This commit is the result of the following actions:
- Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
include 2024,
- Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
file,
- Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
date,
- Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If
these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
updated them this year to 2024.
I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

Handle $srcdir/lib/unbuffer_output.c using lappend_include_file.
Tested on x86_64-linux.
|
|
This changes many tests to use 'require' when checking target_info.
In a few spots, the require is hoisted to the top of the file, to
avoid doing any extra work when the test is going to be skipped
anyway.
|
|
A number of tests end with "return". However, this is unnecessary.
This patch removes all of these.
|

This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

I noticed that when running these two tests in sequence:
Running /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/testsuite/gdb.ada/arrayptr.exp ...
ERROR: GDB process no longer exists
ERROR: Couldn't run foo-all
Running /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/testsuite/gdb.ada/assign_1.exp ...
The results in gdb.sum are:
Running /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/testsuite/gdb.ada/arrayptr.exp ...
PASS: gdb.ada/arrayptr.exp: scenario=all: compilation foo.adb
ERROR: GDB process no longer exists
UNRESOLVED: gdb.ada/arrayptr.exp: scenario=all: gdb_breakpoint: set breakpoint at foo.adb:40 (eof)
ERROR: Couldn't run foo-all
Running /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/testsuite/gdb.ada/assign_1.exp ...
UNRESOLVED: gdb.ada/assign_1.exp: changing the language to ada
PASS: gdb.ada/assign_1.exp: set convenience variable $xxx to 1
The UNRESOLVED for arrayptr.exp is fine, as GDB crashes in that test,
while trying to run to main. However, the UNRESOLVED in assign_1.exp
doesn't make sense, GDB behaves as expected in that test:
(gdb) set lang ada^M
(gdb) UNRESOLVED: gdb.ada/assign_1.exp: changing the language to ada
print $xxx := 1^M
$1 = 1^M
(gdb) PASS: gdb.ada/assign_1.exp: set convenience variable $xxx to 1
The problem is that arrayptr.exp calls perror when failing to run to
main, then returns. perror makes it so that the next test (as in
pass/fail) will be recorded as UNRESOLVED. However, here, the next test
(as in pass/fail) is in the next test (as in .exp). Hence the spurious
UNRESOLVED in assign_1.exp.
These perror when failing to run to X are not really useful, especially
since runto records a FAIL on error, by default. Remove all the
perrors on runto failure I could find.
When there wasn't one already, add a return statement when failing to
run, to avoid running the test of the test unnecessarily.
I thought of adding a check ran between test (in gdb_finish
probably) where we would emit a warning if errcnt > 0, meaning a test
quit and left a perror "active". However, reading that variable would
poke into the DejaGNU internals, not sure it's a good idea.

The canonical form of 'if' in modern TCL is 'if {} {}'. But there's
still a bunch of places in the testsuite where we make use of the
'then' keyword, and sometimes these get copies into new tests, which
just spreads poor practice.
This commit removes all use of the 'then' keyword from the gdb.base/
test script directory.
There should be no changes in what is tested after this commit.
|
|
Remove test-cases from test-names, such that we don't have the redundant:
...
PASS: gdb.base/corefile.exp: backtrace in corefile.exp
...
but simply:
...
PASS: gdb.base/corefile.exp: backtrace
...
Fixed all instances found using:
...
$ grep ":.*:.*\.exp" gdb.sum
...
Tested on x86_64-linux.
|
|
Many test cases had a few lines in the beginning that look like:
if { condition } {
continue
}
Where conditions varied, but were mostly in the form of ![runto_main] or
[skip_*_tests], making it quite clear that this code block was supposed
to finish the test if it entered the code block. This generates TCL
errors, as most of these tests are not inside loops. All cases on which
this was an obvious mistake are changed in this patch.

This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.

I noticed more occurrences of improper test names. The rather mechanical,
tedious and large patch below addresses, hopefully, most of the leftover cases.
As usual, another pair of eyes is welcome to check if missed something or did
an invalid substitution.
This patch also fixes the prepare_for_testing calls to pass proper test names.

