2024-07-25rtl-ssa: Define INCLUDE_ARRAYRichard Sandiford1-0/+1
g:72fbd3b2b2a497dbbe6599239bd61c5624203ed0 added a use of std::array without explicitly forcing <array> to be included. That didn't cause problems in my local builds but understandably did for some people. gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi: Document the need to define INCLUDE_ARRAY before including rtl-ssa.h. * rtl-ssa.h: Likewise (in comment). * config/aarch64/aarch64-cc-fusion.cc: Add INCLUDE_ARRAY. * config/aarch64/aarch64-early-ra.cc: Likewise. * config/riscv/riscv-avlprop.cc: Likewise. * config/riscv/riscv-vsetvl.cc: Likewise. * fwprop.cc: Likewise. * late-combine.cc: Likewise. * pair-fusion.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/accesses.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/blocks.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/changes.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/functions.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/insns.cc: Likewise. * rtl-ssa/movement.cc: Likewise.

2024-06-25Replace {FLOAT,{,LONG_}DOUBLE}_TYPE_SIZE with new hook mode_for_floating_typeKewen Lin1-1/+1
Currently how we determine which mode will be used for a floating point type is that for a given type precision (size) call mode_for_size to get the first mode which has this size in the specified class. On Powerpc, we have three modes (TF/KF/IF) having the same mode precision 128 (see[1]), so the processing forces us to have to place TF at the first place, it would require us to make more adjustment in some generic code to avoid some unexpected mode conversions and it would be even worse if we get rid of TF eventually one day. And as Joseph pointed out in [2], "floating types should have their mode, not a poorly defined precision value", as Joseph and Richi suggested, this patch is to introduce one hook mode_for_floating_type which returns the corresponding mode for type float, double or long double. The default implementation returns SFmode for float and DFmode for double or long double. For ports which need special treatment, there are some other patches for their own port specific implementation (referring to how {,LONG_}DOUBLE_TYPE_SIZE get used there). For all generic uses of {FLOAT,{,LONG_}DOUBLE}_TYPE_SIZE, depending on the context, some of them are replaced with TYPE_PRECISION of the according type node, some other are replaced with GET_MODE_PRECISION on the mode from mode_for_floating_type. This patch also poisons {FLOAT,{,LONG_}DOUBLE}_TYPE_SIZE, so most defines of {FLOAT,{,LONG_}DOUBLE}_TYPE_SIZE in port specific are removed, but there are still some which are good to be kept for readability then they get renamed with port specific prefix. 2024-06-24rtl-ssa: Rework _ignoring interfacesRichard Sandiford1-7/+7
rtl-ssa has routines for scanning forwards or backwards for something under the control of an exclusion set. These searches are currently used for two main things: - to work out where an instruction can be moved within its EBB - to work out whether recog can add a new hard register clobber The exclusion set was originally a callback function that returned true for insns that should be ignored. However, for the late-combine work, I'd also like to be able to skip an entire definition, along with all its uses. This patch prepares for that by turning the exclusion set into an object that provides predicate member functions. Currently the only two member functions are: - should_ignore_insn: what the old callback did - should_ignore_def: the new functionality but more could be added later. Doing this also makes it easy to remove some asymmetry that I think in hindsight was a mistake: in forward scans, ignoring an insn meant ignoring all definitions in that insn (ok) and all uses of those definitions (non-obvious). The new interface makes it possible to select the required behaviour, with that behaviour being applied consistently in both directions. Now that the exclusion set is a dedicated object, rather than just a "random" function, I think it makes sense to remove the _ignoring suffix from the function names. The suffix was originally there to describe the callback, and in particular to emphasise that a true return meant "ignore" rather than "heed". gcc/ * rtl-ssa.h: Include predicates.h. * rtl-ssa/predicates.h: New file. * rtl-ssa/access-utils.h (prev_call_clobbers_ignoring): Rename to... This patch fixes up the code examples in the RTL-SSA documentation (the sections on making insn changes) to reflect the current API. The main issues are as follows: - rtl_ssa::recog takes an obstack_watermark & as the first parameter. Presumably this is intended to be the change attempt, so I've updated the examples to pass this through. - The variants of recog and restrict_movement that take an ignore predicate have been renamed with an _ignoring suffix, so I've updated callers to use those names. - A couple of minor "obvious" fixes to add a missing address-of operator and correct a variable name. gcc/ChangeLog: * doc/rtl.texi: Fix up sample code for RTL-SSA insn changes.

