When asking 'check' to list individual tests by invoking it in dry run
mode, it prints the paths to the tests relative to the base of the
I/O test directory.
When asking 'check' to run an individual test, however, it mandates that
only the unqualified test name is given, without any path prefix. This
inconsistency makes it harder to ask for a list of tests and then invoke
each one.
Thus the test listing code is change to flatten the test names, by
printing only the base name, which can be directly invoked.

The 'check' script can be invoked in "dry run" mode, in which case it
merely does test discovery and prints out all their names. Despite only
doing test discovery it still validates that the various QEMU binaries
can be found. This makes it impossible todo test discovery prior to
building QEMU. This is a desirable feature to support, because it will
let meson discover tests.
Fortunately the code in the TestEnv constructor is ordered in a way
that makes this fairly trivial to achieve. We can just short circuit
the constructor after the basic directory paths have been set.

The 'check' script has some rather dubious logic whereby it assumes
that if invoked as a symlink, then it is running from a separate
source tree and build tree, otherwise it assumes the current working
directory is a combined source and build tree.
This doesn't work if you want to invoke the 'check' script using
its full source tree path while still using a split source and build
tree layout. This would be a typical situation with meson if you ask
it to find the 'check' script path using files('check').
Rather than trying to make the logic more magical, add support for
explicitly passing the dirs using --source-dir and --build-dir. If
either is omitted the current logic is maintained.

Add -j <JOBS> parameter, to run tests in several jobs simultaneously.
For realization - simply utilize multiprocessing.Pool class.
Notes:
1. Of course, tests can't run simultaneously in same TEST_DIR. So,
use subdirectories TEST_DIR/testname/ and SOCK_DIR/testname/
instead of simply TEST_DIR and SOCK_DIR
2. multiprocessing.Pool.starmap function doesn't support passing
context managers, so we can't simply pass "self". Happily, we need
self only for read-only access, and it just works if it is defined
in global space. So, add a temporary link TestRunner.shared_self
during run_tests().

python tests
Currently, the check script only parses the option and sets the
VALGRIND_QEMU environmental variable to "y".
Add another local python variable that prepares the command line,
identical to the one provided in the test scripts.
Because the python script does not know in advance the valgrind
PID to assign to the log file name, use the "%p" flag in valgrind
log file name that automatically puts the process PID at runtime.

Right now there is no easy way for "check" to print a reproducer command.
Because such a reproducer command line would be huge, we can instead teach
check to start a command of our choice. This can be for example a Python
unit test with arguments to only run a specific subtest.
Move the trailing empty line to print_env(), since it always looks better
and one caller was not adding it.

Just use classes introduced in previous three commits. Behavior
difference is described in these three commits.
Drop group file, as it becomes unused.
Drop common.env: now check is in python, and for tests we use same
python interpreter that runs the check itself. Use build environment
PYTHON in check-block instead, to keep "make check" use the same
python.
Checking for virtio-blk moved to iotests.py, as it actually iotests.py
dependency. Actually not all python iotests depend on it, so in future
it may be refactored to checked only when really needed.

On macOS, (out of the box) readlink does not have -f. We do not really
need readlink here, though, it was just a replacement for realpath

Instead of using either, just use "cd; pwd" like is done for

We are going to enable some of the python-based tests in the "auto" group,
and these tests require virtio-blk to work properly. Running iotests
without virtio-blk likely does not make too much sense anyway, so instead
of adding a check for the availability of virtio-blk to each and every
test (which does not sound very appealing), let's rather add a check for
this a central spot in the "check" script instead (so that it is still
possible to run "make check" for qemu-system-tricore for example).

Unix sockets generally have a maximum path length. Depending on your
$TEST_DIR, it may be exceeded and then all tests that create and use
Unix sockets there may fail.
Circumvent this by adding a new scratch directory specifically for
Unix socket files. It defaults to a temporary directory (mktemp -d)
that is completely removed after the iotests are done.
(By default, mktemp -d creates a /tmp/tmp.XXXXXXXXXX directory, which
should be short enough for our use cases.)
Use mkdir -p to create the directory (because it seems right), and do
the same for $TEST_DIR (because there is no reason for that to be
created in any different way).

When running "make check -j8" or something similar, the iotests are
running in parallel with the other tests. So when they are printing
out "Passed all xx tests" or a similar status message at the end,
it might not be quite clear that this message belongs to the iotests,

The regular expressions in the "check" script currently expect that there
is always a space after the test number in the group file, so you can't
have a test in there without a group unless the line still ends with a

Supported formats listed by 'qemu' may differ from those listed by
'qemu-img' due to whitelists. Some test cases require specific formats
that may be used with qemu. They can be inquired directly by running
'qemu -drive format=help'. The response takes whitelists into account.
The method supported_formats() serves for that. The method decorator
skip_if_unsupported() checks if all requested formats are whitelisted.
If not, the test case will be skipped. That has been implemented in

CentOS 6 lacks a realpath binary on the base install, which makes
all iotests runs fail since the 2.11 release:
001 - output mismatch (see 001.out.bad)
./check: line 815: realpath: command not found
diff: missing operand after `/home/dummy/qemu/tests/qemu-iotests/001.out'
diff: Try `diff --help' for more information.
Many of the uses of 'realpath' in the check script were being
used on the output of 'type -p' - but that is already an
absolute file name. While a canonical name can often be
shorter (realpath gets rid of /../), it can also be longer (due
to symlink expansion); and we really don't care if the name is
canonical, merely that it was an executable file with an
absolute path. These were broken in commit cceaf1db.
The remaining use of realpath was to convert a possibly relative
filename into an absolute one before calling diff to make it
easier to copy-and-paste the filename for moving the .bad file
into place as the new reference file even when running iotests
out-of-tree (see commit 93e53fb6), but $PWD can achieve the same
purpose.

Originally we added parallels as a read-only format to qemu-iotests
where we did just some tests with a binary image. Since then, write and
image creation support has been added to the driver, so we can now
enable it in _supported_fmt generic.
The driver doesn't support migration yet, though, so we need to add it
to the list of exceptions in 181.

Executing qemu with a terminal as stdin will temporarily alter stty
settings on that terminal (for example, disabling echo), because of
how we run both the monitor and any multiplexing with guest input.
Normally, qemu restores the original settings on exit; but if an
iotest triggers qemu to abort in the middle, we can be left with
the altered terminal setup. This can make life very annoying when
debugging an iotest failure (not everyone remembers the trick of
blind-typing 'stty sane' without echo, and some people prefer
terminal settings that are slightly different than the defaults
picked by 'stty sane').
It is possible to avoid qemu corrupting the terminal by not passing
a terminal to qemu's stdin in the first place (as in, use
'./check ... </dev/null'), but that's extra typing to have to
remember. But running 'exec </dev/null' in the harness seems like
it might be too heavy of a hammer. So I instead went the the
solution of saving and restoring the stty settings, only when the
harness detects that it is run interactively.
I tested this patch by forcing an allocation failure (I can't
guarantee that this particular limit will work on all setups, but
it shows the idea):
$ (ulimit -S -v 500000; ./check -qcow2 1)

"check" is full of qemu-iotests--specific details. Separating it
