2021-12-17attribs: Fix wrong error with -Wno-attribute=A::b [PR103649]Marek Polacek1-1/+27
My patch to implement -Wno-attribute=A::b caused a bogus error when parsing [[foo::bar(1, 2)]]; when -Wno-attributes=foo::bar was specified on the command line, because when we create a fake foo::bar attribute and insert it into our attribute table, it is created with max_length == 0 which doesn't allow any args. That is wrong -- we know nothing about the attribute, so we shouldn't require any specific number of arguments. And since unknown attributes can be rather complex (see for example omp::{directive,sequence}), we must skip parsing their arguments. To that end, I'm using max_length with value -2. Also let's not warn about things like [[vendor::assume(true)]]; because they may have some meaning (this is reminiscent of C++ Portable Assumptions). PR c/103649 gcc/ChangeLog: * attribs.c (handle_ignored_attributes_option): Create the fake attribute with max_length == -2. (attribute_ignored_p): New overloads. * attribs.h (attribute_ignored_p): Declare them. * tree-core.h (struct attribute_spec): Document that max_length can be -2. gcc/c/ChangeLog: * c-decl.c (c_warn_unused_attributes): Don't warn for attribute_ignored_p. * c-parser.c (c_parser_std_attribute): Skip parsing of the attribute arguments when the attribute is ignored. gcc/cp/ChangeLog: * parser.c (cp_parser_declaration): Don't warn for attribute_ignored_p. 2021-12-16pragma: respect pragma in lambda functionsMartin Liska1-1/+2
In g:01ad8c54fdca we started supporting target pragma changes that are primarily caused by optimization option. The same can happen in the opposite way and we need to check for changes both in optimization_current_node and target_option_current_node. PR c++/103696 gcc/ChangeLog: * attribs.c (decl_attributes): Check if target_option_current_node is changed. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: * g++.target/i386/pr103696.C: New test.
2021-12-12pragma: Update target option node when optimization changes [PR103515]Kewen Lin1-1/+12
For a function with optimize pragma, it's possible that the target options change as optimization options change. Now we create one optimization option node when optimize pragma parsing, but don't create target option node for possible target option changes. It makes later processing not detect the target options can actually change and further doesn't update the target options accordingly. This patch is to check whether target options have changed when creating one optimization option node for pragma optimize, and make one target option node if needed. The associated test case shows the difference. Without this patch, the function foo1 will perform unrolling which is unexpected. The reason is that flag unroll_only_small_loops isn't correctly set for it. The value is updated after parsing function foo2, but doesn't get restored later since both decls don't have DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET set and the hook thinks we don't need to switch. With this patch, there is no unrolling for foo1, which is also consistent with the behavior by replacing pragma by attribute whether w/ and w/o this patch. As Martin noted, this change does the similar thing like what his previous commit r12-1039 did. gcc/ChangeLog: PR target/103515 * attribs.c (decl_attributes): Check if target options change and create one node if so. gcc/testsuite/ChangeLog: PR target/103515 * gcc.target/powerpc/pr103515.c: New test.
2021-12-03x86: Speed up target attribute handling by using a cacheJakub Jelinek1-1/+1
The target attribute handling is very expensive and for the common case from x86intrin.h where many functions get implicitly the same target attribute, we can speed up compilation a lot by caching it. The following patches both create a single entry cache, where they cache for a particular target attribute argument list the resulting DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET and DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_OPTIMIZATION values from ix86_valid_target_attribute_p and use the cache if the args are the same as last time and we start either from NULL values of those, or from the recorded values for those from last time. Compiling a simple: #include <x86intrin.h> int i; testcase with ./cc1 -quiet -O2 -isystem include/ test.c takes on my WS without the patches ~0.392s and with either of the patches ~0.182s, i.e. roughly half the time as before. For ./cc1plus -quiet -O2 -isystem include/ test.c it is slightly worse, the speed up is from ~0.613s to ~0.403s. The difference between the 2 patches is that the first one uses copy_list while the second one uses a vec, so I think the second one has the advantage of creating less GC garbage. I've verified both patches achieve the same content of those DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET and DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_OPTIMIZATION nodes as before on x86intrin.h by doing debug_tree on those and comparing the stderr from without these patches to with these patches. 2021-12-03 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> * attribs.h (simple_cst_list_equal): Declare. * attribs.c (simple_cst_list_equal): No longer static. * config/i386/i386-options.c (target_attribute_cache): New variable. (ix86_valid_target_attribute_p): Cache DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_TARGET and DECL_FUNCTION_SPECIFIC_OPTIMIZATION based on args.
