There seems to be no benefit in using a field. Replace it with a local variable, and move the state update before the yields. The state update has do be done before the yields because now using a local variable does not allow the new updated state to be visible by the other yields. 2021-07-19blkdebug: do not suspend in the middle of QLIST_FOREACH_SAFEEmanuele Giuseppe Esposito1-1/+6
That would be unsafe in case a rule other than the current one is removed while the coroutine has yielded. Keep FOREACH_SAFE because suspend_request deletes the current rule. After this patch, *all* matching rules are deleted before suspending the coroutine, rather than just one. This doesn't affect the existing testcases. Use actions_count to see how many yield to issue. We want to move qemu_coroutine_yield() after the loop on rules, because QLIST_FOREACH_SAFE is wrong if the rule list is modified while the coroutine has yielded. Therefore move the suspended request to the heap and clean it up from the remove side. All that is left is for blkdebug_debug_event to handle the yielding. 2020-07-10error: Eliminate error_propagate() with Coccinelle, part 2Markus Armbruster1-5/+2
When all we do with an Error we receive into a local variable is propagating to somewhere else, we can just as well receive it there right away. The previous commit did that with a Coccinelle script I consider fairly trustworthy. This commit uses the same script with the matching of return taken out, i.e. we convert if (!foo(..., &err)) { ... error_propagate(errp, err); ... } to if (!foo(..., errp)) { ... ... } This is unsound: @err could still be read between afterwards. I don't know how to express "no read of @err without an intervening write" in Coccinelle. Instead, I manually double-checked for uses of @err. Suboptimal line breaks tweaked manually. qdev_realize() simplified further to placate scripts/checkpatch.pl. 2020-05-18block: Use bdrv_default_perms()Max Reitz1-2/+2
bdrv_default_perms() can decide which permission profile to use based on the BdrvChildRole, so block drivers do not need to select it explicitly. The blkverify driver now no longer shares the WRITE permission for the image to verify. We thus have to adjust two places in test-block-iothread not to take it. (Note that in theory, blkverify should behave like quorum in this regard and share neither WRITE nor RESIZE for both of its children. In practice, it does not really matter, because blkverify is used only for debugging, so we might as well keep its permissions rather liberal.) 2020-05-18block: Make filter drivers use child_of_bdsMax Reitz1-1/+3
Note that some filters have secondary children, namely blkverify (the image to be verified) and blklogwrites (the log). This patch does not touch those children. Note that for blkverify, the filtered child should not be format-probed. While there is nothing enforcing this here, in practice, it will not be: blkverify implements .bdrv_file_open. The block layer ensures (and in fact, asserts) that BDRV_O_PROTOCOL is set for every BDS whose driver implements .bdrv_file_open. This flag will then be bequeathed to blkverify's children, and they will thus (by default) not be probed either. ("By default" refers to the fact that blkverify's other child (the non-filtered one) will have BDRV_O_PROTOCOL force-unset, because that is what happens for all non-filtered children of non-format drivers.) It cannot really reflect a child's role, because different roles may overlap (as we will see when real roles are introduced), and because parents can have custom callbacks even when the child fulfills a standard role. Sometimes it is useful to be able to add a node to the block graph that takes or unshare a certain set of permissions for debugging purposes. This patch adds this capability to blkdebug. (Note that you cannot make blkdebug release or share permissions that it needs to take or cannot share, because this might result in assertion failures in the block layer. But if the blkdebug node has no parents, it will not take any permissions and share everything by default, so you can then freely choose what permissions to take and share.) 2019-06-14blkdebug: Add @iotype error optionMax Reitz1-9/+41
This new error option allows users of blkdebug to inject errors only on certain kinds of I/O operations. Users usually want to make a very specific operation fail, not just any; but right now they simply hope that the event that triggers the error injection is followed up with that very operation. That may not be true, however, because the block layer is changing (including blkdebug, which may increase the number of types of I/O operations on which to inject errors). The new option's default has been chosen to keep backwards compatibility. Note that similar to the internal representation, we could choose to expose this option as a list of I/O types. But there is no practical use for this, because as described above, users usually know exactly which kind of operation they want to make fail, so there is no need to specify multiple I/O types at once. In addition, exposing this option as a list would require non-trivial changes to qemu_opts_absorb_qdict(). 2019-02-25block: Purify .bdrv_refresh_filename()Max Reitz1-34/+20
