Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.
So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).
One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.
Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.
The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

Getting the bounds of an array (or string) type is a common operation,
and is currently done through its index type:
my_array_type->index_type ()->bounds ()
I think it would make sense to let the `type::bounds` methods work for
arrays and strings, as a shorthand for this. It's natural that when
asking for the bounds of an array, we get the bounds of the range type
used as its index type. In a way, it's equivalent as the now-removed
TYPE_ARRAY_{LOWER,UPPER}_BOUND_IS_UNDEFINED and
TYPE_ARRAY_{LOWER,UPPER}_BOUND_VALUE, except it returns the
`range_bounds` object. The caller is then responsible for getting the
property it needs in it.
I updated all the spots I could find that could take advantage of this.
Note that this also makes `type::bit_stride` work on array types, since
`type::bit_stride` uses `type::bounds`. `my_array_type->bit_stride ()`
now returns the bit stride of the array's index type. So some spots
are also changed to take advantage of this.

types.

simple mechanical change.

the DWARF expression evaluator will then proceed to read memory from
the inferior, even when the request could be filled from this buffer.
This, in turn, is a problem in some cases; and specifically when
trying to handle the Ada scenario of extracting a variable-length
value from a packed array. Here, the ordinary DWARF expression cannot
be directly evaluated, because the data may appear at some arbitrary
bit offset. So, it is unpacked into a staging area and then the
expression is evaluated -- using an address of 0.
This patch fixes the problem by arranging for the DWARF evaluator, in
this case, to prefer passed-in memory when possible. The type of the
buffer in the property_addr_info is changed to an array_view so that
bounds checking can be done.

This adds support for complex arithmetic to gdb. Now something like
"print 23 + 7i" will work.
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and equality testing
are supported binary operations.
Unary +, negation, and complement are supported. Following GCC, the ~
operator computes the complex conjugate.

This commit adds support for negative Fortran array strides in one
limited case, that is the case of a single element array with a
negative array stride.
The changes in this commit will be required in order for more general
negative array stride support to work correctly, however, right now
other problems in GDB prevent negative array strides from working in
the general case.
The reason negative array strides don't currently work in the general
case is that when dealing with such arrays, the base address for the
objects data is actually the highest addressed element, subsequent
elements are then accessed with a negative offset from that address,
and GDB is not currently happy with this configuration.
The changes here can be summarised as, stop treating signed values as
unsigned, specifically, the array stride, and offsets calculated using
the array stride.
This issue was identified on the mailing list by Sergio:
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2020-01/msg00360.html
The test for this issue is a new one written by me as the copyright
status of the original test is currently unknown.

From what I can tell, set_gdbarch_bits_big_endian has never been used.
That is, all architectures since its introduction have simply used the
default, which is simply check the architecture's byte-endianness.
Because this interferes with the scalar_storage_order code, this patch
removes this gdbarch setting entirely. In some places,
type_byte_order is used rather than the plain gdbarch.

Currently GDB supports a byte or bit stride on arrays, in DWARF this
would be DW_AT_bit_stride or DW_AT_byte_stride on DW_TAG_array_type.
However, DWARF can also support DW_AT_byte_stride or DW_AT_bit_stride
on DW_TAG_subrange_type, the tag used to describe each dimension of an
array.
Strides on subranges are used by gFortran to represent Fortran arrays,
and this commit adds support for this to GDB.
I've extended the range_bounds struct to include the stride
information. The name is possibly a little inaccurate now, but this
still sort of makes sense, the structure represents information about
the bounds of the range, and also how to move from the lower to the
upper bound (the stride).
I've added initial support for bit strides, but I've never actually
seen an example of this being generated. Further, I don't really see
right now how GDB would currently handle a bit stride that was not a
multiple of the byte size as the code in, for example,
valarith.c:value_subscripted_rvalue seems geared around byte
addressing. As a consequence if we see a bit stride that is not a
multiple of 8 then GDB will give an error.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* dwarf2read.c (read_subrange_type): Read bit and byte stride and
create a range with stride where appropriate.
* f-valprint.c: Include 'gdbarch.h'.
(f77_print_array_1): Take the stride into account when walking the

* gdbtypes.c (create_range_type): Initialise the stride to

range as normal, and then setup the stride.
(has_static_range): Include the stride here. Also change the
return type to bool.
(create_array_type_with_stride): Consider the range stride if the
array isn't given its own stride.
(resolve_dynamic_range): Resolve the stride if needed.
* gdbtypes.h (struct range_bounds) <stride>: New member variable.
(struct range_bounds) <flag_is_byte_stride>: New member variable.

