2022-05-20Rename base_breakpoint -> code_breakpointPedro Alves1-3/+3
Even after the previous patches reworking the inheritance of several breakpoint types, the present breakpoint hierarchy looks a bit surprising, as we have "breakpoint" as the superclass, and then "base_breakpoint" inherits from "breakpoint". Like so, simplified: breakpoint base_breakpoint ordinary_breakpoint internal_breakpoint momentary_breakpoint ada_catchpoint exception_catchpoint tracepoint watchpoint catchpoint exec_catchpoint ... The surprising part to me is having "base_breakpoint" being a subclass of "breakpoint". I'm just refering to naming here -- I mean, you'd expect that it would be the top level baseclass that would be called "base". Just flipping the names of breakpoint and base_breakpoint around wouldn't be super great for us, IMO, given we think of every type of *point as a breakpoint at the user visible level. E.g., "info breakpoints" shows watchpoints, tracepoints, etc. So it makes to call the top level class breakpoint. Instead, I propose renaming base_breakpoint to code_breakpoint. The previous patches made sure that all code breakpoints inherit from base_breakpoint, so it's fitting. Also, "code breakpoint" contrasts nicely with a watchpoint also being typically known as a "data breakpoint". After this commit, the resulting hierarchy looks like: breakpoint code_breakpoint ordinary_breakpoint internal_breakpoint momentary_breakpoint ada_catchpoint exception_catchpoint tracepoint watchpoint catchpoint exec_catchpoint ... ... which makes a lot more sense to me. I've left this patch as last in the series in case people want to bikeshed on the naming. "code" has a nice property that it's exactly as many letters as "base", so this patch didn't require any reindentation. :-) Change-Id: Id8dc06683a69fad80d88e674f65e826d6a4e3f66
2022-05-20Move add_location(sal) to base_breakpointPedro Alves1-3/+3
After the previous patches, only base_breakpoint subclasses use add_location(sal), so we can move it to base_breakpoint (a.k.a. base class for code breakpoints). This requires a few casts here and there, but always at spots where you can see from context what the breakpoint's type actually is. I inlined new_single_step_breakpoint into its only caller exactly for this reason. I did try to propagate more use of base_breakpoint to avoid casts, but that turned out unwieldy for this patch. 2022-03-29Unify gdb printf functionsTom Tromey1-6/+6
Now that filtered and unfiltered output can be treated identically, we can unify the printf family of functions. This is done under the name "gdb_printf". Most of this patch was written by script.
2022-01-05Change how versioned symbols are recordedTom Tromey1-35/+34
A change to BFD caused a gdb regression when using the Ada "catch exception" feature. The bug is visible when a shared library throws an exception that is caught in the main executable. This was discussed here: https://sourceware.org/pipermail/binutils/2021-July/117538.html This patch implements Alan's proposed fix, namely to use VERSYM_HIDDEN rather than the name when deciding to install a version-less symbol. The internal test case is identical to the catch_ex_std.exp that is in-tree, so I haven't added a new test. I could not make that one fail on x86-64 Linux, though. It's possible that maybe I'd have to update the system linker first, but I didn't want to try that. Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 32.
2022-01-01Automatic Copyright Year update after running gdb/copyright.pyJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure. For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were performed by the script.
2021-10-25gdb: change functions returning value contents to use gdb::array_viewSimon Marchi1-1/+1
The bug fixed by this [1] patch was caused by an out-of-bounds access to a value's content. The code gets the value's content (just a pointer) and then indexes it with a non-sensical index. This made me think of changing functions that return value contents to return array_views instead of a plain pointer. This has the advantage that when GDB is built with _GLIBCXX_DEBUG, accesses to the array_view are checked, making bugs more apparent / easier to find. This patch changes the return types of these functions, and updates callers to call .data() on the result, meaning it's not changing anything in practice. Additional work will be needed (which can be done little by little) to make callers propagate the use of array_view and reap the benefits. 2021-09-06Remove some complaints.h includesTom Tromey1-1/+0
There are a few includes of complaints.h that aren't necessary. This patch removes them. Tested by rebuilding.
