2024-07-30libstdc++: Fix overwriting files with fs::copy_file on WindowsJonathan Wakely2-5/+25
There are no inode numbers on Windows filesystems, so stat_type::st_ino is always zero and the check for equivalent files in do_copy_file was incorrectly identifying distinct files as equivalent. This caused copy_file to incorrectly report errors when trying to overwrite existing files. The fs::equivalent function already does the right thing on Windows, so factor that logic out into a new function that can be reused by fs::copy_file. The tests for fs::copy_file were quite inadequate, so this also adds checks for that function's error conditions. libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog: * src/c++17/fs_ops.cc (auto_win_file_handle): Change constructor parameter from const path& to const wchar_t*. 2024-02-04libstdc++: Fix libstdc++exp.a so it really does contain Filesystem TS symbolsJonathan Wakely2-6/+35
In r14-3812-gb96b554592c5cb I claimed that libstdc++exp.a now contains all the symbols from libstdc++fs.a as well as libstdc++_libbacktrace.a, but that wasn't true. Only the symbols from the latter were added to libstdc++exp.a, the Filesystem TS ones weren't. This seems to be because libtool won't combine static libs that are going to be installed separately. Because libstdc++fs.a is still installed, libtool decides it shouldn't be included in libstdc++exp.a. The solution is similar to what we already do for libsupc++.a: build two static libs, libstdc++fs.a and libstdc++fsconvenience.a, where the former is installed and the latter isn't. Although the copy_file_range(2) man page shows the arguments as off64_t* that is not portable. For musl there is no off64_t type, as off_t is always 64-bit. Use the loff_t type which is always 64-bit even if off_t isn't. The size reported by stat is always zero for some special files such as those under /proc, which means the current copy_file implementation thinks there is nothing to copy. Because avr-libc <errno.h> defines most error numbers with duplicate values it's not sufficient to check #ifdef ENOTSUP when deciding which std::errc constant to use for the filesystem library's __unsupported() helper. 2023-02-01libstdc++: Fix build failures for avrJonathan Wakely1-1/+1
The abr-libc <errno.h> does not define EOVERFLOW, which means that std::errc::value_too_large is not defined, and so <charconv> cannot be compiled. Define value_too_large for avr with a value that does not clash with any that is defined in <errno.h>. This is a kluge to fix bootstrap for avr; it can be removed after PR libstdc++/104883 is resolved. The avr-libc <errno.h> fails to meet the C and POSIX requirements that each error macro has a distinct integral value, and is usable in #if directives. Add a special case for avr to system_error.cc so that only the valid errors are recognized. Also disable the errno checks in std::filesystem::remove_all that assume a meaningful value for errno. On avr-libc <unistd.h> exists but does not define the POSIX functions needed by std::filesystem, so _GLIBCXX_HAVE_UNISTD_H is not sufficient to check for basic POSIX APIs. Check !defined __AVR__ as well as _GLIBCXX_HAVE_UNISTD_H before using those functions. 2022-10-11libstdc++: Allow emergency EH alloc pool size to be tuned [PR68606]Jonathan Wakely1-0/+1
Implement a long-standing request to support tuning the size of the emergency buffer for allocating exceptions after malloc fails, or to disable that buffer entirely. It's now possible to disable the dynamic allocation of the buffer and use a fixed-size static buffer, via --enable-libstdcxx-static-eh-pool. This is a built-time choice that is baked into libstdc++ and so affects all code linked against that build of libstdc++. The size of the pool can be set by --with-libstdcxx-eh-pool-obj-count=N which is measured in units of sizeof(void*) not bytes. A given exception type such as std::system_error depends on the target, so giving a size in bytes wouldn't be portable across 16/32/64-bit targets. When libstdc++ is configured to use a dynamic buffer, the size of that buffer can now be tuned at runtime by setting the GLIBCXX_TUNABLES environment variable (c.f. PR libstdc++/88264). The number of exceptions to reserve space for is controlled by the "glibcxx.eh_pool.obj_count" and "glibcxx.eh_pool.obj_size" tunables. The pool will be sized to be able to allocate obj_count exceptions of size obj_size*sizeof(void*) and obj_count "dependent" exceptions rethrown by std::rethrow_exception. With the ability to tune the buffer size, we can reduce the default pool size on 32-bit and 16-bit targets. Most users never need to throw 1kB exceptions in parallel from hundreds of threads after malloc is OOM. The users who do need that can use the tunables to select larger sizes. Currently the throwing overload of fs::temp_directory_path() will discard the path that was obtained from the environment. Although the Filesystem TS isn't properly supported on Windows (unlike the C++17 Filesystem lib), most tests do pass. Two of the failures are due to PR 88881 which was only fixed for std::filesystem not the TS. Currently the _Dir::open_subdir function decides whether to construct a _Dir_base with just a pathname, or a file descriptor and pathname. But that means it is tiughtly coupled to the implementation of _Dir_base::openat, which is what actually decides whether to use a file descriptor or not. If the derived class passes a file descriptor and filename, but the base class expects a full path and ignores the file descriptor, then recursive_directory_iterator cannot recurse. This change introduces a new type that provides the union of all the information available to the derived class (the full pathname, as well as a file descriptor for a directory and another pathname relative to that directory). 