Update copyright year range in all GDB files

Some testcases needed to be updated as they were missing
.debug_aranges. While that does not matter for no-index (as GDB
builds the mapping internally during dwarf2_build_psymtabs_hard) and
neither for .gdb_index (as GDB uses that internally built mapping
which it stores into .gdb_index) it does matter for .debug_names as
that simply assumes existing .debug_aranges from GCC.

I see the following test fail in gdb (configured --with-expat=no),
-list-thread-groups --available^M

FAIL: gdb.mi/list-thread-groups-available.exp: list available thread groups (unexpected output)
This patch skips it if XML parsing in GDB is disabled, like what you did
in gdb.mi/mi-info-os.exp.

As reported here

the output of certain commands, like backtrace, doesn't appear anywhere
when it is run as a breakpoint command and when using MI.
The reason is that the current_uiout is set to the mi_ui_out while these
commands run, whereas we want the output as CLI output. Some commands
like "print" work, because they use printf_filtered (gdb_stdout, ...)
directly, bypassing the current ui_out.
The fix I did is to force setting the cli_uiout as the current_uiout
when calling execute_control_command. I am not sure if this is the
right way to fix the problem, comments about the approach would be
appreciated.
I enhanced gdb.mi/mi-break.exp to test the backtrace command.
Regtested on the buildbot.

This patch gets rid of catch_exceptions / catch_exceptions_with_msg.
The latter is done mostly by getting rid of the three remaining
vestigial libgdb wrapper functions, which are really pointless
nowadays. This results in a good number of simplifications.
(I checked that Insight doesn't use those functions.)
The gdb.mi/mi-pthreads.exp change is necessary because this actually
fixes a bug, IMO -- the patch stops MI's -thread-select causing output
on the CLI stream.
I.e., before:

52f9abe4c739f42cc5f80b2629276493ac6306f9
changed the logic of the "-list-thread-groups --available" by mistake
when a pid is passed. It prints all the processes except the one
specified by the given pid. The correct behavior is to only print the
process corresponding to that pid. this patch fixes that and adds a test.

This change adds the MI equivalent for the "info sharedlibrary"
command. The command was already partially documented but ignored as
it was not implemented. The new MI command works similarly to the CLI
command, taking an optional regular expression as an argument and
outputting the library information.
I included a test for the new command in mi-solib.exp.

This commit fixes a "-gdb-set logging redirect on" crash by not
handling "logging redirect on" on the fly.

Meanwhile, MI gained support for logging, but flipping redirect "on"
on the fly was not considered. The result is that this sequence of

The handling of redirect on the fly is not really a use case we need
to handle, IMO. Its inconsistent (other "set logging foo" commands
aren't handled on the fly), and complicates the code significantly.
Instead of complicating it further for MI, go back to the original
idea of warning, only:

I noticed more occurrences of improper test names. The rather mechanical,
tedious and large patch below addresses, hopefully, most of the leftover cases.

The following patch is based on the previous patch i sent and handles cases of
test names that start with an uppercase letter. Test names should start with
lowercase unless it starts with the name of a technology, architecture, ISA
etc.
This first patch addresses cases of test names output explicitly via xfail,
kfail, kpass, fail, pass, unsupported, untested and also names set with the
pattern "set test" and "set testname".

This patch adds a test to verify that events are sent properly to all
UIs when the user selection context (inferior, thread, frame) changes.
The goal of the C test file is to provide two threads that are stopped with the
same predictable backtrace (so that we can test frame switching). The barrier
helps us know when the child threads are started. Then, scheduler-locking is
used to bring each thread one by one to the position we expect them to be
during the test.

With this patch, when an inferior, thread or frame is explicitly
selected by the user, notifications will appear on all CLI and MI UIs.
When a GDB console is integrated in a front-end, this allows the
front-end to follow a selection made by the user ont he CLI, and it
informs the user about selection changes made behind the scenes by the
front-end.
This patch addresses PR gdb/20487.
In order to communicate frame changes to the front-end, this patch adds
a new field to the =thread-selected event for the selected frame. The
idea is that since inferior/thread/frame can be seen as a composition,
it makes sense to send them together in the same event. The vision
would be to eventually send the inferior information as well, if we find
that it's needed, although the "=thread-selected" event would be
ill-named for that job.
Front-ends need to handle this new field if they want to follow the
frame selection changes that originate from the console. The format of
the frame attribute is the same as what is found in the *stopped events.

Internal implementation detail: this patch makes it possible to suppress
notifications caused by a CLI command, like what is done in mi-interp.c.
This means that it's now possible to use the
add_com_suppress_notification function to register a command with some
event suppressed. It is used to implement the select-frame command in
this patch.
The function command_notifies_uscc_observer was added to extract
the rather complicated logical expression from the if statement. It is
also now clearer what that logic does: if the command used by the user
already notifies the user_selected_context_changed observer, there is
not need to notify it again. It therefore protects again emitting the
event twice.
No regressions, tested on ubuntu 14.04 x86 with target boards unix and
native-extended-gdbserver.

