2022-12-14qapi net: Elide redundant has_FOO in generated CMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
The has_FOO for pointer-valued FOO are redundant, except for arrays. They are also a nuisance to work with. Recent commit "qapi: Start to elide redundant has_FOO in generated C" provided the means to elide them step by step. This is the step for qapi/net.json. Said commit explains the transformation in more detail. The invariant violations mentioned there do not occur here. 2022-10-28qapi: net: add stream and dgram netdevsLaurent Vivier1-0/+2
Copied from socket netdev file and modified to use SocketAddress to be able to introduce new features like unix socket. "udp" and "mcast" are squashed into dgram netdev, multicast is detected according to the IP address type. "listen" and "connect" modes are managed by stream netdev. An optional parameter "server" defines the mode (off by default) The two new types need to be parsed the modern way with -netdev, because with the traditional way, the "type" field of netdev structure collides with the "type" field of SocketAddress and prevents the correct evaluation of the command line option. Moreover the traditional way doesn't allow to use the same type (SocketAddress) several times with the -netdev option (needed to specify "local" and "remote" addresses). The previous commit paved the way for parsing the modern way, but omitted one detail: how to pick modern vs. traditional, in netdev_is_modern(). We want to pick based on the value of parameter "type". But how to extract it from the option argument? Parsing the option argument, either the modern or the traditional way, extracts it for us, but only if parsing succeeds. If parsing fails, there is no good option. No matter which parser we pick, it'll be the wrong one for some arguments, and the error reporting will be confusing. Fortunately, the traditional parser accepts *anything* when called in a certain way. This maximizes our chance to extract the value of "type", and in turn minimizes the risk of confusing error reporting. 2018-05-14net: Get rid of 'vlan' terminology and use 'hub' instead in the source filesThomas Huth1-4/+3

2018-01-29net: Allow hubports to connect to other netdevsThomas Huth1-6/+21
QEMU can emulate hubs to connect NICs and netdevs. This is currently primarily used for the mis-named 'vlan' feature of the networking subsystem. Now the 'vlan' feature has been marked as deprecated, since its name is rather confusing and the users often rather mis-configure their network when trying to use it. But while the 'vlan' parameter should be removed at one point in time, the basic idea of emulating a hub in QEMU is still good: It's useful for bundling up the output of multiple NICs into one single l2tp netdev for example. Now to be able to use the hubport feature without 'vlan's, there is one missing piece: The possibility to connect a hubport to a netdev, too. This patch adds this possibility by introducing a new "netdev=..." parameter to the hubports. To bundle up the output of multiple NICs into one socket netdev, you can now run QEMU with these parameters for example: qemu-system-ppc64 ... -netdev socket,id=s1,connect=:11122 \ -netdev hubport,hubid=1,id=h1,netdev=s1 \ -netdev hubport,hubid=1,id=h2 -device e1000,netdev=h2 \ -netdev hubport,hubid=1,id=h3 -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=h3 For using the socket netdev, you have got to start another QEMU as the receiving side first, for example with network dumping enabled: qemu-system-x86_64 -M isapc -netdev socket,id=s0,listen=:11122 \ -device ne2k_isa,netdev=s0 \ -object filter-dump,id=f1,netdev=s0,file=/tmp/dump.dat After the ppc64 guest tried to boot from both NICs, you can see in the dump file (using Wireshark, for example), that the output of both NICs (the e1000 and the virtio-net-pci) has been successfully transfered via the socket netdev in this case. 2016-07-19qapi: Change Netdev into a flat unionEric Blake1-11/+11
This is a mostly-mechanical conversion that creates a new flat union 'Netdev' QAPI type that covers all the branches of the former 'NetClientOptions' simple union, where the branches are now listed in a new 'NetClientDriver' enum rather than generated from the simple union. The existence of a flat union has no change to the command line syntax accepted for new code, and will make it possible for a future patch to switch the QMP command to parse a boxed union for no change to valid QMP; but it does have some ripple effect on the C code when dealing with the new types. While making the conversion, note that the 'NetLegacy' type remains unchanged: it applies only to legacy command line options, and will not be ported to QMP, so it should remain a wrapper around a simple union; to avoid confusion, the type named 'NetClientOptions' is now gone, and we introduce 'NetLegacyOptions' in its place. Then, in the C code, we convert from NetLegacy to Netdev as soon as possible, so that the bulk of the net stack only has to deal with one QAPI type, not two. Note that since the old legacy code always rejected 'hubport', we can just omit that branch from the new 'NetLegacyOptions' simple union. Based on an idea originally by Zoltán Kővágó <DirtY.iCE.hu@gmail.com>: Message-Id: <01a527fbf1a5de880091f98cf011616a78adeeee.1441627176.git.DirtY.iCE.hu@gmail.com> although the sed script in that patch no longer applies due to other changes in the tree since then, and I also did some manual cleanups (such as fixing whitespace to keep checkpatch happy). 2016-03-18qapi: Don't special-case simple union wrappersEric Blake1-1/+1
Simple unions were carrying a special case that hid their 'data' QMP member from the resulting C struct, via the hack method QAPISchemaObjectTypeVariant.simple_union_type(). But by using the work we started by unboxing flat union and alternate branches, coupled with the ability to visit the members of an implicit type, we can now expose the simple union's implicit type in qapi-types.h: | struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper { | ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *data; | }; | | struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper { | ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *data; | }; ... | struct ImageInfoSpecific { | ImageInfoSpecificKind type; | union { /* union tag is @type */ | void *data; |- ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *qcow2; |- ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *vmdk; |+ q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper qcow2; |+ q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper vmdk; | } u; | }; Doing this removes asymmetry between QAPI's QMP side and its C side (both sides now expose 'data'), and means that the treatment of a simple union as sugar for a flat union is now equivalent in both languages (previously the two approaches used a different layer of dereferencing, where the simple union could be converted to a flat union with equivalent C layout but different {} on the wire, or to an equivalent QMP wire form but with different C representation). Using the implicit type also lets us get rid of the simple_union_type() hack. Of course, now all clients of simple unions have to adjust from using su->u.member to using su->u.member.data; while this touches a number of files in the tree, some earlier cleanup patches helped minimize the change to the initialization of a temporary variable rather than every single member access. The generated qapi-visit.c code is also affected by the layout change: |@@ -7393,10 +7393,10 @@ void visit_type_ImageInfoSpecific_member | } | switch (obj->type) { | case IMAGE_INFO_SPECIFIC_KIND_QCOW2: |- visit_type_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2(v, "data", &obj->u.qcow2, &err); |+ visit_type_q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper_members(v, &obj->u.qcow2, &err); | break; | case IMAGE_INFO_SPECIFIC_KIND_VMDK: |- visit_type_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk(v, "data", &obj->u.vmdk, &err); |+ visit_type_q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper_members(v, &obj->u.vmdk, &err); | break; | default: | abort(); Signed-off-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Message-Id: <1458254921-17042-13-git-send-email-eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Markus Armbruster <armbru@redhat.com>