2022-02-08libstdc++: Fix filesystem::remove_all for Windows [PR104161]Jonathan Wakely1-0/+1
The recursive_directory_iterator::__erase member was failing for Windows, because the entry._M_type value is always file_type::none (because _Dir_base::advance doesn't populate it for Windows) and top.unlink uses fs::remove which sets an error using the system_category. That meant that ec.value() was a Windows error code and not an errno value, so the comparisons to EPERM and EISDIR failed. Instead of depending on a specific Windows error code for attempting to remove a directory, just use directory_entry::refresh() to query the type first. This doesn't avoid the TOCTTOU races with directory symlinks, but we can't avoid them on Windows without openat and unlinkat, and creating symlinks requires admin privs on Windows anyway. 2022-02-04libstdc++: Fix filesystem::remove_all races [PR104161]Jonathan Wakely3-104/+149
This fixes the remaining filesystem::remove_all race condition by using POSIX openat to recurse into sub-directories and using POSIX unlinkat to remove files. This avoids the remaining race where the directory being removed is replaced with a symlink after the directory has been opened, so that the filesystem::remove("subdir/file") resolves to "target/file" instead, because "subdir" has been removed and replaced with a symlink. The previous patch only fixed the case where the directory was replaced with a symlink before we tried to open it, but it still used the full (potentially compromised) path as an argument to filesystem::remove. The first part of the fix is to use openat when recursing into a sub-directory with recursive_directory_iterator. This means that opening "dir/subdir" uses the file descriptor for "dir", and so is sure to open "dir/subdir" and not "symlink/subdir". (The previous patch to use O_NOFOLLOW already ensured we won't open "dir/symlink/" here.) The second part of the fix is to use unlinkat for the remove_all operation. Previously we used a directory_iterator to get the name of each file in a directory and then used filesystem::remove(iter->path()) on that name. This meant that any checks (e.g. O_NOFOLLOW) done by the iterator could be invalidated before the remove operation on that pathname. The directory iterator contains an open DIR stream, which we can use to obtain a file descriptor to pass to unlinkat. This ensures that the file being deleted really is contained within the directory we're iterating over, rather than using a pathname that could resolve to some other file. The filesystem::remove_all function previously used a (non-recursive) filesystem::directory_iterator for each directory, and called itself recursively for sub-directories. The new implementation uses a single filesystem::recursive_directory_iterator object, and calls a new __erase member function on that iterator. That new __erase member function does the actual work of removing a file (or a directory after its contents have been iterated over and removed) using unlinkat. That means we don't need to expose the DIR stream or its file descriptor to the remove_all function, it's still encapuslated by the iterator class. It would be possible to add a __rewind member to directory iterators too, to call rewinddir after each modification to the directory. That would make it more likely for filesystem::remove_all to successfully remove everything even if files are being written to the directory tree while removing it. It's unclear if that is actually prefereable, or if it's better to fail and report an error at the first opportunity. The necessary APIs (openat, unlinkat, fdopendir, dirfd) are defined in POSIX.1-2008, and in Glibc since 2.10. But if the target doesn't provide them, the original code (with race conditions) is still used. This also reduces the number of small memory allocations needed for std::filesystem::remove_all, because we do not store the full path to every directory entry that is iterated over. The new filename_only option means we only store the filename in the directory entry, as that is all we need in order to use openat or unlinkat. 2022-01-10libstdc++: Fix and simplify freestanding configuration [PR103866]Jonathan Wakely1-0/+1
