2022-03-17x86: never set i386_cpu_flags' "unused" fieldJan Beulich1-1/+1
Setting this field risks cpu_flags_all_zero() mistakenly returning "false" when the object passed in was e.g. the result of ANDing together two objects which had the bit set, or ANDNing together an object with the field set and one with the field clear. While there also avoid setting CpuNo64: Like Cpu64 this is driven differently anyway and hence shouldn't be set anywhere by default. Note that the moving of the two items in i386-gen.c's cpu_flags[] is only for documentation purposes (and slight reducing of overhead), as the fields are sorted anyway upon program start.
2022-03-17x86: unify CPU flag on/off processingJan Beulich1-1/+1
There's no need for the arbitrary special "unknown" token: Simply recognize the leading ~ and process everything else the same, merely recording whether to set individual fields to 1 or 0. While there exclude CpuIAMCU from CPU_UNKNOWN_FLAGS - CPU_IAMCU_FLAGS override cpu_arch_flags anyway when -march=iamcu is passed, and there's no reason to have the stray flag set even if no insn actually is keyed to it.
2022-03-17x86: drop L1OM/K1OM support from gasJan Beulich1-390/+372
This was only rudimentary support anyway; none of the sub-architecture specific insns were ever supported.
2022-03-17x86: assorted IAMCU CPU checking fixesJan Beulich1-1/+1
The checks done by check_cpu_arch_compatible() were halfway sensible only at the time where only L1OM support was there. The purpose, however, has always been to prevent bad uses of .arch (turning off the base CPU "feature" flag) while at the same time permitting extensions to be enabled / disabled. In order to achieve this (and to prevent regressions when L1OM and K1OM support are removed) - set CpuIAMCU in CPU_IAMCU_FLAGS, - adjust the IAMCU check in the function itself (the other two similarly broken checks aren't adjusted as they're slated to be removed anyway), - avoid calling the function for extentions (which would never have the base "feature" flag set), - add a new testcase actually exercising ".arch iamcu" (which would also regress with the planned removal).
2022-01-02Update year range in copyright notice of binutils filesAlan Modra1-1/+1
The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently. The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit breaks building of bfp opcodes files.
2021-08-05[PATCH 1/2] Enable Intel AVX512_FP16 instructionsCui,Lili1-251/+269
Intel AVX512 FP16 instructions use maps 3, 5 and 6. Maps 5 and 6 use 3 bits in the EVEX.mmm field (0b101, 0b110). Map 5 is for instructions that were FP32 in map 1 (0Fxx). Map 6 is for instructions that were FP32 in map 2 (0F38xx). There are some exceptions to this rule. Some things in map 1 (0Fxx) with imm8 operands predated our current conventions; those instructions moved to map 3. FP32 things in map 3 (0F3Axx) found new opcodes in map3 for FP16 because map3 is very sparsely populated. Most of the FP16 instructions share opcodes and prefix (EVEX.pp) bits with the related FP32 operations. Intel AVX512 FP16 instructions has new displacements scaling rules, please refer to the public software developer manual for detail information. gas/ 2021-08-05 Igor Tsimbalist <igor.v.tsimbalist@intel.com> H.J. 2020-02-17x86: Remove CpuABM and add CpuPOPCNTH.J. Lu1-116/+124
AMD ABM has 2 instructions: popcnt and lzcnt. ABM CPUID feature bit has been reused for lzcnt and a POPCNT CPUID feature bit is added for popcnt which used to be the part of SSE4.2. 2020-02-16x86: Don't disable SSE4a when disabling SSE4H.J. Lu1-2/+2
commit 7deea9aad8 changed nosse4 to include CpuSSE4a. But AMD SSE4a is a superset of SSE3 and Intel SSE4 is a superset of SSSE3. Disable Intel SSE4 shouldn't disable AMD SSE4a. This patch restores nosse4. It also adds .sse4a and nosse4a. gas/ * config/tc-i386.c (cpu_arch): Add .sse4a and nosse4a. 2020-02-13x86: fix SSE4a dependencies of ".arch .nosse*"Jan Beulich1-2/+10
Since ".arch .sse4a" enables SSE3 and earlier, disabling SSE3 should also disable SSE4a. And as per its name, ".arch .nosse4" should also do so.

