The Aspeed Watchdog and Timer models have a link pointing to the SCU controller model of the machine. Change the "scu" property definition so that it explicitly sets the pointer. The property isn't optional : not being able to set the link is a bug and QEMU should rather abort than exit in this case. 2019-12-16watchdog/aspeed: Fix AST2600 frequency behaviourJoel Stanley1-4/+17
The AST2600 control register sneakily changed the meaning of bit 4 without anyone noticing. It no longer controls the 1MHz vs APB clock select, and instead always runs at 1MHz. The AST2500 was always 1MHz too, but it retained bit 4, making it read only. We can model both using the same fixed 1MHz calculation. 2019-10-15ptimer: Rename ptimer_init() to ptimer_init_with_bh()Peter Maydell1-1/+1
Currently the ptimer design uses a QEMU bottom-half as its mechanism for calling back into the device model using the ptimer when the timer has expired. Unfortunately this design is fatally flawed, because it means that there is a lag between the ptimer updating its own state and the device callback function updating device state, and guest accesses to device registers between the two can return inconsistent device state. We want to replace the bottom-half design with one where the guest device's callback is called either immediately (when the ptimer triggers by timeout) or when the device model code closes a transaction-begin/end section (when the ptimer triggers because the device model changed the ptimer's count value or other state). As the first step, rename ptimer_init() to ptimer_init_with_bh(), to free up the ptimer_init() name for the new API. We can then convert all the ptimer users away from ptimer_init_with_bh() before removing it entirely. (Commit created with git grep -l ptimer_init | xargs sed -i -e 's/ptimer_init/ptimer_init_with_bh/' and three overlong lines folded by hand.) 2019-08-16sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster1-1/+1
sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. 2019-07-01aspeed: Link SCU to the watchdogJoel Stanley1-0/+20
The ast2500 uses the watchdog to reset the SDRAM controller. This operation is usually performed by u-boot's memory training procedure, and it is enabled by setting a bit in the SCU and then causing the watchdog to expire. Therefore, we need the watchdog to be able to access the SCU's register space. This causes the watchdog to not perform a system reset when the bit is set. In the future it could perform a reset of the SDMC model. Instead of including the same list of devices for each target, set CONFIG_PCI to true, and make the devices default to present whenever PCI is available. However, s390x does not want all the PCI devices, so there is a separate symbol to enable them. Most list head structs need not be given a name. In most cases the name is given just in case one is going to use QTAILQ_LAST, QTAILQ_PREV or reverse iteration, but this does not apply to lists of other kinds, and even for QTAILQ in practice this is only rarely needed. In addition, we will soon reimplement those macros completely so that they do not need a name for the head struct. The previous commit improved compile time by including less of the generated QAPI headers. This is impossible for stuff defined directly in qapi-schema.json, because that ends up in headers that that pull in everything. Move everything but include directives from qapi-schema.json to new sub-module qapi/misc.json, then include just the "misc" shard where possible. It's possible everywhere, except: * monitor.c needs qmp-command.h to get qmp_init_marshal() * monitor.c, ui/vnc.c and the generated qapi-event-FOO.c need qapi-event.h to get enum QAPIEvent Perhaps we'll get rid of those some other day. Adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 120 instead of 2300 out of 5100 objects. In my "build everything" tree, a change to the types in qapi-schema.json triggers a recompile of about 4800 out of 5100 objects. The previous commit split up qmp-commands.h, qmp-event.h, qmp-visit.h, qapi-types.h. Each of these headers still includes all its shards. Reduce compile time by including just the shards we actually need. To illustrate the benefits: adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 2300 instead of 4800 objects. The next commit will improve it further. The reset width register controls how the pulse on the SoC's WDTRST{1,2} pins behaves. A pulse is emitted if the external reset bit is set in WDT_CTRL. On the AST2500 WDT_RESET_WIDTH can consume magic bit patterns to configure push-pull/open-drain and active-high/active-low behaviours and thus needs some special handling in the write path. As some of the capabilities depend on the SoC version a silicon-rev property is introduced, which is used to guard version-specific behaviour. Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or reset to use the enum added in the previous patch. It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots; changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly categorized all callers. Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the information to reset requests. The Aspeed SoC includes a set of watchdog timers using 32-bit decrement counters, which can be based either on the APB clock or a 1 MHz clock. The watchdog timer is designed to prevent system deadlock and, in general, it should be restarted before timeout. When a timeout occurs, different types of signals can be generated, ARM reset, SOC reset, System reset, CPU Interrupt, external signal or boot from alternate block. The current model only performs the system reset function as this is used by U-Boot and Linux. When configured to inject an NMI, watchdog_perform_action() may cause the BQL to be temporarily relinquished (inject_nmi() → ... → s390_nmi() → s390_cpu_restart() → run_on_cpu()). When the guest issues diag 288 again in response to the NMI, the diag 288 operation will race against wdt_diag288_reset(). Depending on scheduler behaviour, wdt_diag288_reset() may be run after the guest issued a diag 288 Init. As a result, we will cancel the timer the guest just set up. The effect observed by the guest is that a second expiry does not trigger the watchdog action and diag 288 Change operations fail. Fix this by resetting the timer _before_ invoking the action.