Currently, BlockDriver.bdrv_refresh_filename() is supposed to both refresh the filename (BDS.exact_filename) and set BDS.full_open_options. Now that we have generic code in the central bdrv_refresh_filename() for creating BDS.full_open_options, we can drop the latter part from all BlockDriver.bdrv_refresh_filename() implementations. This also means that we can drop all of the existing default code for this from the global bdrv_refresh_filename() itself. Furthermore, we now have to call BlockDriver.bdrv_refresh_filename() after having set BDS.full_open_options, because the block driver's implementation should now be allowed to depend on BDS.full_open_options being set correctly. Finally, with this patch we can drop the @options parameter from BlockDriver.bdrv_refresh_filename(); also, add a comment on this function's purpose in block/block_int.h while touching its interface. This completely obsoletes blklogwrite's implementation of .bdrv_refresh_filename(). 2019-02-25block: Add strong_runtime_opts to BlockDriverMax Reitz1-0/+16
This new field can be set by block drivers to list the runtime options they accept that may influence the contents of the respective BDS. As of a follow-up patch, this list will be used by the common bdrv_refresh_filename() implementation to decide which options to put into BDS.full_open_options (and consequently whether a JSON filename has to be created), thus freeing the drivers of having to implement that logic themselves. Additionally, this patch adds the field to all of the block drivers that need it and sets it accordingly. 2018-05-15block: Support BDRV_REQ_WRITE_UNCHANGED in filtersMax Reitz1-4/+5
Update the rest of the filter drivers to support BDRV_REQ_WRITE_UNCHANGED. They already forward write request flags to their children, so we just have to announce support for it. This patch does not cover the replication driver because that currently does not support flags at all, and because it just grabs the WRITE permission for its children when it can, so we should be fine just submitting the incoming WRITE_UNCHANGED requests as normal writes. It also does not cover format drivers for similar reasons. They all use bdrv_format_default_perms() as their .bdrv_child_perm() implementation so they just always grab the WRITE permission for their file children whenever possible. In addition, it often would be difficult to ascertain whether incoming unchanging writes end up as unchanging writes in their files. So we just leave them as normal potentially changing writes. Now that we can safely call QOBJECT() on QObject * as well as its subtypes, we can have macros qobject_ref() / qobject_unref() that work everywhere instead of having to use QINCREF() / QDECREF() for QObject and qobject_incref() / qobject_decref() for its subtypes. 2017-10-26block: Align block status requestsEric Blake1-1/+12
Any device that has request_alignment greater than 512 should be unable to report status at a finer granularity; it may also be simpler for such devices to be guaranteed that the block layer has rounded things out to the granularity boundary (the way the block layer already rounds all other I/O out). Besides, getting the code correct for super-sector alignment also benefits us for the fact that our public interface now has byte granularity, even though none of our drivers have byte-level callbacks. Add an assertion in blkdebug that proves that the block layer never requests status of unaligned sections, similar to what it does on other requests (while still keeping the generic helper in place for when future patches add a throttle driver). Note that iotest 177 already covers this (it would fail if you use just the blkdebug.c hunk without the io.c changes). Meanwhile, we can drop assertions in callers that no longer have to pass in sector-aligned addresses. There is a mid-function scope added for 'count' and 'longret', for a couple of reasons: first, an upcoming patch will add an 'if' statement that checks whether a driver has an old- or new-style callback, and can conveniently use the same scope for less indentation churn at that time. Second, since we are trying to get rid of sector-based computations, wrapping things in a scope makes it easier to group and see what will be deleted in a final cleanup patch once all drivers have been converted to the new-style callback.