2021-03-28Simplify DWARF reader initializationTom Tromey1-36/+1
Now that the quick functions are separate from the object file format, there's no need to have elfread.c push a new entry on the objfile 'qf' list. Instead, this detail can be pushed into the DWARF reader. That is what this patch implements. I wasn't sure whether lazy reading still makes sense or not. It's still only used by ELF, and only in certain situations (like vfork, I think). It may not be carrying its weight, so we may want to consider removing this in the future. Also, I'm unclear on why the various indices are only used for ELF. This seems sub-optimal. However, I haven't tried to address that here. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-28 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * elfread.c (can_lazily_read_symbols): Move to dwarf2/read.c. (elf_symfile_read): Simplify. * dwarf2/read.c (struct lazy_dwarf_reader): Move from elfread.c. (make_lazy_dwarf_reader): New function. (make_dwarf_gdb_index, make_dwarf_debug_names): Now static. 2021-03-27Don't declare elf_sym_fns_lazy_psymsTom Tromey1-2/+0
An earlier patch neglected to delete a forward declaration of elf_sym_fns_lazy_psyms. This is no longer defined. This patch removes it. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-27 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * elfread.c (elf_sym_fns_lazy_psyms): Don't declare.
2021-03-27Don't clear 'qf' in elf_symfile_readTom Tromey1-1/+0
I noticed that I forgot to make a change in my series to make it possible to attach multiple debug readers to an objfile. In one spot, elf_symfile_read still clears the 'qf' list. However, this should have been removed toward the end of that series. This patch fixes the offending spot. Tested on x86-64 Fedora 32. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-27 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * elfread.c (elf_symfile_read): Don't clear 'qf'.
2021-03-24gdb: remove current_top_target functionSimon Marchi1-7/+7
The current_top_target function is a hidden dependency on the current inferior. Since I'd like to slowly move towards reducing our dependency on the global current state, remove this function and make callers use current_inferior ()->top_target () There is no expected change in behavior, but this one step towards making those callers use the inferior from their context, rather than refer to the global current inferior. gdb/ChangeLog: * target.h (current_top_target): Remove, make callers use the current inferior instead. * target.c (current_top_target): Remove. 2021-03-20Allow multiple partial symbol readers per objfileTom Tromey1-16/+3
This patch finally changes gdb so that an objfile can have multiple sources of partial symbols (or mixed partial symbols and other kinds of indices). This is done by having each symbol reader create its own psymbol_functions object and add it to the 'qf' list in the objfile. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * xcoffread.c (xcoff_initial_scan): Create partial symtabs. * symfile.c (syms_from_objfile_1, reread_symbols): Update. * psymtab.h (make_psymbol_functions): Don't declare. * psymtab.c (make_psymbol_functions): Remove. 2021-03-20Switch objfile to hold a list of psymbol readersTom Tromey1-3/+6
This changes objfile::qf to be a forward_list, and then updates all the uses to iterate over the list. Note that there is still only ever a single element in the list; this is handled by clearing the list whenever an object is added. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * dwarf2/read.c (dwarf2_build_psymtabs): Update. * symfile.c (syms_from_objfile_1, reread_symbols): Update. * symfile-debug.c (objfile::has_partial_symbols) (objfile::find_last_source_symtab) (objfile::forget_cached_source_info) (objfile::map_symtabs_matching_filename, objfile::lookup_symbol) (objfile::print_stats, objfile::dump) (objfile::expand_symtabs_for_function) (objfile::expand_all_symtabs) (objfile::expand_symtabs_with_fullname) (objfile::map_matching_symbols) (objfile::expand_symtabs_matching) (objfile::find_pc_sect_compunit_symtab) (objfile::map_symbol_filenames) (objfile::find_compunit_symtab_by_address) (objfile::lookup_global_symbol_language) (objfile::require_partial_symbols): Update. * psymtab.c (maintenance_print_psymbols) (maintenance_info_psymtabs, maintenance_check_psymtabs): Update. * objfiles.h (struct objfile) <qf>: Now a forward_list. * objfiles.c (objfile_relocate1): Update. * elfread.c (elf_symfile_read): Update.
