I tried to build gdb on the AIX machine in the GCC compile farm
(gcc111), but it failed in a couple of spots because gdb uses "reg" as
a variable name and the AIX <curses.h> defines "reg" to "register".
I saw that we already had a workaround for this lurking in utils.c, so
I just moved that to gdb_curses.h.
This fixed the problem on AIX and still builds on x86-64 Fedora 18.

* utils.c (reg): Move undefinition...
* gdb_curses.h: ... here. Update comment to mention AIX.

Consider the following example:
% gdb -q -batch -ex 'source nonexistant-file'
[nothing]
One would have at least expected the debugger to warn about
not finding the file, similar to the error shown when using
a more interactive mode. Eg:
(gdb) source nonexistant-file
nonexistant-file: No such file or directory.
Not raising an error appears to be intentional, presumably in order
to prevent this situation from stoping the execution of a GDB script.
But the lack of at least a warning makes it harder for a user to
diagnose any issue, if the file was expected to be there and readable.
This patch adds a warning in that case:
% gdb -q -batch -ex 'source nonexistant-file'
warning: nonexistant-file: No such file or directory.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* utils.h (perror_warning_with_name): Add declaration.
* utils.c (perror_warning_with_name): New function.
* cli/cli-cmds.c (source_script_with_search): Add call to

gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
* gdb.base/source-nofile.gdb: New file.
* gdb.base/source.exp: Add two tests verifying the behavior when
the "source" command is given a non-existant filename.

The main purpose of this patch is to extract the part of
throw_perror_with_name that computes a string providing the system
error message combined with a prefix string. This will become useful
later on to provide a routine which prints a warning using that
perror_string, rather than throwing an error.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* utils.c (perror_string): New function, extracted out of
throw_perror_with_name.
(throw_perror_with_name): Rework to use perror_string.

With the pathmax gnulib module in place, we can use PATH_MAX
consistently throughout, instead of the current mixbag of PATH_MAX and
MAXPATHLEN uses. It's no longer necessary to include sys/param.h
(supposedly, I can't check all ports touched here) for MAXPATHLEN.
Don't remove sys/param.h from GDB's configure.ac, as later tests in
the file use HAVE_SYS_PARAM_H checks.
Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.
Also cross-built for --host=i686-w64-mingw32, and --host=i586-pc-msdosdjgpp.

This check in utils.c for HAVE_UNISTD_H is being used as proxy for
"HAVE_PATHCONF", as pathconf is supposed to be declared in unistd.h.
It's possible that there are systems out there that have realpath,
unistd.h and alloca, but not pathconf+_PC_PATH_MAX. I don't know of
any by heart, but if we import gnulib's unistd module (which a
following patch will do), then unistd.h ends up always available, so
the check ends up incorrect. As pathconf is being called with
_PC_PATH_MAX, check for that instead.

PR symtab/15391 is a failure with the DW_OP_GNU_implicit_pointer
feature.
I tracked it down to a logic error in read_pieced_value. The code
truncates this_size_bits according to the type size and offset too
early -- it should do it after taking bits_to_skip into account.
This patch fixes the bug.
While testing this, I also tripped across a latent bug because
indirect_pieced_value does not sign-extend where needed. This patch
fixes this bug as well.
Finally, Pedro pointed out that a previous version implemented sign
extension incorrectly. This version introduces a new gdb_sign_extend
function for this. A couple of notes on this function:
* It has the gdb_ prefix to avoid clashes with various libraries that
felt free to avoid proper namespacing. There is a "sign_extend"
function in a Tile GX header, in an SOM-related BFD header (and in
sh64-tdep.c and as a macro in arm-wince-tdep.c, but those are
ours...)
* I looked at all the sign extensions in gdb and didn't see ones that
I felt comfortable converting to use this function; in large part
because I don't have a good way to test the conversion.
Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18. New test cases included;
this required a minor addition to the DWARF assembler. Note that the
DWARF CU made by implptrpiece.exp uses a funny pointer size in order
to show the sign-extension bug on all platforms.
* dwarf2loc.c (read_pieced_value): Truncate this_size_bits
after taking bits_to_skip into account. Sign extend byte_offset.
* utils.h (gdb_sign_extend): Declare.
* utils.c (gdb_sign_extend): New function.
* gdb.dwarf2/implptrpiece.exp: New file.

compile_rx_or_error looks like a constructor, but it can return NULL.
This patch changes it to remove the NULL return, making it work
like any other cleanup constructor.
This is a stylistic patch but I think it is also better for code to
follow the normal conventions.

calling compile_rx_or_error.

Currently, several commands take "0" or "-1" to mean "unlimited".
"show" knows when to print "unlimited":
(gdb) show height
Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is 45.
(gdb) set height 0
(gdb) show height
Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is unlimited.
However, the user can't herself specify "unlimited" directly:
(gdb) set height unlimited
No symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command.
(gdb)
This patch addresses that, by adjusting the set handler for all
integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands to accept literal
"unlimited". It also installs a completer. Presently, we complete on
symbols by default, and at
<http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-03/msg00864.html> I've
shown a WIP prototype that tried to keep that half working in these
commands. In the end, it turned out to be more complicated than
justifiable, IMO. It's super rare to want to pass the value of a
variable/symbol in the program to a GDB set/show knob. That'll still
work, it's just that we won't assist with completion anymore. This
patch just sticks with the simple, and completes on "unlimited", and
nothing else. This simplification means that
"set he<tab><tab>"
is all it takes to get to:
"set height unlimited"
The patch then goes through all integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited
commands in the tree, and updates both the online help and the manual
to mention that "unlimited" is accepted in addition to 0/-1. In the
cases where the command had no online help text at all, this adds it.
I've tried to make the texts read in a way that "unlimited" is
suggested before "0" or "-1" is.
Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

gdb/ChangeLog:
Copyright year update in most files of the GDB Project.
|
|
On Windows hosts, gdb_realpath is just an xstrdup. This makes filename
comparisons on Windows very chancy. Normally, we would normalize both
paths, and then compare. But since the normalization doesn't do
anything, two equivalent names on Windows might not match. This can
happen when trying to insert a breakpoint using the fullpath of a file.
For instance, if the compiler generated debug info that says that
the compilation directory is: `c:\\some\\double\\slashes\\dir', then
trying to insert a breakpoint on `c:/some/double/slashes/dir/foo.c:4'
does not work:
(gdb) b c:/some/double/slashes/dir/foo.c:4
No source file named c:/some/double/slashes/dir/foo.c:4.
(gdb) b c:\some\double\slashes\dir\foo.c:4
No source file named c:\some\double\slashes\dir\foo.c:4.
This fixes the problem by enhancing gdb_realpath on Windows hosts.
The code is inspired from libiberty's lrealpath.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* utils.c (gdb_realpath): Add better support for Windows hosts.
|
|
* utils.c: #include "gdb_wait.h".
(sigalrm_handler, wait_to_die_with_timeout): New functions.
* ser-pipe.c: Don't #include "gdb_wait.h".
(pipe_close): Give child a chance to die on its own after closing
its stdin before SIGTERM'ing it.
