This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.
gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

I recently see the test fails like this,
(gdb) PASS: gdb.gdb/selftest.exp: step over argv initialization
list^M
487 std::vector<struct cmdarg> cmdarg_vec;^M
(gdb) FAIL: gdb.gdb/selftest.exp: unknown source line (after step over argv initialization)

487 std::vector<struct cmdarg> cmdarg_vec;^M
(gdb) FAIL: gdb.gdb/selftest.exp: step into xmalloc call
These fails are caused by using std::vector in commit
f60ee22ea1d62f7004511ec65a3ad76890032d88. selttest.exp should match
the source code of GDB. It is a maintenance pain, so this patch
removes do_steps_and_nexts.

* gdb.gdb/selftest.exp (do_steps_and_nexts): Remove.
(test_with_self): Don't call do_steps_and_nexts, and remove
code about stepping into xmalloc.

gdb's (or gdbserver's) own signal handling should not interfere with
the signal dispositions their spawned children inherit. However, it
currently does. For example, some paths in gdb cause SIGPIPE to be
set to SIG_IGN, and as consequence, the child starts with SIGPIPE to
set to SIG_IGN too, even though gdb was started with SIGPIPE set to
SIG_DFL.
This is because the exec family of functions does not reset the signal
disposition of signals that are set to SIG_IGN:
http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/7908799/xsh/execve.html
Signals set to the default action (SIG_DFL) in the calling process
image are set to the default action in the new process
image. Signals set to be ignored (SIG_IGN) by the calling process
image are set to be ignored by the new process image. Signals set to
be caught by the calling process image are set to the default action
in the new process image (see <signal.h>).
And neither does it reset signal masks or flags.
In order to be transparent, when spawning new child processes to debug
(with "run", etc.), reset signal actions and mask back to what was
originally inherited from gdb/gdbserver's parent, just before execing
the target program to debug.

I wanted to unit test the Rust lexer, so I added a simple unit testing
command to gdb.
The intent is that self tests will only be compiled into gdb in
development mode. In release mode they simply won't exist. So, this
exposes $development to C code as GDB_SELF_TEST.
In development mode, test functions are registered with the self test
module. A test function is just a function that does some checks, and
throws an exception on failure.
Then this adds a new "maint selftest" command which invokes the test
functions, and a new dejagnu test case that invokes it.

When running tests in parallel, each test puts its generated files in a
different directory, under "outputs". I think it would be nice if it
was always the case, as it would isolate the test cases a bit more. An
artifact created by a test wouldn't get overwritten by another test.
Also, it makes it easier to clean up. A lot of executables are left all
over the place because their names do not appear in gdb.*/Makefile. If
everything is in "outputs", then we just have to delete that directory
(which we already do).
At the same time it makes the gdb.foo directories and their Makefiles
useless in the build directory, since they are pretty much only used for
cleaning.
What do you think?

Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for
the mailing list.
This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is
assigned to a pointer to the "real" type. Building in C++ mode requires
those assignments to use an explicit cast. This includes, for example:
- callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...)
- data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form
of a void pointer
- "user data" passed to some function
This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert
casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch.
Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the
native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately.
I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. To my
surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted.
Here's the ChangeLog entry. Again, this was relatively quick to make
despite the length, thanks to David Malcom's script, although I don't
believe it's very useful information in that particular case...

This reverts commit b558ff043d41ba8d17a82f5f9ae5f9dade66160e.
This reverts commit 4a11f2065906976675808364ddbd1c0f77eea41f.
The initial import commit failed to retain local changes made to
readline's configure.in (and the commit message erroneously stated that
there were no local changes that needed to be reapplied). Also the
import caused a couple of build errors and a scattering of testsuite
regressions throughout many arches. It's probably better to start over
with this import, hopefully more carefully next time.

