2024-09-28[gdb/symtab] Dump m_all_parents_map for verbose debug dwarf-readTom de Vries1-2/+7
[ This is based on "[gdb/symtab] Add parent_map::dump" [1]. ] When building the cooked index, gdb builds up a parent map. This map is currently only visible at user level through the effect of using it, but it's useful to be able to inspect it as well. Add dumping of this parent map for "set debug dwarf-read 2". As example, take test-case gdb.dwarf2/enum-type-c++.exp with target board debug-types. The parent map looks like: ... $ gdb -q -batch \ -iex "maint set worker-threads 0" \ -iex "set debug dwarf-read 2" \ outputs/gdb.dwarf2/enum-type-c++/enum-type-c++ ... [dwarf-read] print_stats: Final m_all_parents_map: map start: 0x0000000000000000 0x0 0x0000000000000037 0x20f27d30 (0x36: ec) 0x0000000000000051 0x0 0x000000000000008b 0x20f27dc0 (0x8a: A) 0x00000000000000a6 0x0 ... There's no parent entry at address 0xd6, which is part of what causes this: ... (gdb) FAIL: gdb.dwarf2/enum-type-c++.exp: val1 has a parent ... With the series containing the proposed fix applied [2], we get instead: ... [dwarf-read] print_stats: Final m_all_parents_map: map start: 0x0000000000000000 0x0 0x0000000000000026 0x7e0bdc0 (0x25: ns) 0x0000000000000036 0x0 0x0000000000000037 0x7e0bdf0 (0x36: ns::ec) 0x0000000000000051 0x0 0x000000000000007f 0x7e0be80 (0x7e: ns) 0x000000000000008a 0x0 0x000000000000008b 0x7e0beb0 (0x8a: ns::A) 0x00000000000000a6 0x0 0x00000000000000cc 0x7e0bf10 (0xcb: ns) 0x00000000000000d4 0x7e0bf40 (0xd3: ns::A) 0x00000000000000dc 0x7e0bf10 (0xcb: ns) 0x00000000000000dd 0x7e0bf40 (0xd3: ns::A) 0x00000000000000f6 0x0 ... and find at 0xd6 parent ns::A. 2024-08-29gdb: include gdbsupport/gdb_obstack.h in addrmap.hSimon Marchi1-1/+2
This header file uses auto_obstack, found in gdbsupport/gdb_obstack.h. This fixes an error shown when editing addrmap.h with clangd, and makes it so addrmap.h includes what it uses. Change-Id: I0b0c8d26638e2150fcb65c601098ed9df5a8945a
2024-04-16Add move operators for addrmapTom Tromey1-1/+18
A subsequent patch needs to move an addrmap. This patch adds the necessary support. It also changes addrmap_fixed to take a 'const' addrmap_mutable. This is fine according to the contract of addrmap_mutable; but it did require a compensating const_cast in the implementation.
2024-03-25gdb: mark addrmap classes `final`Simon Marchi1-3/+3
When building GDB with clang, I see: /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/12/../../../../include/c++/12/bits/unique_ptr.h:95:2: error: delete called on non-final 'addrmap_mutable' that has virtual functions but non-virtual destructor [-Werror,-Wdelete-non -abstract-non-virtual-dtor] 95 | delete __ptr; | ^ /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/12/../../../../include/c++/12/bits/unique_ptr.h:396:4: note: in instantiation of member function 'std::default_delete<addrmap_mutable>::operator()' requested here 396 | get_deleter()(std::move(__ptr)); | ^ /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/addrmap.c:422:14: note: in instantiation of member function 'std::unique_ptr<addrmap_mutable>::~unique_ptr' requested here 422 | auto map = std::make_unique<struct addrmap_mutable> (); | ^ Fix that by making `addrmap_mutable` final, and `addrmap_fixed` too while at it. 2024-03-21Require trivial destructor in allocate_on_obstackTom Tromey1-1/+1
This patch makes allocate_on_obstack a little bit safer, by enforcing the rule that objects allocated on an obstack must have a trivial destructor. The static assert is done in a method -- doing it inside the class itself won't work because the class is incomplete at that point.
2024-03-21Don't use virtual destructor in addrmapTom Tromey1-2/+3
The addrmap polymorphism is sort of "phony" in that there isn't really code in the tree that can be presented with either type. I haven't tried to fix this (though perhaps I may); but meanwhile it's handy for the next patch if addrmap_fixed has a trivial destructor. This patch achieves this by making the addrmap destructor non-virtual, and also making it protected so that objects of any of these types cannot be destroyed when only the base class is known.
