to get right because CPPFLAGS includes include/libc-symbols.h, which in turn defines _GNU_SOURCE unconditionally. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. I verified that a discrepancy in the definitions actually results in a failure of the socket/tst-socket-consts test.

2018-10-10Use common bits/shm.h for more architectures.Joseph Myers1-101/+0
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/shm.h has padding after time fields in struct shmid_ds unconditionally, and thus is only suitable for 32-bit architectures (no 64-bit configurations use this file); sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/generic/bits/shm.h is substantively the same, except that the padding is conditioned on __WORDSIZE == 32, and so it can be used for 64-bit architectures as well. This patch adds the conditionals to sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/shm.h. The linux/generic/ version is then no longer needed and so is removed, as are the alpha and s390 versions which are also no longer needed. The other architecture-specific versions have different padding, layout, types or SHMLBA definitions and so are still needed after this change. This is essentially the same change for bits/shm.h as the bits/msq.h patch and the bits/sem.h patch. However, the details of the padding variations for the architectures that aren't changed are not all the same between msqid_ds, shmid_ds and semid_ds. 2018-09-25Complete sys/procfs.h unification.Joseph Myers2-0/+63
This patch completes the process of unifying sys/procfs.h headers for architectures using the Linux kernel by making alpha use the generic version. That was previously deferred because alpha has different definitions of prgregset_t and prfpregset_t from other architectures, so changing to the common definitions would change C++ name mangling. To avoid such a change, a header bits/procfs-prregset.h is added, and alpha gets its own version of that header. 2017-08-07Fix XPG4.2 bits/sigaction.h namespace (bug 21899).Joseph Myers1-3/+3
For XPG4.2, sa_sigaction, SA_ONSTACK, SA_RESETHAND, SA_RESTART and SA_NODEFER should be defined in signal.h, but they are only defined for other standards at present. This patch fixes the various bits/sigaction.h headers accordingly. All the fixes are essentially the same, except those for SPARC and Tile. For SPARC, the header (a) spuriously defined various nonstandard macros for __USE_UNIX98 || defined __USE_XOPEN2K8 and (b) defined some standard macros as aliases of nonstandard ones instead of the other way round. This patch fixes the SPARC header to handle these macros the same way and with the same conditions as those for other architectures, so the standard macros are the primary ones and the other ones are defined only for __USE_MISC and are aliases of the standard ones where applicable. For Tile, the header spuriously defined the nonstandard macro SA_NOPTRACE for __USE_UNIX98 || defined __USE_XOPEN2K8; this is moved to __USE_MISC. (Those nonstandard macros are in a reserved namespace, but it seems desirable to be consistent between architectures as far as possible, and so not define them in standard modes anywhere.) Tested for x86_64, and with build-many-glibcs.py. [BZ #21899] * bits/sigaction.h (struct sigaction): Define sa_handler and sa_sigaction using union also for [__USE_XOPEN_EXTENDED].