2021-03-20Remove sym_fns::sym_read_psymbolsTom Tromey1-29/+20
Partial symbols are read via the sym_fns::sym_read_psymbols function pointer. In order to separate the partial symbols from the objfile, this must instead be done via a virtual method on quick_symbol_functions. This patch implements this change. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * xcoffread.c (xcoff_sym_fns): Update. * symfile.h (struct sym_fns) <sym_read_psymbols>: Remove. * symfile-debug.c (objfile::has_partial_symbols): Use can_lazily_read_symbols. 2021-03-20Convert quick_symbol_functions to use methodsTom Tromey1-2/+2
This changes quick_symbol_functions to be a base class with pure virtual methods, rather than a struct holding function pointers. Then, objfile is changed to hold a unique_ptr to an instance of this class. struct psymbol_functions is put into psympriv.h, and not psymtab.c, because that is convenient later in the series. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * psympriv.h (struct psymbol_functions): New. * symfile.c (syms_from_objfile_1, reread_symbols): Update. * symfile-debug.c (objfile::find_compunit_symtab_by_address) (objfile::lookup_global_symbol_language): Update. * quick-symbol.h (struct quick_symbol_functions): Convert function pointers to methods. 2021-03-20Move sym_fns::qf to objfileTom Tromey1-40/+2
Currently the "partial" symbol reader is attached to the objfile's symbol functions. However, in order to allow multiple separate partial symbol readers, this association must be changed. This patch moves the "qf" member out of sym_fns as a step toward that goal. gdb/ChangeLog 2021-03-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * psymtab.c (require_partial_symbols): Check that 'sf' is not null. * xcoffread.c (xcoff_sym_fns): Update. * symfile.h (struct sym_fns) <qf>: Remove. * symfile.c (syms_from_objfile_1, reread_symbols): Update. * symfile-debug.c (objfile::has_partial_symbols) (objfile::find_last_source_symtab) (objfile::forget_cached_source_info) (objfile::map_symtabs_matching_filename, objfile::lookup_symbol) (objfile::print_stats, objfile::dump) (objfile::expand_symtabs_for_function) (objfile::expand_all_symtabs) (objfile::expand_symtabs_with_fullname) (objfile::map_matching_symbols) (objfile::expand_symtabs_matching) (objfile::find_pc_sect_compunit_symtab) (objfile::map_symbol_filenames) (objfile::find_compunit_symtab_by_address) (objfile::lookup_global_symbol_language, debug_sym_fns) (install_symfile_debug_logging): Update. * objfiles.h (struct objfile) <qf>: New member. * mipsread.c (ecoff_sym_fns): Update. * machoread.c (macho_sym_fns): Update. * elfread.c (elf_sym_fns_gdb_index, elf_sym_fns_debug_names): Don't declare. 2020-11-02gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issuesSimon Marchi1-2/+2
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example, there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch. So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully). One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit" anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you already need a somewhat efficient way to do this. Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke. It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it). Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't really make archeology more difficult. The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c: Fix 2020-09-19Use gdb_bfd_sections in elf_symfile_readTom Tromey1-5/+5
This changes elf_symfile_read to avoid bfd_map_over_sections, in favor of iteration. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-09-19 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * elfread.c (elf_locate_sections): Change parameters. (elf_symfile_read): Use foreach.
2020-05-19gdb: make symfile_segment_data::segment_info an std::vectorSimon Marchi1-1/+3
Change the symfile_segment_data::segment_info array to be an std::vector. No functional changes are expected. gdb/ChangeLog: * symfile.h (struct symfile_segment_data) <~symfile_segment_data>: Remove. <segment_info>: Change to std::vector. * symfile.c (default_symfile_segments): Update. * elfread.c (elf_symfile_segments): Update.
2020-05-19gdb: use std::vector to store segments in symfile_segment_dataSimon Marchi1-7/+2
Instead of maintaining two vectors, I added a small `segment` class which holds both the base address and size of one segment and replaced the two `segment_bases` and `segment_sizes` arrays with a single vector. The rest of the changes are straightforward, no behavior changes are expected. gdb/ChangeLog: * symfile.h (struct symfile_segment_data) <struct segment>: New. <segments>: New. <segment_bases, segment_sizes>: Remove. * symfile.c (default_symfile_segments): Update. * elfread.c (elf_symfile_segments): Update. * remote.c (remote_target::get_offsets): Update. * solib-target.c (solib_target_relocate_section_addresses): Update.