2023-02-23**/*.texi: Reorder index entriesArsen Arsenović1-4/+4
This change is a generalization of r13-6292-gddf6fe375d9110. Historically, makeinfo exhibited a bug, due to which a structure like: @item foo @cindex foo @cindex bar ... would be transformed into an item heading, with the first index entry on it, followed by an item body, with the second index entry in it. This has often lead to index entries not linking to relevant items, but rather, just below them. This bug was exhibited in both Info and HTML documentation, and was most glaringly obvious in the latter. After a discussion with the Texinfo developers, it was decided that the appropriate construct for this case is: @cindex foo @cindex bar @item foo ... which behaves correctly in newer versions, linking all the index entries to the item itself. This pattern also produces copiable anchors in HTML output. This commit fixes most indices to follow the pattern above, however, omits relevant changes in the Ada manuals, as the algorithm described below lead to many false positives and unwanted changes in that manual. Much like the previous commit, this change is mostly mechanical, with a simple script. I have, however, gone over the patch myself also, to see if there's anything that ought to be kept as-is. 2021-10-07Introduce smul_highpart and umul_highpart RTX for high-part multiplicationsRoger Sayle1-0/+12
This patch introduces new RTX codes to allow the RTL passes and backends to consistently represent high-part multiplications. Currently, the RTL used by different backends for expanding smul<mode>3_highpart and umul<mode>3_highpart varies greatly, with many but not all choosing to express this something like: (define_insn "smuldi3_highpart" [(set (match_operand:DI 0 "nvptx_register_operand" "=R") (truncate:DI (lshiftrt:TI (mult:TI (sign_extend:TI (match_operand:DI 1 "nvptx_register_operand" "R")) (sign_extend:TI (match_operand:DI 2 "nvptx_register_operand" "R"))) (const_int 64))))] "" "%.\\tmul.hi.s64\\t%0, %1, %2;") One complication with using this "widening multiplication" representation is that it requires an intermediate in a wider mode, making it difficult or impossible to encode a high-part multiplication of the widest supported integer mode. A second is that it can interfere with optimization; for example simplify-rtx.c contains the comment: case TRUNCATE: /* Don't optimize (lshiftrt (mult ...)) as it would interfere with the umulXi3_highpart patterns. */ Hopefully these problems are solved (or reduced) by introducing a new canonical form for high-part multiplications in RTL passes. This also simplifies insn patterns when one operand is constant. Whilst implementing some constant folding simplifications and compile-time evaluation of these new RTX codes, I noticed that this functionality could also be added for the existing saturating arithmetic RTX codes. Then likewise when documenting these new RTX codes, I also took the opportunity to silence the @xref warnings in invoke.texi. 2021-10-07 Roger Sayle <roger@nextmovesoftware.com> gcc/ChangeLog * rtl.def (SMUL_HIGHPART, UMUL_HIGHPART): New RTX codes for representing signed and unsigned high-part multiplication resp. * simplify-rtx.c (simplify_binary_operation_1) [SMUL_HIGHPART, UMUL_HIGHPART]: Simplify high-part multiplications by zero. 2021-05-04Remove CC0Segher Boessenkool1-131/+21
This removes CC0 and all directly related infrastructure. CC_STATUS, CC_STATUS_MDEP, CC_STATUS_MDEP_INIT, and NOTICE_UPDATE_CC are deleted and poisoned. CC0 is only deleted (some targets use that name for something else). HAVE_cc0 is automatically generated, and we no longer will do that after this patch. CC_STATUS_INIT is suggested in final.c to also be useful for ports that are not CC0, and at least arm seems to use it for something. So I am leaving that alone, but most targets that have it could remove it. 2021-05-04 Segher Boessenkool <segher@kernel.crashing.org> * caller-save.c: Remove CC0. * cfgcleanup.c: Remove CC0. * cfgrtl.c: Remove CC0. * combine.c: Remove CC0. * compare-elim.c: Remove CC0. * conditions.h: Remove CC0. * config/h8300/h8300.h: Remove CC0. * config/h8300/h8300-protos.h: Remove CC0. * config/h8300/peepholes.md: Remove CC0. * config/i386/x86-tune-sched.c: Remove CC0. * config/m68k/m68k.c: Remove CC0. * config/rl78/rl78.c: Remove CC0. * config/sparc/sparc.c: Remove CC0. * config/xtensa/xtensa.c: Remove CC0. 2021-01-09RTL: Update `const_double_zero' handling for mode and callable insnsMaciej W. Rozycki1-2/+2
