2022-01-01Automatic Copyright Year update after running gdb/copyright.pyJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure. For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were performed by the script.
2021-11-25gdb: rename source_styling_changed observerAndrew Burgess1-2/+2
In a later commit I plan to add disassembler styling. In the same way that we have a source_styling_changed observer I would need to add a disassembler_styling_changed observer. However, currently, these observers would only be notified from cli-style.c:set_style_enabled, and observed in tui-winsource.c, tui_source_window::style_changed, as a result, having two observers seems unnecessary right now, so, in this commit, I plan to rename source_styling_changed to just styling_changed, then, in the later commit, when disassembler styling is added, I can use the same observer for both source styling, and disassembler styling. There should be no user visible changes after this commit.
2021-10-21[gdb/tui] Fix breakpoint display functionalityTom de Vries1-2/+1
In commit 81e6b8eb208 "Make tui-winsource not use breakpoint_chain", a loop body was transformed into a lambda function body: ... - for (bp = breakpoint_chain; - bp != NULL; - bp = bp->next) + iterate_over_breakpoints ([&] (breakpoint *bp) -> bool ... and consequently: - a continue was replaced by a return, and - a final return was added. Then in commit 240edef62f0 "gdb: remove iterate_over_breakpoints function", we transformed back to a loop body: ... - iterate_over_breakpoints ([&] (breakpoint *bp) -> bool + for (breakpoint *bp : all_breakpoints ()) ... but without reverting the changes that introduced the two returns. Consequently, breakpoints no longer show up in the tui source window. Fix this by reverting the changes that introduced the two returns. Build on x86_64-linux, tested with all .exp test-cases that contain tuiterm_env. Bug: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=28483
2021-05-27gdb: remove iterate_over_breakpoints functionSimon Marchi1-2/+3
Now that we have range functions that let us use ranged for loops, we can remove iterate_over_breakpoints in favor of those, which are easier to read and write. This requires exposing the declaration of all_breakpoints and all_breakpoints_safe in breakpoint.h, as well as the supporting types. Change some users of iterate_over_breakpoints to use all_breakpoints, when they don't need to delete the breakpoint, and all_breakpoints_safe otherwise. gdb/ChangeLog: * breakpoint.h (iterate_over_breakpoints): Remove. Update callers to use all_breakpoints or all_breakpoints_safe. (breakpoint_range, all_breakpoints, breakpoint_safe_range, all_breakpoints_safe): Move here. * breakpoint.c (all_breakpoints, all_breakpoints_safe): Make non-static. (iterate_over_breakpoints): Remove. * python/py-finishbreakpoint.c (bpfinishpy_detect_out_scope_cb): Return void. * python/py-breakpoint.c (build_bp_list): Add comment, reverse return value logic. * guile/scm-breakpoint.c (bpscm_build_bp_list): Return void. 2021-05-27gdb: add breakpoint::locations methodSimon Marchi1-3/+1
Add the breakpoint::locations method, which returns a range that can be used to iterate over a breakpoint's locations. This shortens for (bp_location *loc = b->loc; loc != nullptr; loc = loc->next) into for (bp_location *loc : b->locations ()) Change all the places that I found that could use it. gdb/ChangeLog: * breakpoint.h (bp_locations_range): New. (struct breakpoint) <locations>: New. Use where possible. Change-Id: I1ba2f7d93d57e544e1f8609124587dcf2e1da037
2021-04-24gdbsupport, gdb: give names to observersSimon Marchi1-1/+1
Give a name to each observer, this will help produce more meaningful debug message. gdbsupport/ChangeLog: * observable.h (class observable) <struct observer> <observer>: Add name parameter. <name>: New field. <attach>: Add name parameter, update all callers. 2021-01-28gdb/tui: remove special handling of locator/status windowAndrew Burgess1-1/+2
