2021-11-16Replace more DEBUG_EXPR_DECL creations with build_debug_expr_declMartin Jambor1-3/+2
As discussed on the mailing list, this patch replaces all but one remaining open coded constructions of DEBUG_EXPR_DECL with calls to build_debug_expr_decl, even if - in order not to introduce any functional change - the mode of the constructed decl is then overwritten. It is not clear if changing the mode has any effect in practice and therefore I have added a FIXME note to code which does it, as requested. After this patch, DEBUG_EXPR_DECLs are created only by build_debug_expr_decl and make_debug_expr_from_rtl which looks like it should be left alone. gcc/ChangeLog: 2021-11-11 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> * cfgexpand.c (expand_gimple_basic_block): Use build_debug_expr_decl, add a fixme note about the mode assignment perhaps being unnecessary. * ipa-param-manipulation.c (ipa_param_adjustments::modify_call): Likewise. 2021-11-09Introduce build_debug_expr_declMartin Jambor1-4/+1
This patch introduces a helper function build_debug_expr_decl to build DEBUG_EXPR_DECL tree nodes in the most common way and replaces with a call of this function all code pieces which build such a DECL itself and sets its mode to the TYPE_MODE of its type. There still remain 11 instances of open-coded creation of a DEBUG_EXPR_DECL which set the mode of the DECL to something else. It would probably be a good idea to figure out that has any effect and if not, convert them to calls of build_debug_expr_decl too. But this patch deliberately does not introduce any functional changes. gcc/ChangeLog: 2021-11-08 Martin Jambor <mjambor@suse.cz> * tree.h (build_debug_expr_decl): Declare. * tree.c (build_debug_expr_decl): New function. * cfgexpand.c (avoid_deep_ter_for_debug): Use build_debug_expr_decl instead of building a DEBUG_EXPR_DECL. * ipa-param-manipulation.c (ipa_param_body_adjustments::prepare_debug_expressions): Likewise. * omp-simd-clone.c (ipa_simd_modify_stmt_ops): Likewise. * tree-ssa-ccp.c (optimize_atomic_bit_test_and): Likewise. * tree-ssa-phiopt.c (spaceship_replacement): Likewise. * tree-ssa-reassoc.c (make_new_ssa_for_def): Likewise.

2021-06-21inline-asm: Fix ICE with bitfields in "m" operands [PR100785]Jakub Jelinek1-8/+35
Bitfields, while they live in memory, aren't something inline-asm can easily operate on. For C and "=m" or "+m", we were diagnosing bitfields in the past in the FE, where c_mark_addressable had: case COMPONENT_REF: if (DECL_C_BIT_FIELD (TREE_OPERAND (x, 1))) { error ("cannot take address of bit-field %qD", TREE_OPERAND (x, 1)); return false; } but that check got moved in GCC 6 to build_unary_op instead and now we emit an error during expansion and ICE afterwards (i.e. error-recovery). For "m" it used to be diagnosed in c_mark_addressable too, but since GCC 6 it is ice-on-invalid. For C++, this was never diagnosed in the FE, but used to be diagnosed in the gimplifier and/or during expansion before 4.8. The following patch does multiple things: 1) diagnoses it in the FEs 2) stops emitting a redundant diagnostic in the gimplifier using the usual way, if we already see error_mark_node, we assume error has been emitted already and only diagnose if it wasn't error_mark_node; this helps diagnosing the same bug with multiple different errors 3) simplifies during expansion the inline asm if any errors have been reported (similarly how e.g. vregs pass if it detects errors on inline-asm either deletes them or simplifies to bare minimum - just labels), so that we don't have error-recovery ICEs there 2021-06-11 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR inline-asm/100785 gcc/ * gimplify.c (gimplify_asm_expr): Don't diagnose errors if output or input operands were already error_mark_node. * cfgexpand.c (expand_asm_stmt): If errors are emitted, remove all inputs, outputs and clobbers from the asm and set template to "". gcc/c/ * c-typeck.c (c_mark_addressable): Diagnose trying to make bit-fields addressable. gcc/cp/ * typeck.c (cxx_mark_addressable): Diagnose trying to make bit-fields addressable. gcc/testsuite/ * c-c++-common/pr100785.c: New test. * gcc.dg/pr48552-1.c: Don't expect invalid lvalue errors. * gcc.dg/pr48552-2.c: Likewise.

