2023-10-20CPU topology: extend with s390 specificsPierre Morel1-0/+1
S390 adds two new SMP levels, drawers and books to the CPU topology. S390 CPUs have specific topology features like dedication and entitlement. These indicate to the guest information on host vCPU scheduling and help the guest make better scheduling decisions. Add the new levels to the relevant QAPI structs. Add all the supported topology levels, dedication and entitlement as properties to S390 CPUs. Create machine-common.json so we can later include it in machine-target.json also. 2023-04-28qapi storage-daemon/qapi: Fix documentation section structureMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
In the QEMU QMP Reference Manual, subsection "Block core (VM unrelated)" is empty. Its contents is at the end of subsection "Background jobs" instead. That's because qapi/job.json is included first from qapi/block-core.json, which makes qapi/job.json's documentation go between qapi/block-core.json's subsection heading and contents. In the QEMU Storage Daemon QMP Reference Manual, section "Block Devices" contains nothing but an empty subsection "Block core (VM unrelated)". The latter's contents is at the end section "Socket data types", along with subsection "Block device exports". Subsection "Background jobs" is at the end of section "Cryptography". All this is because storage-daemon/qapi/qapi-schema.json includes modules in a confused order. Fix both as follows. Turn subsection "Background jobs" into a section. Move it before section "Block devices" in the QEMU QMP Reference Manual, by including qapi/jobs.json right before qapi/block.json. Reorder include directives in storage-daemon/qapi/qapi-schema.json to match the order in qapi/qapi-schema.json, so that the QEMU Storage Daemon QMP Reference Manual's section structure the QEMU QMP Reference Manual's. In the QEMU QMP Reference Manual, qapi/cryptodev.json's documentation is at the end of section "Virtio devices". That's because it lacks a section heading, and therefore gets squashed into whatever section happens to precede it. Add section heading so it's in section "Cryptography devices". 2023-03-07hw/mem/cxl_type3: Add CXL RAS Error Injection Support.Jonathan Cameron1-0/+1
CXL uses PCI AER Internal errors to signal to the host that an error has occurred. The host can then read more detailed status from the CXL RAS capability. For uncorrectable errors: support multiple injection in one operation as this is needed to reliably test multiple header logging support in an OS. The equivalent feature doesn't exist for correctable errors, so only one error need be injected at a time. Note: - Header content needs to be manually specified in a fashion that matches the specification for what can be in the header for each error type. 2022-10-09qmp: add QMP command x-query-virtioLaurent Vivier1-0/+1
This new command lists all the instances of VirtIODevices with their canonical QOM path and name. [Jonah: @virtio_list duplicates information that already exists in the QOM composition tree. However, extracting necessary information from this tree seems to be a bit convoluted. Instead, we still create our own list of realized virtio devices but use @qmp_qom_get with the device's canonical QOM path to confirm that the device exists and is realized. If the device exists but is actually not realized, then we remove it from our list (for synchronicity to the QOM composition tree). Also, the QMP command @x-query-virtio is redundant as @qom-list and @qom-get are sufficient to search '/machine/' for realized virtio devices. 2022-06-14qmp: Support for querying statsMark Kanda1-0/+1
Gathering statistics is important for development, for monitoring and for performance measurement. There are tools such as kvm_stat that do this and they rely on the _user_ knowing the interesting data points rather than the tool (which can treat them as opaque). The commands introduced in this commit introduce QMP support for querying stats; the goal is to take the capabilities of these tools and making them available throughout the whole virtualization stack, so that one can observe, monitor and measure virtual machines without having shell access + root on the host that runs them. query-stats returns a list of all stats per target type (only VM and vCPU to start); future commits add extra options for specifying stat names, vCPU qom paths, and providers. All these are used by the HMP command "info stats". Because of the development usecases around statistics, a good HMP interface is important. query-stats-schemas returns a list of stats included in each target type, with an option for specifying the provider. The concepts in the schema are based on the KVM binary stats' own introspection data, just translated to QAPI. There are two reasons to have a separate schema that is not tied to the QAPI schema. The first is the contents of the schemas: the new introspection data provides different information than the QAPI data, namely unit of measurement, how the numbers are gathered and change (peak/instant/cumulative/histogram), and histogram bucket sizes. There's really no reason to have this kind of metadata in the QAPI introspection schema (except possibly for the unit of measure, but there's a very weak justification). Another reason is the dynamicity of the schema. The QAPI introspection data is very much static; and while QOM is somewhat more dynamic, generally we consider that to be a bug rather than a feature these days. On the other hand, the statistics that are exposed by QEMU might be passed through from another source, such as KVM, and the disadvantages of manually updating the QAPI schema for outweight the benefits from vetting the statistics and filtering out anything that seems "too unstable". Running old QEMU with new kernel is a supported usecase; if old QEMU cannot expose statistics from a new kernel, or if a kernel developer needs to change QEMU before gathering new info from the new kernel, then that is a poor user interface. The framework provides a method to register callbacks for these QMP commands. Most of the work in fact is done by the callbacks, and a large majority of this patch is new QAPI structs and commands. 2021-03-19qemu-options: New -compat to set policy for deprecated interfacesMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
