2024-07-16Add pthread_getname_np and pthread_setname_np for HurdFlavio Cruz1-0/+6
We use thread_get_name and thread_set_name to get and set the thread name, so nothing is stored in the thread structure since these functions are supposed to be called sparingly. One notable difference with Linux is that the thread name is up to 32 chars, whereas Linux's is 16. Also added a mach_RPC_CHECK to check for the existing of gnumach RPCs.

2024-03-19arm: Update _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic to preserve caller-saved registers (BZ 31372)Adhemerval Zanella1-0/+3
ARM _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic slow path has two issues: * The ip/r12 is defined by AAPCS as a scratch register, and gcc is used to save the stack pointer before on some function calls. So it should also be saved/restored as well. It fixes the tst-gnu2-tls2. * None of the possible VFP registers are saved/restored. ARM has the additional complexity to have different VFP bank sizes (depending of VFP support by the chip). The tst-gnu2-tls2 test is extended to check for VFP registers, although only for hardfp builds. Different than setcontext, _dl_tlsdesc_dynamic does not have HWCAP_ARM_IWMMXT (I don't have a way to properly test it and it is almost a decade since newer hardware was released). 2023-05-11Stop checking if MiG supports retcode.Flavio Cruz1-3/+0
We already did the same change for Hurd (https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hurd/hurd.git/commit/?id=ef5924402864ef049f40a39e73967628583bc1a4) Due to MiG requiring the subsystem to be defined early in order to know the size of a port, this was causing a division by zero error during ./configure. We could have just move subsystem to the top of the snippet, however it is simpler to just remove the check given that we have no plans to use some other MiG anyway. HAVE_MIG_RETCODE is removed completely since this will be a no-op either way (compiling against old Hurd headers will work the same, new Hurd headers will result in the same stubs since retcode is a no-op). 2023-02-07C-SKY: Strip hard float abi from hard float feature.quxm1-1/+4
The hard float abi and hard float are different, Hard float abi: Use float register to pass float type arguments. Hard float: Enable the hard float ISA feature. So the with_fp_cond cannot represent these two features. When -mfloat-abi=softfp, the float abi is soft and hard float is enabled. So add 'with_hard_float_abi' in preconfigure and define 'CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_ABI' if float abi is hard, and use 'CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_ABI' to determine dynamic linker because it is what determines compatibility. And with_fp_cond is still needed to tell glibc whether to enable hard floating feature. In addition, use AC_TRY_COMMAND to test gcc to ensure compatibility between different versions of gcc. The original way has a problem that __CSKY_HARD_FLOAT_FPU_SF__ means the target only has single hard float-points ISA, so it's not defined in CPUs like ck810f. 2022-01-13i386: Remove broken CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP (bug 28771)Florian Weimer1-4/+0
The configure check for CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP tried to compile a simple function that uses %ebp as an inline assembly operand. If compilation failed, CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP was set 0, which eventually had these consequences: (1) %ebx was avoided as an inline assembly operand, with an assembler macro hack to avoid unnecessary register moves. (2) %ebp was avoided as an inline assembly operand, using an out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system calls. (1) is no longer needed for any GCC version that is supported for building glibc. %ebx can be used directly as a register operand. Therefore, this commit removes the %ebx avoidance completely. This avoids the assembler macro hack, which turns out to be incompatible with the current Systemtap probe macros (which switch to .altmacro unconditionally). (2) is still needed in many build configurations. The existing configure check cannot really capture that because the simple function succeeds to compile, while the full glibc build still fails. Therefore, this commit removes the check, the CAN_USE_REGISTER_ASM_EBP macro, and uses the out-of-line syscall function for 6-argument system calls unconditionally. Reviewed-by: H.J. 2021-12-13Replace --enable-static-pie with --disable-default-pieSiddhesh Poyarekar1-0/+3