When executing commands on a secondary UI running the MI interpreter,
some commands that should be synchronous are not. MI incorrectly
continues processing input right after the synchronous command is
sent, before the target stops.
The problem happens when we emit MI async events (=library-loaded,
etc.), and we go about restoring the previous terminal state, we end
up calling target_terminal_ours, which incorrectly always installs the
current UI's input_fd in the event loop... That is, code like this:

The fix is to move the add_file_handler/delete_file_handler calls out

The problem is that when an exception is thrown, we leave the prompt
state set to PROMPT_BLOCKED, and then mi_execute_command_input_handler
doesn't print the prompt. It used to work because before that patch,
we happened to skip disabling stdin if the current target didn't do
async (which it never does before execution).
I was surprised to find that this bug isn't caught by the testsuite,
so I made a thorough test that tests all combinations of pairs of:
- a failing synchronous execution command
- a failing non-execution command
- a non-failing command

The following scenario:
- gdb started in normal CLI mode.
- separate MI channel created with new-ui
- inferior output redirected with the "set inferior-tty" command.
- use -exec-run in the MI channel to run the inferior
is presently mishandled.
When we create the inferior, in fork-child.c, right after vfork, we'll
close all the file descriptors in the vfork child, and then dup the
tty to file descriptors 0/1/2, create a session, etc. Note that when
we close all descriptors, we close the file descriptors behind
gdb_stdin/gdb_stdout/gdb_stderr of all secondary UIs... So if
anything goes wrong in the child and it calls warning/error, it'll end
up writting to the current UI's stdout/stderr streams, which are
backed by file descriptors that have since been closed. Because this
happens in a vfork region, the corresponding stdin/stdout/stderr in
the parent/gdb end up corrupted.
The fix is to switch to the main UI right after the vfork, so that
gdb_stdin/gdb_stdout/gdb_stderr are correctly mapped to
stdin/stdout/stderr (and thus to file descriptors 0/1/2), so this code
works as it has always worked.
(Technically, we're doing a lot of stuff we shouldn't be doing after a
vfork, while we should only be calling async-signal-safe functions.)

mi-break.exp regresses when tested with MI running on a secondary UI,
with RUNTESTFLAGS="FORCE_SEPARATE_MI_TTY=1".
The problem is simply that the test sets a breakpoint, and attaches
"print" commands to the breakpoint. Since breakpoint commands always
run with the main UI as current UI, the breakpoint command's output
goes to the main UI. So we need to tweak the test to expect it there.

Due to the way that readline's API works (based on globals), we can
only have one instance of readline in a process. So the goal of this
patch is to only allow editing in the main UI, and make sure that only
one UI calls into readline. Some MI paths touch readline variables
currently, which is bad as that is changing variables that matter for
the main console UI. This patch fixes those.
This actually fixes a nasty bug -- starting gdb in MI mode ("gdb
-i=mi"), and then doing "set editing on" crashes GDB, because MI is
not prepared to use readline:

Eclipse CDT now supports enabling execution recording using two methods
(full and btrace) and both formats for btrace (bts and pt). In the
event that recording is enabled behind the back of the GUI (by the user
on the command line, or a script), we need to know which method/format
are being used, so it can be correctly reflected in the interface. This
patch adds this information to the =record-started async record.

Add a new test for PR 20039. The test spawns new threads, then tries to
interrupt, continue, and interrupt again. This use case was fixed by
commit 5fe966540d6b748f825774868463003700f0c878 in master, but gdb 7.11
is affected (so if you try it on the gdb-7.11-branch right now, the test
will fail).
New in v2, the test now handles mi-async on mode properly. The failure
was specific to mi-async off, but I don't think it's bad to test the
same thing under async on mode. I added a little hack when running in
async mode to work around bug 20045.
I also removed one continue/interrupt pair, as a single one was enough to
trigger the problem.

When doing -exec-run on a freshly started GDB, the only target on the
target stack at the time the dummy one. When mi_async_p is called to
know whether the run should be async, it queries whether the current
target (dummy) supports async, and the answer is no. The fix is to make
the code query the target that will be used for the run, which is not
necessarily the current target.
No regressions in the gdb.mi directory using the unix, native-gdbserver
and native-extended-gdbserver boards. The test doesn't pass when
forcing maint set target-async off, obviously, since it makes mi-async
have no effect. It doesn't seem like other tests are checking for that
eventuality, so I didn't in the new test.

