2024-04-20LoongArch: Add -mignore-start-align optionmengqinggang1-0/+2
Ignore .align at the start of a section may result in misalignment when partial linking. Manually add -mignore-start-align option without partial linking. Gcc -falign-functions add .align 5 to the start of a section, it causes some error message mismatch. Set these testcases to xfail on LoongArch target.
2024-01-04Update year range in copyright notice of binutils filesAlan Modra4-4/+4
Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then updates copyright messages as follows: 1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights. 2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite files (which should have their copyright message removed). 3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes. 4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.
2023-07-28MIPS: Support `-gnuabi64' target triplet suffix for 64-bit Linux targetsYunQiang Su1-1/+2
Make the n64 ABI the default for 64-bit Linux targets specified with `-gnuabi64' suffix included in the target triplet, for configurations such as the Debian mips64el and mips64r6el ports. Adjust testsuite configuration accordingly. There are the following regressions with the new target triplet: mips64-linux-gnuabi64 +FAIL: readelf -S bintest mips64-linux-gnuabi64 +FAIL: MIPS reloc estimation 1 mips64el-linux-gnuabi64 +FAIL: readelf -S bintest mips64el-linux-gnuabi64 +FAIL: MIPS reloc estimation 1 The `readelf' issue comes from a difference in section headers produced that the `binutils/testsuite/binutils-all/readelf.s-64' pattern template does not match. While there has been a precedent it does not appear to me that there is a clear advantage from adding more and more variations to the template rather than forking the existing template into multiple ones for a more exact match. So this is best deferred to a separate discussion. The MIPS reloc estimation issue is an actual bug in `objdump', which discards a number of trailing entries from output here for n64 composed relocations: DYNAMIC RELOCATION RECORDS OFFSET TYPE VALUE 0000000000000000 R_MIPS_NONE *ABS* 0000000000000000 R_MIPS_NONE *ABS* and consequently `ld/testsuite/ld-mips-elf/reloc-estimate-1.d' does not match even though ELF output produced is correct according to `readelf': Relocation section '.rel.dyn' at offset 0x10400 contains 2 entries: Offset Info Type Sym. 2023-07-17PR10957, Missing option to really print section+offsetAlan Modra1-1/+1
Many of the reloc error messages have already been converted from using %C to using %H in ld.bfd, to print section+offset as well as file/line/function. 2023-01-01Update year range in copyright notice of binutils filesAlan Modra4-4/+4
The newer update-copyright.py fixes file encoding too, removing cr/lf on binutils/bfdtest2.c and ld/testsuite/ld-cygwin/exe-export.exp, and embedded cr in binutils/testsuite/binutils-all/ar.exp string match.

The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit breaks building of bfp opcodes files.
2021-09-03CC_FOR_TARGET et alAlan Modra1-1/+1
The top level Makefile, the ld Makefile and others, define CC_FOR_TARGET to be a compiler for the binutils target machine. This is the compiler that should be used for almost all tests with C source. There are _FOR_TARGET versions of CFLAGS, CXX, and CXXFLAGS too. This was all supposed to work with the testsuite .exp files using CC for the target compiler, and CC_FOR_HOST for the host compiler, with the makefiles passing CC=$CC_FOR_TARGET and CC_FOR_HOST=$CC to the runtest invocation. One exception to the rule of using CC_FOR_TARGET is the native-only ld bootstrap test, which uses the newly built ld to link a copy of itself. Since the files being linked were created with the host compiler, the boostrap test should use CC and CFLAGS, in case some host compiler option provides needed libraries automatically. However, bootstrap.exp used CC where it should have used CC_FOR_HOST. I set about fixing that problem, then decided that playing games in the makefiles with CC was a bad idea. Not only is it confusing, but other dejagnu code knows about CC_FOR_TARGET. See dejagnu/target.exp. So this patch gets rid of the makefile variable renaming and changes all the .exp files to use the correct _FOR_TARGET variables. CC_FOR_HOST and CFLAGS_FOR_HOST disappear. A followup patch will correct bootstrap.exp to use CFLAGS, and a number of other things I noticed. binutils/ * testsuite/lib/binutils-common.exp (run_dump_test): Use CC_FOR_TARGET and CFLAGS_FOR_TARGET rather than CC and CFLAGS. ld/ * Makefile.am (check-DEJAGNU): Don't set CC to CC_FOR_TARGET and similar. 2021-03-09bfd: don't silently wrap or truncate PE image section RVAsJan Beulich1-2/+8