modes [PR100508] The inliner doesn't remap DEBUG_EXPR_DECLs, so the same decls can appear in multiple functions. Furthermore, expansion reuses corresponding DEBUG_EXPRs too, so they again can be reused in multiple functions. Neither of that is a major problem, DEBUG_EXPRs are just magic value holders and what value they stand for is independent in each function and driven by what debug stmts or DEBUG_INSNs they are bound to. Except for DEBUG_EXPR*s with vector types, TYPE_MODE can be either BLKmode or some vector mode depending on whether current function's enabled ISAs support that vector mode or not. On the following testcase, we expand it first in foo function without AVX2 enabled and so the DEBUG_EXPR is BLKmode, but later the same DEBUG_EXPR_DECL is used in a simd clone with AVX2 enabled and expansion ICEs because of a mode mismatch. The following patch fixes that by forcing recreation of a DEBUG_EXPR if there is a mode mismatch for vector typed DEBUG_EXPR_DECL, DEBUG_EXPRs will be still reused in between functions otherwise and within the same function the mode should be always the same. 2021-05-12 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR middle-end/100508 * cfgexpand.c (expand_debug_expr): For DEBUG_EXPR_DECL with vector type, don't reuse DECL_RTL if it has different mode, instead force creation of a new DEBUG_EXPR. * gcc.dg/gomp/pr100508.c: New test.

2021-05-05middle-end/100394 - avoid DSE/DCE of pure call that throwsRichard Biener1-1/+4
There is -fdelete-dead-exceptions now and we're tracking nothrow and const/pure bits separately and I do remember that const or pure does _not_ imply nothrow. Now, in the light of the PR100382 fix which added a stmt_unremovable_because_of_non_call_eh_p guard to DSEs "DCE" I wondered how -fdelete-dead-exceptions applies to calls and whether stmt_unremovable_because_of_non_call_eh_p doing return (fun->can_throw_non_call_exceptions && !fun->can_delete_dead_exceptions && stmt_could_throw_p (fun, stmt)); really should conditionalize itself on fun->can_throw_non_call_exceptions. In fact DCE happily elides pure function calls that throw without a LHS (probably a consistency bug). The following testcase shows this: int x, y; int __attribute__((pure,noinline)) foo () { if (x) throw 1; return y; } int main() { int a[2]; x = 1; try { int res = foo (); a[0] = res; } catch (...) { return 0; } return 1; } note that if you wrap foo () into another noinline wrap_foo () { foo (); return 1; } function then we need to make sure to not DCE this call either even though it only throws externally. 2021-05-03 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> PR middle-end/100394 * calls.c (expand_call): Preserve possibly throwing calls. * cfgexpand.c (expand_call_stmt): When a call can throw signal RTL expansion there are side-effects. * tree-ssa-dce.c (mark_stmt_if_obviously_necessary): Simplify, mark all possibly throwing stmts necessary unless we can elide dead EH. * tree-ssa-dse.c (pass_dse::execute): Preserve exceptions unless -fdelete-dead-exceptions. * tree.h (DECL_PURE_P): Add note about exceptions. * g++.dg/torture/pr100382.C: New testcase.

If TARGET_MD_ASM_ADJUST changes a mode of an input operand (which should be ok as long as the hook itself as well as after_md_seq make up for it), input_mode will contain stale information. 2020-12-04debug: Fix another vector DECL_MODE ICE [PR98100]Jakub Jelinek1-2/+5
The PR88587 fix changes DECL_MODE of vars with vector type during inlining/cloning when the vars are copied, so that their DECL_MODE matches their TYPE_MODE in the new function. Unfortunately, the following testcase still ICEs, the var isn't really used in the new function and so it isn't copied, but becomes just a nonlocalized var. So we can't adjust its DECL_MODE because it appears in multiple functions and needs different modes in between them. The following patch changes the DEBUG_INSN creation to use TYPE_MODE instead of DECL_MODE for vars with vector types. 2020-12-04 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR target/98100 * cfgexpand.c (expand_gimple_basic_block): For vars with vector type, use TYPE_MODE rather than DECL_MODE. * gcc.target/i386/pr98100.c: New test.
