2016-02-16qom: add helpers for UserCreatable object typesDaniel P. Berrange1-69/+7
The QMP monitor code has two helper methods object_add and qmp_object_del that are called from several places in the code (QMP, HMP and main emulator startup). The HMP and main emulator startup code also share further logic that extracts the qom-type & id values from a qdict. We soon need to use this logic from qemu-img, qemu-io and qemu-nbd too, but don't want those to depend on the monitor, nor do we want to duplicate the code. To avoid this, move some code out of qmp.c and hmp.c adding new methods to qom/object_interfaces.c - user_creatable_add - takes a QDict holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_type - takes an ID, type name, and QDict holding object properties & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts - takes a QemuOpts holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts_foreach - variant on user_creatable_add_opts which can be directly used in conjunction with qemu_opts_foreach. - user_creatable_del - takes an ID and deletes the corresponding object The existing code is updated to use these new methods. 2016-01-20block: Inactivate BDS when migration completesKevin Wolf1-0/+12
So far, live migration with shared storage meant that the image is in a not-really-ready don't-touch-me state on the destination while the source is still actively using it, but after completing the migration, the image was fully opened on both sides. This is bad. This patch adds a block driver callback to inactivate images on the source before completing the migration. Inactivation means that it goes to a state as if it was just live migrated to the qemu instance on the source (i.e. BDRV_O_INACTIVE is set). You're then supposed to continue either on the source or on the destination, which takes ownership of the image. A typical migration looks like this now with respect to disk images: 1. Destination qemu is started, the image is opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE. The image is fully opened on the source. 2. Migration is about to complete. The source flushes the image and inactivates it. Now both sides have the image opened with BDRV_O_INACTIVE and are expecting the other side to still modify it. 3. One side (the destination on success) continues and calls bdrv_invalidate_all() in order to take ownership of the image again. This removes BDRV_O_INACTIVE on the resuming side; the flag remains set on the other side. This ensures that the same image isn't written to by both instances (unless both are resumed, but then you get what you deserve). This is important because .bdrv_close for non-BDRV_O_INACTIVE images could write to the image file, which is definitely forbidden while another host is using the image. 2016-01-18qom: Change object property iterator API contractDaniel P. Berrange1-8/+6
Currently the ObjectProperty iterator API works as follows: ObjectPropertyIterator *iter; iter = object_property_iter_init(obj); while ((prop = object_property_iter_next(iter))) { ... } object_property_iter_free(iter); This has the benefit that the ObjectPropertyIterator struct can be opaque, but has the downside that callers need to explicitly call a free function. It is also not in keeping with iterator style used elsewhere in QEMU/GLib2. This patch changes the API to use stack allocation instead: ObjectPropertyIterator iter; object_property_iter_init(&iter, obj); while ((prop = object_property_iter_next(&iter))) { ... } Reviewed-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel P. 2015-11-11blockdev: read-only-mode for blockdev-change-mediumMax Reitz1-1/+2
Add an option to qmp_blockdev_change_medium() which allows changing the read-only status of the block device whose medium is changed. Some drives do not have a inherently fixed read-only status; for instance, floppy disks can be set read-only or writable independently of the drive. 2015-10-09qdev: Protect device-list-properties against broken devicesMarkus Armbruster1-0/+5
Several devices don't survive object_unref(object_new(T)): they crash or hang during cleanup, or they leave dangling pointers behind. This breaks at least device-list-properties, because qmp_device_list_properties() needs to create a device to find its properties. Broken in commit f4eb32b "qmp: show QOM properties in device-list-properties", v2.1. Example reproducer: $ qemu-system-aarch64 -nodefaults -display none -machine none -S -qmp stdio {"QMP": {"version": {"qemu": {"micro": 50, "minor": 4, "major": 2}, "package": ""}, "capabilities": []}} { "execute": "qmp_capabilities" } {"return": {}} { "execute": "device-list-properties", "arguments": { "typename": "pxa2xx-pcmcia" } } qemu-system-aarch64: /home/armbru/work/qemu/memory.c:1307: memory_region_finalize: Assertion `((&mr->subregions)->tqh_first == ((void *)0))' failed. Aborted (core dumped) [Exit 134 (SIGABRT)] Unfortunately, I can't fix the problems in these devices right now. Instead, add DeviceClass member cannot_destroy_with_object_finalize_yet to mark them: * Hang during cleanup (didn't debug, so I can't say why): "realview_pci", "versatile_pci". * Dangling pointer in cpus: most CPUs, plus "allwinner-a10", "digic", "fsl,imx25", "fsl,imx31", "xlnx, zynqmp", because they create such CPUs * Assert kvm_enabled(): "host-x86_64-cpu", host-i386-cpu", "host-powerpc64-cpu", "host-embedded-powerpc-cpu", "host-powerpc-cpu" (the powerpc ones can't currently reach the assertion, because the CPUs are only registered when KVM is enabled, but the assertion is arguably in the wrong place all the same) Make qmp_device_list_properties() fail cleanly when the device is so marked. This improves device-list-properties from "crashes, hangs or leaves dangling pointers behind" to "fails". Not a complete fix, just a better-than-nothing work-around. In the above reproducer, device-list-properties now fails with "Can't list properties of device 'pxa2xx-pcmcia'". This also protects -device FOO,help, which uses the same machinery since commit ef52358 "qdev-monitor: include QOM properties in -device FOO, help output", v2.2. Example reproducer: $ qemu-system-aarch64 -machine none -device pxa2xx-pcmcia,help Before: qemu-system-aarch64: .../memory.c:1307: memory_region_finalize: Assertion `((&mr->subregions)->tqh_first == ((void *)0))' failed. 2015-06-22qmp: Wean off qerror_report()Markus Armbruster1-43/+12
