This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py
as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure.
For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were
performed by the script.

In a later commit I plan to add disassembler styling. In the same way
that we have a source_styling_changed observer I would need to add a
disassembler_styling_changed observer.
However, currently, these observers would only be notified from
cli-style.c:set_style_enabled, and observed in tui-winsource.c,
tui_source_window::style_changed, as a result, having two observers
seems unnecessary right now, so, in this commit, I plan to rename
source_styling_changed to just styling_changed, then, in the later
commit, when disassembler styling is added, I can use the same
observer for both source styling, and disassembler styling.
There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

In commit 81e6b8eb208 "Make tui-winsource not use breakpoint_chain", a loop
body was transformed into a lambda function body:
...
- for (bp = breakpoint_chain;
- bp != NULL;
- bp = bp->next)
+ iterate_over_breakpoints ([&] (breakpoint *bp) -> bool
...
and consequently:
- a continue was replaced by a return, and
- a final return was added.
Then in commit 240edef62f0 "gdb: remove iterate_over_breakpoints function", we
transformed back to a loop body:
...
- iterate_over_breakpoints ([&] (breakpoint *bp) -> bool
+ for (breakpoint *bp : all_breakpoints ())
...
but without reverting the changes that introduced the two returns.
Consequently, breakpoints no longer show up in the tui source window.
Fix this by reverting the changes that introduced the two returns.
Build on x86_64-linux, tested with all .exp test-cases that contain
tuiterm_env.

Now that we have range functions that let us use ranged for loops, we
can remove iterate_over_breakpoints in favor of those, which are easier
to read and write. This requires exposing the declaration of
all_breakpoints and all_breakpoints_safe in breakpoint.h, as well as the
supporting types.
Change some users of iterate_over_breakpoints to use all_breakpoints,
when they don't need to delete the breakpoint, and all_breakpoints_safe
otherwise.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* breakpoint.h (iterate_over_breakpoints): Remove. Update
callers to use all_breakpoints or all_breakpoints_safe.
(breakpoint_range, all_breakpoints, breakpoint_safe_range,
all_breakpoints_safe): Move here.
* breakpoint.c (all_breakpoints, all_breakpoints_safe): Make
non-static.
(iterate_over_breakpoints): Remove.
* python/py-finishbreakpoint.c (bpfinishpy_detect_out_scope_cb):
Return void.
* python/py-breakpoint.c (build_bp_list): Add comment, reverse
return value logic.
* guile/scm-breakpoint.c (bpscm_build_bp_list): Return void.

Add the breakpoint::locations method, which returns a range that can be
used to iterate over a breakpoint's locations. This shortens
for (bp_location *loc = b->loc; loc != nullptr; loc = loc->next)
into
for (bp_location *loc : b->locations ())
Change all the places that I found that could use it.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* breakpoint.h (bp_locations_range): New.
(struct breakpoint) <locations>: New. Use where possible.

Give a name to each observer, this will help produce more meaningful
debug message.
gdbsupport/ChangeLog:
* observable.h (class observable) <struct observer> <observer>:
Add name parameter.
<name>: New field.
<attach>: Add name parameter, update all callers.

The locator window, or status window as it is sometimes called is
handled differently to all the other windows.
The reason for this is that the class representing this
window (tui_locator_window) does two jobs, first this class represents
a window just like any other that has space on the screen and fills
the space with content. The second job is that this class serves as a
storage area to hold information about the current location that the
TUI windows represent, so the class has members like 'addr' and
'line_no', for example which are used within this class, and others
when they want to know which line/address the TUI windows should be
showing to the user.
Because of this dual purpose we must always have an instance of the
tui_locator_window so that there is somewhere to store this location
information.
The result of this is that the locator window must never be deleted
like other windows, which results in some special case code.
In this patch I propose splitting the two roles of the
tui_locator_window class. The tui_locator_window class will retain
just its window drawing parts, and will be treated just like any other
window. This should allow all special case code for this window to be
deleted.
The other role, that of tracking the current tui location will be
moved into a new class (tui_location_tracker), of which there will be
a single global instance. All of the places where we previously use
the locator window to get location information will now be updated to
get this from the tui_location_tracker.
There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

tui_win_info::refresh_window simply calls wrefresh, which internally
does a doupdate.
This redraws the source background window without the source pad.
Then prefresh of the source pad draws the actual source code on top,
which flickers.
By changing this to wnoutrefresh, the actual drawing on the screen is
only done once in the following prefresh, without flickering.
gdb/ChangeLog:
2021-01-05 Hannes Domani <ssbssa@yahoo.de>
* tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_window):
Call wnoutrefresh instead of tui_win_info::refresh_window.
|
|
The smaxrow and smaxcol parameters of prefresh are the bottom right corner
of the text area inclusive, not exclusive.
And if the source window grows bigger in height, the pad has to grow as
well.