(TYPE_ARRAY_BIT_STRIDE): Define.
(create_range_type_with_stride): Declare.
* valarith.c (value_subscripted_rvalue): Take range stride into
account when walking the array.

- Rationale:
It is possible for compilers to indicate the desired byte order
interpretation of scalar variables using the DWARF attribute:
DW_AT_endianity
A type flagged with this variable would typically use one of:
DW_END_big
DW_END_little
which instructs the debugger what the desired byte order interpretation
of the variable should be.
The GCC compiler (as of V6) has a mechanism for setting the desired byte
ordering of the fields within a structure or union. For, example, on a
little endian target, a structure declared as:
struct big {
int v;
short a[4];
} __attribute__( ( scalar_storage_order( "big-endian" ) ) );
could be used to ensure all the structure members have a big-endian
interpretation (the compiler would automatically insert byte swap
instructions before and after respective store and load instructions).
- To reproduce
GCC V8 is required to correctly emit DW_AT_endianity DWARF attributes
in all situations when the scalar_storage_order attribute is used.
A fix for (dwarf endianity instrumentation) for GCC V6-V7 can be found
in the URL field of the following PR:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=82509
- Test-case:
A new test case (testsuite/gdb.base/endianity.*) is included with this
patch.
Manual testing for mixed endianity code has also been done with GCC V8.
See:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=82509#c4
- Observed vs. expected:
Without this change, using scalar_storage_order that doesn't match the
target, such as
struct otherendian
{
int v;
} __attribute__( ( scalar_storage_order( "big-endian" ) ) );
would behave like the following on a little endian target:
Breakpoint 1 at 0x401135: file endianity.c, line 41.
(gdb) run
Starting program: /home/pjoot/freeware/t/a.out
Missing separate debuginfos, use: debuginfo-install glibc-2.17-292.el7.x86_64
Breakpoint 1, main () at endianity.c:41
41 struct otherendian o = {3};
(gdb) n
43 do_nothing (&o); /* START */
(gdb) p o
$1 = {v = 50331648}
(gdb) p /x
$2 = {v = 0x3000000}
whereas with this gdb enhancement we can access the variable with the user
specified endianity:
Breakpoint 1, main () at endianity.c:41
41 struct otherendian o = {3};
(gdb) p o
$1 = {v = 0}
(gdb) n
43 do_nothing (&o); /* START */
(gdb) p o
$2 = {v = 3}
(gdb) p o.v = 4
$3 = 4
(gdb) p o.v
$4 = 4
(gdb) x/4xb &o.v
0x7fffffffd90c: 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x04
(observe that the 4 byte int variable has a big endian representation in the
hex dump.)

The dynamic lower (and upper) bounds of ranges are stored as type
LONGEST (see union dynamic_prop_data in gdbtypes.h). In most places
that range bounds are handled they are held in a LONGEST, however in
value_subscripted_rvalue the bound is placed into an int.
This commit changes value_subscripted_rvalue to use LONGEST, there
should be no user visible changes after this commit.

parameter type from int to LONGEST.
* value.h (value_subscripted_rvalue): Likewise in declaration.

I touched symtab.h and was surprised to see how many files were
rebuilt. I looked into it a bit, and found that defs.h includes
gdbarch.h, which in turn includes many things.
gdbarch.h is only needed by a minority ofthe files in gdb, so this
patch removes the include from defs.h and updates the fallout.
I did "wc -l" on the files in build/gdb/.deps; this patch reduces the
line count from 139935 to 137030; so there are definitely future
build-time savings here.
Note that while I configured with --enable-targets=all, it's possible
that some *-nat.c file needs an update. I could not test all of
these. The buildbot caught a few problems along these lines.

This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.
This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.
I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

I noticed that _initialize_valarith is empty. This patch removes it.
Because init.c is constructed at build time, there's no reason to keep
empty initialization functions around, because there's no overhead to
reintroducing them when needed.

