2024-01-12Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDBAndrew Burgess1-1/+1
This commit is the result of the following actions: - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to include 2024, - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the file, - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright date, - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've updated them this year to 2024. I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as you spot them.
2023-07-10gdb/testsuite: Testing with the nvfortran compilerRichard Bunt1-8/+18
Currently, the Fortran test suite does not run with NVIDIA's Fortran compiler (nvfortran). The goal here is to get the tests running and preventing further regressions during future work. This change does not do anything to fix existing failures. Teach the compiler detection about nvfortran. There is no underlying information about whether this compiler is related to flang classic or flang, so we cannot reuse the main and type definitions. Therefore, we explicitly record the main method and type information observed when using nvfortran. The main name was extracted by trying to set breakpoints on both MAIN_ and MAIN__. The following mapping of test to type names was used to extract how nvfortran reports types. info-types.exp: fortran_int4, fortran_int8, fortran_real4, fortran_logical4 common-block.exp: fortran_real8 complex.exp: fortran_complex4 fortran_complex8 logical.exp: fortran_character1. Ran ptype on "c". Types defined as fortran_complex16 do not compile with nvfortran, so it was left unset. gdb.fortran regression tests run with GNU, Intel, Intel LLVM and ACfL. No regressions detected. The gdb.fortran test results with nvfortran 23.3 are as follows. Before: # of expected passes 523 # of unexpected failures 107 # of known failures 2 # of unresolved testcases 1 # of untested testcases 7 # of duplicate test names 2 After: # of expected passes 5696 # of unexpected failures 271 # of known failures 12 # of untested testcases 9 # of unsupported tests 5 As can be seen from the above, there are now considerably more passing assertions. 2022-05-31gdb/testsuite: add Fortran compiler identification to GDBCristian Sandu1-50/+50
This commit adds a separate Fortran compiler identification mechanism to the testsuite, similar to the existing one for C/C++. Before this change, the options and version for the Fortran compiler specified when running the testsuite with F90_FOR_TARGET set, was detected via its respective C compiler. So running the testsuite as make check TEST=gdb.fortran/*.exp CC_FOR_TARGET=gcc F90_FOR_TARGET=ifx or even make check TEST=gdb.fortran/*.exp F90_FOR_TARGET=ifx would use the gcc compiler inside the procedures get_compiler_info and test_compiler_info to identify compiler flags and the compiler version. This could sometimes lead to unpredictable outputs. It also limited testsuite execution to combinations where C and Fortran compiler would come from the same family of compiers (gcc/gfortran, icc/ifort, icx/ifx, clang/flang ..). This commit enables GDB to detect C and Fortran compilers independently of each other. As most/nearly all Fortran compilers have a mechanism for preprocessing files in a C like fashion we added the exact same meachnism that already existed for C/CXX. We let GDB preprocess a file with the compilers Fortran preprocessor and evaluate the preprocessor defined macros in that file. This enables GDB to properly run heterogeneous combinations of C and Fortran compilers such as CC_FOR_TARGET='gcc' and F90_FOR_TARGET='ifort' or enables one to run the testsuite without specifying a C compiler as in make check TESTS=gdb.fortran/*.exp F90_FOR_TARGET='ifx' make check TESTS=gdb.fortran/*.exp F90_FOR_TARGET='flang' On the other hand this also requires one to always specify a identification mechanism for Fortran compilers in the compiler.F90 file. We added identification for GFORTRAN, FLANG (CLASSIC and LLVM) IFX, IFORT, and ARMFLANG for now. Classic and LLVM flang were each tested with their latest releases on their respective release pages. Both get recognized by the new compiler identification and we introduced the two names flang-classic and flang-llvm to distinguish the two. While LLVM flang is not quite mature enough yet for running the testsuite we still thought it would be a good idea to include it already. For this we added a case for the fortran_main procedure. LLVM flang uses 'MAIN__' as opposed to classic flang which uses 'MAIN_' here. We did not have the possibility to test ARMFLANG - the versioning scheme here was extracted from its latest online documentation. We changed the test_compiler_info procedure to take another optional argument, the language string, which will be passed though to the get_compiler_info procedure. Passing 'f90' or 'c++' here will then trigger the C++/Fortran compiler identification within get_compiler_info. The latter procedure was extended to also handle the 'f90' argument (similarly to the already existing 'c++' one). Co-authored-by: Nils-Christian Kempke <nils-christian.kempke@intel.com>

2020-09-03Allow Flang kind printing in complex.exp,pointer-to-pointer.exp,vla-ptr-info.expAlok Kumar Sharma1-0/+28
In the test cases complex.exp,pointer-to-pointer.exp,vla-ptr-info.exp fortran.exp routines are not used, which are to determine the type/kind string. Due to this these test incorrectly fail for Flang. Now test cases are modified to use fortran.exp routines. fortran.exp file is modified to add absent routines fortran_complex8 and fortran_complex16. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog * lib/fortran.exp (fortran_complex8): New proc. 2020-05-11gdb/fortran: Allow Flang MAIN_ in Fortran testingAlok Kumar Sharma1-0/+20