PR tui/26927
* tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_source_window_base::refresh_window):
Fix source pad size in prefresh.
(tui_source_window_base::show_source_content): Grow source pad
if necessary.

Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.
So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).
One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.
Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.
The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

PR tui/26719 points out that switching the focus can erase the TUI
source window. This is a regression introduced by the patch to switch
the source window to using a pad.
This patch fixes the bug by arranging to call prefresh whenever the
window is refreshed.

This changes tui_copy_source_line to use ISCNTRL. This lets it work
more nicely with UTF-8 input. Note that this still won't work for
stateful multi-byte encodings; for that much more work would be
required. However, I think this patch does not make gdb any worse in
this scenario.

This changes the TUI source and disassembly windows to use a curses
pad for their text. This is an important step toward properly
handling non-ASCII characters, because it makes it easy to scroll
horizontally without needing gdb to also understand multi-byte
character boundaries -- this can be wholly delegated to curses.
Horizontal scrolling is probably also faster now, because no
re-rendering is required.

TUI windows no longer need to store their type -- there's only a
single spot that uses this information, and it can be changed to use
dynamic_cast. (It could be cleaned up even more, by using a virtual

When adding support for styling the TUI borders, I neglected to have
this code check cli_styling. As a result, "set style enabled off"
does not affect the borders.
This patch fixes this oversight. While doing this, I found that
running gdb without an executable, enabling the TUI, and then trying
"set style enabled off" would fail with the mysterious "No registers".

tui_copy_source_line has a bug, where it can advance past the
terminating \0 in its input string. This patch fixes the bug and adds
a test case for this function.
gdb/ChangeLog
2019-12-01 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com>
* tui/tui-winsource.c (tui_copy_source_line): Don't advance past
\0.
* unittests/tui-selftests.c: New file.
* Makefile.in (SUBDIR_UNITTESTS_SRCS): Add tui-selftests.c.

The source window currently uses a field width of 6 for line numbers,
and it further aligns to the next tab stop. This seemed a bit
wasteful of horizontal space to me, so I changed that in an earlier
patch.
However, that change wasn't universally popular. This patch instead
adds the option to use less horizontal space in the TUI source window.

This patch changes the TUI disassembly window to style its contents.
The styling should be identical to what is seen in the CLI. This
involved a bit of rearrangement, so that the source and disassembly
windows could share both the copy_source_line utility function, and
the ability to react to changes in "set style enabled".
This version introduces a new function to strip the styling from the
address string when computing the length. As a byproduct, it also
removes the unused "insn_size" computation from
tui_disasm_window::set_contents.

This changes tui_gen_win_info::handle to be a specialization of

proliferation of "get"; but on the other hand it cleans up some manual

tui_source_window_base::show_source_content is not used outside the

The calls to tui_clear_source_windows_detail in tui_add_win_to_layout

The TUI has two duplicate "re-render this window" methods, "rerender"
and "refresh_all". They differ only slightly in semantics, so I
wanted to see if they could be unified.
After looking into this, I decided that refresh_all was not needed.
There are 4 calls to tui_refresh_all_win (the only caller of this
method):
1. tui_enable. This sets the layout, which renders the windows.
2. tui_cont_sig. Here, I think it's sufficient to simply redraw the
current window contents from the curses backing store, because gdb
state didn't change while it was suspended
3. tui_dispatch_ctrl_char. This is the C-l handler, and here it's
explicitly enough to just refresh the screen (as above).
4. tui_refresh_all_command. This is the command equivalent of C-l.
So, this patch removes this method entirely and simplifies
tui_refresh_all_win.

The TUI execution info window is unusual in that it is always linked
to a source or disassembly window. Even updates of its content are
handled by the source window, so it really has no life of its own.
This patch removes this window entirely and puts its functionality
directly into the source window. This simplifies the code somewhat.
This is a user-visible change, because now the box around the source
(or disassembly) window encloses the execution info as well. I
consider this an improvement as well, though.
Note that this patch caused ncurses to start emitting the "CSI Z"
sequence, so I've added this to the test suite terminal
implementation.