This fixes the --disable-hosted-libstdcxx build so that it works with --without-headers. Currently you need to also use --with-newlib, which is confusing for users who aren't actually using newlib. The AM_PROG_LIBTOOL checks are currently skipped for --with-newlib and --with-avrlibc builds, with this change they are also skipped when using --without-headers. It would be nice if using --disable-hosted-libstdcxx automatically skipped those checks, but GLIBCXX_ENABLE_HOSTED comes too late to make the AM_PROG_LIBTOOL checks depend on $is_hosted. The checks for EOF, SEEK_CUR etc. cause the build to fail if there is no <stdio.h> available. Unlike most headers, which get a HAVE_FOO_H macro, <stdio.h> is in autoconf's default includes, so every check tries to include it unconditionally. This change skips those checks for freestanding builds. Similarly, the checks for <stdint.h> types done by GCC_HEADER_STDINT try to include <stdio.h> and fail for --without-headers builds. This change skips the use of GCC_HEADER_STDINT for freestanding. We can probably stop using GCC_HEADER_STDINT entirely, since only one file uses the gstdint.h header that is generated, and that could easily be changed to use <stdint.h> instead. That can wait for stage 1. We also need to skip the GLIBCXX_CROSSCONFIG stage if --without-headers was used, since we don't have any of the functions it deals with. The end result of the changes above is that it should not be necessary for a --disable-hosted-libstdcxx --without-headers build to also use --with-newlib. When using COW strings, accessing _M_pathname[0] and similar non-const accessors can cause the string to "leak", meaning it reallocates itself if it shares ownership with another string object. This causes test failures for --enable-fully-dynamic-string builds: /home/jwakely/src/gcc/libstdc++-v3/testsuite/experimental/filesystem/path/construct/90634.cc:62: void test01(): Assertion 'bytes_allocated == 0' failed. FAIL: experimental/filesystem/path/construct/90634.cc execution test This FAIL happens because the fully-dynamic move constructor results in shared ownership, so for path(std::move(std::string("foo"))) the _M_pathname member shares ownership with the temporary, and the non-const accesses in _M_split_cmpts() cause a new copy of the string to be allocated. This un-sharing is wasteful, and entirely unnecessary when sharing ownership with an rvalue that is about to release its ownership anyway. Even for lvalues, sharing ownership is not a problem and reallocating a unique copy of the string is wasteful. The errc::not_supported constant is only defined if ENOTSUP is defined, which is not true for all targets. Many uses of errc::not_supported in the filesystem library do not actually match the intended meaning of ENOTSUP described by POSIX. They should be using ENOSYS instead (i.e. errc::function_not_supported). This change ensures that appropriate error codes are used by the filesystem library. The remaining uses of errc::not_supported are replaced with a call to a new helper function so that an alternative value will be used on targets that don't support errc::not_supported. This adds a helper function to encapsulate obtaining an error code for errors from OS calls. For Windows we want to use GetLastError() and the system error category, but otherwise just use errno and the generic error category. This should not be used to replace existing uses of ec.assign(errno, generic_category()) because in those cases we really do want to get the value of errno, not a system-specific error. Only the cases that currently use GetLastError() are replace by this new function. 2021-08-19libstdc++: Improve overflow check for file timestampsJonathan Wakely1-1/+1
The current code assumes that system_clock::duration is nanoseconds, and also performs a value-changing conversion from nanoseconds::max() to double (which doesn't matter after dividing by 1e9, but triggers a warning with Clang nonetheless). A better solution is to use system_clock::duration::max() and perform the comparison entirely using the std::chrono types, rather than with dimensionless arithmetic types. This doesn't address the FIXME in the function, so the overflow check still rejects some values that could be represented by the file_clock. That comment proposed to move std::swap to <utility> and then require <algorithm> to include <utility>. The comment was rejected, so we do not need to implement the suggestion. For backwards compatibility with C++03 we do want <algorithm> to define std::swap, but it does so anyway via <bits/move.h>. We don't need the whole of <utility> to do that. A few other headers that need std::swap can include <bits/move.h> to get it, instead of <utility>. There are several headers that include <utility> to get std::pair, but they can use <bits/stl_pair.h> to get it without also including the rel_ops namespace and other contents of <utility>. When filesystem__create_directories checks to see if the path already exists and resovles to a directory, it uses filesystem::symlink_status, which means it reports an error if the path is a symlink. It should use filesystem::status, so that the target directory is detected, and no error is reported.