* valarith.c (_initialize_valarith): Remove.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.
gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

Commit 6b1747cd1 ("invoke_xmethod & array_view") contains this change:
- argvec = (struct value **) alloca (sizeof (struct value *) * 4);
+ value *argvec_storage[3];
+ gdb::array_view<value *> argvec = argvec_storage;
However, value_x_unop still does:
argvec[2] = value_from_longest (builtin_type (gdbarch)->builtin_int, 0);
argvec[3] = 0;
This triggers an error with -fsanitize=address from userdef.exp:
ERROR: AddressSanitizer: stack-buffer-overflow on address 0x7ffdcf185068 at pc 0x000000e4f912 bp 0x7ffdcf184d80 sp 0x7ffdcf184d70

#0 0xe4f911 in value_x_unop(value*, exp_opcode, noside) ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/valarith.c:557
[...]
I think the two assignments to argvec[3] should just be removed, and
that this was intended in the earlier patch but just missed.
This passes userdef.exp with -fsanitize=address.

* valarith.c (value_x_unop): Don't set argvec[3].

This replaces more pointer+length with gdb::array_view. This time,
around invoke_xmethod, and then propagating the fallout around, which
inevitably leaks to the overload resolution code.
There are several places in the code that want to grab a slice of an
array, by advancing the array pointer, and decreasing the length
pointer. This patch introduces a pair of new
gdb::array_view::slice(...) methods to make that convenient and clear.
Unit test included.

This replaces a few uses of pointer+length with gdb::array_view, in
call_function_by_hand and related code.
Unfortunately, due to -Wnarrowing, there are places where we can't
brace-initialize an gdb::array_view without an ugly-ish cast. To
avoid the cast, this patch introduces a gdb::make_array_view function.
Unit tests included.
This patch in isolation may not look so interesting, due to
gdb::make_array_view uses, but I think it's still worth it. Some of
the gdb::make_array_view calls disappear down the series, and others
could be eliminated with more (non-trivial) gdb::array_view
detangling/conversion (e.g. code around eval_call). See this as a "we
have to start somewhere" patch.

If a vla is not in memory, and the upper bound is not defined, then we
can't know that an array element exists or not, and we should not try
to access the array element. One case where this happens is for
arrays that have been optimised out, the array will then have
VALUE_LVAL of not_lval, and an undefined upper bound, if we then try
to access an element of this array we will index into random GDB
memory.
An argument could be made that even for arrays that are in inferior
memory, if the upper bound is not defined then we should not try to
access the array element, however, in some of the Fortran tests, it
seems as though we do rely indexing from a base address into an array
which has no bounds defined. In this case GDBs standard protection
for detecting unreadable target memory prevents bad thing happening.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* valarith.c (value_subscripted_rvalue): If an array is not in
memory, and we don't know the upper bound, then we can't know that
the requested element exists or not.
gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:

TYPE_TAG_NAME has been an occasional source of confusion and bugs. It
seems to me that it is only useful for C and C++ -- but even there,
not so much, because at least with DWARF there doesn't seem to be any
way to wind up with a type where the name and the tag name are both
non-NULL and different.
So, this patch removes TYPE_TAG_NAME entirely. This should save a
little memory, but more importantly, it simplifies this part of gdb.
A few minor test suite adjustments were needed. In some situations
the new code does not yield identical output to the old code.

This patch removes some unused variables, found with -Wunused. I have
not removed everything reported by -Wunused, because some expressions
such as
struct type *arg_type = check_typedef (value_type);
in bfin-tdep.c could have an unexpected but important side-effect. I
removed others that I considered more low-risk, such as:
struct gdbarch *gdbarch = get_objfile_arch (objfile);
I tested building with Python 2/Python 3/no Python, with/without expat,
with/without libipt and with/without babeltrace.

This patch adds the following target floating-point routines:
- target_float_binop
- target_float_compare
which call the equivalent decimal_ routines to handle decimal FP,
and call helper routines that currently still go via DOUBLEST to
handle binary FP (derived from current valarith.c code).
These routines are used to handle both binary and decimal FP types
in scalar_binop, value_equal, and value_less, mostly following the
method currently used for decimal FP. The existing value_args_as_decimal
helper is renamed to value_args_as_target_float and extended to handle
both binary and decimal types.
The unary operations value_pos and value_neg are also simplified,
the former by using a simple copy for all scalar types, the latter
by using value_binop (... BINOP_SUB) to implement negation as
subtraction from zero.
ChangeLog:

(value_less): Likewise.
(value_pos): Handle all scalar types as simple copy.