Name of fortran main function for Flang compiler is MAIN_ while for gfortran it is MAIN__ . In test cases MAIN__ is hardcoded for the purpose of inserting breakpoint. New proc is added to detect main function name depending on the compiler used. Fortran specific version of runto_main named fortran_runto_main is added. This commit adds support for Flang main function, there should be no change for gfortran. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog * lib/fortran.exp (fortran_main): New Proc, handle flang MAIN_, (fortran_runto_main): New Proc, fortran version of runto_main. * gdb.fortran/array-bounds-high.exp: Handle flang MAIN_. * gdb.fortran/array-bounds.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/array-slices.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/block-data.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/charset.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/common-block.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/complex.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/derived-type-function.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/derived-type.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/info-modules.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/info-types.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/intrinsics.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/library-module.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/logical.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/max-depth.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/module.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/multi-dim.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/nested-funcs.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/print-formatted.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/print_type.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/printing-types.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/ptr-indentation.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/ptype-on-functions.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/subarray.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-alloc-assoc.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-datatypes.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-history.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-ptr-info.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-ptype-sub.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-ptype.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-sizeof.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-type.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-value-sub-arbitrary.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-value-sub-finish.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-value-sub.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/vla-value.exp: Likewise. * gdb.fortran/whatis_type.exp: Likewise. * gdb.mi/mi-var-child-f.exp: Likewise.
2020-03-04gdb.fortran: Allow Flang kind printing in fortran testingAlok Kumar Sharma1-14/+21
In lib/fortran.exp, in the helper function fortran_int4, kind parameter is expected to be printed as (kind=4) for the LLVM Fortran compiler, Flang along with gfortran. And in the helper function fortran_int8 kind parameter is expected to be printed as (kind=8). But for the Flang compiler default kind is not printed and non default kind is printed differently than gfortran as below. integer(kind=4) => integer integer(kind=8) => integer*8 real(kind=4) => real real(kind=8) => double precision complex(kind=4) => complex logical(kind=4) => logical character(kind=1) => character This commit adds support for printing of kind parameter for the Flang. There should be no change when testing with gfortran. Note: The current patch overrides earlier patch with below details. commit c3b149eb7697b376df1b3a47d0102afda389ee6d Author Alok Kumar Sharma (alokkumar.sharma@amd.com) Earlier patch was incomplete and based on assumption that flang should be changed to dump a type with kind like the way gfortan does. Later it was realized that the way flang dumps this info is not incorrect but different. And changes in gdb test framework are finalized. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: * lib/fortran.exp (fortran_int4): Handle flang kind printing. (fortran_int8): Likewise. (fortran_real4): Likewise. 2020-02-04gdb/fortran: Allow for using Flang in Fortran testingAlok Kumar Sharma1-7/+14
In lib/fortran.exp, in the helper function fortran_int4, there is currently no support for the LLVM Fortran compiler, Flang. As a result we return the default pattern 'unknown' to match against all 4-byte integer types, which causes many tests to fail. The same is true for all of the other helper functions related to finding a suitable type pattern. This commit adds support for Flang. There should be no change when testing with gfortran. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: * lib/fortran.exp (fortran_int4): Handle clang. (fortran_int8): Likewise. (fortran_real4): Likewise. 2019-08-29[gdb/testsuite] Fix gdb.fortran/info-types.exp regexpTom de Vries1-0/+12
The gdb.fortran/info-types.exp test-case passes with gcc 7 (though not on openSUSE, due to the extra debug info) and fails with gcc 4.8 and gcc 8. 2019-08-28gdb/fortran: Implement la_print_typedef for FortranAndrew Burgess1-0/+12
Implement an la_print_typedef method for Fortran, this allows 'info types' to work for Fortran. The implementation is just copied from ada_print_typedef (with the appropriate changes). To support the testing of this patch I added a new proc, fortran_character1, to lib/fortran.exp which returns a regexp to match a 1-byte character type. The regexp returned is correct for current versions of gFortran. All of the other regexp are guesses based on all of the other support procs in lib/fortran.exp, I haven't tested them myself. gdb/ChangeLog: * f-lang.c (f_language_defn): Use f_print_typedef. * f-lang.h (f_print_typedef): Declare. * f-typeprint.c (f_print_typedef): Define. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: * gdb.fortran/info-types.exp: New file. * gdb.fortran/info-types.f90: New file. * lib/fortran.exp (fortran_character1): New proc.
2019-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
