In case of high register pressure in PIC mode, address of the stack
protector's guard can be spilled on ARM targets as shown in PR85434,
thus allowing an attacker to control what the canary would be compared
against. This is also known as CVE-2018-12886. ARM does lack
stack_protect_set and stack_protect_test insn patterns, defining them
does not help as the address is expanded regularly and the patterns
only deal with the copy and test of the guard with the canary.
This problem does not occur for x86 targets because the PIC access and
the test can be done in the same instruction. Aarch64 is exempt too
because PIC access insn pattern are mov of UNSPEC which prevents it from
the second access in the epilogue being CSEd in cse_local pass with the
first access in the prologue.
The approach followed here is to create new "combined" set and test
standard pattern names that take the unexpanded guard and do the set or
test. This allows the target to use an opaque pattern (eg. using UNSPEC)
to hide the individual instructions being generated to the compiler and
split the pattern into generic load, compare and branch instruction
after register allocator, therefore avoiding any spilling. This is here
implemented for the ARM targets. For targets not implementing these new
standard pattern names, the existing stack_protect_set and
stack_protect_test pattern names are used.
To be able to split PIC access after register allocation, the functions
had to be augmented to force a new PIC register load and to control
which register it loads into. This is because sharing the PIC register
between prologue and epilogue could lead to spilling due to CSE again
which an attacker could use to control what the canary gets compared
against.

When compiling guality/vla-1.c with -O3 -g, vla a in f1 is optimized away, but
f1 still contains a debug expression describing the upper bound of the vla
(D.1914):
...
__attribute__((noinline))
f1 (intD.6 iD.1900)
{
<bb 2>
saved_stack.1_2 = __builtin_stack_save ();
# DEBUG BEGIN_STMT
# DEBUG D#3 => i_1(D) + 1
# DEBUG D#2 => (long intD.8) D#3
# DEBUG D#1 => D#2 + -1
# DEBUG D.1914 => (sizetype) D#1
...
Then f1 is cloned to a version f1.constprop with no parameters, eliminating
parameter i, and 'DEBUG D#3 => i_1(D) + 1' turns into 'D#3 => NULL'.
This patch fixes that by defining debug expressions for default defs of
eliminated parameters in remap_ssa_name:
...
__attribute__((noinline))
f1.constprop ()
{
intD.6 iD.1949;
<bb 3>
# DEBUG D#8 s=> iD.1900
# DEBUG iD.1949 => D#8
<bb 2>
+ # DEBUG D#6 s=> iD.1949
saved_stack.1_1 = __builtin_stack_save ();
# DEBUG BEGIN_STMT
- # DEBUG D#3 => NULL
+ # DEBUG D#3 => D#6 + 1
# DEBUG D#2 => (long intD.8) D#3
# DEBUG D#1 => D#2 + -1
# DEBUG D.1951 => (sizetype) D#1
...
Bootstrapped and reg-tested on x86_64.

There are four optabs for various forms of fused multiply-add:
fma, fms, fnma and fnms. Of these, only fma had a direct gimple
representation. For the other three we relied on special pattern-
matching during expand, although tree-ssa-math-opts.c did have
some code to try to second-guess what expand would do.
This patch removes the old FMA_EXPR representation of fma and
introduces four new internal functions, one for each optab.
IFN_FMA is tied to BUILT_IN_FMA* while the other three are
independent directly-mapped internal functions. It's then
possible to do the pattern-matching in match.pd and
tree-ssa-math-opts.c (via folding) can select the exact
FMA-based operation.
The BRIG & HSA parts are a best guess, but seem relatively simple.

We build up the input to IFN_STORE_LANES one vector at a time.
In RTL, each of these vector assignments becomes a write to
subregs of the form (subreg:VEC (reg:AGGR R)), where R is the
eventual input to the store lanes instruction. The problem is
that RTL isn't very good at tracking liveness when things are
initialised piecemeal by subregs, so R tends to end up being
live on all paths from the entry block to the store. This in
turn leads to unnecessary spilling around calls, as well as to
excess register pressure in vector loops.
This patch adds gimple clobbers to indicate the liveness of the
IFN_STORE_LANES variable and makes sure that gimple clobbers are
expanded to rtl clobbers where useful. For consistency it also
uses clobbers to mark the point at which an IFN_LOAD_LANES
variable is no longer needed.