2021-11-24attribs: Fix ICEs on attributes starting with _ [PR103365]Jakub Jelinek1-7/+2
As the patch shows, we have quite a few asserts that we don't call lookup_attribute etc. with attr_name that starts with an underscore, to make sure nobody is trying to call it with non-canonicalized attribute name like "__cold__" instead of "cold". We canonicalize only attributes that start with 2 underscores and end with 2 underscores though. Before Marek's patch, that wasn't an issue, we had no attributes like "_foo" or "__bar_" etc., so lookup_scoped_attribute_spec would always return NULL for those and we wouldn't try to register them, look them up etc., just with -Wattributes would warn about them. But now, as the new testcases show, users can actually request such attributes to be ignored, and we ICE for those during register_scoped_attribute and when that is fixed, ICE later on when somebody uses those attributes because they will be looked up to find out that they should be ignored. So, the following patch instead of or in addition to, depending on how performance sensitive a particular spot is, checking that attribute doesn't start with underscore allows attribute names that start with underscore as long as it doesn't canonicalize (i.e. doesn't start and end with 2 underscores). In addition to that, I've noticed lookup_attribute_by_prefix was calling get_attribute_name twice unnecessarily, and 2 tests were running in c++98 mode with -std=c++98 -std=c++11 which IMHO isn't useful because -std=c++11 testing is done too when testing all language versions. 2021-11-24 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR middle-end/103365 * attribs.h (lookup_attribute): Allow attr_name to start with underscore, as long as canonicalize_attr_name returns false. 2021-11-10attribs: Implement -Wno-attributes=vendor::attr [PR101940]Marek Polacek1-4/+123
It is desirable for -Wattributes to warn about e.g. [[deprecate]] void g(); // typo, should warn However, -Wattributes also warns about vendor-specific attributes (that's because lookup_scoped_attribute_spec -> find_attribute_namespace finds nothing), which, with -Werror, causes grief. We don't want the -Wattributes warning for [[company::attr]] void f(); GCC warns because it doesn't know the "company" namespace; it only knows the "gnu" and "omp" namespaces. We could entirely disable warning about attributes in unknown scopes but then the compiler would also miss typos like [[company::attrx]] void f(); or [[gmu::warn_used_result]] int write(); so that is not a viable solution. A workaround is to use a #pragma: #pragma GCC diagnostic push #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored "-Wattributes" [[company::attr]] void f() {} #pragma GCC diagnostic pop but that's a mouthful and awkward to use and could also hide typos. In fact, any macro-based solution doesn't seem like a way forward. This patch implements -Wno-attributes=, which takes these arguments: company::attr company:: This option should go well with using @file: the user could have a file containing -Wno-attributes=vendor::attr1,vendor::attr2 and then invoke gcc with '@attrs' or similar. I've also added a new pragma which has the same effect: The pragma along with the new option should help with various static analysis tools. 2021-04-15c++: Tweak merging of vector attributes that affect type identity [PR98852]Richard Sandiford1-0/+23
<arm_neon.h> types are distinct from GNU vector types in at least their mangling. However, there used to be nothing explicit in the VECTOR_TYPE itself to indicate the difference: we simply treated them as distinct TYPE_MAIN_VARIANTs. This caused problems like the ones reported in PR95726. The fix for that PR was to add type attributes to the <arm_neon.h> types, in order to maintain the distinction between them and GNU vectors. However, this in turn caused PR98852, where cp_common_type would merge the type attributes from the two source types and attach the result to the common type. For example: unsigned vector with no attribute + signed vector with attribute X would get converted to: unsigned vector with attribute X That isn't what we want in this case, since X describes the mangling of the original type. But even if we dropped the mangling from X and worked it out from context, we would still have a situation in which the common type was provably distinct from both of the source types: it would take its <arm_neon.h>-ness from one side and its signedness from the other. I guess there are other cases where the common type doesn't match either side, but I'm not sure it's the obvious behaviour here. It's also different from GCC 10.1 and