2020-05-19gdb: allocate symfile_segment_data with newSimon Marchi1-3/+2
- Allocate this structure with new instead of XNEW, use a unique pointer to manage its lifetime. - Change a few functions to return a unique pointer instead of a plain pointer. - Change free_symfile_segment_data to be symfile_segment_data's destructor. gdb/ChangeLog: * symfile.h (struct symfile_segment_data): Initialize fields. <~symfile_segment_data>: Add. (symfile_segment_data_up): New. (struct sym_fns) <sym_segments>: Return a symfile_segment_data_up. (default_symfile_segments): Return a symfile_segment_data_up. (free_symfile_segment_data): Remove. (get_symfile_segment_data): Return a symfile_segment_data_up. * symfile.c (default_symfile_segments): Likewise. (get_symfile_segment_data): Likewise. (free_symfile_segment_data): Remove. (symfile_find_segment_sections): Update. * elfread.c (elf_symfile_segments): Return a symfile_segment_data_up. * remote.c (remote_target::get_offsets): Update. * solib-target.c (solib_target_relocate_section_addresses): Update. * symfile-debug.c (debug_sym_segments): Return a symfile_segment_data_up.
2020-04-18Change get_objfile_arch to a method on objfileTom Tromey1-5/+5
This changes get_objfile_arch to be a new inline method, objfile::arch. To my surprise, this function came up while profiling DWARF psymbol reading. Making this change improved performance from 1.986 seconds to 1.869 seconds. Both measurements were done by taking the mean of 10 runs on a fixed copy of the gdb executable. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-04-18 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * xcoffread.c (enter_line_range, scan_xcoff_symtab): Update. * value.c (value_fn_field): Update. * valops.c (find_function_in_inferior) (value_allocate_space_in_inferior): Update. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_update_source_windows_with_line): Update. * tui/tui-source.c (tui_source_window::set_contents): Update. * symtab.c (lookup_global_or_static_symbol) (find_function_start_sal_1, skip_prologue_sal) (print_msymbol_info, find_gnu_ifunc, symbol_arch): Update. * symmisc.c (dump_msymbols, dump_symtab_1) (maintenance_print_one_line_table): Update. * symfile.c (init_entry_point_info, section_is_mapped) (list_overlays_command, simple_read_overlay_table) (simple_overlay_update_1): Update. * stap-probe.c (handle_stap_probe): Update. * stabsread.c (dbx_init_float_type, define_symbol) (read_one_struct_field, read_enum_type, read_range_type): Update. * source.c (info_line_command): Update. * python/python.c (gdbpy_source_objfile_script) (gdbpy_execute_objfile_script): Update. * python/py-type.c (save_objfile_types): Update. * python/py-objfile.c (py_free_objfile): Update. * python/py-inferior.c (python_new_objfile): Update. * psymtab.c (psym_find_pc_sect_compunit_symtab, dump_psymtab) (dump_psymtab_addrmap_1, maintenance_info_psymtabs) (maintenance_check_psymtabs): Update. * printcmd.c (info_address_command): Update. * objfiles.h (struct objfile) <arch>: New method, from get_objfile_arch. 2020-03-04Introduce objfile::internTom Tromey1-5/+1
This introduces a string cache on the per-BFD object, replacing the macro and filename caches. Both of these caches just store strings, so this consolidation by itself saves a little memory (about the size of a bcache per objfile). Then this patch switches some allocations on the objfile obstack to use this bcache instead. This saves more space; and turns out to be a bit faster as well. Here are the before and after "maint time" + "maint space" results of "file ./gdb": Command execution time: 4.664021 (cpu), 4.728518 (wall) Space used: 39190528 (+29212672 for this command) Command execution time: 4.216209 (cpu), 4.107023 (wall) Space used: 36667392 (+26689536 for this command) The main interface to the string cache is a new pair of overloaded methods, objfile::intern. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-03-04 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * symmisc.c (print_symbol_bcache_statistics) (print_objfile_statistics): Update. * symfile.c (allocate_symtab): Use intern. * psymtab.c (partial_symtab::partial_symtab): Use intern. * objfiles.h (struct objfile_per_bfd_storage) <filename_cache, macro_cache>: Remove. <string_cache>: New member. 2020-02-26Add debuginfod support to GDBAaron Merey1-1/+31
debuginfod is a lightweight web service that indexes ELF/DWARF debugging resources by build-id and serves them over HTTP. This patch enables GDB to query debuginfod servers for separate debug files and source code when it is otherwise not able to find them. GDB can be built with debuginfod using the --with-debuginfod configure option. This requires that libdebuginfod be installed and found at configure time. debuginfod is packaged with elfutils, starting with version 0.178. For more information see https://sourceware.org/elfutils/. 2020-01-13gdb: Handle malformed ELF, symbols in non-allocatable sectionsAndrew Burgess1-4/+9
