2016-10-13migrate: move max-bandwidth and downtime-limit to migrate_set_parameterAshijeet Acharya1-0/+27
Mark the old commands 'migrate_set_speed' and 'migrate_set_downtime' as deprecated. Move max-bandwidth and downtime-limit into migrate-set-parameters for setting maximum migration speed and expected downtime limit parameters respectively. Change downtime units to milliseconds (only for new-command) and set its upper bound limit to 2000 seconds. Update the query part in both hmp and qmp qemu control interfaces. 2016-10-13migrate: Share common MigrationParameters structEric Blake1-2/+7
It is rather verbose, and slightly error-prone, to repeat the same set of parameters for input (migrate-set-parameters) as for output (query-migrate-parameters), where the only difference is whether the members are optional. We can just document that the optional members will always be present on output, and then share a common struct between both commands. The next patch can then reduce the amount of code needed on input. Also, we made a mistake in qemu 2.7 of returning an empty string during 'query-migrate-parameters' when there is no TLS, rather than omitting TLS details entirely. Technically, this change risks breaking any 2.7 client that is hard-coded to expect the parameter's existence; on the other hand, clients that are portable to 2.6 already must be prepared for those members to not be present. And this gets rid of yet one more place where the QMP output visitor is silently converting a NULL string into "" (which is a hack I ultimately want to kill off). 2016-09-05drive-backup: added support for data compressionPavel Butsykin1-0/+3
The idea is simple - backup is "written-once" data. It is written block by block and it is large enough. It would be nice to save storage space and compress it. The patch adds a flag to the qmp/hmp drive-backup command which enables block compression. Compression should be implemented in the format driver to enable this feature. There are some limitations of the format driver to allow compressed writes. We can write data only once. Though for backup this is perfectly fine. These limitations are maintained by the driver and the error will be reported if we are doing something wrong. 2016-07-06qapi: Add new visit_complete() functionEric Blake1-6/+5
Making each output visitor provide its own output collection function was the only remaining reason for exposing visitor sub-types to the rest of the code base. Add a polymorphic visit_complete() function which is a no-op for input visitors, and which populates an opaque pointer for output visitors. For maximum type-safety, also add a parameter to the output visitor constructors with a type-correct version of the output pointer, and assert that the two uses match. This approach was considered superior to either passing the output parameter only during construction (action at a distance during visit_free() feels awkward) or only during visit_complete() (defeating type safety makes it easier to use incorrectly). Most callers were function-local, and therefore a mechanical conversion; the testsuite was a bit trickier, but the previous cleanup patch minimized the churn here. The visit_complete() function may be called at most once; doing so lets us use transfer semantics rather than duplication or ref-count semantics to get the just-built output back to the caller, even though it means our behavior is not idempotent. 2016-05-26migration: define 'tls-creds' and 'tls-hostname' migration parametersDaniel P. Berrange1-6/+38
Define two new migration parameters to be used with TLS encryption. The 'tls-creds' parameter provides the ID of an instance of the 'tls-creds' object type, or rather a subclass such as 'tls-creds-x509'. Providing these credentials will enable use of TLS on the migration data stream. If using x509 certificates, together with a migration URI that does not include a hostname, the 'tls-hostname' parameter provides the hostname to use when verifying the server's x509 certificate. This allows TLS to be used in combination with fd: and exec: protocols where a TCP connection is established by a 3rd party outside of QEMU. NB, this requires changing the migrate_set_parameter method in the HMP to accept a 's' (string) value instead of 'i' (integer). This is backwards compatible, because the parsing of strings allows the quotes to be optional, thus any integer is also a valid string. 2016-05-26migration: add reporting of errors for outgoing migrationDaniel P. Berrange1-1/+12
Currently if an application initiates an outgoing migration, it may or may not, get an error reported back on failure. If the error occurs synchronously to the 'migrate' command execution, the client app will see the error message. This is the case for DNS lookup failures. If the error occurs asynchronously to the monitor command though, the error will be thrown away and the client left guessing about what went wrong. This is the case for failure to connect to the TCP server (eg due to wrong port, or firewall rules, or other similar errors). In the future we'll be adding more scope for errors to happen asynchronously with the TLS protocol handshake. TLS errors are hard to diagnose even when they are well reported, so discarding errors entirely will make it impossible to debug TLS connection problems. 2016-03-18qapi: Don't special-case simple union wrappersEric Blake1-4/+4
