2019-02-22Break some lines before not after operators.Joseph Myers1-3/+3
The GNU Coding Standards specify that line breaks in expressions should go before an operator, not after one. This patch fixes various code to do this. It only changes code that appears to be mostly following GNU style anyway, not files and directories with substantially different formatting. It is not exhaustive even for files using GNU style (for example, changes to sysdeps files are deferred for subsequent cleanups). Some files changed are shared with gnulib, but most are specific to glibc. Changes were made manually, with places to change found by grep (so some cases, e.g. where the operator was followed by a comment at end of line, are particularly liable to have been missed by grep, but I did include cases where the operator was followed by backslash-newline). This patch generally does not attempt to address other coding style issues in the expressions changed (for example, missing spaces before '(', or lack of parentheses to ensure indentation of continuation lines properly reflects operator precedence). 2019-02-15Fix implicit-fallthrough warnings in tst-setjmp.c.Joseph Myers1-1/+1
Building the testsuite with -Wextra (together with -Wno-cast-function-type -Wno-clobbered -Wno-expansion-to-defined -Wno-missing-field-initializers -Wno-old-style-declaration -Wno-shift-negative-value -Wno-sign-compare -Wno-type-limits -Wno-unused-parameter, which reflect the set of -Wextra warnings for which glibc itself is not currently clean on x86_64) showed up implicit-fallthrough warnings in tst-setjmp.c. Those warnings appear to be false positives, arising from a function "jump" that calls longjmp not itself being marked as noreturn; thus, this patch adds the noreturn marking to that function to fix the warnings. Tested for x86_64. * setjmp/tst-setjmp.c (jump): Use __attribute__ ((__noreturn__)).

2018-05-02x86: Use pad in pthread_unwind_buf to preserve shadow stack registerH.J. Lu1-0/+2
The pad array in struct pthread_unwind_buf is used by setjmp to save shadow stack register. We assert that size of struct pthread_unwind_buf is no less than offset of shadow stack pointer + shadow stack pointer size. Since functions, like LIBC_START_MAIN, START_THREAD_DEFN as well as these with thread cancellation, call setjmp, but never return after __libc_unwind_longjmp, __libc_unwind_longjmp, which is defined as __libc_longjmp on x86, doesn't need to restore shadow stack register. __libc_longjmp, which is a private interface for thread cancellation implementation in libpthread, is changed to call __longjmp_cancel, instead of __longjmp. __longjmp_cancel is a new internal function in libc, which is similar to __longjmp, but doesn't restore shadow stack register. The compatibility longjmp and siglongjmp in libpthread.so are changed to call __libc_siglongjmp, instead of __libc_longjmp, so that they will restore shadow stack register. Tested with build-many-glibcs.py. Signed-off-by: H.J. 2017-11-30x86: Make a space in jmpbuf for shadow stack pointerH.J. Lu2-4/+5
To support Shadow Stack (SHSTK) in Intel Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET) in setjmp/longjmp, we need to save shadow stack pointer in jmp_buf. The __saved_mask field in jmp_buf has type of __sigset_t. On Linux, __sigset_t is defined as #define _SIGSET_NWORDS (1024 / (8 * sizeof (unsigned long int))) typedef struct { unsigned long int __val[_SIGSET_NWORDS]; } __sigset_t; which is much bigger than expected by the __sigprocmask system call, which has typedef struct { unsigned long sig[_NSIG_WORDS]; } sigset_t; For Linux/x86, we can shrink __sigset_t used by __saved_mask in jmp_buf to add paddings for shadow stack pointer. As long as the new __sigset_t is not smaller than sigset_t expected by the __sigprocmask system call, it should work correctly. This patch adds an internal header file, <setjmpP.h>, to define __jmp_buf_sigset_t for __saved_mask in jmp_buf for Linux/x86 with a space to store shadow stack pointer. It verifies __jmp_buf_sigset_t has the suitable size for the __sigprocmask system call. A run-time test, tst-saved_mask-1.c, is added to verify that size of __jmp_buf_sigset_t is sufficient. If its size is too small, the test fails with rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, strace: umoven: short read (4 < 8) @0x7fa8aa28effc 0x7fa8aa28effc, NULL, 8) = -1 EFAULT (Bad address) rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, strace: umoven: short read (4 < 8) @0x7fa8aa28effc 0x7fa8aa28effc, NULL, 8) = -1 EFAULT (Bad address) rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, NULL, 0x7fa8aa28effc, 8) = -1 EFAULT (Bad address) exit_group(1) = ? 2017-05-20Remove __need macros from signal.h.Zack Weinberg1-2/+1
