This commit is the result of the following actions:
- Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
include 2024,
- Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
file,
- Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
date,
- Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023. If
these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
updated them this year to 2024.
I'm sure I've probably missed some dates. Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

When starting TUI in a terminal with 2 lines (likewise with 1 line):
...
$ echo $LINES
2
$ gdb -q -tui
...
we run into this assert in tui_apply_current_layout:
...
/* This should always be made visible by a layout. */
gdb_assert (TUI_CMD_WIN != nullptr);
...
The problem is that for the command window:
- the minimum height is 3 (the default), but
- the maximum height is only 2 because there are only 2 lines.
This discrepancy eventually leads to a call to newwin in make_window with:
...
(gdb) p height
$1 = 3
(gdb) p width
$2 = 66
(gdb) p y
$3 = -1
(gdb) p x
$4 = 0
(gdb)
...
which results in a nullptr, which eventually triggers the assert.
The easiest way to fix this is to change the minimum height of the command
window to 1. However, that would also change behaviour for the case that the
screen size is 3 lines or more. For instance, in gdb.tui/winheight.exp the
number of lines in the terminal is 24, and the test-case checks that the user
cannot increase the source window height to the point that the command window
height would be less than 3.
Fix this by calculating the minimum height of the command window as follows:
- the default (3) if max_height () allows it, and
- max_height () otherwise.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

I noticed that tui_locator_window has an empty do_scroll_vertical and
do_scroll_horizontal, like tui_cmd_window, but unlike tui_cmd_window doesn't
have:
...
bool can_scroll () const override
{
return false;
}
...
I suspect that it probably doesn't matter, but regardless it's good to have
the same implementations of basic properties in all windows.
Ensure this by adding a class tui_noscroll_window, that has:
- an empty do_scroll_vertical and do_scroll_horizontal, and
- a can_scroll returning false
which both tui_locator_window and tui_cmd_window inherit.
Make all methods final to ensure no accidental overrides are left in the
inheriting classes.
Likewise add new classes representing basic window properties:
- tui_nofocus_window,
- tui_oneline_window,
- tui_nobox_window,
- tui_norefresh_window, and
- tui_always_visible_window.
The changes are only a refactoring, apart from adding the "final", which does
limit the range of behaviours for subclasses.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

This commit removes some arbitrary adjustments made in
tui_cmd_window::max_height, tui_win_info::max_height, and
tui_win_info::max_width.
These member functions all subtract some constant from the theoretical
maximum height or width. I've looked back through the history a
little and can see no real reason why these adjustments should be
needed, with these adjustments removed all the existing tui tests
still pass.
However, retaining these restrictions causes some bugs, consider:
(gdb) tui new-layout hsrc {-horizontal src 1 cmd 1} 1
When this layout is selected with current master, gdb will leave a 4
line gap at the bottom of the terminal.
The problem is that the maximum height is restricted, for the cmd
window, to 4 less than the terminal height.
By removing this restriction gdb is able to size the windows to the
complete terminal height, and the layout is done correctly.
This 4 line restriction is also what prevents this layout from working
correctly:
(gdb) tui new-layout conly cmd 1
Previously, this layout would present a cmd window only, but there
would be a 4 line gap at the bottom of the terminal. This issue was
mentioned in an earlier commit in this series (when a different bug
was fixed), but with this commit, the above layout now correctly fills
the terminal. The associated test is updated.
After removing the adjustment in tui_cmd_window::max_height, the
implementation is now the same as the implementation in the parent
class tui_win_info, so I've completely removed the max_height call
from tui_cmd_window.

TUI windows no longer need to store their type -- there's only a
single spot that uses this information, and it can be changed to use
dynamic_cast. (It could be cleaned up even more, by using a virtual
method, but I haven't done so.) This patch removes the "type" field
from tui_gen_win_info, and this in turn allows removing a couple of
enumerator constants.

Each TUI window has a "can_highlight" member. However, this has the
same meaning as "can_box" -- a window can be highlighted if and only
if it can be boxed. So, this patch removes can_highlight in favor of
simply using can_box.

The TUI currently has two different ways to resize a window: the
resize method, and the methods make_invisible_and_set_new_height and
make_visible_with_new_height.
There's no deep reason to have two different ways to resize a window,
so this patch unifies them, leaving just the "resize" method.
This also changes the locator to be handled more like an ordinary
window and less like an adjunct of the associated source window.

When resizing a window, the TUI currently first makes it invisible,
then changes the size, and then restores its visibility.
I think this is done because curses doesn't truly support resizing a
window -- there is a "wresize" extension, but the man page says it
isn't available in all versions of curses.
First, this is probably not a major problem any more. I imagine most
of those old systems are gone now.
Second, I think it's a better API to have this detail hidden inside of
the resize method.
This patch changes the code to follow this idea, and changes the
ordinary resize method to use wresize when it is available. The
special case for the command window is also moved to methods on the
command window.

* tui/tui-layout.c (show_layout, show_source_disasm_command)

An earlier patch added a couple of FIXME comments to tui-layout.c.
This removes them. This is possible due to the previous patch that
changed how boxing works in the TUI -- now, no special case for the
command window is needed in box_win.

In the TUI, whether or not a window can be boxed is a property of the
window's type. This adds a can_box method to the window classes, and
changes tui_make_window to defer to this, removing the "box_it"
paramter. This also lets us remove "enum tui_box", as it is no longer
used.

While working on my other scripts to deal with gdb headers, I noticed
that some files were missing include guards. I wrote a script to add
the missing ones, but found that using the obvious names for the
guards ran into clashes -- for example, gdb/nat/linux-nat.h used
"LINUX_NAT_H", but this was also the script's choice for
gdb/linux-nat.h.
So, I changed the script to normalize all include guards in gdb. This
patch is the result.
As usual the script is available here:
https://github.com/tromey/gdb-refactoring-scripts
Tested by rebuilding; I also ran it through "Fedora-x86_64-m64" on the
buildbot.

This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

In the TUI mode, we call wrefresh after outputting every single
character. This results in the I/O becoming very slow. Fix this by
delaying refreshing the console window until an explicit flush of
gdb_stdout is requested, or a write to any other (unbuffered) file is
done.

Update year range in copyright notice of all files.

Two modifications:
1. The addition of 2013 to the copyright year range for every file;
2. The use of a single year range, instead of potentially multiple
year ranges, as approved by the FSF.
