Leave the implementation of error_vprintf and error_vprintf_unless_qmp (the latter now trivially wrapped by error_printf_unless_qmp) to libqemustub.a and monitor.c. This has two advantages: it lets us remove the monitor_printf and monitor_vprintf stubs, and it lets tests provide a different implementation of the functions that uses g_test_message. 2016-10-30COLO: Add 'x-colo-lost-heartbeat' command to trigger failoverzhanghailiang1-0/+8
We leave users to choose whatever heartbeat solution they want, if the heartbeat is lost, or other errors they detect, they can use experimental command 'x_colo_lost_heartbeat' to tell COLO to do failover, COLO will do operations accordingly. For example, if the command is sent to the Primary side, the Primary side will exit COLO mode, does cleanup work, and then, PVM will take over the service work. If sent to the Secondary side, the Secondary side will run failover work, then takes over PVM's service work. Switch from normal migration loadvm process into COLO checkpoint process if COLO mode is enabled. We add three new members to struct MigrationIncomingState, 'have_colo_incoming_thread' and 'colo_incoming_thread' record the COLO related thread for secondary VM, 'migration_incoming_co' records the original migration incoming coroutine. 2016-10-30migration: Enter into COLO mode after migration if COLO is enabledzhanghailiang1-0/+9
Add a new migration state: MIGRATION_STATUS_COLO. Migration source side enters this state after the first live migration successfully finished if COLO is enabled by command 'migrate_set_capability x-colo on'. We reuse migration thread, so the process of checkpointing will be handled in migration thread. We add helper function colo_supported() to indicate whether colo is supported or not, with which we use to control whether or not showing 'x-colo' string to users, they can use qmp command 'query-migrate-capabilities' or hmp command 'info migrate_capabilities' to learn if colo is supported. The default value for COLO (COarse-Grain LOck Stepping) is disabled. Instead of having a global dstate array, declare a single 'uint16 TRACE_${EVENT_NAME}_DSTATE' variable for each trace event. Record a pointer to this variable in the TraceEvent struct too. By turning trace_event_get_state_dynamic_by_id into a macro, this still hits the fast path, and cache affinity is ensured by declaring all the uint16 vars adjacent to each other. 2016-09-23util: Add UUID APIFam Zheng1-1/+1
A number of different places across the code base use CONFIG_UUID. Some of them are soft dependency, some are not built if libuuid is not available, some come with dummy fallback, some throws runtime error. It is hard to maintain, and hard to reason for users. Since UUID is a simple standard with only a small number of operations, it is cleaner to have a central support in libqemuutil. This patch adds qemu_uuid_* functions that all uuid users in the code base can rely on. Except for qemu_uuid_generate which is new code, all other functions are just copy from existing fallbacks from other files. Note that qemu_uuid_parse is moved without updating the function signature to use QemuUUID, to keep this patch simple. Let's provide a standardized interface to baseline two CPU models, to create a third, compatible one. This is especially helpful when two CPU models are not identical, but a CPU model is required that is guaranteed to run under both configurations, where the original models run. "query-cpu-model-baseline" takes two CPU models and returns a third, compatible model. The result will always be a static CPU model. Let's provide a standardized interface to compare two CPU models. "query-cpu-model-compare" takes two models and returns how they compare in a specific configuration. The result will give guarantees about runnability. E.g. if a CPU model A is a subset of CPU model B, model A is guaranteed to run in configurations where model B runs, but not the other way around (might or might not run). Usually, CPU features or CPU generations are used to calculate the result. If a model is not guaranteed to run in a certain environment (e.g. incompatible), a compatible one can be created by "baselining" both models (follow up patch). 2016-09-06qmp: add QMP interface "query-cpu-model-expansion"David Hildenbrand2-0/+13