Simple unions were carrying a special case that hid their 'data' QMP member from the resulting C struct, via the hack method QAPISchemaObjectTypeVariant.simple_union_type(). But by using the work we started by unboxing flat union and alternate branches, coupled with the ability to visit the members of an implicit type, we can now expose the simple union's implicit type in qapi-types.h: | struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper { | ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *data; | }; | | struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper { | ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *data; | }; ... | struct ImageInfoSpecific { | ImageInfoSpecificKind type; | union { /* union tag is @type */ | void *data; |- ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *qcow2; |- ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *vmdk; |+ q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper qcow2; |+ q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper vmdk; | } u; | }; Doing this removes asymmetry between QAPI's QMP side and its C side (both sides now expose 'data'), and means that the treatment of a simple union as sugar for a flat union is now equivalent in both languages (previously the two approaches used a different layer of dereferencing, where the simple union could be converted to a flat union with equivalent C layout but different {} on the wire, or to an equivalent QMP wire form but with different C representation). Using the implicit type also lets us get rid of the simple_union_type() hack. Of course, now all clients of simple unions have to adjust from using su->u.member to using su->u.member.data; while this touches a number of files in the tree, some earlier cleanup patches helped minimize the change to the initialization of a temporary variable rather than every single member access. The generated qapi-visit.c code is also affected by the layout change: |@@ -7393,10 +7393,10 @@ void visit_type_ImageInfoSpecific_member | } | switch (obj->type) { | case IMAGE_INFO_SPECIFIC_KIND_QCOW2: |- visit_type_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2(v, "data", &obj->u.qcow2, &err); |+ visit_type_q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper_members(v, &obj->u.qcow2, &err); | break; | case IMAGE_INFO_SPECIFIC_KIND_VMDK: |- visit_type_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk(v, "data", &obj->u.vmdk, &err); |+ visit_type_q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper_members(v, &obj->u.vmdk, &err); | break; | default: | abort(); Signed-off-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Message-Id: <1458254921-17042-13-git-send-email-eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Markus Armbruster <armbru@redhat.com>

2016-02-19qapi: Don't box branches of flat unionsEric Blake1-6/+6
There's no reason to do two malloc's for a flat union; let's just inline the branch struct directly into the C union branch of the flat union. Surprisingly, fewer clients were actually using explicit references to the branch types in comparison to the number of flat unions thus modified. This lets us reduce the hack in qapi-types:gen_variants() added in the previous patch; we no longer need to distinguish between alternates and flat unions. The change to unboxed structs means that u.data (added in commit cee2dedb) is now coincident with random fields of each branch of the flat union, whereas beforehand it was only coincident with pointers (since all branches of a flat union have to be objects). Note that this was already the case for simple unions - but there we got lucky. Remember, visit_start_union() blindly returns true for all visitors except for the dealloc visitor, where it returns the value !!obj->u.data, and that this result then controls whether to proceed with the visit to the variant. Pre-patch, this meant that flat unions were testing whether the boxed pointer was still NULL, and thereby skipping visit_end_implicit_struct() and avoiding a NULL dereference if the pointer had not been allocated. The same was true for simple unions where the current branch had pointer type, except there we bypassed visit_type_FOO(). But for simple unions where the current branch had scalar type, the contents of that scalar meant that the decision to call visit_type_FOO() was data-dependent - the reason we got lucky there is that visit_type_FOO() for all scalar types in the dealloc visitor is a no-op (only the pointer variants had anything to free), so it did not matter whether the dealloc visit was skipped. But with this patch, we would risk leaking memory if we could skip a call to visit_type_FOO_fields() based solely on a data-dependent decision. But notice: in the dealloc visitor, visit_type_FOO() already handles a NULL obj - it was only the visit_type_implicit_FOO() that was failing to check for NULL. And now that we have refactored things to have the branch be part of the parent struct, we no longer have a separate pointer that can be NULL in the first place. So we can just delete the call to visit_start_union() altogether, and blindly visit the branch type; there is no change in behavior except to the dealloc visitor, where we now unconditionally visit the branch, but where that visit is now always safe (for a flat union, we can no longer dereference NULL, and for a simple union, visit_type_FOO() was already safely handling NULL on pointer types). Unfortunately, simple unions are not as easy to switch to unboxed layout; because we are special-casing the hidden implicit type with a single 'data' member, we really DO need to keep calling another layer of visit_start_struct(), with a second malloc; although there are some cleanups planned for simple unions in later patches. visit_start_union() and gen_visit_implicit_struct() are now unused. Drop them. Note that after this patch, the only remaining use of visit_start_implicit_struct() is for alternate types; the next patch will do further cleanup based on that fact. 2016-02-16qom: add helpers for UserCreatable object typesDaniel P. Berrange1-41/+11