The types affected are __sig_atomic_t, sig_atomic_t, __sigset_t, sigset_t, sigval_t, sigevent_t, and siginfo_t. __sig_atomic_t is a scalar, so it's now directly available from bits/types.h. The others get bits/types/ headers. Side effects include: There have been small changes to which non-signal headers expose which subset of the signal-related types. A couple of architectures' nested siginfo_t fields had to be renamed to prevent undesired macro expansion. Internal code that wants to manipulate signal masks must now include <sigsetops.h> (which is not installed) and should be aware that __sigaddset, __sigandset, __sigdelset, __sigemptyset, and __sigorset no longer return a value (unlike the public API). Relatedly, the public signal.h no longer declares any of those functions. The obsolete sigmask() macro no longer has a system-specific definition -- in the cases where it matters, it didn't work anyway. New Linux architectures should create bits/siginfo-arch.h and/or bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h to customize their siginfo_t, rather than duplicating everything in bits/siginfo.h (which no longer exists). Add new __SI_* macros if necessary. Ports to other operating systems are strongly encouraged to generalize this scheme further. * bits/sigevent-consts.h * bits/siginfo-consts.h * bits/types/__sigset_t.h * bits/types/sigevent_t.h * bits/types/siginfo_t.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/sigevent-consts.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/siginfo-consts.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/types/__sigset_t.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/types/sigevent_t.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/types/siginfo_t.h: New system-dependent bits headers. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/siginfo-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/siginfo-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/bits/siginfo-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/bits/siginfo-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/tile/bits/siginfo-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/tile/bits/siginfo-consts-arch.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86/bits/siginfo-arch.h: New Linux-only system-dependent bits headers. * signal/bits/types/sig_atomic_t.h * signal/bits/types/sigset_t.h * signal/bits/types/sigval_t.h: New non-system-dependent bits headers. * sysdeps/generic/sigsetops.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigsetops.h: New internal headers. * include/bits/types/sig_atomic_t.h * include/bits/types/sigset_t.h * include/bits/types/sigval_t.h: New wrappers. * signal/sigsetops.h * bits/siginfo.h * bits/sigset.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/sigset.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/ia64/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/tile/bits/siginfo.h * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86/bits/siginfo.h: Deleted. * signal/Makefile, sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/Makefile: Update lists of installed headers. * posix/bits/types.h: Define __sig_atomic_t here. * signal/signal.h: Use the new bits headers; no need to handle __need_sig_atomic_t nor __need_sigset_t. 2017-03-16Remove C++ namespace handling from glibc headers.Joseph Myers1-8/+0
glibc headers include some code (not particularly consistent or systematic) to put various declarations in C++ namespaces std and __c99, if _GLIBCPP_USE_NAMESPACES is defined. As noted in <https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2017-03/msg00025.html>, this macro was removed from libstdc++ in 2000. I don't expect compilation with such old versions of libstdc++ to work with current glibc headers anyway (whereas old *binaries* are expected to stay working with current glibc); this patch (which should be a no-op with any libstdc++ version postdating that removal) removes all this code from the glibc headers. The begin-end-check.pl test, whose comments say it is about checking these namespace macro calls, is also removed. The code in that test would have covered __BEGIN_DECLS / __END_DECLS as well, but if those weren't properly matched it would show up with the check-installed-headers-cxx tests, so I don't think there is an actual use for keeping begin-end-check.pl with the namespace code removed. 2014-12-30Fix some warnings in the absence of FP round/exception supportChris Metcalf1-1/+1
Due to tile missing a bunch of FP exception and rounding support, the tests generate warnings. These changes fix the warnings by just not compiling some unused functions, and adding some attribute ((unused)) tags.