This patch changes TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS to a poly_uint64. The value is
encoded in the 10-bit precision field and was previously always stored
as a simple log2 value. The challenge was to use this 10 bits to
encode the number of elements in variable-length vectors, so that
we didn't need to increase the size of the tree.
In practice the number of vector elements should always have the form
N + N * X (where X is the runtime value), and as for constant-length
vectors, N must be a power of 2 (even though X itself might not be).
The patch therefore uses the low 8 bits to encode log2(N) and bit
8 to select between constant-length and variable-length vectors.
Targets without variable-length vectors continue to use the old scheme.
A new valid_vector_subparts_p function tests whether a given number
of elements can be encoded. This is false for the vector modes that
represent an LD3 or ST3 vector triple (which we want to treat as arrays
of vectors rather than single vectors).
Most of the patch is mechanical; previous patches handled the changes
that weren't entirely straightforward.

Make sure that gimple and RTL IRs don't have debug markers before
labels. When we build the CFG, we move labels before any markers
appearing before them. Then, make sure we don't mistakenly
reintroduce them.

This patch changes the types of the bit offsets and sizes returned
by get_ref_base_and_extent to poly_int64.
There are some callers that can't sensibly operate on polynomial
offsets or handle cases where the offset and size aren't known
exactly. This includes the IPA devirtualisation code (since
there's no defined way of having vtables at variable offsets)
and some parts of the DWARF code. The patch therefore adds
a helper function get_ref_base_and_extent_hwi that either returns
exact HOST_WIDE_INT bit positions and sizes or returns a null
base to indicate failure.

This patch adds a tree representation for poly_ints. Unlike the
rtx version, the coefficients are INTEGER_CSTs rather than plain
integers, so that we can easily access them as poly_widest_ints
and poly_offset_ints.
The patch also adjusts some places that previously
relied on "constant" meaning "INTEGER_CST". It also makes
sure that the TYPE_SIZE agrees with the TYPE_SIZE_UNIT for
vector booleans, given the existing:
/* Several boolean vector elements may fit in a single unit. */
if (VECTOR_BOOLEAN_TYPE_P (type)
&& type->type_common.mode != BLKmode)
TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (type)
= size_int (GET_MODE_SIZE (type->type_common.mode));
else
TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (type) = int_const_binop (MULT_EXPR,
TYPE_SIZE_UNIT (innertype),
size_int (nunits));

Emitting markers before labels turned out to not be worth the trouble.
The markers outside BBs confuse the ebb scheduler, and they don't add
any useful information. I'll arrange for markers to be moved past
labels, even in gimple, but for now this will fix the two remaining
known problems on ia64.

This patch adds VEC_DUPLICATE_EXPR for when CONSTRUCTOR would be used
for fixed-length vectors; this is the tree equivalent of the existing

This patch completes the infrastructure for the introduction of
statement frontiers in C-family languages.
It brings in all the code remaining code needed to introduce and
transform begin stmt trees, gimple stmts, insns and notes, and
ultimately use them to generate the is_stmt column in DWARF2+ line
number tables/programs, however none of it is activated: the option
that would do so will be introduced in a subsequent patch.
This patch depends on an earlier patch with not-quite-boilerplate
changes towards SFN.

This patch adjusts numerous parts of the compiler that would
malfunction should they find debug markers at points where they may be
introduced. The changes purport to allow the compiler to pass
bootstrap-debug-lean (-fcompare-debug in stage3) at various
optimization levels, as well as bootstrap-debug-lib (-fcompare-debug
for target libraries), even after the compiler is changed so that
debug markers are introduced in code streams at spots where earlier
debug stmts, insns and notes wouldn't normally appear.
This patch depends on an earlier SFN boilerplate patch, and on another
SFN patch that introduces new RTL insn-walking functions.