In PE images section addresses get expressed as addresses relative to the image base. Therefore the VA of a section must be no less than the image base, and after subtraction of the image base the resulting value should fit in 32 bits. (The issue is particularly obvious to notice when sections, perhaps because of ELF assumptions, get placed at VA 0 by default. Debugging info sections as well as .comment, when input files are ELF, are a good example. All such sections need proper mentioning in the linker script to avoid this warning.) There are a number of test cases which previously produced bogus images, yet still declared the test a success. Like done for other tests already, force a zero image base for these. This then also allows (and requires) dropping again xfail-s which 39a7b38fac0e ("Fix linker tests to work with 16-bit targets") had added to ld-scripts/default-script*.d (originally as skip-s). This also depends on similar adjustments to testsuite/ld-scripts/map-address.* made by an earlier patch. For ld-scripts/print-memory-usage.* I suppose xcoff could be dropped from the exclusion list by suppressing garbage collection, just like already done in e.g. (as seen in the diff here) ld-scripts/data.*, but I didn't want to make unrelated adjustments.
2021-02-14ld testsuite: change unresolved to unsupported/failAlan Modra2-57/+43
"unresolved" as a test result means runtest returns an error, which can be confusing when there is no apparent error unless you look in .log files. In particular many tests are skipped without reporting an error if no target C compiler is found, but if a target C compiler is found but won't compile a testcase for some reason we used to mark the test as unresolved. Which is no more worthy of an error than when lacking a C compiler entirely. * testsuite/ld-cdtest/cdtest.exp, * testsuite/ld-checks/checks.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/binutils.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/compress.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/dwarf.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/exclude.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/frame.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/indirect.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/linux-x86.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/sec-to-seg.exp, * testsuite/ld-elf/tls_common.exp, * testsuite/ld-elfcomm/elfcomm.exp, * testsuite/ld-elfvers/vers.exp, * testsuite/ld-elfvsb/elfvsb.exp, * testsuite/ld-elfweak/elfweak.exp, * testsuite/ld-ifunc/binutils.exp, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/mips-elf-flags.exp, * testsuite/ld-misc/defsym.exp, * testsuite/ld-mn10300/mn10300.exp, * testsuite/ld-plugin/lto.exp, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/align.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/assert.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/crossref.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/defined.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/extern.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/log2.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/map-address.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/phdrs.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/phdrs2.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/script.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/section-flags.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/sizeof.exp, * testsuite/ld-scripts/weak.exp, * testsuite/ld-selective/selective.exp, * testsuite/ld-sh/sh.exp, * testsuite/ld-shared/shared.exp, * testsuite/ld-srec/srec.exp, * testsuite/ld-tic6x/tic6x.exp, * testsuite/ld-undefined/undefined.exp, * testsuite/ld-undefined/weak-undef.exp, * testsuite/lib/ld-lib.exp: Don't use unresolved except after perror. 2019-08-07ld: use a specific linker script in BPF targetsJose E. Marchesi1-3/+11
This patch makes the elf64bpf emulation to use it's own linker script, based on elf.sc. At the moment, the only change is that the BPF executable doesn't define an entry symbol (BPF programs feature several entry points scattered in several sections.) This is a step towards the goal of generating proper ELF executables that would be loaded by the kernel's libbpf. We are not there yet: BPF "programs" should still be linked with -r. This change removes a warning while linking executables, decreases the number of unsupported tests in the target from 47 to 29, and increases the number of expected passes from 104 to 145. Regtested in x86_64 for all targets. No regressions. ld/ChangeLog: 2019-08-07 Jose E. Marchesi <jose.marchesi@oracle.com> * scripttempl/elf64bpf.sc: Adapted from elf.sc. * emulparams/elf64bpf.sh (SCRIPT_NAME): Use elf64bpf. (EMBEDDED): Define. * testsuite/ld-bpf/call-1.d: Do not expect a warning regarding an undefined entry symbol. * testsuite/ld-bpf/jump-1.d: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-undefined/undefined.exp: Do not pass '-e entry' to ld in BPF targets, and do not expect line number information. * testsuite/ld-srec/srec.exp (run_srec_test): xfail s-record tests in BPF targets.