The locator window, or status window as it is sometimes called is handled differently to all the other windows. The reason for this is that the class representing this window (tui_locator_window) does two jobs, first this class represents a window just like any other that has space on the screen and fills the space with content. The second job is that this class serves as a storage area to hold information about the current location that the TUI windows represent, so the class has members like 'addr' and 'line_no', for example which are used within this class, and others when they want to know which line/address the TUI windows should be showing to the user. Because of this dual purpose we must always have an instance of the tui_locator_window so that there is somewhere to store this location information. The result of this is that the locator window must never be deleted like other windows, which results in some special case code. In this patch I propose splitting the two roles of the tui_locator_window class. The tui_locator_window class will retain just its window drawing parts, and will be treated just like any other window. This should allow all special case code for this window to be deleted. The other role, that of tracking the current tui location will be moved into a new class (tui_location_tracker), of which there will be a single global instance. All of the places where we previously use the locator window to get location information will now be updated to get this from the tui_location_tracker. There should be no user visible changes after this commit. gdb/ChangeLog: * Makefile.in (SUBDIR_TUI_SRCS): Add tui/tui-location.c. (HFILES_NO_SRCDIR): Add tui/tui-location.h. * tui/tui-data.h (TUI_STATUS_WIN): Define. (tui_locator_win_info_ptr): Delete declaration. * tui/tui-disasm.c: Add 'tui/tui-location.h' include. 2021-01-05Prevent flickering when redrawing the TUI source windowHannes Domani1-1/+3
tui_win_info::refresh_window simply calls wrefresh, which internally does a doupdate. This redraws the source background window without the source pad. Then prefresh of the source pad draws the actual source code on top, which flickers. By changing this to wnoutrefresh, the actual drawing on the screen is only done once in the following prefresh, without flickering. gdb/ChangeLog: 2021-01-05 Hannes Domani <ssbssa@yahoo.de> * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_window): Call wnoutrefresh instead of tui_win_info::refresh_window.
2021-01-05Fix TUI source window drawingHannes Domani1-2/+3
The smaxrow and smaxcol parameters of prefresh are the bottom right corner of the text area inclusive, not exclusive. And if the source window grows bigger in height, the pad has to grow as well. gdb/ChangeLog: 2021-01-05 Hannes Domani <ssbssa@yahoo.de> PR tui/26927 * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_window): Fix source pad size in prefresh. (tui_source_window_base::show_source_content): Grow source pad if necessary.

2020-11-02gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issuesSimon Marchi1-15/+15
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example, there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch. So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully). One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit" anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you already need a somewhat efficient way to do this. Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke. It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it). Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't really make archeology more difficult. The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c: Fix PR tui/26719 points out that switching the focus can erase the TUI source window. This is a regression introduced by the patch to switch the source window to using a pad. This patch fixes the bug by arranging to call prefresh whenever the window is refreshed. 2020-10-19 Tom Tromey <tromey@adacore.com> PR tui/26719 * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <refresh_window>: Rename from refresh_pad. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_window): Rename from refresh_pad. (tui_source_window_base::show_source_content) (tui_source_window_base::do_scroll_horizontal): Update. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog 2020-10-19 Tom Tromey <tromey@adacore.com> PR tui/26719 * gdb.tui/list.exp: Check source window contents after focus change.
2020-09-27Use ISCNTRL in tui_copy_source_lineTom Tromey1-3/+4
This changes tui_copy_source_line to use ISCNTRL. This lets it work more nicely with UTF-8 input. Note that this still won't work for stateful multi-byte encodings; for that much more work would be required. However, I think this patch does not make gdb any worse in this scenario. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-09-27 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> PR tui/25342: * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_copy_source_line): Use ISNCTRL.
