2024-04-25gdb: remove gdbcmd.hSimon Marchi1-32/+0
Most files including gdbcmd.h currently rely on it to access things actually declared in cli/cli-cmds.h (setlist, showlist, etc). To make things easy, replace all includes of gdbcmd.h with includes of cli/cli-cmds.h. This might lead to some unused includes of cli/cli-cmds.h, but it's harmless, and much faster than going through the 170 or so files by hand. This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.

2021-10-09[gdb] Make execute_command_to_string return string on throwTom de Vries1-3/+9
The pattern for using execute_command_to_string is: ... std::string output; output = execute_fn_to_string (fn, term_out); ... This results in a problem when using it in a try/catch: ... try { output = execute_fn_to_string (fn, term_out) } catch (const gdb_exception &e) { /* Use output. */ } ... If an expection was thrown during execute_fn_to_string, then the output remains unassigned, while it could be worthwhile to known what output was generated by gdb before the expection was thrown. Fix this by returning the string using a parameter instead: ... execute_fn_to_string (output, fn, term_out) ... Also add a variant without string parameter, to support places where the function is used while ignoring the result: ... execute_fn_to_string (fn, term_out) ... Tested on x86_64-linux.
2021-09-27gdb: remove duplicate cmd_list_element declarationsAndrew Burgess1-104/+1
For some reason we have two locations where cmd_list_elements are declared, cli/cli-cmds.h and gdbcmd.h. Worse still there is duplication between these two locations. In this commit I have moved all of the cmd_list_element declarations from gdbcmd.h into cli/cli-cmds.h and removed the duplicates. There should be no user visible changes after this commit.
2021-09-09[gdb/testsuite] Reimplement gdb.gdb/complaints.exp as unittestTom de Vries1-7/+19
When building gdb with "-Wall -O2 -g -flto=auto", I run into: ... (gdb) call clear_complaints()^M No symbol "clear_complaints" in current context.^M (gdb) FAIL: gdb.gdb/complaints.exp: clear complaints ... The problem is that lto has optimized away the clear_complaints function and consequently the selftest doesn't work. Fix this by reimplementing the selftest as a unit test. Factor out two new functions: - void execute_fn_to_ui_file (struct ui_file *file, std::function<void(void)> fn); - std::string execute_fn_to_string (std::function<void(void)> fn, bool term_out); and use the latter to capture the complaints output. Tested on x86_64-linux.

The function execute_command_to_string had two header comments, one in gdbcmd.h and one in top.c. This commit merges the two comments into one and places this comment in gdbcmd.h. 2019-04-27Have 'thread|frame apply' style their output.Philippe Waroquiers1-1/+6
'thread|frame apply CMD' launches CMD so that CMD output goes to a string_file. This patch ensures that string_file for such CMD output contains style escape sequences that 'thread|frame apply' will later on output on the real terminal, so as to have CMD output properly styled. The idea is to have the class ui_file having overridable methods to indicate that the output to this ui_file should be done using 'terminal' behaviour such as styling. Then these methods are overriden in string_file so that a specially constructed string_file will get output with style escape sequences. After this patch, the output of CMD by thread|frame apply CMD is styled similarly as when CMD is launched directly. Note that string_file (term_out true) could also support wrapping, but this is not done (yet?). This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

I think it would make more sense if the types and function declarations related to command lines were in cli-script.h rather than defs.h, since the related function definitions are in cli-script.c. I had to add a few includes here and there. I also had to rename the "lines" parameter of command_lines_deleter::operator(), because ncurses has a "#define lines ..." that was interfering when cli-script.h is included by some TUI source files that also include ncurses header files. gdb/ChangeLog: * cli/cli-script.h (enum misc_command_type): Move from defs.h. Now, GDB is able to dynamically create i386-linux target descriptions from features, instead of using pre-generated target descriptions. These pre-generated target descriptions are no longer used by GDB (note that they are still used by GDBserver).