2020-11-25libsanitizer: mid-end: Introduce stack variable handling for HWASANMatthew Malcomson1-21/+146
Handling stack variables has three features. 1) Ensure HWASAN required alignment for stack variables When tagging shadow memory, we need to ensure that each tag granule is only used by one variable at a time. This is done by ensuring that each tagged variable is aligned to the tag granule representation size and also ensure that the end of each object is aligned to ensure the start of any other data stored on the stack is in a different granule. This patch ensures the above by forcing the stack pointer to be aligned before and after allocating any stack objects. Since we are forcing alignment we also use `align_local_variable` to ensure this new alignment is advertised properly through SET_DECL_ALIGN. 2) Put tags into each stack variable pointer Make sure that every pointer to a stack variable includes a tag of some sort on it. The way tagging works is: 1) For every new stack frame, a random tag is generated. 2) A base register is formed from the stack pointer value and this random tag. 3) References to stack variables are now formed with RTL describing an offset from this base in both tag and value. The random tag generation is handled by a backend hook. This hook decides whether to introduce a random tag or use the stack background based on the parameter hwasan-random-frame-tag. Using the stack background is necessary for testing and bootstrap. It is necessary during bootstrap to avoid breaking the `configure` test program for determining stack direction. Using the stack background means that every stack frame has the initial tag of zero and variables are tagged with incrementing tags from 1, which also makes debugging a bit easier. Backend hooks define the size of a tag, the layout of the HWASAN shadow memory, and handle emitting the code that inserts and extracts tags from a pointer. 3) For each stack variable, tag and untag the shadow stack on function prologue and epilogue. On entry to each function we tag the relevant shadow stack region for each stack variable. This stack region is tagged to match the tag added to each pointer to that variable. This is the first patch where we use the HWASAN shadow space, so we need to add in the libhwasan initialisation code that creates this shadow memory region into the binary we produce. This instrumentation is done in `compile_file`. When exiting a function we need to ensure the shadow stack for this function has no remaining tags. Without clearing the shadow stack area for this stack frame, later function calls could get false positives when those later function calls check untagged areas (such as parameters passed on the stack) against a shadow stack area with left-over tag. Hence we ensure that the entire stack frame is cleared on function exit. config/ChangeLog: * bootstrap-hwasan.mk: Disable random frame tags for stack-tagging during bootstrap. gcc/ChangeLog: * asan.c (struct hwasan_stack_var): New. 2020-11-06core: Rename DECL_IS_BUILTIN -> DECL_IS_UNDECLARED_BUILTINNathan Sidwell1-1/+1
In cleaning up C++'s handling of hidden decls, I renamed its DECL_BUILTIN_P, which checks for loc == BUILTINS_LOCATION to DECL_UNDECLARED_BUILTIN_P, because the location gets updated, if user source declares the builtin, and the predicate no longer holds. The original name was confusing me. (The builtin may still retain builtin properties in the redeclaration, and other predicates can still detect that.) I discovered that tree.h had its own variant 'DECL_IS_BUILTIN', which behaves in (almost) the same manner. And therefore has the same mutating behaviour. This patch deletes the C++ one, and renames tree.h's to DECL_IS_UNDECLARED_BUILTIN, to emphasize its non-constantness. I guess _IS_ wins over _P gcc/ * tree.h (DECL_IS_BUILTIN): Rename to ... 2020-06-05middle-end/95493 - bogus MEM_ATTRS for variable array accessRichard Biener1-1/+2