2015-11-02net: Convert to new qapi union layoutEric Blake1-2/+2
We have two issues with our qapi union layout: 1) Even though the QMP wire format spells the tag 'type', the C code spells it 'kind', requiring some hacks in the generator. 2) The C struct uses an anonymous union, which places all tag values in the same namespace as all non-variant members. This leads to spurious collisions if a tag value matches a non-variant member's name. Make the conversion to the new layout for net-related code. 2015-05-27net: Permit incremental conversion of init functions to ErrorMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
Error reporting for netdev_add is broken: the net_client_init_fun[] report the actual errors with (at best) error_report(), and their caller net_client_init1() makes up a generic error on top. For command line and HMP, this produces an mildly ugly error cascade. In QMP, the actual errors go to stderr, and the generic error becomes the command's error reply. To fix this, we need to convert the net_client_init_fun[] to Error. To permit fixing them one by one, add an Error ** parameter to the net_client_init_fun[]. If the call fails without returning an Error, make up the same generic Error as before. But if it returns one, use that instead. Since none of them does so far, no functional change. 2012-09-14net: broadcast hub packets if at least one port can receiveStefan Hajnoczi1-3/+3
In commit 60c07d933c66c4b30a83b7ccbc8a0cb3df1b2d0e ("net: fix qemu_can_send_packet logic") the "VLAN" broadcast behavior was changed to queue packets if any net client cannot receive. It turns out that this was not actually the right fix and just hides the real bug that hw/usb/dev-network.c:usbnet_receive() clobbers its receive buffer when called multiple times in a row. The commit also introduced a new bug that "VLAN" packets would not be sent if one of multiple net clients was down. The hw/usb/dev-network.c bug has since been fixed, so this patch reverts broadcast behavior to send packets as long as one net client can receive. Packets simply get queued for the net clients that are temporarily unable to receive. Reported-by: Roy.Li <rongqing.li@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Stefan Hajnoczi <stefanha@linux.vnet.ibm.com>

2012-08-01net: Rename VLANClientState to NetClientStateStefan Hajnoczi1-13/+13
The vlan feature is no longer part of net core. Rename VLANClientState to NetClientState because net clients are not explicitly associated with a vlan at all, instead they have a peer net client to which they are connected. This patch is a mechanical search-and-replace except for a few whitespace fixups where changing VLANClientState to NetClientState misaligned whitespace. 2012-08-01net: Convert qdev_prop_vlan to peer with hubZhi Yong Wu1-0/+25
Instead of using VLANState use net/hub.h to support the vlan qdev property. The vlan qdev property becomes an alias for the peer qdev property but is represented as a VLAN ID number. When a VLAN ID is selected the device will really peer with a hub port. 2012-08-01net: Drop vlan argument to qemu_new_net_client()Stefan Hajnoczi1-1/+1
Since hubs are now used to implement the 'vlan' feature and the vlan argument is always NULL, remove the argument entirely and update all net clients that use qemu_new_net_client(). 2012-08-01hub: Check that hubs are configured correctlyStefan Hajnoczi1-0/+45
Checks can be performed to make sure that hubs have at least one NIC and one host device, warning the user if this is not the case. Configurations which do not meet this rule tend to be broken but just emit a warning. This patch preserves compatibility with the checks performed by net core on vlans. 2012-08-01net: Add a hub net clientStefan Hajnoczi1-0/+223
The vlan feature can be implemented in terms of hubs. By introducing a hub net client it becomes possible to remove the special case vlan code from net.c and push the vlan feature out of generic networking code.