This fixes the recently added ld-elf/pr24511 test failure on pj-elf. Incidentally, pj-elf has failed its gas "pj" test since 2005-12-22 (git commit 54758c3e39). I think that makes the target ripe for obsolescence. bfd/ * elf32-pj.c (pj_elf_reloc): Don't report undefined weak as an error. ld/ * testsuite/ld-undefined/weak-undef.exp: Don't xfail pj.
2019-04-24Use better test for usable compiler in ld testsuite.Sandra Loosemore1-1/+1
The ld testsuite includes numerous tests that depend on being able to compile and link programs with the C compiler. Some of these tests use [which $CC] to check for the presence of the compiler before proceeding with the test, but run_ld_link_exec_tests and run_cc_link_tests give ERRORs if compilation fails. Also, even if $CC is defined and present, it may not be usable due to missing libraries, etc. This patch adds a new procedure check_compiler_available that attempts to build an empty program and caches the result. Uses of [which $CC] are replaced with calls to this procedure, and run_ld_link_exec_tests and run_cc_link_tests now also guard attempts to use $CC. 2019-04-24 Sandra Loosemore <sandra@codesourcery.com> ld/ * testsuite/config/default.exp: Use [check_compiler_available] instead of [which $CC]. * testsuite/ld-auto-import/auto-import.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-cygwin/exe-export.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/audit.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/compress.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/dwarf.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/elf.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/indirect.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/linux-x86.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/shared.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/tls.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elf/wrap.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elfcomm/elfcomm.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elfvers/vers.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elfvsb/elfvsb.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-elfweak/elfweak.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-gc/gc.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-i386/i386.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-i386/no-plt.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-i386/tls.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-ifunc/ifunc.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-mn10300/mn10300.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-pe/pe-compile.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-pe/pe-run.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-pe/pe-run2.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-pie/pie.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-plugin/lto.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-scripts/crossref.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-sh/sh.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-shared/shared.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-size/size.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-srec/srec.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-undefined/undefined.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-unique/unique.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-x86-64/mpx.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-x86-64/no-plt.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-x86-64/tls.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/ld-x86-64/x86-64.exp: Likewise. * testsuite/lib/ld-lib.exp (run_ld_link_exec_tests): Call check_compiler_available before trying to use the compiler. 2018-02-26ld error/warning messagesAlan Modra1-1/+1
This patch standardizes messages in ld, to better conform to the GNU coding standard. Besides issues of capitalization and full-stops, I've - Split up help messages for target options, so that adding a new option does not mean loss of translation for all the others. - Embedded tabs have been removed, since a user might have tab stops set at other than 8 char intervals. - Added missing program name (%P). ld isn't the compiler. - Put %F and %X first (and removed %X if %F was present). These can go anywhere, but look silly in the m%Fiddle of a message, and choosing "%P%F:" in some messages but "%F%P:" in others leads to the likelihood of duplication in ld.pot. Besides, the colon belongs with %P. * emulparams/call_nop.sh, * emulparams/cet.sh, * emulparams/elf32mcore.sh, * emultempl/aarch64elf.em * emultempl/aix.em, * emultempl/alphaelf.em, * emultempl/armcoff.em, * emultempl/armelf.em, * emultempl/avrelf.em, * emultempl/beos.em, * emultempl/bfin.em, * emultempl/cr16elf.em, * emultempl/elf32.em, * emultempl/elf-generic.em, * emultempl/hppaelf.em, * emultempl/linux.em, * emultempl/lnk960.em, * emultempl/m68hc1xelf.em, * emultempl/m68kcoff.em, * emultempl/m68kelf.em, * emultempl/metagelf.em, * emultempl/mipself.em, * emultempl/mmix-elfnmmo.em, * emultempl/mmo.em, * emultempl/msp430.em, * emultempl/nds32elf.em, * emultempl/nios2elf.em, * emultempl/pe.em, * emultempl/pep.em, * emultempl/ppc32elf.em, * emultempl/ppc64elf.em, * emultempl/scoreelf.em, * emultempl/sh64elf.em, * emultempl/spuelf.em, * emultempl/sunos.em, * emultempl/tic6xdsbt.em, * emultempl/ticoff.em, * emultempl/v850elf.em, * emultempl/vms.em, * emultempl/vxworks.em, * emultempl/xtensaelf.em, * ldcref.c, * ldctor.c, * ldexp.c, * ldfile.c, * ldgram.y, * ldlang.c, * ldmain.c, * ldmisc.c, * ldwrite.c, * lexsup.c, * mri.c, * pe-dll.c, * plugin.c: Standardize error/warning messages. * testsuite/ld-arc/jli-overflow.err, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-implib-errors.