Handle machine mode specification with `const_double_zero' and handle the rtx with callable code produced from named insns. Complementing commit 20ab43b5cad6 ("RTL: Add `const_double_zero' syntactic rtx") and removing a commit c60d0736dff7 ("PDP11: Use `const_double_zero' to express double zero constant") build regression observed with the `pdp11-aout' target: genemit: Internal error: abort in gen_exp, at genemit.c:202 make[2]: *** [Makefile:2427: s-emit] Error 1 where a: (const_double 0 [0] 0 [0] 0 [0] 0 [0]) rtx coming from: (parallel [ (set (reg:CC 16) (compare:CC (abs:DF (match_operand:DF 1 ("general_operand") ("0,0"))) (const_double 0 [0] 0 [0] 0 [0] 0 [0]))) (set (match_operand:DF 0 ("nonimmediate_operand") ("=fR,Q")) (abs:DF (match_dup 1))) ]) and ultimately `(const_double_zero)' referred in a named RTL insn cannot be interpreted. 2020-12-17doc: Add documentation for rtl-ssaRichard Sandiford1-0/+787
This patch adds some documentation to rtl.texi about the SSA form. It only really describes the high-level structure -- I think for API-level stuff it's better to rely on function comments instead. gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi (RTL SSA): New node.
2020-12-05RTL: Add `const_double_zero' syntactic rtxMaciej W. Rozycki1-0/+18
The use of a constant double zero is required for post-reload compare elimination to be able to discard redundant floating-point comparisons, for example with a VAX RTL instruction stream like: (insn 34 4 3 2 (parallel [ (set (reg/v:DF 0 %r0 [orig:24 x ] [24]) (mem/c:DF (plus:SI (reg/f:SI 12 %ap) (const_int 4 [0x4])) [1 x+0 S8 A32])) (clobber (reg:CC 16 %psl)) ]) ".../gcc/testsuite/gcc.target/vax/cmpelim-eq-movdf.c":9:1 37 {*movdf} (nil)) (note 3 34 35 2 NOTE_INSN_FUNCTION_BEG) (insn 35 3 36 2 (set (reg:CCZ 16 %psl) (compare:CCZ (reg/v:DF 0 %r0 [orig:24 x ] [24]) (const_double:DF 0.0 [0x0.0p+0]))) ".../gcc/testsuite/gcc.target/vax/cmpelim-eq-movdf.c":10:6 21 {*cmpdf_ccz} (nil)) (jump_insn 36 35 9 2 (set (pc) (if_then_else (eq (reg:CCZ 16 %psl) (const_int 0 [0])) (label_ref 11) (pc))) ".../gcc/testsuite/gcc.target/vax/cmpelim-eq-movdf.c":10:6 537 {*branch_ccz} (int_list:REG_BR_PROB 536870916 (nil)) -> 11) that we want to transform into: (insn 34 4 3 2 (parallel [ (set (reg:CCZ 16 %psl) (compare:CCZ (mem/c:DF (plus:SI (reg/f:SI 12 %ap) (const_int 4 [0x4])) [1 x+0 S8 A32]) (const_double:DF 0.0 [0x0.0p+0]))) (set (reg/v:DF 0 %r0 [orig:24 x ] [24]) (mem/c:DF (plus:SI (reg/f:SI 12 %ap) (const_int 4 [0x4])) [1 x+0 S8 A32])) ]) ".../gcc/testsuite/gcc.target/vax/cmpelim-eq-movdf.c":9:1 40 {*movdf_ccz} (nil)) (note 3 34 36 2 NOTE_INSN_FUNCTION_BEG) (jump_insn 36 3 9 2 (set (pc) (if_then_else (eq (reg:CCZ 16 %psl) (const_int 0 [0])) (label_ref 11) (pc))) ".../gcc/testsuite/gcc.target/vax/cmpelim-eq-movdf.c":10:6 537 {*branch_ccz} (int_list:REG_BR_PROB 536870916 (nil)) -> 11) with the upcoming MODE_CC representation. For this we need to express the `const_double:DF 0.0 [0x0.0p+0]' rtx as recorded above in the relevant pattern(s) in machine description. The way we represent double constants, as a host-dependent number of wide integers, however means that we currently have no portable way to encode a double zero constant in machine description. Define a syntactic rtx alias then to represent `(const_double 0 0 ...)' as if the suitable number of zeros have been supplied according to the host-specific definition of CONST_DOUBLE_FORMAT. gcc/ * read-rtl.c (rtx_reader::read_rtx_code): Handle syntactic `const_double_zero' rtx. * doc/rtl.texi (Constant Expression Types): Document it.