2020-09-27Use a curses pad for source and disassembly windowsTom Tromey1-43/+41
This changes the TUI source and disassembly windows to use a curses pad for their text. This is an important step toward properly handling non-ASCII characters, because it makes it easy to scroll horizontally without needing gdb to also understand multi-byte character boundaries -- this can be wholly delegated to curses. Horizontal scrolling is probably also faster now, because no re-rendering is required. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-09-27 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * unittests/tui-selftests.c: Update. * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <extra_margin, show_line_number, refresh_pad>: New methods. <m_max_length, m_pad>: New members. 2020-09-27Remove a call to show_source_line from TUITom Tromey1-1/+0
This removes a call to show_source_line from tui_source_window_base. 2020-04-18Change get_objfile_arch to a method on objfileTom Tromey1-1/+1
This changes get_objfile_arch to be a new inline method, objfile::arch. To my surprise, this function came up while profiling DWARF psymbol reading. Making this change improved performance from 1.986 seconds to 1.869 seconds. 2020-02-22TUI windows do not need to store their typeTom Tromey1-5/+3
TUI windows no longer need to store their type -- there's only a single spot that uses this information, and it can be changed to use dynamic_cast. (It could be cleaned up even more, by using a virtual method, but I haven't done so.) This patch removes the "type" field from tui_gen_win_info, and this in turn allows removing a couple of enumerator constants. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-02-22 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui.h (enum tui_win_type) <LOCATOR_WIN, DATA_ITEM_WIN>: Remove constants. * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <tui_source_window_base>: Remove parameter. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::tui_source_window_base): Remove parameter. 2020-01-19Make "file" clear TUI source windowTom Tromey1-5/+6
I noticed that a plain "file" will leave the current source file in the TUI source window. Instead, I think, it should clear the source window. 2020-01-11Make TUI borders respect "set style enabled"Tom Tromey1-1/+5
When adding support for styling the TUI borders, I neglected to have this code check cli_styling. As a result, "set style enabled off" does not affect the borders. This patch fixes this oversight. While doing this, I found that running gdb without an executable, enabling the TUI, and then trying "set style enabled off" would fail with the mysterious "No registers". The fix for this is to use deprecated_safe_get_selected_frame in tui_source_window_base::refill. gdb/ChangeLog 2020-01-11 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-wingeneral.c (box_win): Check cli_styling. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refill): Use deprecated_safe_get_selected_frame. This changes a few TUI source window methods to take a symtab_and_line rather than separate symtab and tui_line_or_address parameters. A symtab_and_line already incorporates the same information, so this seemed simpler. This involved a bit of rearrangement, so that the source and disassembly windows could share both the copy_source_line utility function, and the ability to react to changes in "set style enabled". This version introduces a new function to strip the styling from the address string when computing the length. As a byproduct, it also removes the unused "insn_size" computation from tui_disasm_window::set_contents. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-11-05 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-source.h (struct tui_source_window): Inline constructor. 2019-10-15Make tui-winsource not use breakpoint_chainChristian Biesinger1-7/+4
That's an internal variable of breakpoint.c. Insted, use iterate_over_breakpoints to update the breakpoint list. gdb/ChangeLog: 2019-10-15 Christian Biesinger <cbiesinger@google.com> * breakpoint.c (breakpoint_chain): Make static. * tui/tui-winsource.c: Call iterate_over_breakpoints instead of accessing breakpoint_chain. 2019-10-09Make TUI window handle a unique_ptrTom Tromey1-11/+11
This changes tui_gen_win_info::handle to be a specialization of unique_ptr. This is perhaps mildly uglier in some spots, due to the proliferation of "get"; but on the other hand it cleans up some manual management and it allows for the removal of tui_delete_win. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-10-09 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-wingeneral.h (tui_delete_win): Don't declare. * tui/tui-stack.c (tui_locator_window::rerender): Update. * tui/tui-command.c (tui_cmd_window::resize) (tui_refresh_cmd_win): Update. * tui/tui-win.c (tui_resize_all, tui_set_focus_command): Update. * tui/tui.c (tui_rl_other_window, tui_enable): Update. * tui/tui-data.c (~tui_gen_win_info): Remove. * tui/tui-layout.c (tui_gen_win_info::resize): Update. * tui/tui-io.c (update_cmdwin_start_line, tui_putc, tui_puts) (tui_redisplay_readline, tui_mld_flush) (tui_mld_erase_entire_line, tui_mld_getc, tui_getc): Update. * tui/tui-regs.c (tui_data_window::delete_data_content_windows) (tui_data_window::erase_data_content) (tui_data_item_window::rerender) (tui_data_item_window::refresh_window): Update. * tui/tui-wingeneral.c (tui_gen_win_info::refresh_window) (box_win, tui_gen_win_info::make_window) (tui_gen_win_info::make_visible): Update. 2019-09-20Simplify tui_source_window_base::show_source_contentTom Tromey1-8/+3
tui_source_window_base::show_source_content is not used outside the class any more, so this makes it private. Examining the callers shows that it can't be called without source contents, so it can be simplified as well. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-09-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <show_source_content>: Now private. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::show_source_content): Don't handle empty content case.