This patch syncs our upstream copy of readline from version 6.2 to the
latest version, 7.0 alpha (released July 10 2015).
I essentially copied what was done the last time readline was synced,
when Jan updated to readline 6.2 in 2011:
http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2011-05/msg00003.html
Procedure:
1. I extracted the readline-7.0-alpha tarball on top of readline/.
2. I deleted all the new files under doc/ that were deliberately omitted
before.
3. I regenerated readline/configure and readline/examples/rlfe/configure
using autoconf 2.64. No other configure files need regenerating.
4. I updated the function gdb_printable_part in completer.c with a
trivial change made to the readline function it is based off of,
printable_part in readline/complete.c. There is more work to be done in
completer.c to sync it with readline/complete.c, but it is non-trivial
and should probably be done separately anyway.
Local patches that had to be reapplied:
None. readline 7.0 alpha contains all of our local readline
patches.
New files in readline/:
colors.{c,h}
examples/{hist_erasedups,hist_purgecmd,rl-callbacktest,rlbasic}.c
parse-colors.{c,h}
readline.pc.in
configure.ac
Deleted files in readline/:
configure.in
Regressions:
After the sync there is one testsuite regression, the test
"signal SIGINT" in gdb.gdb/selftest.exp which now FAILs. Previously,
the readline 6.2 SIGINT handler would temporarily reinstall the
underlying application's SIGINT handler and immediately re-raise SIGINT
so that the orginal handler gets invoked. But now (since readline 6.3)
its SIGINT handler does not re-raise SIGINT or directly invoke the
original handler; it now sets a flag marking that SIGINT was raised, and
waits until readline explicitly has control to call the application's
SIGINT handler. Anyway, because SIGINT is no longer re-raised from
within readline's SIGINT handler, doing "signal SIGINT" with a stopped
inferior gdb process will no longer resume and then immediately stop the
process (since there is no 2nd SIGINT to immediately catch). Instead,
the inferior gdb process will now just print "Quit" and continue to run.
So with this commit, this particular test case is adjusted to reflect
this change in behavior (we now have to send a 2nd SIGINT manually to
stop it).
Aside from this one testsuite regression, I personally noticed no
regression in user-visible behavior. Though I only tested on x86_64
and on i686 Debian Stretch.
Getting this kind of change in at the start of the GDB 7.11 development
cycle will allow us to get a lot of passive testing from developers and
from bleeding-edge users.

This commit does most of the mechanical removal. IOW, the easy part.
procfs.c isn't touched beyond removing a couple obvious bits that are
guarded by a couple macros defined in config/alpha/nm-osf3.h. Going
beyond that for procfs.c & co would be a harder excision that
potentially affects Solaris.
Some comments in the generic alpha code ABIs that may still be
relevant and I wouldn't know what to do with them. That can always be
done on a separate pass, preferably by someone who can test on alpha.
A couple other spots have references to OSF/Tru64 and related files
being removed, but it felt like removing them would make things worse,
not better. We can revisit those when we next need to touch that
code.
I didn't remove a reference to osf in testsuite/lib/future.exp, as I
believe that code is imported from DejaGNU.
Built and tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, with --enable-targets=all.
Tested that building for --target=alpha-osf3 on x86_64 Fedora 20
fails with:
checking for default auto-load directory... $debugdir:$datadir/auto-load
checking for default auto-load safe-path... $debugdir:$datadir/auto-load

Tests in gdb.gdb fail because directory gdb/testsuite/gdb.gdb doesn't
exist in build tree. This patch appends gdb.gdb/Makefile in AC_OUTPUT,
and adds new Makefile.in in gdb.gdb, so that directory gdb.gdb can be
created during configure.
With this patch applied, tests under gdb.gdb can be run,

This fixes the gdb.gdb tests to be parallel-safe, by ensuring that the

python-selftest.exp fails with an error when using the
native-gdbserver.exp board.
The bug is that the selftest code doesn't work in this situation. It
never has.
This patch fixes the problem by pushing the needed check into
do_self_tests. This helps prevent the problem in the future.
* lib/selftest-support.exp (do_self_tests): Reject remote or
non-native targets.

* gdb.gdb/observer.exp: Remove check.

A few months ago semicolons after "return" were removed throughout the
testsuite. However, as I pointed out in review, they're unnecessary
not just after "return", but pretty much after any tcl command. ';'
is the command separator, and you only need it if there's another
command on the same line afterwards.
This patch was written by running:
$ find . -name "*.exp" | xargs grep -l ";\s*$" | xargs sed -i 's/\([^#][^\s*;]*\)\s*;\s*$/\1/'
and then undoing changes to comments, and lib/future.exp.
Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.