This patch introduces the new set of target floating-point handling routines
in target-float.{c,h}. In the end, the intention is that this file will
contain support for all operations in target FP format, fully replacing
both the current doublest.{c,h} and dfp.{c,h}.
To begin with, this patch only adds a target_float_is_zero routine,
which handles the equivalent of decimal_is_zero for both binary and
decimal FP. For the binary case, to avoid conversion to DOUBLEST,
this is implemented using the floatformat_classify routine.
However, it turns out that floatformat_classify actually has a bug
(it was not used to check for zero before), so this is fixed as well.
The new routine is used in both value_logical_not and valpy_nonzero.
There is one extra twist: the code previously used value_as_double
to convert to DOUBLEST and then compare against zero. That routine
performs an extra task: it detects invalid floating-point values
and raises an error. In any place where value_as_double is removed
in favor of some target-float.c routine, we need to replace that check.
To keep this check centralized in one place, I've added a new routine
is_floating_value, which returns a boolean determining whether a
value's type is floating point (binary or decimal), and if so, also
performs the validity check. Since we need to check whether a value
is FP before calling any of the target-float routines anyway, this
seems a good place to add the check without much code size overhead.
In some places where we only want to check for floating-point types
and not perform a validity check (e.g. for the *output* of an operation),
we can use the new is_floating_type routine (in gdbarch) instead.
The validity check itself is done by a new target_float_is_valid
routine in target-float, encapsulating floatformat_is_valid.
ChangeLog:
2017-11-06 Ulrich Weigand <uweigand@de.ibm.com>

This cleans up a number of interfaces in dfp.c / dfp.h. Specifically:
- The decimal_from_string / decimal_to_string routines are C++-ified
to operate on std::string instead of character buffers. In the
decimal_from_string, the boolean return value now actually is bool
instead of an int.
- The decimal_from_integral and decimal_from_doublest routines take
an struct value as input. This is not really appropriate at the low
level the DFP routines sit, so this replaced them with new routines
decimal_from_longest / decimal_from_ulongest / decimal_from_doublest
that operate on contents instead.
- To mirror the decimal_from_[u]longest, a new decimal_to_longest
routine is added as well, which can be used in unpack_long to
avoid an unnecessary conversion via DOUBLEST.
Note that the decimal_from_longest / decimal_from_ulongest routines
are actually more powerful than decimal_from_integral: the old routine
would only accept integer *types* of at most four bytes size, while
the new routines accept all integer *values* that fit in an [u]int32_t,
no matter which type they came from. The DFP tests are updated to
allow for this larger range of integers that can be converted.

The fact that GDB defaults to assuming that functions return int, when
it has no debug info for the function has been a recurring source of
user confusion. Recently this came up on the errno pretty printer
discussions. Shortly after, it came up again on IRC, with someone
wondering why does getenv() in GDB return a negative int:
(gdb) p getenv("PATH")
$1 = -6185
This question (with s/getenv/random-other-C-runtime-function) is a FAQ
on IRC.
The reason for the above is:
(gdb) p getenv
$2 = {<text variable, no debug info>} 0x7ffff7751d80 <getenv>
(gdb) ptype getenv
type = int ()
... which means that GDB truncated the 64-bit pointer that is actually
returned from getent to 32-bit, and then sign-extended it:
(gdb) p /x -6185
$6 = 0xffffe7d7
The workaround is to cast the function to the right type, like:
(gdb) p ((char *(*) (const char *)) getenv) ("PATH")
$3 = 0x7fffffffe7d7 "/usr/local/bin:/"...
IMO, we should do better than this.
I see the "assume-int" issue the same way I see printing bogus values
for optimized-out variables instead of "<optimized out>" -- I'd much
rather that the debugger tells me "I don't know" and tells me how to
fix it than showing me bogus misleading results, making me go around
tilting at windmills.
If GDB prints a signed integer when you're expecting a pointer or
aggregate, you at least have some sense that something is off, but
consider the case of the function actually returning a 64-bit integer.
For example, compile this without debug info:
unsigned long long
function ()
{
return 0x7fffffffffffffff;
}
Currently, with pristine GDB, you get:
(gdb) p function ()
$1 = -1 # incorrect
(gdb) p /x function ()
$2 = 0xffffffff # incorrect
maybe after spending a few hours debugging you suspect something is
wrong with that -1, and do:
(gdb) ptype function
type = int ()
and maybe, just maybe, you realize that the function actually returns
unsigned long long. And you try to fix it with:
(gdb) p /x (unsigned long long) function ()
$3 = 0xffffffffffffffff # incorrect
... which still produces the wrong result, because GDB simply applied
int to unsigned long long conversion. Meaning, it sign-extended the
integer that it extracted from the return of the function, to 64-bits.
and then maybe, after asking around on IRC, you realize you have to
cast the function to a pointer of the right type, and call that. It
won't be easy, but after a few missteps, you'll get to it:
..... (gdb) p /x ((unsigned long long(*) ()) function) ()
$666 = 0x7fffffffffffffff # finally! :-)
So to improve on the user experience, this patch does the following
(interrelated) things:
- makes no-debug-info functions no longer default to "int" as return
type. Instead, they're left with NULL/"<unknown return type>"
return type.
(gdb) ptype getenv
type = <unknown return type> ()
- makes calling a function with unknown return type an error.
(gdb) p getenv ("PATH")
'getenv' has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared return type
- and then to make it easier to call the function, makes it possible
to _only_ cast the return of the function to the right type,
instead of having to cast the function to a function pointer:
(gdb) p (char *) getenv ("PATH") # now Just Works
$3 = 0x7fffffffe7d7 "/usr/local/bin:/"...
(gdb) p ((char *(*) (const char *)) getenv) ("PATH") # continues working
$4 = 0x7fffffffe7d7 "/usr/local/bin:/"...
I.e., it makes GDB default the function's return type to the type
of the cast, and the function's parameters to the type of the
arguments passed down.
After this patch, here's what you'll get for the "unsigned long long"
example above:
(gdb) p function ()
'function' has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared return type
(gdb) p /x (unsigned long long) function ()
$4 = 0x7fffffffffffffff # correct!
Note that while with "print" GDB shows the name of the function that
has the problem:
(gdb) p getenv ("PATH")
'getenv' has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared return type
which can by handy in more complicated expressions, "ptype" does not:
(gdb) ptype getenv ("PATH")
function has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared return type
This will be fixed in the next patch.

