Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then updates copyright messages as follows: 1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights. 2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite files (which should have their copyright message removed). 3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes. 4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

The new Synopsys's ARCv3 ISA is capable to run either 64-bit or 32-bit ISA. The new 32-bit ISA is not compatible with the old Synopsys ARCv1/ARCv2 ISA, however, it retains a lot of common concepts. On a debug-info-enabled cc1 the effect at the time of this writing on the machine I used was going from 14400 perf samples to 9300 perf samples or from 3.7 seconds to 2.4 seconds, i.e. about 33% .

2022-11-15bfd: linker: merge .sframe sectionsIndu Bhagat1-1/+1
The linker merges all the input .sframe sections. When merging, the linker verifies that all the input .sframe sections have the same abi/arch. The linker uses libsframe library to perform key actions on the .sframe sections - decode, read, and create output data. This implies buildsystem changes to make and install libsframe before libbfd. The linker places the output .sframe section in a new segment of its own: PT_GNU_SFRAME. A new segment is not added, however, if the generated .sframe section is empty. When a section is discarded from the final link, the corresponding entries in the .sframe section for those functions are also deleted. The linker sorts the SFrame FDEs on start address by default and sets the SFRAME_F_FDE_SORTED flag in the .sframe section. This patch also adds support for generation of SFrame unwind information for the .plt* sections on x86_64. SFrame unwind info is generated for IBT enabled PLT, lazy/non-lazy PLT. The existing linker option --no-ld-generated-unwind-info has been adapted to include the control of whether .sframe unwind information will be generated for the linker generated sections like PLT. Changes to the linker script have been made as necessary. If pkgconfig/libzstd.pc is found, define HAVE_ZSTD and support zstd compressed debug sections for most tools. * bfd: for addr2line, objdump --dwarf, gdb, etc * gas: support --compress-debug-sections=zstd * ld: support ELFCOMPRESS_ZSTD input and --compress-debug-sections=zstd * objcopy: support ELFCOMPRESS_ZSTD input for --decompress-debug-sections and --compress-debug-sections=zstd * gdb: support ELFCOMPRESS_ZSTD input. The bfd change references zstd symbols, so gdb has to link against -lzstd in this patch. If zstd is not supported, ELFCOMPRESS_ZSTD input triggers an error. 2022-08-10bfd: Add support for LoongArch64 EFI (efi-*-loongarch64).Youling Tang1-0/+1
This adds support for efi-loongarch64 by virtue of adding a new PEI target pei-loongarch64. This is not a full target and only exists to support EFI at this time. This means that this target does not support relocation processing and is mostly a container format. This format has been added to elf based loongarch64 targets such that efi images can be made natively on Linux. However this target is not valid for use with gas but only with objcopy. We should't limit addresses to 32-bits for 64-bit vma, otherwise there will be "RVA truncated" error when using objcopy on loongarch64. With these changes the resulting file is recognized as an efi image. Any magic number is based on the Microsoft PE specification [1]. There is a problem with my commit 0e3c1eebb2, which replaced bfd_uint64_t with uint64_t: Some hosts typedef int64_t to long long even when long is the same size as long long. That confuses the code choosing one of "l", "ll", or "I64" for BFD_VMA_FMT, and results in warnings. Write a direct configure test for the printf int64_t style instead. This removes the last use of BFD_HOST_64BIT_LONG, so delete that. Note that the changes to configure.com are pure guesswork. PR 29348 * bfd-in.h (BFD_HOST_64BIT_LONG): Don't define. bfd_hostptr_t is defined as a type large enough to hold either a long or a pointer. It mostly appears in the coff backend code in casts. include/coff/internal.h struct internal_syment and union internal_auxent have the only uses in data structures, where comparison with include/coff/external.h and other code reveals that the type only needs to be large enough for a 32-bit integer or a pointer. That should mean replacing with uintptr_t is OK.