The libraries are never downloaded to the target for the first test
(test_insert_delete_modify), so the executable can't run properly.
I also added some with_test_prefix to help differentiate between the
different test case phases.

lookup_symbol is often called with user input. Consequently, any
function called from lookup_symbol{,_in_language} should attempt to
deal with malformed input gracefully. After all, malformed user
input is not a programming/API error.
This patch does not attempt to find/correct all instances of this. It
only fixes locations in the code that trigger test suite failures.
This patch fixes PR breakpoints/18303, "Assertion: -breakpoint-insert
with windows paths of file in non-current directory".
The patch includes three new tests related to this. One is just
gdb.linespec/ls-errs.exp copied and converted to use C++ instead of C, and
to add a case using a file name containing a Windows-style logical drive
specifier. The others include an MI test to provide a regression test for
the specific case reported in PR 18303, and a C++ test for proper error
handling of access to a program variable when using a file scope specifier
that refers to a non-existent file.
Tested on x86_64 native Linux.

When running tests in parallel, each test puts its generated files in a
different directory, under "outputs". I think it would be nice if it
was always the case, as it would isolate the test cases a bit more. An
artifact created by a test wouldn't get overwritten by another test.
Also, it makes it easier to clean up. A lot of executables are left all
over the place because their names do not appear in gdb.*/Makefile. If
everything is in "outputs", then we just have to delete that directory
(which we already do).
At the same time it makes the gdb.foo directories and their Makefiles
useless in the build directory, since they are pretty much only used for
cleaning.

The test gdb.mi/mi-vla-fortran.exp reveals an issue with the DWARF
generated by gfortran.
In the test a pointer variable 'pvla2' is created:
real, pointer :: pvla2 (:, :)
Initially this variable will be unassociated, so something like this:
l = associated(pvla2)
should return false.
In the test gdb stops at a point _before_ pvla2 is associated with
anything, and we then try to print pvla2, the expectation is that gdb
should reply <not associated>.
The problem is that the data the DWARF directs gdb to read (to identify
if the variable is associated or not) is not initialised until the first
time pvla2 is accessed.
As a result gdb ends up reading uninitialised memory, sometimes this
uninitialised memory indicates the variable is associated (when it's
not). This first mistake can lead to a cascade of errors, reading
uninitialised memory, with the result that gdb builds an invalid type to
associate with the variable pvla2.
In some cases, this invalid type can be very large, which when we try to
print pvla2 causes gdb to allocate a large amount of memory.
A recent commit added a new gdb variable 'max-value-size', which
prevents gdb from allocating values of extreme size. As a result
directly trying to print pvla2 will now now error rather than allocate a
large amount of memory.
However, some of the later tests create a varobj for pvla2, and then
ask for the children of that varobj to be displayed. In the case where
an invalid type has been computed for pvla2 then the number of children
can be wrong, and very big, in which case trying to display all of these
children can cause gdb to consume an excessive amount of memory.
This commit first detects if printing pvla2 triggers the max-value-size
error, if it does then we avoid all the follow on tests relating to the
unassociated pvla2, which avoids the second error printing the varobj
children.

This patch removes all special cases for HP-UX, for which support has
been removed earlier, that I found in the testsuite. Note that the hppa
architecture != HP-UX, since other OSes can run on hppa, so I tried to
leave everything that is not HP-UX specific.
Two complete tests were completely HP-UX specific, so I removed them.
I ran the testsuite on Linux x86-64, native and native-gdbserver, and
noticed no regressions.

This patch updates tests for fork and exec events in target remote mode.
In the majority of cases this was a simple matter of removing some code
that disabled the test for target remote. In a few cases the test needed
to be disabled; in those cases the gdb_protocol was checked instead of
using the [is_remote target] etc.
In a couple of cases we needed to use clean_restart, since target remote
doesn't support the run command, and in one case we had to modify an expect
expression to allow for a "multiprocess-style" ptid.
Tested with the patch that implemented target remote mode fork and exec
event support.

This set of patches add support for the zero-padded hexadecimal format for
varobj's, defined as "zero-hexadecimal". We currently only support regular
non-zero-padded hexadecimal.
Talking with IDE developers, they would like to have this option that is
already available to GDB's print/x commands, in the CLI, as 'z'.

Testing with "maint set target-non-stop on" makes mi-nonstop.exp run
with the extended-remote board. That reveals that mi-nonstop.exp is
using the wrong predicate to check for "using remote protocol".
This is not visible today because non-stop tests all fail to run with
extended-remote board, because they spawn gdb and then do "set
non-stop on". However, with that board, gdb connects to the gdbserver
from within mi_gdb_start, and changing non-stop when already connected
doesn't work. Fix that by instead enabling non-stop mode on gdb's
command line.

I think some older gfortran did initialize allocated memory but that is an
unspecified behavior. I haven't found any initialization mentioned
in Fortran 90 standard (draft) and it is also clearly stated here:

Initialization to 0 of allocated arrays (of integers) is an
implementation issue. i.e. do not rely on it.

Fortran provide types whose values may be dynamically allocated
or associated with a variable under explicit program control.
The purpose of this commit is:
* to read allocated/associated DWARF tags and store them in
the dynamic property list of main_type.
* enable GDB to print the value of a dynamic array in Fortran
in case the type is allocated or associated (pointer to
dynamic array).
