This issue was caught with assert checking enabled but is not a
functional bug as XINT(x, 0) happens to overlay INTVAL(x) anyway.

This patch changes the type of current_vector_size to poly_uint64.
It also changes TARGET_AUTOVECTORIZE_VECTOR_SIZES so that it fills
in a vector of possible sizes (as poly_uint64s) instead of returning
a bitmask. The documentation claimed that the hook didn't need to
include the default vector size (returned by preferred_simd_mode),
but that wasn't consistent with the omp-low.c usage.

One of the changes needed for variable-length VEC_PERM_EXPRs -- and for
long fixed-length VEC_PERM_EXPRs -- is the ability to use constant
selectors that wouldn't fit in the vectors being permuted. E.g. a
permute on two V256QIs can't be done using a V256QI selector.
At the moment constant permutes use two interfaces:
targetm.vectorizer.vec_perm_const_ok for testing whether a permute is
valid and the vec_perm_const optab for actually emitting the permute.
The former gets passed a vec<> selector and the latter an rtx selector.
Most ports share a lot of code between the hook and the optab, with a
wrapper function for each interface.
We could try to keep that interface and require ports to define wider
vector modes that could be attached to the CONST_VECTOR (e.g. V256HI or
V256SI in the example above). But building a CONST_VECTOR rtx seems a bit
pointless here, since the expand code only creates the CONST_VECTOR in
order to call the optab, and the first thing the target does is take
the CONST_VECTOR apart again.
The easiest approach therefore seemed to be to remove the optab and
reuse the target hook to emit the code. One potential drawback is that
it's no longer possible to use match_operand predicates to force
operands into the required form, but in practice all targets want
register operands anyway.
The patch also changes vec_perm_indices into a class that provides
some simple routines for handling permutations. A later patch will
flesh this out and get rid of auto_vec_perm_indices, but I didn't
want to do all that in this patch and make it more complicated than
it already is.

This patch adds a fixed_size_mode machine_mode wrapper
for modes that are known to have a fixed size. That applies
to all current modes, but future patches will add support for
variable-sized modes.
The use of this class should be pretty restricted. One important
use case is to hold the mode of static data, which can never be
variable-sized with current file formats. Another is to hold
the modes of registers involved in __builtin_apply and
__builtin_result, since those interfaces don't cope well with
variable-sized data.
The class can also be useful when reinterpreting the contents of
a fixed-length bit string as a different kind of value.

This patch adds helper functions for generating constant and
non-constant vector duplicates. These routines help with SVE because
it is then easier to use:
(const:M (vec_duplicate:M X))
for a broadcast of X, even if the number of elements in M isn't known
at compile time. It also makes it easier for general rtx code to treat
constant and non-constant duplicates in the same way.
In the target code, the patch uses gen_vec_duplicate instead of
gen_rtx_VEC_DUPLICATE if handling constants correctly is potentially
useful. It might be that some or all of the call sites only handle
non-constants in practice, in which case the change is a harmless
no-op (and a saving of a few characters).
Otherwise, the target changes use gen_const_vec_duplicate instead
of gen_rtx_CONST_VECTOR if the constant is obviously a duplicate.
They also include some changes to use CONSTxx_RTX for easy global
constants.

I took the documentation of the FRAME_GROWS_DOWNWARD behaviour from the
version that was in most header files, since the one in the manual seemed
less clear.
The patch deliberately keeps FIRST_PARM_OFFSET(FNDECL) in
microblaze_starting_frame_offset; this seems to be a port-local
convention and takes advantage of the fact that FIRST_PARM_OFFSET
doesn't read FNDECL.

The definition:
#define CONSTANT_ALIGNMENT(EXP, ALIGN) \
(TREE_CODE (EXP) == STRING_CST \
&& (ALIGN) < BITS_PER_WORD ? BITS_PER_WORD : (ALIGN))
was very common, so the patch adds a canned definition for that,
called constant_alignment_word_strings. Some ports had a variation
that used a port-local FASTEST_ALIGNMENT instead of BITS_PER_WORD;
the patch uses constant_alignment_word_strings if FASTEST_ALIGNMENT
was always BITS_PER_WORD and a port-local hook function otherwise.