2019-11-14x86: make JumpAbsolute an insn attributeJan Beulich1-61/+57
... instead of an operand one: There's only ever one operand here anyway.
2019-11-12x86: fold EsSeg into IsStringJan Beulich1-60/+56
EsSeg (a per-operand bit) is used with IsString (a per-insn attribute) only. Extend the attribute to 2 bits, thus allowing to encode - not a string insn, - string insn with neither operand requiring use of %es:, - string insn with 1st operand requiring use of %es:, - string insn with 2nd operand requiring use of %es:, which covers all possible cases, allowing to drop EsSeg. The (transient) need to comment out the OTUnused #define did uncover an oversight in the earlier OTMax -> OTNum conversion, which is being taken care of here.
2019-11-12x86: introduce operand type "instance"Jan Beulich1-84/+84
Special register "class" instances can't be combined with one another (neither in templates nor in register entries), and hence it is not a good use of resources (memory as well as execution time) to represent them as individual bits of a bit field. Furthermore the generalization becoming possible will allow improvements to the handling of insns accepting only individual registers as their operands.

2019-11-08x86: introduce operand type "class"Jan Beulich1-0/+4
Many operand types, in particular the various kinds of registers, can't be combined with one another (neither in templates nor in register entries), and hence it is not a good use of resources (memory as well as execution time) to represent them as individual bits of a bit field.

2019-07-16x86: make RegMem an opcode modifierJan Beulich1-48/+48
... instead of an operand type bit: It's an insn property, not an operand one. There's just one actual change to be made to the templates: Most are now required to have the (unswapped) destination go into ModR/M.rm, so VMOVD template needs its opcode adjusted accordingly and its operands swapped. {,V}MOVS{S,D}, otoh, are left alone in this regard, as otherwise generated code would differ from what we've been producing so far (which I don't think is wanted). Take the opportunity and add a missing IgnoreSize to pextrb (leading to an error in 16-bit mode), and take the liberty to once again drop stray IgnoreSize attributes from lines changed and neighboring related ones.
2019-07-16x86: fold SReg{2,3}Jan Beulich1-124/+71
They're the only exception to there generally being no mix of register kinds possible in an insn operand template, and there being two bits per operand for their representation is also quite wasteful, considering the low number of uses. Fold both bits and deal with the little bit of fallout. Also take the liberty and drop dead code trying to set REX_B: No segment register has RegRex set on it. Additionally I was quite surprised that PUSH/POP with the permitted segment registers is not covered by the test cases. Add the missing pieces.
2019-07-01x86: drop Vec_Imm4Jan Beulich1-55/+50
It is pretty wasteful to have a per-operand flag which is used in exactly 4 cases. It can be relatively easily replaced, and by doing so I've actually found some dead code to remove at the same time (there's no case of ImmExt set at the same time as Vec_Imm4).
2019-06-25x86: correct / adjust debug printingJan Beulich1-9/+14
For quite some time we've been using combinations of bits for specifying various registers in operands and templates. I think it was Alan who had indicated that likely the debug printing would need adjustment as a result. Here we go. Accumulator handling for GPRs gets changed to match that for FPU regs. For this to work, OPERAND_TYPE_ACC{32,64} get repurposed, with their original uses replaced by direct checks of the two bits of interest, which is cheaper than operand_type_equal() invocations. For SIMD registers nothing similar appears to be needed, as respective operands get stripped from the (copy of the) template before pt() is reached. The type change on pi() is to silence a compiler diagnostic. Arguably its other parameter could also be const-qualified.

2018-04-26x86: CpuXSAVE is a prereq for various other featuresJan Beulich1-24/+24