Let's provide a standardized interface to expand CPU models. This interface can be used by tooling to get details about a specific CPU model in a certain configuration, e.g. about the "host" model. To take care of all architectures, two detail levels for an expansion are introduced. Certain architectures might not support all detail levels. While "full" will expand and indicate all relevant properties/features of a CPU model, "static" expands to a static base CPU model, that will never change between QEMU versions and therefore have the same features when used under different compatibility machines. This patch introduces block driver that implement recording and replaying of block devices' operations. All block completion operations are added to the queue. Queue is flushed at checkpoints and information about processed requests is recorded to the log. In replay phase the queue is matched with events read from the log. Therefore block devices requests are processed deterministically. 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. qemu_clock_warp function is called to update virtual clock when CPU is sleeping. This function includes replay checkpoint to make execution deterministic in icount mode. Record/replay module flushes async event queue at checkpoints. Some of the events (e.g., block devices operations) include interaction with hardware. E.g., APIC polled by block devices sets one of IRQ flags. Flag to be set depends on currently executed thread (CPU or iothread). Therefore in replay mode we have to process the checkpoints in the same thread as they were recorded. qemu_clock_warp function (and its checkpoint) may be called from different thread. This patch decouples two different execution cases of this function: call when CPU is sleeping from iothread and call from cpu thread to update virtual clock. First task is performed by qemu_start_warp_timer function. It sets warp timer event to the moment of nearest pending virtual timer. Second function (qemu_account_warp_timer) is called from cpu thread before execution of the code. It advances virtual clock by adding the length of period while CPU was sleeping. This patch implements record and replay of character devices. It records chardevs communication in replay mode. Recorded information include data read from backend and counter of bytes written from frontend to backend to preserve frontend internal state. If character device was configured through the command line in record mode, then in replay mode it should be also added to command line. Backend of the character device could be changed in replay mode. Replaying of devices that perform ioctl and get_msgfd operations is not supported. gdbstub which also acts as a backend is not recorded to allow controlling the replaying through gdb. Monitor backends are also not recorded. 2015-12-17kvm: x86: add support for KVM_CAP_SPLIT_IRQCHIPPaolo Bonzini1-1/+1
This patch adds support for split IRQ chip mode. When KVM_CAP_SPLIT_IRQCHIP is enabled: 1.) The PIC, PIT, and IOAPIC are implemented in userspace while the LAPIC is implemented by KVM. 2.) The software IOAPIC delivers interrupts to the KVM LAPIC via kvm_set_irq. Interrupt delivery is configured via the MSI routing table, for which routes are reserved in target-i386/kvm.c then configured in hw/intc/ioapic.c 3.) KVM delivers IOAPIC EOIs via a new exit KVM_EXIT_IOAPIC_EOI, which is handled in target-i386/kvm.c and relayed to the software IOAPIC via ioapic_eoi_broadcast. 2015-11-12monitor/target-ppc: Define target_get_monitor_defAlexey Kardashevskiy2-0/+32
At the moment get_monitor_def() returns only registers from statically defined monitor_defs array. However there is a lot of BOOK3S SPRs which are not in the list and cannot be printed from the monitor. This adds a new target platform hook - target_get_monitor_def(). The hook is called if a register was not found in the static array returned by the target_monitor_defs() hook. The hook is only defined for POWERPC, it returns registered SPRs and fails on unregistered ones providing the user with information on what is actually supported on the running CPU. The register value is saved as uint64_t as it is the biggest supported register size; target_ulong cannot be used because of the stub - it is in a "common" code and cannot include "cpu.h", etc; this is also why the hook prototype is redefined in the stub instead of being included from some header. This replaces static descriptors for GPRs, FPRs, SRs with a helper which looks for a value in a corresponding array in the CPUPPCState. The immediate effect is that all 32 SRs can be printed now (instead of 16); later this can be reused for VSX or TM registers. This replaces callbacks for MSR and XER with static descriptors in monitor_defs as they are stored in CPUPPCState. While we are here, this adds "cr" as a synonym of "ccr". Clock ticks are considered as the sources of non-deterministic data for virtual machine. This patch implements saving the clock values when they are acquired (virtual, host clock). When replaying the execution corresponding values are read from log and transfered to the module, which wants to read the values. Such a design required the clock polling to be synchronized. Sometimes it is not true - e.g. when timeouts for timer lists are checked. In this case we use a cached value of the clock, passing it to the client code.