This patch makes TARGET_VECTORIZE_VEC_PERM_CONST_OK take the permute
vector in the form of a vec_perm_indices instead of an unsigned char *.
It follows on from the recent patch that did the same in target-independent
code.
It was easy to make ARM and AArch64 use vec_perm_indices internally
as well, and converting AArch64 helps with SVE. I did try doing the same
for the other ports, but the surgery needed was much more invasive and
much less obviously correct.

I'm not sure the documentation is correct that outprec is always less
than inprec, and each non-default implementation tested for the case
in which it wasn't, but the patch leaves it as-is.
The SH port had a couple of TRULY_NOOP_TRUNCATION tests that were left
over from the old shmedia port.

Since the patch is going through all the definitions anyway, it seemed
like a good opportunity to put the mode argument first, to match the
order for register_move_cost.

This patch converts hard_regno_nregs into an inline function, which
in turn allows hard_regno_nregs to be used as the name of a targetm
field. This is just a mechanical change.

This patch converts more places that could use int_mode_for_size instead
of mode_for_size. This is in preparation for an upcoming patch that
makes mode_for_size itself return an opt_mode.
require () seems like the right choice in expand_builtin_powi
because we have got past the point of backing out. We go on to do:
op1 = expand_expr (arg1, NULL_RTX, mode2, EXPAND_NORMAL);
if (GET_MODE (op1) != mode2)
op1 = convert_to_mode (mode2, op1, 0);
which would be invalid for (and have failed for) BLKmode.
In get_builtin_sync_mode and expand_ifn_atomic_compare_exchange,
the possible bitsizes are {8, 16, 32, 64, 128}, all of which give
target-independent integer modes (up to TImode). The comment above
the call in get_builtin_sync_mode makes clear that an integer mode
must be found.
We can use require () in expand_builtin_atomic_clear and
expand_builtin_atomic_test_and_set because there's always an integer
mode for the boolean type. The same goes for the POINTER_SIZE request
in layout_type. Similarly we can use require () in combine_instructions
and gen_lowpart_common because there's always an integer mode for
HOST_BITS_PER_WIDE_INT (DImode when BITS_PER_UNIT == 8), and
HOST_BITS_PER_DOUBLE_INT (TImode).
The calls in aarch64_function_value, arm_function_value,
aapcs_allocate_return_reg and mips_function_value_1 are handling
cases in which a big-endian target passes or returns values at
the most significant end of a register. In each case the ABI
constrains the size to a small amount and does not handle
non-power-of-2 sizes wider than a word.
The calls in c6x_expand_movmem, i386.c:emit_memset,
lm32_block_move_inline, microblaze_block_move_straight and
mips_block_move_straight are dealing with expansions of
block memory operations using register-wise operations,
and those registers must have non-BLK mode.
The reason for using require () in ix86_expand_sse_cmp,
mips_expand_ins_as_unaligned_store, spu.c:adjust_operand and
spu_emit_branch_and_set is that we go on to emit non-call
instructions that use registers of that mode, which wouldn't
be valid for BLKmode.

The SVE patches change the size of a machine_mode from a compile-time
constant to a runtime invariant. However, target-specific code can
continue to treat the modes as constant-sized if the target only has
constant-sized modes.
The main snag with this approach is that target-independent code still
uses macros from the target .h file. This patch is one of several that
converts a target macro to a hook.

PR82045 is about a bootstrap failure on sparc-sun-solaris2.11.
The problem was that we were passing the new machine_mode wrapper
classes through "..." to emit_library_call(_value), which then
read them back as ints instead.
The simplest fix seemed to be replace "..." with an array of
rtx_mode_ts, then provide wrappers for the common cases. This
bulks out rtl.h a bit, but it does make things a bit more typesafe.

GET_MODE_WIDER previously returned VOIDmode if no wider mode existed.
That would cause problems with stricter mode classes, since VOIDmode
isn't for example a valid scalar integer or floating-point mode.
This patch instead makes it return a new opt_mode<T> class, which
holds either a T or nothing.

Later patches will add support for frame sizes that are a run-time
invariant but not a compile-time constant. This then raised the
question of whether the frame size argument to the function_prologue/
epilogue hooks should be updated accordingly.
It turned out that only two targets actually used this argument, and
even they got other frame-related information from the cached machine
structure. This patch therefore removes the argument and makes the two
targets use get_frame_size () instead.