In almost all contexts (except for overload resolution rules and expression
semantics), lvalue and rvalue references are equivalent. That means that in all
but these cases we can replace a TYPE_CODE_REF check to a TYPE_IS_REFERENCE
check and, for switch statements, add a case label for a rvalue reference type
next to a case label for an lvalue reference type. This patch does exactly
that.

Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

Nowadays, we create a value of subobject in pretty printer with 'address'
being used,
value = value_from_contents_and_address (type, valaddr + embedded_offset,
address + embedded_offset);
set_value_component_location (value, val);
/* set_value_component_location resets the address, so we may
need to set it again. */
if (VALUE_LVAL (value) != lval_internalvar
&& VALUE_LVAL (value) != lval_internalvar_component
&& VALUE_LVAL (value) != lval_computed)
set_value_address (value, address + embedded_offset);
value_from_contents_and_address creates a value from memory, but the
value we are pretty-printing may not from memory at all.
Instead of using value_from_contents_and_address, we create a value
of subobject with the same location as object's but different offset.
We avoid using address in this way. As a result, parameter 'address'
in apply_val_pretty_printer is no longer needed, we can remove it in
next step.
We've already had the location of the 'whole' value, so it is safe
to assume we can create a value of 'component' or 'suboject' value
at the same location but with different offset.