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-new-earlier-later-implib.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-new-implib-not-sg-in-implib.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-new-wrong-implib.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-veneers-no-gnu_sgstubs.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/cmse-veneers-wrong-entryfct.out, * testsuite/ld-arm/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-20x.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-29.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-31.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-33.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-35.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-37.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-39.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-41.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-43.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-45.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-47.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-49.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-51.d, * testsuite/ld-cris/tls-err-67.d, * testsuite/ld-elf/dwarf2.err, * testsuite/ld-elf/dwarf3.err, * testsuite/ld-elf/orphan-5.l, * testsuite/ld-elf/orphan-6.l, * testsuite/ld-i386/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic-micromips-n32.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic-micromips-n64.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic-micromips.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic-n32.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic-n64.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/bal-jalx-pic.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/jal-global-overflow-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/jal-local-overflow-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/mode-change-error-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-2.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-ignore-2.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-ignore-micromips.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-ignore-mips16.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-ignore-r6-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-micromips.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-mips16.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-r6-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch-r6-2.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-branch.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-3.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-addend-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-addend-3.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-addend-micromips-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-addend-mips16-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-micromips-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jalx-mips16-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jump-micromips.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jump-mips16.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-jump.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-ldpc-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/unaligned-lwpc-1.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/undefined.d, * testsuite/ld-mips-elf/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-20.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-20m.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-7.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-7m.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-8.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/bpo-8m.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/greg-17.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/greg-18.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/greg-8.d, * testsuite/ld-mmix/greg-9.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-14.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-15.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-16.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-20.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-21.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-22.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-23.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-6.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-7.d, * testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-8.d, * testsuite/ld-powerpc/aix-weak-3-32.d, * testsuite/ld-powerpc/aix-weak-3-64.d, * testsuite/ld-powerpc/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-sh/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-sparc/vxworks1-static.d, * testsuite/ld-undefined/undefined.exp, * testsuite/ld-x86-64/pie1.d: Update for changed errors and warnings. * testsuite/ld-elf/warn1.d, * testsuite/ld-elf/warn2.d: Correct regex.

