This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

gdb: move the type cast into gdbarch_tdep
GDB would no longer build using g++ 4.8. The issue appears to be some
confusion caused by GDB having 'struct gdbarch_tdep', but also a
templated function called 'gdbarch_tdep'. Prior to the above commit
the gdbarch_tdep function was not templated, and this compiled just
fine. Note that the above commit compiles just fine with later
versions of g++, so this issue was clearly fixed at some point, though
I've not tried to track down exactly when.
In this commit I propose to fix the g++ 4.8 build problem by renaming
'struct gdbarch_tdep' to 'struct gdbarch_tdep_base'. This rename
better represents that the struct is only ever used as a base class,
and removes the overloading of the name, which allows GDB to build
with g++ 4.8.
I've also updated the comment on 'struct gdbarch_tdep_base' to fix a
typo, and the comment on the 'gdbarch_tdep' function, to mention that
in maintainer mode a run-time type check is performed.

I noticed a few spots in GDB that use "typedef enum". However, in C++
this isn't as useful, as the tag is automatically entered as a
typedef. This patch removes most uses of "typedef enum" -- the
exceptions being in some nat-* code I can't compile, and
glibc_thread_db.h, which I think is more or less a copy of some C code
from elsewhere.
Tested by rebuilding.

This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

I would like to be able to use non-trivial types in gdbarch_tdep types.
This is not possible at the moment (in theory), because of the one
definition rule.
To allow it, rename all gdbarch_tdep types to <arch>_gdbarch_tdep, and
make them inherit from a gdbarch_tdep base class. The inheritance is
necessary to be able to pass pointers to all these <arch>_gdbarch_tdep
objects to gdbarch_alloc, which takes a pointer to gdbarch_tdep.
These objects are never deleted through a base class pointer, so I
didn't include a virtual destructor. In the future, if gdbarch objects
deletable, I could imagine that the gdbarch_tdep objects could become
owned by the gdbarch objects, and then it would become useful to have a
virtual destructor (so that the gdbarch object can delete the owned
gdbarch_tdep object). But that's not necessary right now.
It turns out that RISC-V already has a gdbarch_tdep that is
non-default-constructible, so that provides a good motivation for this
change.
Most changes are fairly straightforward, mostly needing to add some
casts all over the place. There is however the xtensa architecture,
doing its own little weird thing to define its gdbarch_tdep. I did my
best to adapt it, but I can't test those changes.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|
|
While working on my other scripts to deal with gdb headers, I noticed
that some files were missing include guards. I wrote a script to add
the missing ones, but found that using the obvious names for the
guards ran into clashes -- for example, gdb/nat/linux-nat.h used
"LINUX_NAT_H", but this was also the script's choice for
gdb/linux-nat.h.
So, I changed the script to normalize all include guards in gdb. This
patch is the result.
As usual the script is available here:
https://github.com/tromey/gdb-refactoring-scripts
Tested by rebuilding; I also ran it through "Fedora-x86_64-m64" on the
buildbot.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.
gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
|

C++ does not officially support designators in initializer lists. Thus
some compilers may issue errors when encountering them. Modern versions
of GCC seem to allow them by default, as a GCC extension, even though
the GCC documentation explicitly states otherwise: "[...] This extension
is not implemented in GNU C++." But some older GCC versions (like
4.4.7) did indeed emit an error instead, like this:
.../gdb/xtensa-config.c:219: error: expected primary-expression before
‘.’ token
This patch removes the only such instance I've seen when building with
'--enable-targets=all'.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* xtensa-tdep.h (XTENSA_GDBARCH_TDEP_INSTANTIATE): Replace
designated initializer list by plain initializer list, for C++
compliance.

XTREG is used with raw numbers, like:
...
XTREG( 78,312,32, 4, 4,0x02d7,0x0007,-2, 2,0x1000,excsave7, 0,0,0,0,0,0)
XTREG( 79,316, 8, 4, 4,0x02e0,0x0007,-2, 2,0x1000,cpenable, 0,0,0,0,0,0)
XTREG( 80,320,22, 4, 4,0x02e2,0x000b,-2, 2,0x1000,interrupt, 0,0,0,0,0,0)
XTREG( 81,324,22, 4, 4,0x02e2,0x000d,-2, 2,0x1000,intset, 0,0,0,0,0,0)
...
So just add the explicit cast to the macro.

This is a patch I extracted from Pedro's C++ branch. It contains the
most trivial enum fixes, where an integer type/value was used instead
of the appropriate enum type/value. It fixes many C++ errors, since
in C++ you can't mix integers and enums implicitely.
Regardless of the C++ conversion, I think this is a good cleanup to make
use of the appropriate enum types.
Regression-tested on native x86_64.

In C, an enum or structure defined inside other structure has global
scope just like it had been defined outside the struct in the first
place. However, in C++, such a nested structure is given a name that
is nested inside the structure. This patch moves such affected
structures/enums out to global scope, so that code using them works
the same in C++ as it works today in C.