The VALUE_FRAME_ID macro provides access to a member in struct value
that's used to hold the frame id that's used when determining a
register's value or when assigning to a register. The underlying
member has a long and obscure name. I won't refer to it here, but
will simply refer to VALUE_FRAME_ID as if it's the struct value member
instead of being a convenient macro.
At the moment, without this patch in place, VALUE_FRAME_ID is set in
value_of_register_lazy() and several other locations to hold the frame
id of the frame passed to those functions.
VALUE_FRAME_ID is used in the lval_register case of
value_fetch_lazy(). To fetch the register's value, it calls
get_frame_register_value() which, in turn, calls
frame_unwind_register_value() with frame->next.
A python based unwinder may wish to determine the value of a register
or evaluate an expression containing a register. When it does this,
value_fetch_lazy() will be called under some circumstances. It will
attempt to determine the frame id associated with the frame passed to
it. In so doing, it will end up back in the frame sniffer of the very
same python unwinder that's attempting to learn the value of a
register as part of the sniffing operation. This recursion is not
desirable.
As noted above, when value_fetch_lazy() wants to fetch a register's
value, it does so (indirectly) by unwinding from frame->next.
With this in mind, a solution suggests itself: Change VALUE_FRAME_ID
to hold the frame id associated with the next frame. Then, when it
comes time to obtain the value associated with the register, we can
simply unwind from the frame corresponding to the frame id stored in
VALUE_FRAME_ID. This neatly avoids the python unwinder recursion
problem by changing when the "next" operation occurs. Instead of the
"next" operation occuring when the register value is fetched, it
occurs earlier on when assigning a frame id to VALUE_FRAME_ID.
(Thanks to Pedro for this suggestion.)
This patch implements this idea.
It builds on the patch "Distinguish sentinel frame from null frame".
Without that work in place, it's necessary to check for null_id at
several places and then obtain the sentinel frame.
It also renames most occurences of VALUE_FRAME_ID to
VALUE_NEXT_FRAME_ID to reflect the new meaning of this field.
There are several uses of VALUE_FRAME_ID which were not changed. In
each case, the original meaning of VALUE_FRAME_ID is required to get
correct results. In all but one of these uses, either
put_frame_register_bytes() or get_frame_register_bytes() is being
called with the frame value obtained from VALUE_FRAME_ID. Both of
these functions perform some unwinding by performing a "->next"
operation on the frame passed to it. If we were to use the new
VALUE_NEXT_FRAME_ID macro, this would effectively do two "->next"
operations, which is not what we want.
The VALUE_FRAME_ID macro has been redefined in terms of
VALUE_NEXT_FRAME_ID. It simply fetches the previous frame's id,
providing this id as the value of the macro.

GDB computes structure byte offsets using a 32 bit integer. And,

Fortran provide types whose values may be dynamically allocated
or associated with a variable under explicit program control.
The purpose of this commit is:
* to read allocated/associated DWARF tags and store them in
the dynamic property list of main_type.
* enable GDB to print the value of a dynamic array in Fortran
in case the type is allocated or associated (pointer to
dynamic array).
Examples:
(gdb) p vla_not_allocated
$1 = <not allocated>
(gdb) p vla_allocated
$1 = (1, 2, 3)
(gdb) p vla_ptr_not_associated
$1 = <not associated>
(gdb) p vla_ptr_associated
$1 = (1, 2, 3)
Add basic test coverage for most dynamic array use-cases in Fortran.
The commit contains the following tests:
* Ensure that values of Fortran dynamic arrays
can be evaluated correctly in various ways and states.
* Ensure that Fortran primitives can be evaluated
correctly when used as a dynamic array.
* Dynamic arrays passed to subroutines and handled
in different ways inside the routine.
* Ensure that the ptype of dynamic arrays in
Fortran can be printed in GDB correctly.
* Ensure that dynamic arrays in different states
(allocated/associated) can be evaluated.
* Dynamic arrays passed to functions and returned from
functions.
* History values of dynamic arrays can be accessed and
printed again with the correct values.
* Dynamic array evaluations using MI protocol.
* Sizeof output of dynamic arrays in various states.
The patch was tested using the test suite on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.

This patch updates various value handling functions to make them
consider the addressable memory unit size of the current architecture.
This allows to correctly extract and print values on architectures whose
addressable memory unit is not 8 bits.
The patch doesn't cover all the code that would ideally need to be
adjusted, only the code paths that we happen to use, plus a few obvious
ones. Specifically, those areas are not covered by this patch:
- Management of unavailable bits
- Bitfields
- C++ stuff
Regression-tested on x86-64 Ubuntu 14.04. I saw no related test result
change.

I think that the CHECK_TYPEDEF macro is not necessary, and even a bit
annoying. It makes unclear the fact that the "type" variables gets
overwritten. It has actually bitten me a few times. I think the
following, explicit form, is better.
type = check_typedef (type);
This patches changes all instances of CHECK_TYPEDEF for an equivalent
call to check_typedef. The bulk of the change was done with this sed:
sed -i 's/CHECK_TYPEDEF (\([^)]*\));/\1 = check_typedef (\1);/' <file>.c
The ChangeLog was generated using David Malcom's generate_changelog.py.
I manually fixed those places where it gets the wrong function name,
hopefully all of them.
The patch was built-tested, and I ran a few smoke tests.

This patch renames symbols that happen to have names which are
reserved keywords in C++.
Most of this was generated with Tromey's cxx-conversion.el script.
Some places where later hand massaged a bit, to fix formatting, etc.
And this was rebased several times meanwhile, along with re-running
the script, so re-running the script from scratch probably does not
result in the exact same output. I don't think that matters anyway.
