This commit is the result of the following actions:
- Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
include 2024,
- Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
file,
- Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
date,
- Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If
these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
updated them this year to 2024.
I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

A few tests work on two different targets that can't be detected with
a single call to istarget -- that proc only accepts globs, not regular
expressions.
This patch introduces a new is_any_target proc and then converts these
tests to use it in a 'require'.
|
|
This changes many tests to use require when checking 'istarget'. A
few of these conversions were already done in earlier patches.
No change was needed to 'require' to make this work, due to the way it
is written. I think the result looks pretty clear, and it has the
bonus of helping to ensure that the reason that a test is skipped is
always logged.
|
|
This changes skip_python_tests to invert the sense, and renames it to
allow_python_tests.
|
|
This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

Since commit c4a3dbaf113 ("Expose current 'print' settings to Python") we
have:
...
(gdb) print /x $bnd0 = {0x10, 0x20}^M
$22 = {lbound = 0x10, ubound = 0x20} : size 0x11^M
(gdb) FAIL: gdb.arch/i386-mpx.exp: verify size for bnd0
...
The regexp in the test-case expects "size 17".
Fix this by updating the regexp.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

|
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

When running test-case gdb.arch/i386-mpx.exp with target board
native-gdbserver, I run into:
...
(gdb) PASS: gdb.arch/i386-mpx.exp: verify size for bnd0
Remote debugging from host ::1, port 42328^M
quit^M
A debugging session is active.^M

A debugging session is active.^M
^M
Inferior 1 [process 19679] will be killed.^M
^M
Quit anyway? (y or n) WARNING: Timed out waiting for EOF in server after monitor exit
...
The problem is that the test-case sends a quit at the end (without verifying
the result of this in any way):
...
send_gdb "quit\n"
...
Fix this by removing the quit.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

As follow-up to this discussion:
https://sourceware.org/pipermail/gdb-patches/2020-August/171385.html
... make runto_main not pass no-message to runto. This means that if we
fail to run to main, for some reason, we'll emit a FAIL. This is the
behavior we want the majority of (if not all) the time.
Without this, we rely on tests logging a failure if runto_main fails,
otherwise. They do so in a very inconsisteny mannet, sometimes using
"fail", "unsupported" or "untested". The messages also vary widly.
This patch removes all these messages as well.
Also, remove a few "fail" where we call runto (and not runto_main). by
default (without an explicit no-message argument), runto prints a
failure already. In two places, gdb.multi/multi-re-run.exp and
gdb.python/py-pp-registration.exp, remove "message" passed to runto.
This removes a few PASSes that we don't care about (but FAILs will still
be printed if we fail to run to where we want to). This aligns their
behavior with the rest of the testsuite.

The sources for the test-cases gdb.arch/i386-mpx*.exp contain have_mpx
functions that test whether the processor supports mpx instructions.
OTOH, the test-cases are compiled using -mmpx -fcheck-pointer-bounds, which
instrument all functions with mpx instructions.
So, the function that is supposed to test whether mpx instruction are
supported contains mpx instructions, which is a bit odd.
We could fix this by:
- factoring out the have_mpx function into a single source file, and
- compiling it without "-mmpx -fcheck-pointer-bounds".
But having the mpx support test as part of the test-cases seems like an
unnecessary complication that makes the test-cases more difficult to analyze,
reason about and modify.
So we go one step further and factor out the mpx support test in into a
gdb_caching_proc.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

This commits the result of running gdb/copyright.py as per our Start

gdb/ChangeLog
Update copyright year range in copyright header of all GDB files.

When running test-case gdb.arch/i386-mpx.exp with gcc-10, we get:
...
Running src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.arch/i386-mpx.exp ...
gdb compile failed, xgcc: warning: switch '-mmpx' is no longer supported
xgcc: warning: switch '-fcheck-pointer-bounds' is no longer supported
...
The test-case uses a combination of options, -mmpx and -fcheck-pointer-bounds.
The -fcheck-pointer-bounds option requires the -mmpx option:
...
$ gcc -fcheck-pointer-bounds ~/hello.c
hello.c:1:0: warning: Pointer Checker requires MPX support on this target. \
Use -mmpx options to enable MPX.
#include <stdio.h>
cc1: error: ‘-fcheck-pointer-bounds’ is not supported for this target
...
Both options is no longer supported in gcc-9.
Fix the warnings by testing if the option combination is supported.
Tested on x86_64-linux, with gcc-7.5.0 and gcc-10.0.1.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files

This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.

I noticed more occurrences of improper test names. The rather mechanical,
tedious and large patch below addresses, hopefully, most of the leftover cases.
As usual, another pair of eyes is welcome to check if missed something or did
an invalid substitution.
This patch also fixes the prepare_for_testing calls to pass proper test names.