New option -compat lets you configure what to do when deprecated interfaces get used. This is intended for testing users of the management interfaces. It is experimental. -compat deprecated-input=<input-policy> configures what to do when deprecated input is received. Input policy can be "accept" (accept silently), or "reject" (reject the request with an error). -compat deprecated-output=<out-policy> configures what to do when deprecated output is sent. Output policy can be "accept" (pass on unchanged), or "hide" (filter out the deprecated parts). Default is "accept". Policies other than "accept" are implemented later in this series. For now, -compat covers only syntactic aspects of QMP, i.e. stuff tagged with feature 'deprecated'. We may want to extend it to cover semantic aspects, CLI, and experimental features. Note that there is no good way for management application to detect presence of -compat: it's not visible output of query-qmp-schema or query-command-line-options. Tolerable, because it's meant for testing. If running with -compat fails, skip the test. The yank feature allows to recover from hanging qemu by "yanking" at various parts. Other qemu systems can register themselves and multiple yank functions. Then all yank functions for selected instances can be called by the 'yank' out-of-band qmp command. Available instances can be queried by a 'query-yank' oob command. 2020-09-29qapi: Use rST markup for literal blocksPeter Maydell1-2/+4
There are exactly two places in our json doc comments where we use the markup accepted by the texi doc generator where a '|' in the first line of a doc comment means the line should be emitted as a literal block (fixed-width font, whitespace preserved). Since we use this syntax so rarely, instead of making the rST generator support it, instead just convert the two uses to rST-format literal blocks, which are indented and introduced with '::'. (The rST generator doesn't complain about the old style syntax, it just emits it with the '|' and with the whitespace not preserved, which looks odd, but means we can safely leave this change until after we've stopped generating texinfo.) 2020-08-03schemas: Add vim modelineAndrea Bolognani1-0/+1
The various schemas included in QEMU use a JSON-based format which is, however, strictly speaking not valid JSON. As a consequence, when vim tries to apply syntax highlight rules for JSON (as guessed from the file name), the result is an unreadable mess which mostly consist of red markers pointing out supposed errors in, well, pretty much everything. Using Python syntax highlighting produces much better results, and in fact these files already start with specially-formatted comments that instruct Emacs to process them as if they were Python files. 2019-09-28qapi: Clean up member name case checkingMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
QAPISchemaMember.check_clash() checks for member names that map to the same c_name(). Takes care of rejecting duplicate names. It also checks a naming rule: no uppercase in member names. That's a rather odd place to do it. Enforcing naming rules is check_name_str()'s job. qapi-code-gen.txt specifies the name case rule applies to the name as it appears in the schema. check_clash() checks c_name(name) instead. No difference, as c_name() leaves alone case, but unclean. Move the name case check into check_name_str(), less the c_name(). New argument @permit_upper suppresses it. Pass permit_upper=True for definitions (which are not members), and when the member's owner is whitelisted with pragma name-case-whitelist. Bonus: name-case-whitelist now applies to a union's inline base, too. Update qapi/qapi-schema.json pragma to whitelist union CpuInfo instead of CpuInfo's implicit base type's name q_obj_CpuInfo-base. In my "build everything" tree, changing a type in qapi/common.json triggers a recompile of some 3600 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). One common dependency is QapiErrorClass: it's used only in in qapi/error.h, which uses nothing else, and is widely included. Move QapiErrorClass from common.json to new error.json. Touching common.json now recompiles only some 2900 objects. This patch adds structures into qapi to replace the existing configuration structures used by audio backends currently. This qapi will be the base of the -audiodev command line parameter (that replaces the old environment variables based config). This is not a 1:1 translation of the old options, I've tried to make them much more consistent (e.g. almost every backend had an option to specify buffer size, but the name was different for every backend, and some backends required usecs, while some other required frames, samples or bytes). Also tried to reduce the number of abbreviations used by the config keys. Some of the more important changes: * use `in` and `out` instead of `ADC` and `DAC`, as the former is more user friendly imho * moved buffer settings into the global setting area (so it's the same for all backends that support it. Backends that can't change buffer size will simply ignore them). 2019-02-26authz: add QAuthZList object type for an access control listDaniel P. Berrange1-0/+1
Add a QAuthZList object type that implements the QAuthZ interface. This built-in implementation maintains a trivial access control list with a sequence of match rules and a final default policy. This replicates the functionality currently provided by the qemu_acl module. Everyone unmatched is denied. It is not currently possible to create this via -object, since there is no syntax supported to specify non-scalar properties for objects. This is likely to be addressed by later support for using JSON with -object, or an equivalent approach. In any case the future "authz-listfile" object can be used from the CLI and is likely a better choice, as it allows the ACL to be refreshed automatically on change. We can't add appropriate target-specific conditionals to misc.json, because that would make all of misc.json unusable in target-independent code. To keep misc.json target-independent, we need to split off target-dependent target.json. This commit doesn't actually split off anything, it merely creates the empty module. The next few patches will move stuff from misc.json there. 2019-02-01vmdk: Implement .bdrv_co_create callbackFam Zheng1-7/+9
This makes VMDK support blockdev-create. The implementation reuses the image creation code in vmdk_co_create_opts which now acceptes a callback pointer to "retrieve" BlockBackend pointers from the caller. This way we separate the logic between file/extent acquisition and initialization. The QAPI command parameters are mostly the same as the old create_opts except the dropped legacy @compat6 switch, which is redundant with @hwversion. 2018-12-22qapi: Define new QMP message for pvrdmaYuval Shaia1-0/+1
pvrdma requires that the same GID attached to it will be attached to the backend device in the host. A new QMP messages is defined so pvrdma device can broadcast any change made to its GID table. This event is captured by libvirt which in turn will update the GID table in the backend device. Move qapi-schema.json to qapi/, so it's next to its modules, and all files get generated to qapi/, not just the ones generated for modules. Consistently name the generated files qapi-MODULE.EXT: qmp-commands.[ch] become qapi-commands.[ch], qapi-event.[ch] become qapi-events.[ch], and qmp-introspect.[ch] become qapi-introspect.[ch]. This gets rid of the temporary hacks in scripts/qapi/commands.py, scripts/qapi/events.py, and scripts/qapi/common.py.
