2020-04-27x86: Add i386 PE big-object supportTamar Christina1-2/+2
The 64-bit version of binutils got support for the PE COFF BIG OBJ format a couple of years ago. The BIG OBJ format is a slightly different COFF format which extends the size of the number of section field in the header from a uint16_t to a uint32_t and so greatly increases the number of sections allowed. However the 32-bit version of bfd never got support for this. The GHC Haskell compiler generates a great deal of symbols due to it's use of -ffunction-sections and -fdata-sections. This meant that we could not build the 32-bit version of the GHC Compiler for many releases now as binutils didn't have this support. 2019-11-07Remove CR16C supportAlan Modra1-5/+1
I think it is past time to remove CR16C support. CR16C was added in 2004, and only for ld. gas and binutils support is lacking, and there have been no commits to bfd/elf32-cr16c.c other than warning fixes or global maintainers making changes to all targets. I see no maintainer listed for CR16C, and no commits from anyone at NSC supporting the target. Furthermore, at the time the CR16 support was added in 2007, config.sub was changed upstream to no longer recognise cr16c as a valid cpu. That means the CR16C ld support is only available as a secondary target by configuring with, for example, --enable-targets=all or --enable-targets=cr16c-unknown-elf. 2019-06-28Plugin target handlingAlan Modra1-5/+0
This patch fixes failures with LTO on mingw32 targets. Since git commit 7cf7fcc83c all possible targets (minus binary) are matched in bfd_check_format_matches rather than lower priority targets being excluded once a higher priority target matches. During linking that results in the ld/plugin.c plugin_object_p function being called with the input file xvec set to plugin_vec, which means plugin_get_ir_dummy_bfd doesn't see the real format of the file (pe-i386). It defaults to the output format instead, which happens to be pei-i386, and this wrong choice persists for the dummy bfd. pei-i386 isn't recognised as a valid linker input file. So, omit recognizing a plugin object in bfd_check_format_matches when some other object format matches, and make sure those other object formats are checked first. * format.c (bfd_check_format_matches): Don't match plugin target if another target matches. Expand comment. * targets.c (_bfd_target_vector): Move plugin_vec after all other non-corefile targets, outside !SELECT_VECS. * config.bfd: Don't handle targ=plugin here. * configure.ac: Don't add plugin to enable_targets or handle in target loop setting selvecs and other target vars. * configure: Regenerate.

See also the FIXME. tic30-aout linker support is so bad (and has been that way since the initial tic30-aout commit) that I'm obsoleting the target. This patch fixes numerous linker testsuite segmentation faults. Remove duplicate `rs6000-*-aix5.[01]' and `rs6000-*-aix[5-9]*' target configuration selectors meant to correspond to `powerpc64-*-aix5.[01]' and `powerpc64-*-aix[5-9]*' respectively for the purpose of BFD target vector selection in `config.bfd'. These selectors were added with commit 9a9e2ca33263 ("rs6000 xcoff bfd config"), <https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2010-12/msg00372.html>, and have been dead right from the beginning, because they appear twice each in the case statement, which means the earlier instance of each takes precedence and the other one is ignored. This patch series is a new binutils port for C-SKY processors, including support for both the V1 and V2 processor variants. V1 is derived from the MCore architecture while V2 is substantially different, with mixed 16- and 32-bit instructions, a larger register set, a different (but overlapping) ABI, etc. There is support for bare-metal ELF targets and Linux with both glibc and uClibc. This code is being contributed jointly by C-SKY Microsystems and Mentor Graphics. C-SKY is responsible for the technical content and has proposed Lifang Xia and Yunhai Shang as port maintainers. (Note that C-SKY does have a corporate copyright assignment on file with the FSF.) Enabling shared lib tests showed the powerpc-lynxos target is broken, and has been for a long time. The breakage happened in a 2005-05-07 patch of mine, git commit 3b36f7e62, I think. There have been no bug reports I recall so it seems the target is dead. powerpc-windiss is similarly broken.