earlier, where the unsigned vector “won” in its original form. This patch instead merges only the attributes that don't affect type identity. For now I've restricted it to vector types, since we're so close to GCC 11, but it might make sense to use this elsewhere. I've tried to audit the C and target-specific attributes to look for other types that might be affected by this, but I couldn't see any. The closest was s390_vector_bool, but the handler for that attribute changes the type node and drops the attribute itself (*no_add_attrs = true). gcc/ PR c++/98852 * attribs.h (restrict_type_identity_attributes_to): Declare. * attribs.c (restrict_type_identity_attributes_to): New function. gcc/cp/ PR c++/98852 * typeck.c (merge_type_attributes_from): New function. 2021-04-15c: Don't drop vector attributes that affect type identity [PR98852]Richard Sandiford1-0/+54
However, this in turn caused PR98852, where c_common_type would unconditionally drop the attributes on the source types. This meant that: <arm_neon.h> vector + <arm_neon.h> vector had a GNU vector type rather than an <arm_neon.h> vector type. See https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=96377#c2 for Jakub's analysis of the history of this c_common_type code. TBH I'm not sure which case the build_type_attribute_variant code is handling, but I think we should at least avoid dropping attributes that affect type identity. I've tried to audit the C and target-specific attributes to look for other types that might be affected by this, but I couldn't see any. We are only dealing with: gcc_assert (code1 == VECTOR_TYPE || code1 == COMPLEX_TYPE || code1 == FIXED_POINT_TYPE || code1 == REAL_TYPE || code1 == INTEGER_TYPE); which excludes most affects_type_identity attributes. The closest was s390_vector_bool, but the handler for that attribute changes the type node and drops the attribute itself (*no_add_attrs = true). I put the main list handling into a separate function (remove_attributes_matching) because a later patch will need it for something else. gcc/ PR c/98852 * attribs.h (affects_type_identity_attributes): Declare. * attribs.c (remove_attributes_matching): New function. 2020-04-23attribs: Don't diagnose attribute exclusions during error recovery [PR94705]Jakub Jelinek1-1/+2
On the following testcase GCC ICEs, because last_decl is error_mark_node, and diag_attr_exclusions assumes that if it is not NULL, it must be a decl. The following patch just doesn't diagnose attribute exclusions if the other decl is erroneous (and thus we've already reported errors for it). 2020-04-23 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> PR c/94705 * attribs.c (decl_attribute): Don't diagnose attribute exclusions if last_decl is error_mark_node or has such a TREE_TYPE. * gcc.dg/pr94705.c: New test.

2019-11-25Properly handle C2x attributes on types.Joseph Myers1-15/+0
attribs.c has code to ignore all scoped attributes appertaining to types except when they are part of the definition of that type. I think the premise of that code is incorrect, and its presence is a bug; such attributes are clearly valid in both C and C++, which explicitly specify that attributes in certain syntactic positions appertain to a particular type, only for that use of that type and not for other uses of the same type specifiers without that attribute specified, and while the standard attributes in C2x aren't relevant in such contexts, some gnu:: attributes certainly are. Where some attributes are invalid on some types in such contexts, that's a matter for the individual attribute handlers to diagnose (or the front end if the requirements on a standard attribute in the standard are more strict than those of a handler shared with a GNU attribute). Thus, this patch removes the bogus code to allow such attributes to be used. Doing so (and adding tests for attributes in such positions) shows up that the logic in the C front end for creating the c_declarator structures for such attributes put them in the wrong place relative to the structures for function and array types, and the logic for postfix attributes on a list of declaration specifiers failed to handle some cases, so those bugs are also fixed in this patch. Bootstrapped with no regressions for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. gcc: * attribs.c (decl_attributes): Do not ignore C++11 attributes on types. gcc/c: * c-tree.h (struct c_declarator): Use a structure for id member. * c-decl.c (grokdeclarator): Extract attributes from cdk_id declarators at the start, not when handling individual declarators later. 2019-08-13Protect some checks of DECL_FUNCTION_CODERichard Sandiford1-0/+1