The traditional QMP command handler interface int qmp_FOO(Monitor *mon, const QDict *params, QObject **ret_data); doesn't provide for returning an Error object. Instead, the handler is expected to stash it in the monitor with qerror_report(). When we rebased QMP on top of QAPI, we didn't change this interface. Instead, commit 776574d introduced "middle mode" as a temporary aid for converting existing QMP commands to QAPI one by one. More than three years later, we're still using it. Middle mode has two effects: * Instead of the native input marshallers static void qmp_marshal_input_FOO(QDict *, QObject **, Error **) it generates input marshallers conforming to the traditional QMP command handler interface. * It suppresses generation of code to register them with qmp_register_command() This permits giving them internal linkage. As long as we need qmp-commands.hx, we can't use the registry behind qmp_register_command(), so the latter has to stay for now. The former has to go to get rid of qerror_report(). Changing all QMP commands to fit the QAPI mold in one go was impractical back when we started, but by now there are just a few stragglers left: do_qmp_capabilities(), qmp_qom_set(), qmp_qom_get(), qmp_object_add(), qmp_netdev_add(), do_device_add(). Switch middle mode to generate native input marshallers, and adapt the stragglers. Simplifies both the monitor code and the stragglers. Rename do_qmp_capabilities() to qmp_capabilities(), and do_device_add() to qmp_device_add, because that's how QMP command handlers are named today. 2015-06-22QemuOpts: Wean off qerror_report_err()Markus Armbruster1-1/+1
qerror_report_err() is a transitional interface to help with converting existing monitor commands to QMP. It should not be used elsewhere. The only remaining user in qemu-option.c is qemu_opts_parse(). Is it used in QMP context? If not, we can simply replace qerror_report_err() by error_report_err(). The uses in qemu-img.c, qemu-io.c, qemu-nbd.c and under tests/ are clearly not in QMP context. The uses in vl.c aren't either, because the only QMP command handlers there are qmp_query_status() and qmp_query_machines(), and they don't call it. Remaining uses: * drive_def(): Command line -drive and such, HMP drive_add and pci_add * hmp_chardev_add(): HMP chardev-add * monitor_parse_command(): HMP core * tmp_config_parse(): Command line -tpmdev * net_host_device_add(): HMP host_net_add * net_client_parse(): Command line -net and -netdev * qemu_global_option(): Command line -global * vnc_parse_func(): Command line -display, -vnc, default display, HMP change, QMP change. Bummer. * qemu_pci_hot_add_nic(): HMP pci_add * usb_net_init(): Command line -usbdevice, HMP usb_add Propagate errors through qemu_opts_parse(). Create a convenience function qemu_opts_parse_noisily() that passes errors to error_report_err(). Switch all non-QMP users outside tests to it. That leaves vnc_parse_func(). A future patch will be using a 'name':{dictionary} entry in the QAPI schema to specify a default value for an optional argument (see previous commit message for more details why); but existing use of inline nested structs conflicts with that goal. This patch fixes one of only two commands relying on nested types, by breaking the nesting into an explicit type; it means that the type is now boxed instead of unboxed in C code, but the QMP wire format is unaffected by this change. 2014-05-09qmp: Don't use error_is_set() to suppress additional errorsMarkus Armbruster1-21/+11
Using error_is_set(errp) that way can sweep programming errors under the carpet when we get called incorrectly with an error set. encrypted_bdrv_it() does it, because there's no way to make bdrv_iterate() break its loop. Actually safe, because qmp_cont() clears the error before the loop. Clean it up anyway: replace bdrv_iterate() by bdrv_next(), break the loop on error. Replace both occurrences, for consistency. 2014-04-25qmp: object-add: Validate class before creating objectEduardo Habkost1-7/+14
Currently it is very easy to crash QEMU by issuing an object-add command using an abstract class or a class that doesn't support TYPE_USER_CREATABLE as parameter. Example: with the following QMP command: (QEMU) object-add qom-type=cpu id=foo QEMU aborts at: ERROR:qom/object.c:335:object_initialize_with_type: assertion failed: (type->abstract == false) This patch moves the check for TYPE_USER_CREATABLE before object_new(), and adds a check to prevent the code from trying to instantiate abstract classes. 2014-01-28add optional 2nd stage initialization to -object/object-add commandsIgor Mammedov1-0/+12
Introduces USER_CREATABLE interface that must be implemented by objects which are designed to created with -object CLI option or object-add QMP command. Interface provides an ability to do an optional second stage initialization of the object created with -object/object-add commands. By providing complete() callback, which is called after the object properties were set. It allows to: * prevents misusing of -object/object-add by filtering out objects that are not designed for it. * generalize second stage backend initialization instead of adding custom APIs to perform it * early error detection of backend initialization at -object/ object-add time rather than through a proxy DEVICE object that tries to use backend.