Build glibc programs and tests as PIE by default and enable static-pie automatically if the architecture and toolchain supports it. Also add a new configuration option --disable-default-pie to prevent building programs as PIE. Only the following architectures now have PIE disabled by default because they do not work at the moment. hppa, ia64, alpha and csky don't work because the linker is unable to handle a pcrel relocation generated from PIE objects. The microblaze compiler is currently failing with an ICE. GNU hurd tries to enable static-pie, which does not work and hence fails. All these targets have default PIE disabled at the moment and I have left it to the target maintainers to enable PIE on their targets. build-many-glibcs runs clean for all targets. 2021-06-10Add build option to disable usage of scv on powerpcMatheus Castanho1-0/+3
Commit 68ab82f56690ada86ac1e0c46bad06ba189a10ef added support for the scv syscall ABI on powerpc. Since then systems that have kernel and processor support started using scv. However adding the proper support for a new syscall ABI requires changes to several other projects (e.g. qemu, valgrind, strace, kernel), which are gradually receiving support. Meanwhile, having a way to disable scv on glibc at build time can be useful for distros that may encounter conflicts with projects that still do not support the scv ABI, buying time until proper support is added. This commit adds a --disable-scv option that disables scv support and uses sc for all syscalls, like before commit 68ab82f56690ada86ac1e0c46bad06ba189a10ef. 2021-03-25Support for multiple versions in versioned_symbol, compat_symbolFlorian Weimer1-0/+4
This essentially folds compat_symbol_unique functionality into compat_symbol. This change eliminates the need for intermediate aliases for defining multiple symbol versions, for both compat_symbol and versioned_symbol. Some binutils versions do not suport multiple versions per symbol on some targets, so aliases are automatically introduced, similar to what compat_symbol_unique did. To reduce symbol table sizes, a configure check is added to avoid these aliases if they are not needed. The new mechanism works with data symbols as well as function symbols, due to the way an assembler-level redirect is used. It is not compatible with weak symbols for old binutils versions, which is why the definition of __malloc_initialize_hook had to be changed. This is not a loss of functionality because weak symbols do not matter to dynamic linking. The placeholder symbol needs repeating in nptl/libpthread-compat.c now that compat_symbol is used, but that seems more obvious than introducing yet another macro. A subtle difference was that compat_symbol_unique made the symbol global automatically. compat_symbol does not do this, so static had to be removed from the definition of __libpthread_version_placeholder. 2020-07-08aarch64: configure check for pac-ret code generationSzabolcs Nagy1-0/+3
Return address signing requires unwinder support, which is present in libgcc since >=gcc-7, however due to bugs the support may be broken in <gcc-10 (and similarly there may be issues in custom unwinders), so pac-ret is not always safe to use. So in assembly code glibc should only use pac-ret if the compiler uses it too. Unfortunately there is no predefined feature macro for it set by the compiler so pac-ret is inferred from the code generation. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>
2020-07-08aarch64: configure test for BTI supportSzabolcs Nagy1-0/+3
Check BTI support in the compiler and linker. The check also requires READELF that understands the BTI GNU property note. It is expected to succeed with gcc >=gcc-9 configured with --enable-standard-branch-protection and binutils >=binutils-2.33. Note: passing -mbranch-protection=bti in CFLAGS when building glibc may not be enough to get a glibc that supports BTI because crtbegin* and crtend* provided by the compiler needs to be BTI compatible too. 2020-05-18x86: Add --enable-cet=permissiveH.J. Lu1-0/+3
When CET is enabled, it is an error to dlopen a non CET enabled shared library in CET enabled application. It may be desirable to make CET permissive, that is disable CET when dlopening a non CET enabled shared library. With the new --enable-cet=permissive configure option, CET is disabled when dlopening a non CET enabled shared library. Add DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL to config.h.in: /* The default value of x86 CET control. */ #define DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL cet_elf_property which enables CET features based on ELF property note. --enable-cet=permissive it to /* The default value of x86 CET control. */ #define DEFAULT_DL_X86_CET_CONTROL cet_permissive which enables CET features permissively. Update tst-cet-legacy-5a, tst-cet-legacy-5b, tst-cet-legacy-6a and tst-cet-legacy-6b to check --enable-cet and --enable-cet=permissive.
2020-05-18Remove NO_CTORS_DTORS_SECTIONS macroFlorian Weimer1-3/+0
This was originally added to support binutils older than version 2.22: <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2010-12/msg00051.html> Since 2.22 is older than the minimum required binutils version for building glibc, we no longer need this. (The changes do not impact the statically linked startup code.)
