This commit is the result of the following actions:
- Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
include 2024,
- Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
file,
- Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
date,
- Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If
these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
updated them this year to 2024.
I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

We've been using SIM_ADDR which has always been 32-bit. This means
the upper 32-bit address range in 64-bit sims is inaccessible. Use
64-bit addresses all the time since we want the APIs to be stable
regardless of the active arch backend (which can be 32 or 64-bit).
The length is also 64-bit because it's completely feasible to have
a program that is larger than 4 GiB in size/image/runtime. Forcing
the caller to manually chunk those accesses up into 4 GiB at a time
doesn't seem useful to anyone.

When reading/writing arbitrary data to the system's memory, the unsigned
char pointer type doesn't make that much sense. Switch it to void so we
align a bit with standard C library read/write functions, and to avoid
having to sprinkle casts everywhere.
|
|
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.
|
|
Avoid implicit include deps with this to help untangle sim headers
so we can get rid of arch-specific sim-main.h.
|
|
These cover functions aren't used anywhere, so drop them. There was
one caller, but it's old DOS code that most likely hasn't been tested
in years, so just delete that too.
|
|
The sim-basics.h is too big and includes too many things. This leads
to some arch's sim-main.h having circular loop issues with defs, and
makes it hard to separate out common objects from arch-specific defs.
By splitting up sim-basics.h and killing off sim-main.h, it'll make
it easier to separate out the two.
Start with splitting out sim/callback.h.

I finally got the all-targets sim building with Clang, these are all the
instances where an ATTRIBUTE_PRINTF or ATTRIBUTE_NULL_PRINTF attribute
needed to be added to avoid errors like:
/home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/sim/aarch64/../common/sim-profile.c:464:19: error: format string is not a string literal [-Werror,-Wformat-nonliteral]
vfprintf (fp, fmt, ap);
^~~
There are more fixes needed to get everything building, but adding these
attributes is trivial enough, so I send them all in a single patch.
Adding the format attributes introduces some format string errors when
building with GCC (because now format strings are checked), so
corresponding changes are needed to avoid breaking the build. Other
than simple format string specified changes, there is this one:
/home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/sim/aarch64/../common/hw-events.c: In function 'hw_event_queue_schedule':
/home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/sim/aarch64/../common/hw-events.c:95:15: error: too many arguments for format [-Werror=format-extra-args]
95 | NULL, dummy);
| ^~~~~
We can fix it and avoid using a dummy variable by simply calling
hw_event_queue_schedule_tracef instead of
hw_event_queue_schedule_vtracef.
sim/arm/ChangeLog:
* armdefs.h (ARMul_ConsolePrint): Use format attribute.
* wrapper.c (op_printf): Likewise.

* interp.c (sim_open): Adjust format string specifier.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.

There's no need for the prog_name handed down to the core to be mutable,
so add const markings to it and all the related funcs.

Two modifications:
1. The addition of 2013 to the copyright year range for every file;
2. The use of a single year range, instead of potentially multiple
year ranges, as approved by the FSF.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Copyright year update in most files of the GDB Project.

The sim keeps track of which allocations are zero-ed internally (via
zalloc) and then calls a helper "zfree" function rather than "free".
But this "zfree" function simply calls "free" itself. Since I can
see no point in this and it is simply useless overhead, punt it.
The only real change is in hw-alloc.c where we remove the zalloc_p
tracking, and sim-utils.c where zfree is delete. The rest of the
changes are a simple `sed` from "zfree" to "free".

Most the sim write functions declare their source buffer const because
they only ever read from it. The global sim_write() function does not
follow this convention though which causes some warnings when trying to
pass it const strings or buffers.