2014-11-26Fix warning in setjmp/jmpbug.c.Joseph Myers1-1/+2
This patch fixes a "set but not used" warning in setjmp/jmpbug.c. A variable is used only to store the result of alloca. A cast to void is added to avoid the warning, and the variable is made volatile to ensure the call to alloca isn't optimized away for being unused. Tested for x86_64. * setjmp/jmpbug.c (test): Make foo volatile and cast it to void.

2014-05-16Use existing makefile variables for dependencies on glibc libraries.Joseph Myers1-6/+1
glibc's Makeconfig defines some variables such as $(libm) and $(libdl) for linking with libraries built by glibc, and nptl/Makeconfig (included by the toplevel Makeconfig) defines others such as $(shared-thread-library). In some places glibc's Makefiles use those variables when linking against the relevant libraries, but in other places they hardcode the location of the libraries in the build tree. This patch cleans up various places to use the variables that already exist (in the case of libm, replacing several duplicate definitions of a $(link-libm) variable in subdirectory Makefiles). (It's not necessarily exactly equivalent to what the existing code does - in particular, $(shared-thread-library) includes libpthread_nonshared, but is replacing places that just referred to libpthread.so. But I think that change is desirable on the general principle of linking things as close as possible to the way in which they would be linked with an installed library, unless there is a clear reason not to do so.) To support running tests with an installed copy of glibc without needing the full build tree from when that copy was built, I think it will be useful to use such variables more generally and systematically - every time the rules for building a test refer to some file from the build tree that's also installed by glibc, use a makefile variable so that the installed-testing case can point those variables to installed copies of the files. This patch just deals with straightforward cases where such variables already exist. It's quite possible some uses of $(shared-thread-library) should actually be a new $(thread-library) variable that's set appropriately in the --disable-shared case, if those uses would in fact work without shared libraries. I didn't change the status quo that those cases hardcode use of a shared library whether or not it's actually needed (but other uses such as $(libm) and $(libdl) would now get the static library if the shared library isn't built, when some previously hardcoded use of the shared library - if they actually need shared libraries, the test itself needs an enable-shared conditional anyway). 2014-02-26Consistently include Makeconfig after defining subdir.Joseph Myers1-0/+2
In <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00196.html> I noted it was necessary to add includes of Makeconfig early in various subdirectory makefiles for the tests-special variable settings added by that patch to be conditional on configuration information. No-one commented on the general question there of whether Makeconfig should always be included immediately after the definition of subdir. This patch implements that early inclusion of Makeconfig in each directory (which is a lot easier than consistent placement of includes of Rules). Includes are added if needed, or moved up if already present. Subdirectory "all:" targets are removed, since Makeconfig provides one. There is potential for further cleanups I haven't done. Rules and Makerules have code such as ifneq "$(findstring env,$(origin headers))" "" headers := endif to override to empty any value of various variables that came from the environment. I think there is a case for Makeconfig setting all the subdirectory variables (other than subdir) to empty to ensure no outside value is going to take effect if a subdirectory fails to define a variable. (A list of such variables, possibly out of date and incomplete, is in manual/maint.texi.) Rules and Makerules would give errors if Makeconfig hadn't already been included, instead of including it themselves. The special code to override values coming from the environment would then be obsolete and could be removed. Tested x86_64, including that installed binaries are identical before and after the patch. * argp/Makefile: Include Makeconfig immediately after defining subdir. * assert/Makefile: Likewise. * benchtests/Makefile: Likewise. * catgets/Makefile: Likewise. * conform/Makefile: Likewise. * crypt/Makefile: Likewise. * csu/Makefile: Likewise. 2014-02-12Combine __USE_BSD and __USE_SVID into __USE_MISC.Joseph Myers1-1/+1
This patch cleans up following the obsoletion of _BSD_SOURCE and _SVID_SOURCE by combining __USE_BSD and __USE_SVID into __USE_MISC. The only non-mechanical part of this patch is the changes to features.h; everything else is simple substitution of __USE_MISC for the old macros. Thus, this patch leaves obviously redundant conditionals such as "defined __USE_MISC || defined __USE_MISC", and does not update #endif comments where they referred to BSD or SVID in words instead of the literal macro name. This is intended to facilitate patch review by separating the less mechanical changes from these purely mechanical changes into a separate patch. (I do intend to integrate all the changes from <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2013-12/msg00226.html>, which I believe includes all the trailing comment updates, in subsequent patches.)