I ended up debugging a malformed ELF where a section containing executable code was not correctly marked as allocatable. Before realising the ELF was corrupted I tried to place a breakpoint on a symbol in the non-allocatable, executable section, and GDB crashed. Though trying to debug such an ELF clearly isn't going to go well I would prefer, as far as possible, that any input, no matter how corrupted, not crash GDB. The crash occurs when trying to set a breakpoint on the name of a function from the corrupted section. GDB converts the symbol to a symtab_and_line, and looks up a suitable section for this. The problem is that the section is actually an obj_section, which is stored in the table within the objfile, and we only initialise this table for allocatable sections (see add_to_objfile_sections_full in objfiles.c). So, if the symbol is in a non-allocatable section then we end up referencing an uninitialised obj_section. Later we call get_sal_arch on the symtab_and_line, which calls get_objfile_arch, which uses the objfile from the uninitialised obj_section, which will be nullptr, at which point GDB crashes. The fix I propose here is that when we setup the section references on msymbols, we should check if the bfd_section being referenced is allocatable or not. If it is not then we should set the section reference back to the default 0 section (see how MSYMBOL_OBJ_SECTION and SYMBOL_OBJ_SECTION treat the 0 section index). With this fix in place GDB no longer crashes. Instead GDB creates the breakpoint at the non-allocated address, and then fails, with an error, when it tries to insert the breakpoint. gdb/ChangeLog: * elfread.c (record_minimal_symbol): Set section index to 0 for non-allocatable sections. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gdb.dwarf2/dw2-bad-elf-other.S: New file. * gdb.dwarf2/dw2-bad-elf.c: New file. * gdb.dwarf2/dw2-bad-elf.exp: New file. 2020-01-13gdb: add back declarations for _initialize functionsSimon Marchi1-1/+2
I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning. However, it warns for every _initialize function, for example: CXX dcache.o /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c: In function ‘void _initialize_dcache()’: /home/smarchi/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/dcache.c:688:1: error: no previous declaration for ‘void _initialize_dcache()’ [-Werror=missing-declarations] _initialize_dcache (void) ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The only practical way forward I found is to add back the declarations, which were removed by this commit: commit 481695ed5f6e0a8a9c9c50bfac1cdd2b3151e6c9 Author: John Baldwin <jhb@FreeBSD.org> Date: Sat Sep 9 11:02:37 2017 -0700 Remove unnecessary function prototypes. I don't think it's a big problem to have the declarations for these functions, but if anybody has a better solution for this, I'll be happy to use it. gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-fbsd-nat.c Just some code cleanup. This change has a few benefits: - Shorter argument list in the functions - If the caller needs to calculate the string, they no longer need to explicitly call strlen - It is easy to pass std::string to this (done in one place currently) This also updates a couple of places that were passing 0/1 to a bool parameter. gdb/ChangeLog: 2019-10-29 Christian Biesinger <cbiesinger@google.com> * coffread.c (record_minimal_symbol): Update. 2019-10-07gdb: CTF supportWeimin Pan1-1/+17
This patch adds the CTF (Compact Ansi-C Type Format) support in gdb. Two submissions on which this gdb work depends were posted earlier in May: * On the binutils mailing list - adding libctf which creates, updates, reads, and manipulates the CTF data. * On the gcc mailing list - expanding gcc to directly emit the CFT data with a new command line option -gt. CTF is a reduced form of debugging information whose main purpose is to describe the type of C entities such as structures, unions, typedefs and function arguments at the global scope only. It does not contain debug information about source lines, location expressions, or local variables. For more information on CTF, see the documentation in the libdtrace-ctf source tree, available here: <https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oracle/libdtrace-ctf/master/doc/ctf-format>. This patch expands struct elfinfo by adding the .ctf section, which contains CTF debugging info, and modifies elf_symfile_read() to read it. If both DWARF and CTF exist in a program, only DWARF will be read. CTF data will be read only when there is no DWARF. The two-stage symbolic reading and setting strategy, partial and full, was used. File ctfread.c contains functions to transform CTF data into gdb's internal symbol table structures by iterately reading entries from CTF sections of "data objects", "function info", "variable info", and "data types" when setting up either partial or full symbol table. If the ELF symbol table is available, e.g. not stripped, the CTF reader will associate the found type information with these symbol entries. Due to the proximity between DWARF