This patch protects various uses of DECL_FUNCTION_CODE that didn't obviously check for BUILT_IN_NORMAL first (either directly or in callers). They could therefore trigger for functions that either aren't built-ins or are a different kind of built-in. Also, the patch removes a redundant GIMPLE_CALL check from optimize_stdarg_builtin, since it gave the impression that the stmt was less well checked than it actually is. 2019-08-13 Richard Sandiford <richard.sandiford@arm.com> gcc/ PR middle-end/91421 * attribs.c (decl_attributes): Check the DECL_BUILT_IN_CLASS before the DECL_FUNCTION_CODE. * calls.c (maybe_warn_alloc_args_overflow): Use fndecl_built_in_p to check for a BUILT_IN_ALLOCA call. * ipa-cp.c (ipa_get_indirect_edge_target_1): Likewise for BUILT_IN_UNREACHABLE. 2019-07-18-Wmissing-attributes: check that we avoid duplicates and false positivesAlexandre Oliva1-4/+10
The initial patch for PR 81824 fixed various possibilities of -Wmissing-attributes reporting duplicates and false positives. The test that avoided them was a little obscure, though, so this patch rewrites it into a more self-evident form. 2018-08-20Add support for grouping of related diagnostics (PR other/84889)David Malcolm1-1/+2
We often emit logically-related groups of diagnostics. A relatively simple case is this: if (warning_at (body_loc, OPT_Wmultistatement_macros, "macro expands to multiple statements")) inform (guard_loc, "some parts of macro expansion are not guarded by " "this %qs clause", guard_tinfo_to_string (keyword)); where the "note" diagnostic issued by the "inform" call is guarded by the -Wmultistatement_macros warning. More complicated examples can be seen in the C++ frontend, where e.g. print_z_candidates can lead to numerous "note" diagnostics being emitted. I'm looking at various ways to improve how we handle such related diagnostics, but, prior to this patch, there was no explicit relationship between these diagnostics: the diagnostics subsystem had no way of "knowing" that these were related. This patch introduces a simple way to group the diagnostics: an auto_diagnostic_group class: all diagnostics emitted within the lifetime of an auto_diagnostic_group instance are logically grouped. Hence in the above example, the two diagnostics can be grouped by simply adding an auto_diagnostic_group instance: auto_diagnostic_group d; if (warning_at (body_loc, OPT_Wmultistatement_macros, "macro expands to multiple statements")) inform (guard_loc, "some parts of macro expansion are not guarded by " "this %qs clause", guard_tinfo_to_string (keyword)); Some more awkard cases are of the form: if (some_condition && warning_at (...) && more_conditions) inform (...); which thus need restructuring to: if (some_condition) { auto_diagnostic_group d; warning_at (...); if (more_conditions) inform (...); } so that the lifetime of the auto_diagnostic_group groups the warning_at and the inform call. Nesting is handled by simply tracking a nesting depth within the diagnostic_context.: all diagnostics are treated as grouped until the final auto_diagnostic_group is popped. diagnostic.c uses this internally, so that all diagnostics are part of a group - those that are "by themselves" are treated as being part of a group with one element. The diagnostic_context gains optional callbacks for displaying the start of a group (when the first diagnostic is emitted within it), and the end of a group (for when the group was non-empty); these callbacks are unused by default, but a test plugin demonstrates them (and verifies that the machinery is working). As noted above, I'm looking at various ways to use the grouping to improve how we output the diagnostics. FWIW, I experimented with a more involved implementation, of the form: diagnostic_group d; if (d.warning_at (body_loc, OPT_Wmultistatement_macros, "macro expands to multiple statements")) d.inform (guard_loc, "some parts of macro expansion are not guarded by " "this %qs clause", guard_tinfo_to_string (keyword)); which had the advantage of allowing auto-detection of the places where groups were needed (by converting ::warning_at's return type to bool), but it was a much more invasive patch, especially when dealing with the places in the C++ frontend that can emit numerous notes after an error or warning (and thus having to pass the group around) Hence I went with this simpler approach. gcc/c-family/ChangeLog: PR other/84889 * c-attribs.c (common_handle_aligned_attribute): Add auto_diagnostic_group instance. * c-indentation.c (warn_for_misleading_indentation): Likewise. * c-opts.c (c_common_post_options): Likewise. * c-warn.c (warn_logical_not_parentheses): Likewise.