The following patch avoids keeping the inherited MEM_ATTRS when set_mem_attributes_minus_bitpos is called with a variable ARRAY_REF. The inherited ones may not reflect the correct offset and neither does the updated alias-set match the inherited MEM_EXPR. This all ends up confusing path-based alias-analysis, causing wrong-code. The fix is to stop not adopting a MEM_EXPR for certain kinds of expressions and instead handle everything we can. There's still the constant kind trees case which I'm too lazy to look into right now. I did refrain from adding SSA_NAME there and instead avoided calling set_mem_attributes_minus_bitpos when debug expression expansion ended up expanding a SSA definition RHS which should already have taken care of setting the appropriate MEM_ATTRS. 2020-06-04 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> PR middle-end/95493 * cfgexpand.c (expand_debug_expr): Avoid calling set_mem_attributes_minus_bitpos when we were expanding an SSA name. * emit-rtl.c (set_mem_attributes_minus_bitpos): Remove ARRAY_REF special-casing, add CONSTRUCTOR to the set of special-cases we do not want MEM_EXPRs for. 2020-05-07extend DECL_GIMPLE_REG_P to all typesRichard Biener1-0/+29
This extends DECL_GIMPLE_REG_P to all types so we can clear TREE_ADDRESSABLE even for integers with partial defs, not just complex and vector variables. To make that transition easier the patch inverts DECL_GIMPLE_REG_P to DECL_NOT_GIMPLE_REG_P since that makes the default the current state for all other types besides complex and vectors. For the testcase in PR94703 we're able to expand the partial def'ed local integer to a register then, producing a single movl rather than going through the stack. On i?86 this execute FAILs gcc.dg/torture/pr71522.c because we now expand a round-trip through a long double automatic var to a register fld/fst which normalizes the value. For that during RTL expansion we're looking for problematic punnings of decls and avoid pseudos for those - I chose integer or BLKmode accesses on decls with modes where precision doesn't match bitsize which covers the XFmode case. 2020-05-07 Richard Biener <rguenther@suse.de> PR middle-end/94703 * tree-core.h (tree_decl_common::gimple_reg_flag): Rename ... 2020-03-17Fix up duplicated duplicated words mostly in commentsJakub Jelinek1-1/+1
In the r10-7197-gbae7b38cf8a21e068ad5c0bab089dedb78af3346 commit I've noticed duplicated word in a message, which lead me to grep for those and we have a tons of them. I've used grep -v 'long long\|optab optab\|template template\|double double' *.[chS] */*.[chS] *.def config/*/* 2>/dev/null | grep ' \([a-zA-Z]\+\) \1 ' Note, the command will not detect the doubled words at the start or end of line or when one of the words is at the end of line and the next one at the start of another one. Some of it is fairly obvious, e.g. all the "the the" cases which is something I've posted and committed patch for already e.g. in 2016, other cases are often valid, e.g. "that that" seems to look mostly ok to me. Some cases are quite hard to figure out, I've left out some of them from the patch (e.g. "and and" in some cases isn't talking about bitwise/logical and and so looks incorrect, but in other cases it is talking about those operations). In most cases the right solution seems to be to remove one of the duplicated words, but not always. I think most important are the ones with user visible messages (in the patch 3 of the first 4 hunks), the rest is just comments (and internal documentation; for that see the doc/tm.texi changes). 2020-03-17 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * lra-spills.c (remove_pseudos): Fix up duplicated word issue in a dump message. * tree-sra.c (create_access_replacement): Fix up duplicated word issue in a comment. * read-rtl-function.c (find_param_by_name, function_reader::parse_enum_value, function_reader::get_insn_by_uid): Likewise. * spellcheck.c (get_edit_distance_cutoff): Likewise. * tree-data-ref.c (create_ifn_alias_checks): Likewise. * tree.def (SWITCH_EXPR): Likewise. * selftest.c (assert_str_contains): Likewise. * ipa-param-manipulation.h (class ipa_param_body_adjustments): Likewise. * tree-ssa-math-opts.c (convert_expand_mult_copysign): Likewise. * tree-ssa-loop-split.c (find_vdef_in_loop): Likewise. * langhooks.h (struct lang_hooks_for_decls): Likewise. * ipa-prop.h (struct ipa_param_descriptor): Likewise. * tree-ssa-strlen.c (handle_builtin_string_cmp, handle_store): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dom.c (simplify_stmt_for_jump_threading): Likewise. * tree-ssa-reassoc.c (reassociate_bb): Likewise. * tree.c (component_ref_size): Likewise. * hsa-common.c (hsa_init_compilation_unit_data): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-sprintf.c (get_string_length, format_string, format_directive): Likewise. * omp-grid.c (grid_process_kernel_body_copy): Likewise. * input.c (string_concat_db::get_string_concatenation, test_lexer_string_locations_ucn4): Likewise. * cfgexpand.c (pass_expand::execute): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-warn-restrict.c (builtin_memref::offset_out_of_bounds, maybe_diag_overlap): Likewise. * rtl.c (RTX_CODE_HWINT_P_1): Likewise. * shrink-wrap.c (spread_components): Likewise. * tree-ssa-dse.c (initialize_ao_ref_for_dse, valid_ao_ref_for_dse): Likewise. * tree-call-cdce.c (shrink_wrap_one_built_in_call_with_conds): Likewise. * dwarf2out.c (dwarf2out_early_finish): Likewise. * gimple-ssa-store-merging.c: Likewise. * ira-costs.c (record_operand_costs): Likewise. * tree-vect-loop.c (vectorizable_reduction): Likewise. * target.def (dispatch): Likewise. 2020-01-22cfgexpand: Update partition size when merging variablesRichard Sandiford1-0/+3
cfgexpand sorts variables by decreasing size, so when merging a later variable into an earlier one, there's usually no need to update the merged size. But for poly_int sizes, the sort function just uses a lexicographical comparison of the coefficients, so e.g. 2X+2 comes before 0X+32. Which is bigger depends on the runtime value of X. This patch therefore takes the upper bound of the two sizes, which is conservatively correct for variable-length vectors and a no-op on other targets. It's probably a bad idea to merge fixed-length and variable-length variables in practice, but that's really an optimisation decision. I think we should have this patch as a correctness fix either way. This is easiest to test using the ACLE, but in principle it could happen for autovectorised code too, e.g. when using OpenMP vector variables. It's therefore a regression from GCC 8. 2020-01-22 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * cfgexpand.c (union_stack_vars): Update the size. gcc/testsuite/ * gcc.target/aarch64/sve/acle/general/stack_vars_1.c: New test.

2019-12-03Mark constant-sized objects as addressable if they have poly-int accessesRichard Sandiford1-0/+15
If SVE code is written for a specific vector length, it might load from or store to fixed-sized objects. This needs to work even without -msve-vector-bits=N (which should never be needed for correctness). There's no way of handling a direct poly-int sized reference to a fixed-size register; it would have to go via memory. And in that case it's more efficient to mark the fixed-size object as addressable from the outset, like we do for array references with non-constant indices. 2019-12-03 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * cfgexpand.c (discover_nonconstant_array_refs_r): If an access with POLY_INT_CST size is made to a fixed-size object, force the object to live in memory. gcc/testsuite/ * gcc.target/aarch64/sve/acle/general/deref_1.c: New test. 2019-10-01Remove clobber_highRichard Sandiford1-1/+0
The AArch64 SVE tlsdesc patterns were the main motivating reason for clobber_high. It's no longer needed now that the patterns use calls instead. At the time, one of the possible future uses for clobber_high was for asm statements. However, the current code wouldn't handle that case without modification, so I think we might as well remove it for now. We can always reapply it in future if it turns out to be useful again. 2019-10-01 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ * rtl.def (CLOBBER_HIGH): Delete. * doc/rtl.texi (clobber_high): Remove documentation. * rtl.h (SET_DEST): Remove CLOBBER_HIGH from the list of codes. 2019-09-05Force IFN_LOAD/STORE_LANES operands to be memory (PR91577)Richard Sandiford1-4/+21
This patch uses the workaround Richi suggested in the PR: make discover_nonconstant_array_refs mark the source of an IFN_LOAD_LANES call and the destination of an IFN_STORE_LANES call as addressable, so that they don't end up being REG rtxes during expansion. I had to move the discover_nonconstant_array_refs call outside the currently_expanding_to_rtl block since otherwise mark_addressable just queues the decision for later. 2019-09-05 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ PR middle-end/91577 * cfgexpand.c (discover_nonconstant_array_refs): Force the source of an IFN_LOAD_LANES call and the destination of an IFN_STORE_LANES call to be in memory.