2020-11-17Add MODE_OPAQUEAaron Sawdey1-0/+6
After discussion with Richard Sandiford on IRC, he suggested adding a new mode class MODE_OPAQUE to deal with the problems (PR 96791) we had been having with POImode/PXImode in powerpc target. This patch is the accumulation of changes I needed to make to add this and make it useable for the purposes of what power10 MMA needed. MODE_OPAQUE modes allow you to have modes for which you can just define loads and stores. By design, optimization does not expect to know how to do arithmetic or subregs on these modes. This allows us to have modes for multi-register vector operations where we don't want to open Pandora's Box and define general arithmetic operations. This patch will be followed by a target specific patch to change the powerpc power10 MMA builtins to use opaque modes, and will also let use use the vector pair loads/stores defined with that in the inline expansion of memcpy/memmove, allowing me to fix PR 96791. gcc/ChangeLog PR target/96791 * mode-classes.def: Add MODE_OPAQUE. * machmode.def: Add OPAQUE_MODE. * tree.def: Add OPAQUE_TYPE for types that will use MODE_OPAQUE. * doc/generic.texi: Document OPAQUE_TYPE. * doc/rtl.texi: Document MODE_OPAQUE. * machmode.h: Add OPAQUE_MODE_P(). * genmodes.c (complete_mode): Add MODE_OPAQUE. 2019-10-01Remove clobber_highRichard Sandiford1-14/+1
The AArch64 SVE tlsdesc patterns were the main motivating reason for clobber_high. It's no longer needed now that the patterns use calls instead. At the time, one of the possible future uses for clobber_high was for asm statements. However, the current code wouldn't handle that case without modification, so I think we might as well remove it for now. 2018-09-19Remove constant vec_select restriction.Andrew Stubbs1-5/+6
The vec_select operator is documented to require a const_int for the lane selector operand, but GCN has an instruction that can select the lane at runtime, so it seems reasonable to remove this restriction. This patch simply replaces assertions that the operand is constant with early exits from the optimizers. I think it's reasonable that vec_select with a non-constant operand cannot be optimized, yet. 2018-01-10Mostly revert r254296Richard Sandiford1-12/+6

2018-01-02New CONST_VECTOR layoutRichard Sandiford1-12/+86
This patch makes CONST_VECTOR use the same encoding as VECTOR_CST. One problem that occurs in RTL but not at the tree level is that a fair amount of code uses XVEC and XVECEXP directly on CONST_VECTORs (which is valid, just with looser checking). This is complicated by the fact that vectors are also represented as PARALLELs in some target interfaces, so using XVECEXP is a good polymorphic way of handling both forms. Rather than try to untangle all that, the best approach seemed to be to continue to encode every element in a fixed-length vector. That way only target-independent and AArch64 code need to be precise about using CONST_VECTOR_ELT over XVECEXP. After this change is no longer valid to modify CONST_VECTORs in-place. This needed some fix-up in the powerpc backends. 2018-01-02 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi (const_vector): Describe new encoding scheme. * Makefile.in (OBJS): Add rtx-vector-builder.o. * rtx-vector-builder.h: New file. * rtx-vector-builder.c: Likewise. * rtl.h (rtx_def::u2): Add a const_vector field. 2017-12-20poly_int: SUBREG_BYTERichard Sandiford1-15/+22
This patch changes SUBREG_BYTE from an int to a poly_int. Since valid SUBREG_BYTEs must be contained within the mode of the SUBREG_REG, the required range is the same as for GET_MODE_SIZE, i.e. unsigned short. The patch therefore uses poly_uint16(_pod) for the SUBREG_BYTE. Using poly_uint16_pod rtx fields requires a new field code ('p'). Since there are no other uses of 'p' besides SUBREG_BYTE, the patch doesn't add an XPOLY or whatever; all uses should go via SUBREG_BYTE instead. The patch doesn't bother implementing 'p' support for legacy define_peepholes, since none of the remaining ones have subregs in their patterns. As it happened, the rtl documentation used SUBREG as an example of a code with mixed field types, accessed via XEXP (x, 0) and XINT (x, 1). Since there's no direct replacement for XINT, and since people should never use it even if there were, the patch changes the example to use INT_LIST instead. The patch also changes subreg-related helper functions so that they too take and return polynomial offsets. This makes the patch quite big, but it's mostly mechanical. The patch generally sticks to existing choices wrt signedness. 2017-12-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi: Update documentation of SUBREG_BYTE. 2017-12-20poly_int: rtx constantsRichard Sandiford1-0/+14