This patch removes all special cases for HP-UX, for which support has
been removed earlier, that I found in the testsuite. Note that the hppa
architecture != HP-UX, since other OSes can run on hppa, so I tried to
leave everything that is not HP-UX specific.
Two complete tests were completely HP-UX specific, so I removed them.
I ran the testsuite on Linux x86-64, native and native-gdbserver, and
noticed no regressions.

The following patch will remove the gdb, noinferiorio setting from the
gdbserver boards, so this bit can be reverted.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
2015-07-29 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Revert back to checking gdb,noinferiorio
at the top.
|
|
Currently, against gdbserver, interrupt.exp occasionaly fails like
this:
ERROR: Process no longer exists
UNRESOLVED: gdb.base/interrupt.exp: send end of file
The problem is that we see gdbserver exiting before we match gdb's
output:
expect: does "\r\n\r\nChild exited with status 0\r\nGDBserver exiting\r\n" (spawn_id exp8) match regular expression "end of file"? Gate "end of file"? gate=no
expect: read eof
expect: set expect_out(spawn_id) "exp8"
expect: set expect_out(buffer) "\r\n\r\nChild exited with status 0\r\nGDBserver exiting\r\n"
Fix this by removing $inferior_spawn_id from the set of spawn ids
expect is watching as soon as we see the "end of file" string out of
the inferior spawn id, using an indirect spawn id list.
Tested on x86-64 Fedora 20, native and gdbserver (both target remote
and extended-remote).
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
2015-04-23 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Use an indirect spawn id list holding
$inferior_spawn_id instead of $inferior_spawn_id directly. On
"end of file", remove $inferior_spawn_id from the indirect list.
|
|
To avoid confusion between "end of file" string matching and eof
matching, as in process exit.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
2015-04-23 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Rename saw_eof to saw_end_of_file.
|
|
The gdb.base/interrupt.exp test is important for testing system call
restarting, but because it depends on inferior I/O, it ends up skipped
against gdbserver. This patch adjusts the test to use send_inferior
and $inferior_spawn_id so it works against GDBserver.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
2015-04-07 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Don't skip if $inferior_spawn_id !=
$gdb_spawn_id. Use send_inferior and $inferior_spawn_id to
interact with inferior program.
|
|
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
2015-04-07 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Use gdb_test_multiple instead of
gdb_expect.
|
|
Working on splitting gdb and inferior output handling in this test, I
noticed a race that happens to be masked out today.
The test sends "a\n" to the inferior, and then inferior echoes back
"a\n".
If expect manages to read only the first "a\r\n" into its buffer, then
this matches:
-re "^a\r\n(|a\r\n)$" {
and leaves the second "a\r\n" in output.
Then the next test that processes inferior I/O sends "data\n", and expects:
-re "^(\r\n|)data\r\n(|data\r\n)$"
which fails given the anchor and given "a\r\n" is still in the buffer.
This is masked today because the test relies on inferior I/O being
done on GDB's terminal, and there are tested GDB commands in between,
which consume the "a\r\n" that was left in the output.
We don't support SunOS4 anymore, so just remove the workaround.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog
2015-04-07 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com>
* gdb.base/interrupt.exp: Don't handle the case of the inferior
output appearing once only.

This does most of the mechanical removal. IOW, the easy part.
This doesn't touch procfs.c as that'd be a harder excision,
potentially affecting Solaris.
mips-tdep.c is left alone. E.g., I didn't delete the GDB_OSABI_IRIX
enum value, nor references to it in mips-tdep.c. Some comments
mentioning IRIX ABIs may still be relevant and I wouldn't know what to
do with them. in That can always be done on a separate pass,
preferably by someone who can test on MIPS.
I didn't remove a reference to IRIX in testsuite/lib/future.exp, as I
believe that code is imported from DejaGNU.
Built and tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, with --enable-targets=all.
Tested that building for --target=mips-sgi-irix6 on x86_64 Fedora 20
