This commit is the result of the following actions:
- Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
include 2024,
- Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
file,
- Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
date,
- Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If
these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
updated them this year to 2024.
I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

Add new proc is_x86_64_m64_target and use it where appropriate.
Tested on x86_64-linux.
|
|
This changes some tests to use require with 'is_remote', rather than
an explicit test. This adds uniformity helps clean up more spots
where a test might exit early without any notification.
|
|
This changes some tests to use "require dwarf2_support".
|
|
This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.
|
|
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

[ Using $build for /home/vries/gdb_versions/devel/build to make things a bit
more readable. ]
When using make check// to run test-case gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp:
...
( cd $build/gdb; make check//unix RUNTESTFLAGS="fission-base.exp" )
...
we run into:
...
(gdb) file \
$build/gdb/testsuite.unix/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base^M
Reading symbols from \
$build/gdb/testsuite.unix/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base...^M
warning: Could not find DWO CU \
$build/gdb/testsuite.1/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base.dwo \
(0x807060504030201) referenced by CU at offset 0xc7 [in module \
$build/gdb/testsuite.unix/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base]^M
...
The problem is that the executable refers to the dwo file using path name
$build/gdb/testsuite.1/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base.dwo,
while the actual dwo file is at
$build/gdb/testsuite.unix/outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-base/fission-base.dwo.
This is caused by this trick in fission-base.S:
...
#define XSTR(s) STR(s)
#define STR(s) #s
...
.asciz XSTR(DWO) # DW_AT_GNU_dwo_name
...
and:
...
$ echo | gcc -E -dD - | grep "define unix"
...
I used this trick to avoid doing additional_flags=-DDWO=\"$dwo\", since I was
concerned that there could be quoting issues.
However, I've found other uses of this pattern, f.i. in
gdb/testsuite/gdb.base/corefile-buildid.exp:
...
additional_flags=-DSHLIB_NAME=\"$dlopen_lib\"]
...
So, fix this by:
- using additional_flags=-DDWO=\"$dwo\" and
- using plain DWO instead of XSTR(DWO)
Likewise in other gdb.dwarf2/fission*.exp test-cases.
Tested on x86_64-linux, using make check//unix.

This commit fixes fission support in the Dwarf assembler. I added the
new test gdb.dwarf2/fission-absolute-dwo.exp which is a simple example
of using the fission support. I also rewrote the existing test
gdb.dwarf2/fission-multi-cu.exp to use the new functionality (instead
of using an x86-64 only assembler file).
To better support compiling the assembler files produced by the Dwarf
assembler I have added the new proc build_executable_and_dwo_files in
lib/dwarf.exp, this replaces build_executable_from_fission_assembler,
all the tests that used the old proc have been updated. Where the old
proc assumed a single .S source file which contained the entire test,
the new proc allows for multiple source files.
The Dwarf assembler already had some fission support, however, this
was not actually used in any tests, and when I tried using it there
were a few issues.
The biggest change is that we now generate DW_FORM_GNU_addr_index
instead of DW_FORM_addr for the low and high pc in
_handle_macro_at_range, support for the DW_FORM_GNU_addr_index is new
in this commit.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-absolute-dwo.c: New file.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-absolute-dwo.exp: New file.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: Use build_executable_and_dwo_files
instead of build_executable_from_fission_assembler.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-loclists-pie.exp: Likewise.

When running test-case gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.exp with target board
cc-with-gdb-index, we run into:
...
gdb compile failed, warning: Could not find DWO TU \
fission-reread.dwo(0x9022f1ceac7e8b19) referenced by TU at offset 0x0 \
[in module outputs/gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread/fission-reread]
...
The problem is that the .dwo file is not found.
There's code added in the .exp file to make sure the .dwo can be found:
...
# Make sure we can find the .dwo file, regardless of whether we're
# running in parallel mode.
gdb_test_no_output "set debug-file-directory [file dirname $binfile]" \
"set debug-file-directory"
...
This works normally, but not for the gdb invocation done by cc-with-tweaks.sh
for target board cc-with-gdb-index.
Fix this by finding the full path to the .dwo file and passing it
to the compilation.
Tested on x86_64-linux with native and target boards cc-with-gdb-index,
cc-with-debug-names and readnow.

This commits the result of running gdb/copyright.py as per our Start
of New Year procedure...
gdb/ChangeLog
Update copyright year range in copyright header of all GDB files.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

A couple of Fission tests rely on the current directory layout. This
assumption is not valid in parallel mode.
This patch fixes the problem by removing the relative directory from
the .S files and instead having the tests set debug-file-directory
before opening the main file.
2013-11-04 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com>
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.S: Remove "gdb.dwarf/".
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: Set debug-file-directory
before loading binfile.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-loclists.S: Remove "gdb.dwarf/".
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-loclists.exp: Set debug-file-directory
before loading binfile.
|
|
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.S: Update. Split out .dwo into separate
file.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-loclists.S: Ditto.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.S: Ditto.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: Skip of remote host. Compile with
build_executable_from_fission_assembler.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-loclists.exp: Ditto.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.exp: Ditto.
|
|
This fixes a few gdb.dwarf2 tests to be more parallel-safe. This
mostly amounts to changing them to write their files into the
directory designated by standard_output_file.
Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18.
* gdb.dwarf2/clztest.exp: Use standard_testfile.
* gdb.dwarf2/dw2-minsym-in-cu.exp: Use standard_testfile.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.S: Remove directory from
DW_AT_GNU_dwo_name.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: Use build_executable. Set
debug-file-directory.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.S: Remove directory from
DW_AT_GNU_dwo_name.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.exp: Use build_executable. Set
debug-file-directory.
|
|
Two modifications:
1. The addition of 2013 to the copyright year range for every file;
2. The use of a single year range, instead of potentially multiple
year ranges, as approved by the FSF.
|
|
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.S: Ditto.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: Remove setting of debug-file-directory.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-reread.exp: Ditto.
|
|
Delete have_addr_base, unused. All uses updated.
(init_cutu_and_read_dies): Process DW_AT_GNU_ranges_base.
(dwarf2_get_pc_bounds): Add ranges_base.
(dwarf2_record_block_ranges): Ditto.
testsuite/
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.c: New file.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.S: New file.
* gdb.dwarf2/fission-base.exp: New file.
