2020-09-25load_elf: Remove unused address variables from callersBALATON Zoltan1-4/+4
Several callers of load_elf() pass pointers for lowaddr and highaddr parameters which are then not used for anything. This may stem from a misunderstanding that load_elf need a value here but in fact it can take NULL to ignore these values. Remove such unused variables and pass NULL instead from callers that don't need these. 2020-08-21trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requiresPaolo Bonzini1-0/+1
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using $(build_root)/$(<D). In order to keep the include directives unchanged, the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like "trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h". This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the Meson rewrite of the tracing logic. 2020-02-19alpha/dp264: use memdev for RAMIgor Mammedov3-8/+5
memory_region_allocate_system_memory() API is going away, so replace it with memdev allocated MemoryRegion. The later is initialized by generic code, so board only needs to opt in to memdev scheme by providing MachineClass::default_ram_id and using MachineState::ram instead of manually initializing RAM memory region. 2020-01-29hw/core/loader: Let load_elf() populate a field with CPU-specific flagsAleksandar Markovic1-2/+2
While loading the executable, some platforms (like AVR) need to detect CPU type that executable is built for - and, with this patch, this is enabled by reading the field 'e_flags' of the ELF header of the executable in question. The change expands functionality of the following functions: - load_elf() - load_elf_as() - load_elf_ram() - load_elf_ram_sym() The argument added to these functions is called 'pflags' and is of type 'uint32_t*' (that matches 'pointer to 'elf_word'', 'elf_word' being the type of the field 'e_flags', in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants of ELF header). Callers are allowed to pass NULL as that argument, and in such case no lookup to the field 'e_flags' will happen, and no information will be returned, of course. 2019-08-16Clean up inclusion of sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster2-2/+0
In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one from char/serial.h to char/serial.c. hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway. This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that. In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/irq.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/hw.h supposedly includes it for convenience. Several other headers include it just to get qemu_irq and.or qemu_irq_handler. Move the qemu_irq and qemu_irq_handler typedefs from hw/irq.h to qemu/typedefs.h, and then include hw/irq.h only where it's still needed. Touching it now recompiles only some 500 objects. 2019-02-05elf: Add optional function ptr to load_elf() to parse ELF notesLiam Merwick1-2/+2
This patch adds an optional function pointer, 'elf_note_fn', to load_elf() which causes load_elf() to additionally parse any ELF program headers of type PT_NOTE and check to see if the ELF Note is of the type specified by the 'translate_opaque' arg. If a matching ELF Note is found then the specfied function pointer is called to process the ELF note. Passing a NULL function pointer results in ELF Notes being skipped. The first consumer of this functionality is the PVHboot support which needs to read the XEN_ELFNOTE_PHYS32_ENTRY ELF Note while loading the uncompressed kernel binary in order to discover the boot entry address for the x86/HVM direct boot ABI. 2019-01-08hw/alpha/typhoon: Stop calling cpu_unassigned_access()Peter Maydell1-20/+27
The typhoon MemoryRegionOps callbacks directly call cpu_unassigned_access(), presumably as the old-fashioned way to provoke a CPU exception. This won't work since commit 6ad4d7eed05a1e235 when we switched Alpha over to the transaction_failed hook API, because now cpu_unassigned_access() is a no-op for Alpha. Make the MemoryRegionOps callbacks use the read_with_attrs and write_with_attrs hooks, so they can signal a failure that should cause a CPU exception by returning MEMTX_ERROR. 2017-12-05pci: Rename root bus initialization functions for clarityDavid Gibson1-4/+4
pci_bus_init(), pci_bus_new_inplace(), pci_bus_new() and pci_register_bus() are misleadingly named. They're not used for initializing *any* PCI bus, but only for a root PCI bus. Non-root buses - i.e. ones under a logical PCI to PCI bridge - are instead created with a direct qbus_create_inplace() (see pci_bridge_initfn()). Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way and aborts process. Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check for failure, though they should have checked for it. In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal, so instead of checking for failure and reporting it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure. cpu_alpha_init() used to provide default fallback if invalid (i.e. non existent) cpu_model were provided. dp264 machine provides its own default so sole user of fallback is [bsd|linux]-user targets which specifies 'any' cpu model that fallbacks to "ev67" in cpu_alpha_init(). Push fallback handling into alpha_cpu_class_by_name() and replace cpu_alpha_init() with cpu_generic_init().