The QMP monitor code has two helper methods object_add and qmp_object_del that are called from several places in the code (QMP, HMP and main emulator startup). The HMP and main emulator startup code also share further logic that extracts the qom-type & id values from a qdict. We soon need to use this logic from qemu-img, qemu-io and qemu-nbd too, but don't want those to depend on the monitor, nor do we want to duplicate the code. To avoid this, move some code out of qmp.c and hmp.c adding new methods to qom/object_interfaces.c - user_creatable_add - takes a QDict holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_type - takes an ID, type name, and QDict holding object properties & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts - takes a QemuOpts holding a full object definition & instantiates it - user_creatable_add_opts_foreach - variant on user_creatable_add_opts which can be directly used in conjunction with qemu_opts_foreach. - user_creatable_del - takes an ID and deletes the corresponding object The existing code is updated to use these new methods. 2016-02-08qapi: Swap visit_* arguments for consistent 'name' placementEric Blake1-4/+4
JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(), where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the 'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument. Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients. Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and those clients to match. Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle script to affect the rest of the code base: $ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'` I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors if any callers were missed. // Part 1: Swap declaration order @@ type TV, TErr, TObj, T1, T2; identifier OBJ, ARG1, ARG2; @@ void visit_start_struct -(TV v, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, const char *name, T2 ARG2, TErr errp) +(TV v, const char *name, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, T2 ARG2, TErr errp) { ... } @@ type bool, TV, T1; identifier ARG1; @@ bool visit_optional -(TV v, T1 ARG1, const char *name) +(TV v, const char *name, T1 ARG1) { ... } @@ type TV, TErr, TObj, T1; identifier OBJ, ARG1; @@ void visit_get_next_type -(TV v, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, const char *name, TErr errp) +(TV v, const char *name, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, TErr errp) { ... } @@ type TV, TErr, TObj, T1, T2; identifier OBJ, ARG1, ARG2; @@ void visit_type_enum -(TV v, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, T2 ARG2, const char *name, TErr errp) +(TV v, const char *name, TObj OBJ, T1 ARG1, T2 ARG2, TErr errp) { ... } @@ type TV, TErr, TObj; identifier OBJ; identifier VISIT_TYPE =~ "^visit_type_"; @@ void VISIT_TYPE -(TV v, TObj OBJ, const char *name, TErr errp) +(TV v, const char *name, TObj OBJ, TErr errp) { ... } // Part 2: swap caller order @@ expression V, NAME, OBJ, ARG1, ARG2, ERR; identifier VISIT_TYPE =~ "^visit_type_"; @@ ( -visit_start_struct(V, OBJ, ARG1, NAME, ARG2, ERR) +visit_start_struct(V, NAME, OBJ, ARG1, ARG2, ERR) | -visit_optional(V, ARG1, NAME) +visit_optional(V, NAME, ARG1) | -visit_get_next_type(V, OBJ, ARG1, NAME, ERR) +visit_get_next_type(V, NAME, OBJ, ARG1, ERR) | -visit_type_enum(V, OBJ, ARG1, ARG2, NAME, ERR) +visit_type_enum(V, NAME, OBJ, ARG1, ARG2, ERR) | -VISIT_TYPE(V, OBJ, NAME, ERR) +VISIT_TYPE(V, NAME, OBJ, ERR) ) Signed-off-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Marc-André Lureau <marcandre.lureau@redhat.com> Message-Id: <1454075341-13658-19-git-send-email-eblake@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Markus Armbruster <armbru@redhat.com>

Both error_report_err() and monitor_printf() print to the same destination when monitor_printf() is used correctly, i.e. within an HMP monitor. Elsewhere, monitor_printf() does nothing, while error_report_err() reports to stderr. Most changed functions are HMP command handlers. These should only run within an HMP monitor. The one exception is bdrv_password_cb(), which should also only run within an HMP monitor. Four command handlers prefix the error message with the command name: balloon, migrate_set_capability, migrate_set_parameter, migrate. Pointless, drop. Unlike monitor_printf(), error_report_err() uses the error whole instead of just its message obtained with error_get_pretty(). This avoids suppressing its hint (see commit 50b7b00). 2015-12-17cpu: Convert CpuInfo into flat unionEric Blake1-11/+19
The CpuInfo struct is used only by the 'query-cpus' output command, so we are free to modify it by adding fields (clients are already supposed to ignore unknown output fields), or by changing optional members to mandatory, while still keeping QMP wire compatibility with older versions of qemu. When qapi type CpuInfo was originally created for 0.14, we had no notion of a flat union, and instead just listed a bunch of optional fields with documentation about the mutually-exclusive choice of which instruction pointer field(s) would be provided for a given architecture. But now that we have flat unions and introspection, it is better to segregate off which fields will be provided according to the actual architecture. With this in place, we no longer need the fields to be optional, because the choice of the new 'arch' discriminator serves that role. This has an additional benefit: the old all-in-one struct was the only place in the code base that had a case-sensitive naming of members 'pc' vs. 'PC'. Separating these spellings into different branches of the flat union will allow us to add restrictions against future case-insensitive collisions, since that is generally a poor interface practice.