and CTF (CTF being a much simplified subset of DWARF), some DWARF implementation was reused to support CTF. Test cases ctf-constvars.exp, ctf-cvexpr.exp, ctf-ptype.exp, and ctf-whatis.exp have been added to verify the correctness of this support. This patch has missing features and limitations which we will add and address in the future patches. gdb/ChangeLog +2019-10-07 Weimin Pan <weimin.pan@oracle.com> + + * gdb/ctfread.c: New file. + * gdb/ctfread.h: New file. + * gdb/elfread.c: Include ctfread.h. + (struct elfinfo text_p): New member ctfsect. + (elf_locate_sections): Mark CTF section. + (elf_symfile_read): Call elfctf_build_psymtabs. + * gdb/Makefile.in (LIBCTF): Add. + (CLIBS): Use it. + (CDEPS): Likewise. + (DIST): Add ctfread.c. + * Makefile.def (dependencies): Add all-libctf to all-gdb + * Makefile.in: Add "all-gdb: maybe-all-libctf" + gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog +2019-10-07 Weimin Pan <weimin.pan@oracle.com> + + * gdb.base/ctf-whatis.exp: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-whatis.c: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-ptype.exp: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-ptype.c: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-constvars.exp: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-constvars.c: New file. + * gdb.base/ctf-cvexpr.exp: New file. +
2019-10-02Handle copy relocationsTom Tromey1-5/+11
In ELF, if a data symbol is defined in a shared library and used by the main program, it will be subject to a "copy relocation". In this scenario, the main program has a copy of the symbol in question, and a relocation that tells ld.so to copy the data from the shared library. Then the symbol in the main program is used to satisfy all references. This patch changes gdb to handle this scenario. Data symbols coming from ELF shared libraries get a special flag that indicates that the symbol's address may be subject to copy relocation. I looked briefly into handling copy relocations by looking at the actual relocations in the main program, but this seemed difficult to do with BFD. Note that no caching is done here. Perhaps this could be changed if need be; I wanted to avoid possible problems with either objfile lifetimes and changes, or conflicts with the long-term (vapor-ware) objfile splitting project. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-10-02 Tom Tromey <tromey@adacore.com> * symmisc.c (dump_msymbols): Don't use MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS. * ada-lang.c (lesseq_defined_than): Handle LOC_STATIC. * dwarf2read.c (dwarf2_per_objfile): Add can_copy parameter. 2019-09-19bfd_section_* macrosAlan Modra1-12/+12
This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various bfd section macros and functions. The bfd is hardly ever used and if needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind std_section special sections. Those sections shouldn't be modified anyway. The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros, replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds bfd_set_section_lma. I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling bfd_rename_section. This would have broken bfd_get_section_by_name and similar functions, but that hardly mattered at such a late stage in gas processing. bfd/ * bfd-in.h (bfd_get_section_name, bfd_get_section_vma), (bfd_get_section_lma, bfd_get_section_alignment), (bfd_get_section_size, bfd_get_section_flags), (bfd_get_section_userdata): Delete. 2019-06-10Delay allocation of dbx_symfile_infoTom Tromey1-11/+1
I noticed that elfread.c always allocates a dbx_symfile_info, even though this is only ever needed in the unusual case of reading stabs in ELF. This patch moves the allocation into dbxread.c, and applies the same treatment to similar code in coffread.c. Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 29. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-06-10 Tom Tromey <tromey@adacore.com> * elfread.c (elf_read_minimal_symbols): Don't set the dbx objfile data. 2019-05-08Convert elfread.c to type-safe registry APITom Tromey1-10/+8
This changes elfread.c to use the type-safe registry API. 2019-05-08Convert probes to type-safe registry APITom Tromey1-24/+8
This changes the probes code in elfread.c to use the type-safe registry API. While doing this, I saw that the caller of get_probes owns the probes, so I went through the code and changed the vectors to store unique_ptrs, making the ownership relationship more clear. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-05-08 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * symfile.h (struct sym_probe_fns) <sym_get_probes>: Change type. * symfile-debug.c (debug_sym_get_probes): Change type. * stap-probe.c (handle_stap_probe): (stap_static_probe_ops::get_probes): Change type. * probe.h (class static_probe_ops) <get_probes>: Change type. * probe.c (class any_static_probe_ops) <get_probes>: Change type. 2019-04-06Revert the header-sorting patchTom Tromey1-19/+17

So, I'm reverting the patch.