The specific AMDGCN models added here are a bit arbitrary, based on what we intend to initially support in GDB. This list will need to be updated in the future anyway. As discussed previously, a.out support is now quite deprecated, and in some cases removed, in both Binutils itself and NetBSD, so this legacy default makes little sense. `netbsdelf*` and `netbsdaout*` still work allowing the user to be explicit about there choice. Additionally, the configure script warns about the change as Nick Clifton requested. One possible concern was the status of NetBSD on NS32K, where only a.out was supported. But per [1] NetBSD has removed support, and if it were to come back, it would be with ELF. The binutils implementation is therefore marked obsolete, per the instructions in the last message. With that patch and this one applied, I have confirmed the following: --target=i686-unknown-netbsd --target=i686-unknown-netbsdelf builds completely --target=i686-unknown-netbsdaout properly fails because target is deprecated. --target=vax-unknown-netbsdaout builds completely except for gas, where the target is deprecated. Right now, these libraries hardwire -L../intl -lintl on a few fixed platforms, which works fine on those platforms but on other platforms leads to shared libraries that lack libintl_* symbols when configured --with-included-gettext, and/or static libraries that contain libintl as *another* static library. If we instead use the LIBINTL variable defined in ../intl/config.intl, this gives us the right thing on all three classes of platform (gettext in libc, gettext in system libintl, gettext in ../intl/libintl.a).. This also means we can rip out some Darwin-specific machinery from configure.ac and also simplify the Cygwin side. RISC-V instruction/code is always little endian, but data might be big-endian. Therefore, we can not use the original bfd_get/bfd_put to get/put the code for big endian targets. Generally, glibc dynamic linker should have two ways to deal with ifunc - one is to handle the IRELATIVE relocations for the non-preemtive ifunc symbols, the other is to handle the R_RISCV_32/64 and R_RISCV_JUMP_SLOT relocations with the STT_IFUNC preemtive symbols. No matter which method is used, both of them should get the resolved ifunc symbols at runtime. Therefore, linker needs to generate the correct dynamic relocations for ifunc to make sure the the dynamic linker works well. For now, there are thirteen relocations are supported for ifunc in GNU ld, * R_RISCV_CALL and R_RISCV_CALL_PLT: The RISC-V compiler won't generate R_RISCV_JAL directly to jump to an ifunc. Besides, we disable the relaxations for the relocation referenced to ifunc, so just handling the R_RISCV_CALL and R_RISCV_CALL_PLT should be enough. Linker should generate a .plt entry and a .got.plt entry for it, and also needs to insert a dynamic IRELATIVE in the .got.plt enrty, or insert a R_RISCV_JUMP_SLOT when generating shared library. * R_RISCV_PCREL_HI20 and R_RISCV_PCREL_LO12_I/S: LA/LLA pattern with local fPIC ifunc symbol, or any non-PIC ifunc symbol. The absolute access relocation. The medlow model without the -fPIC compiler option should generate them. The ld ifunc testsuites "Build pr23169a" and "Build pr23169d" need the relocations, they are in the ld/testsuite/ld-ifunc/, and need compiler support. However, we also made some optimizations with reference to x86, * If GOT and PLT relocations refer to the same ifunc symbol when generating pie, then they can actually share a .got entry without creating two entries to store the same value and relocation. * If GOT, PLT and DATA relocations refer to the same ifunc symbol when generating position dependency executable, then linker will fill the address of .plt entry into the corresponding .got entry and data section, without insert any dynamic relocations for the GOT and DATA relocations. For the ifunc testcases, there are three types of them, 1. ifunc-reloc-*: Only check the single type of relocation refers to ifunc symbol. * ifunc-reloc-call: R_RISCV_CALL and R_RISCV_CALL_PLT. * ifunc-reloc-data: R_RISCV_32 and R_RISCV_64. * ifunc-reloc-got: R_RISCV_GOT_HI20 and R_RISCV_PCREL_LO_I/S. * ifunc-reloc-pcrel: R_RISCV_PCREL_HI20 and R_RISCV_PCREL_LO_I/S. 2. ifunc-[nonplt|plt]-*: If we don't have PLT relocs, then don't need to create the PLT and it's .plt entries. * ifunc-nonplt: Combine R_RISCV_GOT_HI20 and R_RISCV_32/64. * ifunc-plt: Combine all ifunc relocations. 3. ifunc-seperate-*: If we link the ifunc caller and resolver into the same module (link the objects), then the results are the same as the ifunc-reloc-* and ifunc-[noplt|plt]-* testcases. Consider the cases that the ifunc callers and resolver are in the different modules, that is, we compile the ifunc resolver to the shared library first, and then link it with the ifunc callers. The output of ifunc callers should be the same as the normal STT_FUNC cases, and the shared ifunc resolver should define the symbols as STT_IFUNC. The R_RISCV_PCREL_HI20 reloc is special. It should be linked and resolved locally, so if the ifunc resolver is defined in other modules (other shared libraries), then the R_RISCV_PCREL_HI20 is unresolvable, and linker should issue an unresolvable reloc error. bfd/ * elfnn-riscv.c: Include "objalloc.h" since we need objalloc_alloc.