2017-09-26LD/testsuite: Fix undefined symbol tests for MIPS and S+core targetsMaciej W. Rozycki1-3/+23
Fix commit 647d4de92e06 ("Test undefined symbols in shared libraries") and remove "undefined symbols in shared lib (dyn reloc)" test failures for MIPS and S+core targets. This test assumes 3 dynamic relocation entries, however the respective psABIs define an extra single dummy *_NONE relocation at the beginning of the dynamic relocation table, which results in test output like the following for MIPS: Relocation section '.rel.dyn' at offset 0x33c contains 4 entries: Offset Info Type Sym.Value Sym. Name 00000000 00000000 R_MIPS_NONE 00010364 00000903 R_MIPS_REL32 00000000 undef_pfun 00010360 00000a03 R_MIPS_REL32 00000000 undef_data 00010368 00000b03 R_MIPS_REL32 00000000 undef_notype and S+core: Relocation section '.rel.dyn' at offset 0x274 contains 4 entries: Offset Info Type Sym.Value Sym. 2017-08-24Test undefined symbols in shared librariesAlan Modra2-98/+189
git commit 46434633f9 said Make undefined symbols in allocate_dynrelocs dynamic ..if they have dynamic relocs. An undefined symbol in a PIC object that finds no definition ought to become dynamic in order to support --allow-shlib-undefined, but there is nothing in the generic ELF linker code to do this if the reference isn't via the GOT or PLT. (An initialized function pointer is an example.) So it falls to backend code to ensure the symbol is made dynamic. The above isn't true. Undefined symbols are indeed made dynamic for shared libraries. Undefined symbols are not automatically made dynamic in executables, and it was the PIE case that triggered an internal consistency assertion on powerpc64. I guess I could have jumped the other way when fixing PR21988, and not created a dynamic reloc. Either way, it doesn't matter a great deal. We're going to get an error on strong undefined symbols in an executable anyway, and broken binaries if you try to use --unresolved-symbols=ignore-all to disable the error. * testsuite/ld-undefined/fundef.s: New test. * testsuite/ld-undefined/undefined.exp: Test that undefined symbols in shared libraries are made dynamic.
2017-04-19Implement -z dynamic-undefined-weakAlan Modra1-28/+75
-z nodynamic-undefined-weak is only implemented for x86. (The sparc backend has some support code but doesn't enable the option by including ld/emulparams/dynamic_undefined_weak.sh, and since the support looks like it may be broken I haven't enabled it.) This patch adds the complementary -z dynamic-undefined-weak, extends both options to affect building of shared libraries as well as executables, and adds support for the option on powerpc. include/ * bfdlink.h (struct bfd_link_info <dynamic_undefined_weak>): Revise comment. bfd/ * elflink.c (_bfd_elf_adjust_dynamic_symbol): Hide undefweak or make dynamic for info->dynamic_undefined_weak 0 and 1. * elf32-ppc.c:Formatting. 2017-01-02Run more ld tests when not nativeAlan Modra1-3/+3
Many of the ld tests are not run for cross builds, in some cases because the test needs to run a newly linked executable, and in others simply because it was easier to write the test for native only. Even when a test needs to run, it's good to compile and link to exercise the linker. So that's what this patch does. I've also rid us of the old ld_link procedure with all the HOSTING_CRT0 etc. setup. It's much simpler to just link with $CC. This does mean that a cross build with cross-compiler installed but no cross C-library will give lots of failures. If that turns out to be too annoying, I guess we can write a tcl procedure to detect it and not run all the extra tests. * Makefile.am (bootstrap): Delete rule. 2015-08-04ld: Add '--require-defined' command line option.Andrew Burgess7-0/+105
Add a new command line option '--require-defined' to the linker. This option operates identically to the '--undefined' option, except that if the symbol is not defined in the final output file then the linker will exit with an error. When making use of --gc-section, or just when trying to pull in parts of a library, it is not uncommon for a user to use the '--undefined' command line option to specify a symbol that the user then expects to be defined by one of the object files supplied to the link. However, if for any reason the symbol is not satisfied by an object provided to the link the user will be left with an undefined symbol in the output file, instead of a defined symbol. In some cases the above behaviour is what the user wants, in other cases though we can do better. The '--require-defined' option tries to fill this gap. The symbol passed to the '--require-defined' option is treated exactly as if the symbol was passed to '--undefined', however, before the linker exits a check is made that all symbols passed to '--require-defined' are actually defined, if any are not then the link will fail with an error. ld/ChangeLog: * ld.texinfo (Options): Document --require-defined option. * ldlang.c (struct require_defined_symbol): New structure.