2024-01-15Remove addrmap_fixed::set_entryTom Tromey1-43/+38
It occurred to me that there is no reason for addrmap_fixed::set_entry to exist. This patch removes it and removes the abstract virtual function from the base class. This then required a few minor changes in the DWARF reader. I consider this a type-safety improvement. Tested by rebuilding. Reviewed-By: Tom de Vries <tdevries@suse.de>
2024-01-12Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDBAndrew Burgess1-1/+1
This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.
2023-01-30gdb: provide const-correct versions of addrmap::find and addrmap::foreachSimon Marchi1-8/+26
Users of addrmap::find and addrmap::foreach that have a const addrmap should ideally receive const pointers to objects, to indicate they should not be modified. However, users that have a non-const addrmap should still receive a non-const pointer. To achieve this, without adding more virtual methods, make the existing find and foreach virtual methods private and prefix them with "do_". Add small non-const and const wrappers for find and foreach. Obviously, the const can be cast away, but if using static_cast instead of C-style casts, then the compiler won't let you cast the const away. I changed all the callers of addrmap::find and addrmap::foreach I could find to make them use static_cast. Change-Id: Ia8e69d022564f80d961413658fe6068edc71a094
2023-01-01Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDBJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script, which automated the update of the copyright year range for all source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include year 2023.
2022-06-12Use malloc for mutable addrmapsTom Tromey1-17/+6
Mutable addrmaps currently require an obstack. This was probably done to avoid having to call splay_tree_delete, but examination of the code shows that all mutable obstacks have a limited lifetime -- now it's simple to treat them as ordinary C++ objects, in some cases stack-allocating them, and have a destructor to make the needed call. This patch implements this change.
2022-06-12Remove addrmap::create_fixedTom Tromey1-6/+0
addrmap::create_fixed is just a simple wrapper for 'new', so remove it in favor of uses of 'new'.
2022-06-12Remove addrmap_create_mutableTom Tromey1-4/+0
This removes addrmap_create_mutable in favor of using 'new' at the spots where the addrmap is created.
2022-06-12Remove addrmap wrapper functionsTom Tromey1-59/+50
This removes the various addrmap wrapper functions in favor of simple method calls on the objects themselves.
2022-06-12Move addrmap classes to addrmap.hTom Tromey1-7/+118
This moves the addrmap class definitions to addrmap.h. This is safe to do now that the contents are private.
2022-04-27gdb: constify addrmap_findSimon Marchi1-1/+1
addrmap_find shouldn't need to modify the addrmap, so constify the addrmap parameter. This helps for the following patch, where getting the map of a const blockvector will return a const addrmap. Change-Id: If670e425ed013724a3a77aab7961db50366dccb2
2022-01-01Automatic Copyright Year update after running gdb/copyright.pyJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure. For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were performed by the script.
2021-08-10Generalize addrmap dumpingTom Tromey1-0/+6
While debugging another patch series, I wanted to dump an addrmap. I came up with this patch, which generalizes the addrmap-dumping code from psymtab.c and moves it to addrmap.c. psymtab.c is changed to use the new code.
2021-06-25Use gdb::function_view in addrmap_foreachTom Tromey1-8/+10
While working on the DWARF psymtab replacement, I needed addrmap_foreach to accept a gdb::function_view. This seemed like a worthwhile change on its own, so I've written it separately for submission. Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 32. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-06-25 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * dwarf2/index-write.c (struct addrmap_index_data): Add initializers. <operator()>: Declare. 2020-11-02gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issuesSimon Marchi1-3/+3
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example, there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch. So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully). One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit" anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you already need a somewhat efficient way to do this. Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke. It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it). Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't really make archeology more difficult. The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c: Fix 2019-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

2013-01-01Update years in copyright notice for the GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
Two modifications: 1. The addition of 2013 to the copyright year range for every file; 2. The use of a single year range, instead of potentially multiple year ranges, as approved by the FSF.

(BLOCKVECTOR_MAP): New accessor macro. * block.c: #include "addrmap.h" (blockvector_for_pc_sect): If the blockvector we've found has an address map, use it instead of searching the blocks. * buildsym.c: #include "addrmap.h" (pending_addrmap_obstack, pending_addrmap_interesting): New static variables. (really_free_pendings): If we have a pending addrmap, free it too. (record_block_range): New function. (make_blockvector): If we have an interesting pending addrmap, record it in the new blockvector. (start_symtab, buildsym_init): Assert that there is no pending addrmap now; we should have cleaned up any addrmaps we'd built previously. (end_symtab): If there is a pending addrmap left over that didn't get included in the blockvector, free it. * buildsym.h (struct addrmap): New forward declaration. (record_block_range): New prototype. * objfiles.c: #include "addrmap.h". (objfile_relocate): Relocate the blockvector's address map, if present. * dwarf2read.c (dwarf2_record_block_ranges): New function.