This patch introduces a number of new macros and functions that will
be used to distinguish between different kinds of debug stmts, insns
and notes, namely, preexisting debug bind ones and to-be-introduced
nonbind markers.
In a seemingly mechanical way, it adjusts several uses of the macros
and functions, so that they refer to narrower categories when
appropriate.
These changes, by themselves, should not have any visible effect in
the compiler behavior, since the upcoming debug markers are never
created with this patch alone.

I took the documentation of the FRAME_GROWS_DOWNWARD behaviour from the
version that was in most header files, since the one in the manual seemed
less clear.
The patch deliberately keeps FIRST_PARM_OFFSET(FNDECL) in
microblaze_starting_frame_offset; this seems to be a port-local
convention and takes advantage of the fact that FIRST_PARM_OFFSET
doesn't read FNDECL.

This patch is like the earlier GET_MODE_UNIT_SIZE one,
but for precisions rather than sizes. There is one behavioural
change in expand_debug_expr: we shouldn't use lowpart subregs
for non-scalar truncations, since that would just reinterpret
some of the scalars and drop the rest. (This probably doesn't
trigger in practice.) Using TRUNCATE is fine for scalars,
since simplify_gen_unary knows when a subreg can be used.

https://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/managed/4d/2a/control-flow-enforcement-technology-preview.pdf
A proposal is to introduce a target independent flag
-fcf-protection=[none|branch|return|full] with a semantic to
instrument a code to control validness or integrity of control-flow
transfers using jump and call instructions. The main goal is to detect
and block a possible malware execution through transfer the execution
to unknown target address. Implementation could be either software or
target based. Any target platforms can provide their implementation
for instrumentation under this option.
The compiler should instrument any control-flow transfer points in a
program (ex. call/jmp/ret) as well as any landing pads, which are
targets of control-flow transfers.
A new 'nocf_check' attribute is introduced to provide hand tuning
support. The attribute directs the compiler to skip a call to a
function and a function's landing pad from instrumentation. The
attribute can be used for function and pointer to function types,
otherwise it will be ignored.
Currently all platforms except i386 will report the error and do no
instrumentation. i386 will provide the implementation based on a
specification published by Intel for a new technology called
Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET).

Previously VECTOR_CST_NELTS (t) read the number of elements from
TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS (TREE_TYPE (t)). There were two ways of handling
this with variable TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS: either forcibly convert the
number to a constant (which is doable) or store the number directly
in the VECTOR_CST. The latter seemed better, since it involves less
pointer chasing and since the tree_node u field is otherwise unused
for VECTOR_CST. It would still be easy to switch to the former in
future if we need to free up the field for someting else.
The patch also changes various bits of VECTOR_CST code to use
VECTOR_CST_NELTS instead of TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS when iterating
over VECTOR_CST_ELTs. Also, when the two are checked for equality,
the patch prefers to read VECTOR_CST_NELTS (which must be constant)
and check against TYPE_VECTOR_SUBPARTS, instead of the other way
around.

PR82045 is about a bootstrap failure on sparc-sun-solaris2.11.
The problem was that we were passing the new machine_mode wrapper
classes through "..." to emit_library_call(_value), which then
read them back as ints instead.
The simplest fix seemed to be replace "..." with an array of
rtx_mode_ts, then provide wrappers for the common cases. This
bulks out rtl.h a bit, but it does make things a bit more typesafe.

This patch adds a scalar_mode class that can hold any scalar mode,
specifically:
- scalar integers
- scalar floating-point values
- scalar fractional modes
- scalar accumulator modes
- pointer bounds modes
To start with this patch uses this type for GET_MODE_INNER.
Later patches add more uses.

This patch changes the types of various things from machine_mode
to scalar_int_mode, in cases where (after previous patches)
simply changing the type is enough on its own. The patch does
nothing other than that.

This patch adds asserting as_a <scalar_int_mode> conversions
to contexts in which the input is known to be a scalar integer mode.
In expand_divmod, op1 is always a scalar_int_mode if
op1_is_constant (but might not be otherwise).
In expand_binop, the patch reverses a < comparison in order to
avoid splitting a long line.