This patch adds an rtl representation of poly_int values. There were three possible ways of doing this: (1) Add a new rtl code for the poly_ints themselves and store the coefficients as trailing wide_ints. This would give constants like: (const_poly_int [c0 c1 ... cn]) The runtime value would be: c0 + c1 * x1 + ... + cn * xn (2) Like (1), but use rtxes for the coefficients. This would give constants like: (const_poly_int [(const_int c0) (const_int c1) ... (const_int cn)]) although the coefficients could be const_wide_ints instead of const_ints where appropriate. (3) Add a new rtl code for the polynomial indeterminates, then use them in const wrappers. A constant like c0 + c1 * x1 would then look like: (const:M (plus:M (mult:M (const_param:M x1) (const_int c1)) (const_int c0))) There didn't seem to be that much to choose between them. The main advantage of (1) is that it's a more efficient representation and that we can refer to the cofficients directly as wide_int_storage. 2017-12-20 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * doc/rtl.texi (const_poly_int): Document. 2017-12-14poly_int: add poly-int.hRichard Sandiford1-0/+9
This patch adds a new "poly_int" class to represent polynomial integers of the form: C0 + C1*X1 + C2*X2 ... + Cn*Xn It also adds poly_int-based typedefs for offsets and sizes of various precisions. In these typedefs, the Ci coefficients are compile-time constants and the Xi indeterminates are run-time invariants. The number of coefficients is controlled by the target and is initially 1 for all ports. Most routines can handle general coefficient counts, but for now a few are specific to one or two coefficients. Support for other coefficient counts can be added when needed. The patch also adds a new macro, IN_TARGET_CODE, that can be set to indicate that a TU contains target-specific rather than target-independent code. When this macro is set and the number of coefficients is 1, the poly-int.h classes define a conversion operator to a constant. This allows most existing target code to work without modification. The main exceptions are: - values passed through ..., which need an explicit conversion to a constant - ?: expression in which one arm ends up being a polynomial and the other remains a constant. In these cases it would be valid to convert the constant to a polynomial and the polynomial to a constant, so a cast is needed to break the ambiguity. The patch also adds a new target hook to return the estimated value of a polynomial for costing purposes. The patch also adds operator<< on wide_ints (it was already defined for offset_int and widest_int). I think this was originally excluded because >> is ambiguous for wide_int, but << is useful for converting bytes to bits, etc., so is worth defining on its own. The patch also adds operator% and operator/ for offset_int and widest_int, since those types are always signed. These changes allow the poly_int interface to be more predictable. I'd originally tried adding the tests as selftests, but that ended up bloating cc1 by at least a third. It also took a while to build them at -O2. The patch therefore uses plugin tests instead, where we can force the tests to be built at -O0. They still run in negligible time when built that way. 2017-12-14 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@linaro.org> Alan Hayward <alan.hayward@arm.com> David Sherwood <david.sherwood@arm.com> gcc/ * poly-int.h: New file. * poly-int-types.h: Likewise. * coretypes.h: Include them. 2017-12-12[SFN] introduce statement frontier notes, still disabledAlexandre Oliva1-9/+44
This patch completes the infrastructure for the introduction of statement frontiers in C-family languages. It brings in all the code remaining code needed to introduce and transform begin stmt trees, gimple stmts, insns and notes, and ultimately use them to generate the is_stmt column in DWARF2+ line number tables/programs, however none of it is activated: the option that would do so will be introduced in a subsequent patch.
