2024-01-04Update year range in copyright notice of binutils filesAlan Modra1-2/+2
Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then updates copyright messages as follows: 1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights. 2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite files (which should have their copyright message removed). 3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes. 4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

Output sections without any input sections to initialise their flags have their flags initialised by data statements to LOAD, ALLOC, HAS_CONTENTS by default. This is wrong for .comment. Fix that by making the script initialise the section type to INFO, one of the noalloc section types. That also allows the address of .comment to be set to zero, as is usual for non-alloc sections. Also, use source_sh for all of the sourced scripts to set up make dependencies. The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently. The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit breaks building of bfp opcodes files.

The ".persistent" section is for data that should be initialized during load, but not during application reset. The ".noinit" section is for data that should not be initialized during load or application reset. Targets utilizing the elf.sc linker script template can define HAVE_{NOINIT,PERSISTENT}=yes to include the .noinit or .persistent output sections in the generated linker script. Targets with existing support for .noinit did not handle unique .noinit.* and .gnu.linkonce.n.* sections the .noinit output section, this patch also fixes that. bfd/ChangeLog: * elf.c (special_sections_g): Add .gnu.linkonce.n and .gnu.linkonce.p. 2020-08-28MSP430: Fix alignment of __*_array_start symbols in default linker scriptJozef Lawrynowicz1-0/+3
__{preinit,init,fini}_array_start symbols must be word aligned in linker scripts. If the section preceding the __*_array_start symbol has an odd size, then a NULL byte will be present between the start symbol and the .*_array section itself, when the section gets automatically word-aligned. This results in a branch to an invalid address when the CRT startup code tries to run through the functions listed in the array sections. Some MSP430 linker scripts do not align the __*_array start symbols, so this added warning will catch that problem and help the user avoid the potential incorrect execution of the program. ld/ChangeLog: * emultempl/msp430.em (input_section_exists): New. For ld -r, we generally set the VMA of sections to zero. This is done to make the output of ld -r most similar to that output by the assembler, which generally has sections starting at VMA zero. In some cases that covers for backend bugs which would mis-handle relocatable object files with non-zero section VMAs. This patch fixes a few sections that didn't have zero VMAs for ld -r. "ld -r" generally should not combine object file sections with different names. For example, "ld -r" should not combine ".text", ".text.hot" and ".text.cold" into an output ".text" section. An exception needs to be made for linker created sections, for example, branch trampoline sections that might be created even for ld -r. "ld -r" also should not define symbols in linker scripts. Any definitions are likely to conflict with those defined at final link.
