2022-05-25gdb: Fix DUPLICATE and PATH regressions throughoutPedro Alves1-2/+2
The previous patch to add -prompt/-lbl to gdb_test introduced a regression: Before, you could specify an explicit empty message to indicate you didn't want to PASS, like so: gdb_test COMMAND PATTERN "" After said patch, gdb_test no longer distinguishes no-message-specified vs empty-message, so tests that previously would be silent on PASS, now started emitting PASS messages based on COMMAND. This in turn introduced a number of PATH/DUPLICATE violations in the testsuite. This commit fixes all the regressions I could see. This patch uses the new -nopass feature introduced in the previous commit, but tries to avoid it if possible. Most of the patch fixes DUPLICATE issues the usual way, of using with_test_prefix or explicit unique messages. See previous commit's log for more info. In addition to looking for DUPLICATEs, I also looked for cases where we would now end up with an empty message in gdb.sum, due to a gdb_test being passed both no message and empty command. E.g., this in gdb.ada/bp_reset.exp: gdb_run_cmd gdb_test "" "Breakpoint $decimal, foo\\.nested_sub \\(\\).*" was resulting in this in gdb.sum: PASS: gdb.ada/bp_reset.exp: I fixed such cases by passing an explicit message. We may want to make such cases error out. Tested on x86_64 GNU/Linux, native and native-extended-gdbserver. I see zero PATH cases now. I get zero DUPLICATEs with native testing now. I still see some DUPLICATEs with native-extended-gdbserver, but those were preexisting, unrelated to the gdb_test change. Change-Id: I5375f23f073493e0672190a0ec2e847938a580b2
2022-01-01Automatic Copyright Year update after running gdb/copyright.pyJoel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit brings all the changes made by running gdb/copyright.py as per GDB's Start of New Year Procedure. For the avoidance of doubt, all changes in this commits were performed by the script.
2021-10-13[gdb/testsuite] Require use_gdb_stub == 0 where appropriateTom de Vries1-0/+3
When running with target board native-gdbserver, we run into a number of FAILs due to use of the start command (and similar), which is not supported when use_gdb_stub == 1. Fix this by: - requiring use_gdb_stub == 0 for the entire test-case, or - guarding some tests in the test-case with use_gdb_stub == 0. Tested on x86_64-linux.
2021-09-30gdb/testsuite: make runto_main not pass no-message to runtoSimon Marchi1-1/+0
As follow-up to this discussion: https://sourceware.org/pipermail/gdb-patches/2020-August/171385.html ... make runto_main not pass no-message to runto. This means that if we fail to run to main, for some reason, we'll emit a FAIL. This is the behavior we want the majority of (if not all) the time. Without this, we rely on tests logging a failure if runto_main fails, otherwise. They do so in a very inconsisteny mannet, sometimes using "fail", "unsupported" or "untested". The messages also vary widly. This patch removes all these messages as well. Also, remove a few "fail" where we call runto (and not runto_main). by default (without an explicit no-message argument), runto prints a failure already. In two places, gdb.multi/multi-re-run.exp and gdb.python/py-pp-registration.exp, remove "message" passed to runto. This removes a few PASSes that we don't care about (but FAILs will still be printed if we fail to run to where we want to). This aligns their behavior with the rest of the testsuite. 2021-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB filesJoel Brobecker1-1/+1

2020-12-04[gdb/testsuite] Fix control-flow in gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.expTom de Vries1-11/+15
In gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp, we have loop containing a call to gdb_test_multiple, which itself contains a break: ... for {} {$count < 500} {incr count} { ... gdb_test_multiple "x/i \$pc" "" { ... break } ... On SLE-11 with: ... $ runtest --version Expect version is 5.44.1.11 Tcl version is 8.5 Framework version is 1.4.4 ... the break doesn't seem to have the effect of breaking out of the loop. The break does have the effect of terminating evaluation of the expect clause, which means we don't set insn_array, after which we run into: ... ERROR: tcl error sourcing src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp. ERROR: can't read "insn_array(5)": no such element in array ... gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2020-12-04 Tom de Vries <tdevries@suse.de> * gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp: Don't break inside gdb_test_multiple clause.
2020-12-04[gdb/testsuite] Fix count usage in gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.expTom de Vries1-2/+1
Consider the test-case gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp. After the loop setting count, the valid entries in various arrays range from 0 to $count - 1 inclusive. Then $count is decremented: ... incr count -1 ... after which the valid entries range from 0 to $count inclusive. The first subsequent loop handles that properly: ... for {set i $count} {$i >= 0} {incr i -1} { ... but the following loop does not, because it treats $count as exclusive bound: ... for {set i 0} {$i < $count} {incr i} { ... Fix this by removing the incr, and using $count - 1 as starting value in the first loop. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2020-12-04 Tom de Vries <tdevries@suse.de> * gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp: Fix count handling.
2020-12-04[gdb/testsuite] Handle SIGILL in gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.expTom de Vries1-2/+13
Consider test-case gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp. It runs a number of subtests, dependent on the architecture, f.i. for x86_64 it runs subtests rdrand and rdseed. For each subtest, it checks whether the subtest is supported and otherwise bails out of that subtest. However, there may be a problem with the support test or the information it relies on, and if it states that a subtest is supported while it is actually not, we may run into a SIGILL, as f.i. described in PR21166, which results in tcl errors like this: ... ERROR: tcl error sourcing src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp. ERROR: can't read "insn_array(5)": no such element in array ... We can emulate this by inserting a sigfpe in function rdrand in insn-reverse-x86.c, like this: ... volatile int a = 0; volatile int b = 1; volatile int c = b / a; ... The problem is that the loop in the test-case attempts to stepi over of all insn in rdrand, but because of the signal it will never get to the last insn. Handle this by detecting that the stepi made no progress, and bailing out of the loop. Furthermore, make running of the subtests independent, such that a SIGILL in subtest rdrand does not affect running of subtest rdseed. Tested on x86_64-linux. gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2020-12-04 Tom de Vries <tdevries@suse.de> * gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.c (test_nr): New var. (usage, parse_args): New function. (main): Call parse_args. Only run test for test_nr. * gdb.reverse/insn-reverse.exp: Detect lack of progress in stepi loop and bail out. Run subtests individually, using an inferior arg specifying the subtest.

2019-01-01Update copyright year range in all GDB files.Joel Brobecker1-1/+1
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

2016-12-23Fix more cases of improper test namesLuis Machado1-2/+1
I noticed more occurrences of improper test names. The rather mechanical, tedious and large patch below addresses, hopefully, most of the leftover cases. As usual, another pair of eyes is welcome to check if missed something or did an invalid substitution. 2016-12-01Fix test names starting with uppercase output by basic functionsLuis Machado1-1/+1
The following patch is based on the previous patch i sent and handles cases of test names that start with an uppercase letter. Test names should start with lowercase unless it starts with the name of a technology, architecture, ISA etc. This first patch addresses cases of test names output explicitly via xfail, kfail, kpass, fail, pass, unsupported, untested and also names set with the pattern "set test" and "set testname". gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog: 2016-12-01 Luis Machado <lgustavo@codesourcery.com> Fix test names