2019-09-20Move "fullname" to tui_source_windowTom Tromey1-5/+0
The "fullname" field in tui_source_window_base is only used by one subclass. This patch moves the field to that subclass, and changes it to be a unique_xmalloc_ptr. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-09-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <~tui_source_window_base>: Don't declare. <fullname>: Remove. * tui/tui-winsource.c (~tui_source_window_base): Remove. * tui/tui-source.h (struct tui_source_window) <fullname>: New member. * tui/tui-source.c (tui_source_window::set_contents): Update. (tui_source_window::location_matches_p) (tui_source_window::maybe_update): Update.
2019-09-20Change tui_source_element::line to be a unique_xmalloc_ptrTom Tromey1-2/+1
This changes tui_source_element::line to be a unique_xmalloc_ptr, removing some manual memory management. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-09-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-winsource.h (~tui_source_element): Remove. (tui_source_element): Update. (struct tui_source_element) <line>: Now a unique_xmalloc_ptr. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_show_source_line): Update. * tui/tui-source.c (tui_source_window::set_contents): Update. * tui/tui-disasm.c (tui_disasm_window::set_contents): Update.
2019-09-20Remove tui_clear_source_windows_detailTom Tromey1-11/+0
The calls to tui_clear_source_windows_detail in tui_add_win_to_layout aren't needed, because (after the resize unification) resizing will update the window contents. Removing these calls lets us remove several other things as well. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-09-20 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-data.h (tui_clear_source_windows_detail): Don't declare. * tui/tui-layout.c (tui_add_win_to_layout): Don't call tui_clear_source_windows_detail. * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <clear_detail>: Don't declare. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::clear_detail): Remove. * tui/tui-data.c (tui_clear_source_windows_detail): Remove.
2019-08-30Remove tui_win_info::refresh_allTom Tromey1-10/+0
The TUI has two duplicate "re-render this window" methods, "rerender" and "refresh_all". They differ only slightly in semantics, so I wanted to see if they could be unified. After looking into this, I decided that refresh_all was not needed. There are 4 calls to tui_refresh_all_win (the only caller of this method): 1. tui_enable. This sets the layout, which renders the windows. 2. tui_cont_sig. Here, I think it's sufficient to simply redraw the current window contents from the curses backing store, because gdb state didn't change while it was suspended 3. tui_dispatch_ctrl_char. This is the C-l handler, and here it's explicitly enough to just refresh the screen (as above). 4. tui_refresh_all_command. This is the command equivalent of C-l. So, this patch removes this method entirely and simplifies tui_refresh_all_win. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-08-30 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_source_window_base) <refresh_all>: Don't declare. * tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_all): Remove. * tui/tui-win.c (tui_refresh_all_win): Don't call refresh_all or tui_show_locator_content. * tui/tui-regs.h (struct tui_data_window) <refresh_all>: Don't declare. * tui/tui-regs.c (tui_data_window::refresh_all): Remove. * tui/tui-data.h (struct tui_win_info) <refresh_all>: Don't declare.
2019-08-16Remove the TUI execution info windowTom Tromey1-37/+4
The TUI execution info window is unusual in that it is always linked to a source or disassembly window. Even updates of its content are handled by the source window, so it really has no life of its own. This patch removes this window entirely and puts its functionality directly into the source window. This simplifies the code somewhat. This is a user-visible change, because now the box around the source (or disassembly) window encloses the execution info as well. I consider this an improvement as well, though. Note that this patch caused ncurses to start emitting the "CSI Z" sequence, so I've added this to the test suite terminal implementation. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-08-16 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * tui/tui.h (enum tui_win_type) <EXEC_INFO_WIN>: Remove. * tui/tui-winsource.h (struct tui_exec_info_window): Remove.
